By Rebecca Pratt

You’re a teacher, volunteer, business person, and parent. You’ve been up since 5am, made breakfast, packed lunches, cleaned the house, chauffeured the neighborhood kids, helped with homework, read bedtime stories, and finished extra work from the office. It’s 11:30... You’re exhausted. And, in about five-and-a-half hours you’ll begin the whole 24-hour cycle…again. If you find yourself saying ‘Stop the merry-go-round, I want to get off!’ you’re not alone. Most of us—especially women, but men too (hey, there are reasons that men die younger than women)—have at some time found ourselves at the bottom of the heap when it comes to taking care of our needs. The problem with that is that if we don’t take care of ourselves, sooner or later we won’t be of much use to anyone else—or to ourselves. Just as the airline attendant tells you to put on your own oxygen mask in an emergency before helping a child with theirs, you must take care of your own basic needs before you can attend to the needs of others. What’s more, being busy is not necessarily the same as being productive with meaningful activity. (Do the workaholics you know really accomplish that much more in proportion to the time they invest?) If “putting yourself first” (a common admonition) sounds too selfish or too hard, try something simpler: put yourself on an equal footing with those you love and tend to. Do you insist that they get enough sleep? Start making that a priority for yourself too. Do you give them time for fun and socializing with friends? Then you do the same! Remember Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: human beings must meet their basic needs before they can move on to higher-level goals. Since most of us already know that we should take care of ourselves—but often have trouble figuring out how to do it, here are some guidelines for getting there: • Preserve your physical health with adequate sleep, exercise, and nutrition. • Value your emotional health as much as the physical, with a support system of friends and a willingness to laugh—especially at yourself. • Schedule fun activities on a regular basis—it’s just as important to plan pleasure as it is to plan work. • Identify “busy behaviors” (or people) that drain your time and energy but aren’t really important, then dump ‘em, or at least minimize their hold on you. • Kill two birds with one stone, combining family time with exercise, for example, which benefits everyone involved. • Try to look at the problems in your life with new eyes to find solutions. If you’re a new mom, for instance, see if you can trade childcare with another new mom to get some time for yourself. • Learn to say “No!” Your “yes” is valuable and should not be automatic. Instead, reserve it for the things that are most important to you. • Don’t try to change every problem area in your life all at once. Start with one or two items, then expand as you get things under control. Your life should be like a checking account, balancing out on a regular basis so that you always have assets to draw upon. By making even small deposits—taking care of yourself with a 10-minute walk or a nutritious meal—you’ll be amazed at the interest you’ll reap. 28 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

COPING WITH MARKET VOLATILITY Periods of increased market volatility, when stock prices sharply rise or fall within a relatively short period of time, can understandably make some investors uncertain or nervous. Whether you are currently invested, or are considering doing so, you may be wondering what the best strategy is during a cycle of unsettling market activity.

news is deemed good or bad, do your own research or consult with a Financial Advisor to evaluate any potential impact to your plan. I would be delighted for that opportunity to speak with you.

Don’t Overreact

Evaluating your financial portfolio at least annually is yet another way to help you cope with market volatility. As you assess your progress, consider your time horizon, other financial resources and tolerance for risk. A solid plan should have flexibility for contingencies as well.

It is somewhat of a cliché to say that two emotions, fear and greed, are notably some of the driving forces of market activity. During a bull market, as share prices rise, some investors develop a false sense of confidence regarding future price levels. In their zeal, they may project a continuous long-term trend. Conversely, and often more costly, lies the disappointment that may set in whenever market values decline significantly. During these bear markets, some people overreact and may envision a longterm loss of their nest egg. The reaction is often to sell… low. A strategy known as dollar cost averaging may help mitigate the market spikes we endure.

Review your Portfolio and Strategy Periodically

At least for the foreseeable future, periods of market shifts are probably the “New Normal.” However, adhering to a long-term financial plan can help you weather the storm.

Ways to Love Your Body By Carrie Myers Smith

While many of us have an easy time showering other people with love, we find that Cupid has yet to hit us with the "body love" arrow. Don’t wait for Cupid! Begin today to start appreciating, accepting and yes, even loving your body.

Stop picking yourself apart

Let’s face it: No matter how close-to-perfection body you have (and just what is the perfect body anyway?), chances are, there is something you would change about it if you could. Even celebrities and models who have been stamped with the media’s "perfect body" rating have parts they dislike – their feet, their hands, their ears – and they don’t necessarily have high self-esteem either! Rather than pick your body apart, look at your body as a whole (and read the next point…)

Consider the marvelous functions of your body

There are millions of microscopic functions that go on in our bodies every day, and you don’t even have to think about them. They just happen! Unfortunately, it often takes a crisis or a tragedy, such as a brush with death, a goaround with a disease, or a debilitating accident for some women to realize that their bodies weren’t so bad to begin with and that their body hang-ups were a big waste of time. Don’t let that be the case with you! How much time are you spending each day worrying about your weight, your body shape, the size of your rear? What could you be doing during that time? Maybe you’re supposed to be the first female president, but you’ll never know because you’re too busy obsessing about your abs!

Get real

Did you know that most of the images you see on television, movies and magazines aren’t even real? A model for a magazine cover goes through hours of professional hair and make-up, has professional stylists, top photographers who know her "best side," professional lighting, and that’s all before the chosen photo goes to a company where they remove stray hairs, wrinkles, blemishes and "extra" curves. Sometimes Model A’s head is stuck onto Model B’s body. What you see is totally made up! And it’s not just fashion magazines that are creating a fantasy. Most of today’s "fitness" magazines are following suit. On top of airbrushing and computer generating their models, fitness magazines now need to audition their models to be sure they’re strong enough to just do basic exercises! Muscles are even airbrushed in! It’s time to get real! Find real role models who emanate the qualities you desire. Educate yourself about what really goes on "behind the scenes." And realize that no one naturally "glows" the way those models in the magazines do!

Change your inner dialogue

It’s been said that we teach others how to treat us. If we believe that, the message that comes across to others is that we are not worth being liked, loved, or treated with respect. Most of it comes from what we’re not even saying. Choose to believe that you are worth taking care of and that you have the right to be respected and treated with dignity – and act like it!

Take care of your body

Diets, pills, quick-fixes, binging, not exercising, over-exercising, all these things disrespect one of the greatest gifts you have been given – your body! You only get one per lifetime, so give it the respect it deserves. You will not only feel better, but you just might become someone else’s role model!

Nothing Pleases A Woman More. by Maria Nanikki

I remember my first crush on beautiful dangling earrings my mom used to wear when I was a little girl. With the passage of time, my love for jewelry has grown into a delightful passion. The delicate sparkling as well as funky earrings has become a part of my daily wear. My earring affiliation is unmatched with other pieces of jewelry, but I love to wear unique rings, stylish bracelets, glass bangles and long necklaces which add glamour to my wardrobe. While shopping and on vacations, I am always looking for lovely pieces that I can add to my collection. For me, jewelry is a tasteful, creative and glamorous addition to enhance our looks. My addiction is to buy beaded, wood, metallic and glass pieces from around the world. Every country has developed its own style and taste in ornamentation. It is exciting to find new styles associated with different countries and adorn ourselves with them gleefully.

I

am in love with each and every material for their uniqueness and immense style. For ladies, the real form of jewelry is made of precious metals and gemstones which have unmatched elegancy and beauty. Diamonds are forever is a famous song which comes to our minds when we think of shiny adornments. What is more classy and beautiful than a piece of diamond sparkling on our fingers? They have been a passion for ladies since the inception of this age. It has always been the most expensive form of adornment for ladies showing off their social status. Gold, white gold, Pearls and gemstones do not lag behind in their sparkling beauty. Gold has been a woman’s best friend since ancient times. Egyptian ladies used to adorn themselves with huge gold necklaces and crowns. The metal has a great value because of its ornamental usage around the globe. Its other form is white gold which has a silver look to the value of gold and it produces a very elegant look on ladies.

Pearls, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, quartz, jade, jasper, turquoise, amber and limitless stones add organic color to the elegant pieces of jewelry. Most of the times, these stones are used with diamond and gold plates adding color to the shining metals. Nothing is more beautiful than a gold necklace adorned with emeralds matched to the emerald gown of a lady dancing in a ballroom. Smooth white pearls stir a unique touch to the attire of a woman specially a nice pearl necklace. I think for female population, nothing is a better gift than a beautiful piece of jewelry. Nothing pleases women when husbands gift them with a sparkling piece as a token of love. I think it is not an exaggeration to say that jewelry will always remain a women’s best friend forever. 38 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

This new revolutionary designed V12 melds to an unprecedented level an extremely sporty, highperformance character with incredible versatility, superb comfort and sophisticated elegance, guaranteeing both driver and passengers an absolutely unique driving experience. Designed by Pininfarina, the shape and proportions perfectly interpret the FF’s harmonious blend of sporting DNA and extraordinary usability. The FF features the company’s first ever four-wheel drive system. Ferrari’s exclusive, patented 4RM (four-wheel drive) weighs 50 per cent less than a conventional four-wheel drive system, maintaining perfect weight distribution (53 per cent over the rear axle). Completely integrated with the car’s electronic dynamic control systems, the four-wheel drive technology delivers record levels of performance on all terrains and in all conditions via continuous and intelligent predictive torque distribution to all four wheels. The FF is also equipped with the latest magneto rheological damping system (SCM3), as well as the most recent development in carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo. Insuring the car’s handling under any condition, giving the impression that there are no limits. A vast array of personalization options and accessories has been developed for the FF. These include six model-specific exterior colors and sumptuous interior trim incorporating specially selected and treated aniline leather. Exceptional performance levels come courtesy of the new 6,262 cc direct injection engine which develops 660 CV at 8,000 rpm. In tandem with its transaxle dual-clutch F1 gearbox, stunning acceleration figures (0-60 mph in 3.5 sec.) are guaranteed. The new model’s class-leading weight-to-power ratio , along with its ideal weight distribution, ensures exceptionally responsive handling. The result is that owners will be able to enjoy the FF’s prowess over a wide range of uses: city driving, on low grip or snow-covered surfaces and on the track. Performance aside, Maranello’s latest model also offers standards of passenger space, comfort, in-car spec and equipment previously unheard of in such a high-performance car. It can comfortably accommodate four people and their luggage, thanks to the best cabin space and boot capacity figures in its category, including four-door cars.

Gullwing Legend By Mai Yomioto

Working on the traditional “one man, one engine” philosophy; AMG will bring about the new 2013 MercedesBenz SLS AMG GT with enhanced driving dynamics and even better on-track performance. Available as a Coupe and Roadster, it will go on sale in mid-November 2012, replacing previous SLS AMG versions. Maximum engine output will be a earth moving 583 hp, connected to a recalibrated AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. Masculine and decidedly athletic the new SLS AMG GT is distinguished by darkened headlamp and tail light lenses a unique wheel color and red-painted brake calipers. The wing-shaped cross fins and the star recess in the radiator grille are given a new high-gloss black finish, as do the exterior mirrors and the fins on the hood and front fenders. The AMG logo on the right of the trunk lid also features the additional letters "GT" to clearly identify this new model. The maximum output of the AMG 6.3-liter V8 front midengine has been increased to 583 hp at 6800 rpm, while the maximum torque is maintained at 479 lb/ft at 4750 rpm. These changes yield a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.6 (est) seconds with a max speed of 197mph (electronically limited). The SLS AMG GT 6.3-liter eight-cylinder engine responds with even greater agility to accelerator pedal movements and excites with even sportier-tuned performance characteristics. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission located on the rear axle is more direct and aggressive in the manual "M" transmission mode. Thanks to newly developed gear change logic and optimised transmission control, it has been possible to shorten reaction time significantly during shifts. 40 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

When changing gears manually via the alloy shift paddles on the AMG Performance steering wheel, gear change are executed crisply and markedly quicker than previously – all of which is ideal when striving to achieve ambitious lap times on a closed race circuit. It is not just the enhancements to AMG’s M159 6.3-liter V8 and the optimized dual clutch transmission which are responsible for increasing the driving dynamics of the SLS AMG GT. The newly developed AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension also enhances the vehicle's sportiness. In the case of the SLS AMG GT, Mercedes-AMG has combined the sophisticated suspension layout of twin aluminum wishbones all round with specially tuned variable, electronically controlled dampers. The control algorithm of the AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension reacts best to fluctuations in the road surface with a tendency towards lower/softer damper force levels. The resulting effect is the best possible performance by effectively preventing body roll for enhanced contact with the road when adopting a sporty driving style. The enhanced driving dynamics and even better race track performance are measureable: as part of an internal comparison with the SLS AMG, the SLS AMG GT is able to achieve faster lap times on a race track. Depending on the driving conditions, speed and vehicle load, the AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension adjusts the damping characteristics at lightning speed and automatically reduces the roll angle of the body. The two modes can be selected via a button on the AMG DRIVE UNIT. The activated suspension mode is indicated by means of indicator lamps on the button and the display in the AMG main menu. continued on page 42...

Watch making is just like the cinema, it hides a precise mechanism which must then generate emotion. The world of ROGER DUBUIS, the arrival of its collections, like spaces of freedom, perfectly matches my principles. You need to take chances in life. And always push yourself.

Other highlights include designo leather for the entire dashboard, the beltlines, door armrests and the handrest on the centre console. AMG floor mats are in black with porcelain leather edging and the roof lining and parcel shelf (Coupé) or roll-over bar (Roadster) are finished in porcelain Alcantara.® Seat piping is also finished in contrasting colors which offer an exciting highlight and underscores the exclusive, hand-finished nature of this new styling package. Available color combinations include mocha brown/porcelain, titanium grey/porcelain and mystic red/porcelain. With these high levels of performance and styling for the new SLS AMG GT, I believe there will be waiting list for those that look for a particular, emotionally enjoyable driving experience. The interior of the SLS AMG GT features a distinctively sporty design: combining the high-quality, exclusive ambience of a true AMG model with the emotional atmosphere of a racing car. The sports seats covered in designo leather, feature center sections finished in Alcantara® and are accented with an embossed AMG crest on the head restraint. Complimenting the styling design of the seats, Alcantara® is also found as an accent on the door panels. These premium materials are combined with red seat belts, red trimmed floor mats and red contrast stitching thoughout the interior on the sports seats, center console, dashboard, and door panels. The high-gloss black trim on the center console and door panels perfectly match the new high-gloss black finish found on the trim rings of the air vents and the real metal insert on the AMG Performance steering wheel. The steering wheel has been enhanced as well with side grips finished in Alcantara®, a flat bottom section and now features a new red 12 o'clock marking for easier orientation while driving. The instrument cluster of the SLS GT has also been visually enhanced with new black dials and a black accent surrounding the LED shift lights. AMG has put together a new, highly exclusive option in the form of the AMG designo STYLE package. This expressive option is available in three different color combinations in both single and two-tone finishes. It comprises a distinctive upholstery design featuring full designo leather with a contrast stitching and a diamond quilt design on the seats and door panel inserts.

Driven to Reward

THE ENHANCED McLAREN By Scott Black

McLaren Automotive has a long heritage in producing landmark sports cars for the road: the McLaren F1 road car, which was launched in 1992, set the world land speed record for a production car, and is regarded as one of the iconic sports cars of the modern age. The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (2003 – 2009) is the most successful supercar ever in its price bracket, having sold twice as many cars as its nearest carbon-based rival. Rather than resting on its laurels, McLaren Automotive has announced a package of enhancements which makes its 12C even more invigorating to drive yet even easier to live with. This latest iteration of the 12C, which at launch set a new benchmark among its competitors for power, efficiency and pioneering technology, is available now. Customers who have already taken delivery of a 12C are not being neglected. Every 12C owner is being offered a package of upgrades, including the extra 25hp, at no cost, underlining McLaren’s commitment to its customers ensuring they enjoy owning their 12C as much as they do driving it. Headlining the changes is a 25hp power increase. It takes the maximum output of the mid mounted, twin turbocharged V8 engine to 616hp to give yet more vivid acceleration at track speeds with no loss in efficiency. Modifications have been made by McLaren’s engineers to the 12C’s engine and SSG transmission increasing responsiveness. Ease of use, a phrase not often associated with cars of this type, is further improved through a host of detail changes while a wider variety of paint, leather and wheel options give customers yet more scope for personalization. The 12C’s unique Intake Sound Generator (ISG) system, which controls the amount of engine intake sound heard in the cabin, is now programmable across three levels in all three Power train modes allowing the driver to select the amount of aural drama he or she wants to enjoy, whatever the road. But one aspect that hasn’t changed is the 12C’s purposeful styling … apart from a subtle revision to the McLaren Speed Marque badge, that is. Modification of the 7-Speed SSG transmission to which the 12C’s high-powered engine is mated has resulted in crisper throttle response and improved clutch control for gear changes that are both faster and smoother. A stunning new high quality paint finish will be added to the options list. Volcano Yellow joins the ‘Elite’ set of paint finishes, and promises to be as spectacular as the popular Volcano Orange and Volcano Red. A new door entry system is a feature of the new 12C. A small button mounted on each door replaces the 12C’s touch sensor system. In line with customer feedback, this modification is intended

to simplify the user experience. The ability to unlatch each door using the 12C key fob will be retained. An exclusive new interior trim has been developed by McLaren Automotive for 2013 model year 12Cs, which has a higher quality and more naturally textured leather. The new interior option includes flat piping around the perimeter of the seat and along the edge of the door card insert. The piping finish will be in Carbon Black unless requested in McLaren Orange, Harissa Red or Stone Grey. To improve safety, an enhancement was made to the headlight activation settings. With the ‘AUTO-lights’ mode selected, the 12C’s headlights will be automatically switched on when rain is detected by the windshield-mounted rain sensor. The 12C’s Climate Control System will be modified exclusively for 2013 models. New cars will be supplied with systems inclusive of ‘AUTO LO’ functionality. This new setting enables the desired cabin temperature to be reached in the quietest way possible, using lower fan speeds. New 5-spoke lightweight-forged wheel may be specified for the 12C and is available in multiple finishes. Standard Silver, optional Stealth and eye-catching Diamond Cut finishes are available, as well as forged wheel designs. Racing Green, which to date has been an option for 12C buyers, and ‘Driver Zone’ interior options, will now be reserved for clients of McLaren Special Operations (MSO). Selecting the ‘Driver Zone’ option will see a customer meet with MSO stylists to create a colour and trim scheme in the area immediately around, and including, the driver's seat. This is specified in contrast to the interior trim specified elsewhere in the cabin. Vehicle Lift will be available as an option on 2013 model year vehicles. The system allows the 12C to be raised front and rear for improved ground clearance. This technology permits the vehicle to be raised by up to 40mm at the front and 25mm at the rear, and may remain in position at up to 37mph. In car entertainment is to be enhanced without any charge to customers of new and used 12Cs, through upgrades to the Meridian audio equalizer settings. The Meridian audio equalizer will be offered with Pure, Expanded and Extreme settings, progressively enhancing levels of bass and treble. Performance and practical refinements, enhance the 12C’s innovative standard technical specification, for which Formula 1 DNA runs throughout every component. FOCUS of SWFL 2012 45

Mariko Aramaki

By Lena Karaush

"Mariko Aramaki, a Kwantlen Polytechnic University graduate originally got her start in the fashion industry after completing an internship with Manuel Mendoza, a Vancouver based custom bridal shop. However, this up and coming designer’s interest in bridal, evening and flamenco wear started long before her debut into Vancouver’s fashion scene. At 24 years old Mariko Aramaki credits much of her personality as a designer to her formative years growing up on Vancouver’s West side. Growing up, Mariko’s parents put a strong emphasis on retaining a sense of continuity with their Japanese heritage while fully embracing a North West coast way of life. The middle among three children, Mariko was always trying new things. She first developed an interest in fashion while watching her mother sew. Before long she learned how to work the sewing machine on her own and even began making many of her own clothes. This hobby soon blossomed into a passion as Mariko was rarely seen without a sketchbook full of future designs. By the end of her high school years, it became clear that Mariko was destined for a career in fashion.

S

hortly after graduation, Mariko entered Kwantlen Polytechnic University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design and Technology in 2010. Aramaki spent her time at Kwantlen honing both her technical skills as well as her design aesthetic to reflect her natural affinity for clothing that exudes grace, femininity and a certain “je ne sais quois’. As a student, Mariko travelled to Lyon, France for a summer semester to study French fashion history and textiles. That experience affirmed Mariko’s keen interest in producing work that echoes the French flair for combining modern and traditional styles. Aramaki’s involvement in the flamenco community had a profound influence on her art. A dancer herself, Aramaki was drawn to the vivid colors and fluid shapes of flamenco performance wear. As she gained experience and notoriety as a dancer with Centro Flamenco, she also got keen insight into the construction of the dresses themselves. Her insider knowledge of a dancer’s needs allowed Mariko to design well crafted gowns while retaining much of the magic of the dance, which quickly became a second passion in her life. After finishing her studies at Kwantlen, Mariko worked on expanding her portfolio by creating new custom designs as a freelancer. During this time Mariko made inroads into Vancouver’s fashion community by exhibiting her work locally and putting together a website. Recently, Mariko has decided to return to France and is currently living in Paris. There, she plans to expand her professional repertoire while being fully immersed in the French fashion landscape. Wherever she ends up, one can be sure that Mariko will continue to create and inspire through her unique pieces.

Swimwear Trends of 2012

by Suzanne Bryant

This season’s swimwear trends range from bold pops of color and florals to mixing without matching and swim layering. For those looking for the latest looks in swimwear for 2012, Lands’ End® outlines the most fashion-forward looks in swim this season: 1. Color Blocking – The color blocking trend is just that; wearing blocks of color. This season, the color blocking is exaggerated with bursts of bright bold hues. Get this look from Lands’ End by mixing up colors in swim separates such as Beach Living®, or try the Tugless Tank® in Electric Blue Stripe. 2. Retro Glam – Swim styles reminiscent of Old Hollywood Glamour, combine coverage and confidence with fabulous style. The Lands’ End Beach Living Halter Tunic and the Floral Beach Bandeau one-piece offers the classic retro silhouette with the adjustable tunic that can fall mid-hip. Ruched and ruffled swim tops and skirts also offer that much-desired glamorous retro style. 3. Mix n’ Mix – Swim shoppers will dare to mix it up this season by combining unexpected prints and colors to create one-of-a-kind looks. Different colored and printed tops and bottoms will be the “it” look on the beach in 2012. Lands’ End is offering this trend-right look in the new SwimMates collection. Women start with SwimMates bikini separates in a variety of colors and style choices and then layer with other swim pieces. Each piece can be a different color or print to create a complete custom look. 4. Bring on Brights – While black or navy swimsuits are go-to classics, this season’s pops of bright color are making a splash. From Raspberry Rose and Fiesta Orange to Electric Blue and Melon Breeze, Lands’ End is offering women a bright variety of in-trend color options. 5. Swim Layers – While some women may want to sport a bikini with family in the backyard, a pool party with neighbors may call for layering on a swim cami or skirt. Lands’ End has introduced SwimMates™, an innovative swimsuit concept that will change the way women wear swimsuits. Labeled the “4-Piece Bikini,” SwimMates are swim layers that let women transform swim looks seamlessly. The concept starts with a two piece bikini foundation and then offers layering swim pieces including a cami, swim shorts or swim skirt. 6. The Little Black Suit™– What if a swimsuit could be as classically perfect as the little black dress? Lands’ End offers sleek one-pieces, smart two-pieces and even skirts, all in the classic fashion color – black. Style standouts include: the AquaTerra™ Sweetheart Bikini Top and Swim Skirt and the Beach Living Twist Front Swimdress. 7. Careful

Comfort attention to

By Tony William

As the size of the boat increases, so do the privacy needs of its owner; large boats have a careful separation between the spaces and even the passageways used by crew and guests. With a hull of 18 meters, this is a feat that only very few can achieve. In designing the Azimut 60 project, this was viewed as a distinct need, and it found expression in the spacious layout of the crew cabin, with two beds and a separate entrance from the stern platform. The positioning of the beds can be changed if the Sea keeper anti-roll system is installed, which allows two separate beds to be converted into twin beds. 78 FOCUS of SWFL 2011

The design of the interiors is faithful to the new trends with Azimut flybridge, with the play of light contrasts between Oakwood (honey color) and cream-colored valances. The living zone flexes its muscles: inundated with light from side windows, it is an area of abundant comfort, where such quality details as furniture that hides the television and sofas create an environment of ample hospitality. The galley, outfitted with anti-roll furnishings and shock-absorbing drawers, is found in a raised position on the main deck and connects directly with the dinette, in keeping with contemporary trends where cooking itself forms an integral part of convivial moments on board.

The lower deck accommodates three cabins. The full-beam, full-height master cabin is positioned at the centre of the boat, illuminated by two large windows, each with three vertically divided panels, in order to provide uninterrupted contact with the seascape. A sitting area, located along the starboard wall near the window, forms a perfect complement to the large double bed positioned at a 45-degree angle on the opposite side. The VIP cabin is located in the bow, with dimensions and space that are truly remarkable. A third cabin welcomes guests with two twin beds, a large wardrobe, and cabinets. The heads play an important role, with the owner’s bathroom being full-beam, one-of-a-kind on the market for this size.

On the exterior, the Azimut 60 picks up the elements that characterize the flybridge collection, including the trademark fin on the deckhouse and in the play of the curved line of windows, creating a profile that is unmistakable even from a distance. The fly is extremely spacious, with two sundecks large enough to accommodate up to five guests. The space at the stern is open and can accept a second tender if desired. Also, it's possible to arrange for a fixed hard top supported by the central roll bar. Having these superb features, it is no surprise to say, “It’s the little things that count”. Ferretti Group, an icon within the boating sector all over the world and a symbol of Italian flair, celebrated its 170th anniversary with a rich agenda of events taking place in the most enchanting places of the Italian and French Riviera. The event was also joined by the celebrations for the 50 years of the legendary Aquarama and the world premiere of the new 63' Virtus. The 63’ Virtus is a 'open’ concept, with a typically Mediterranean style, maintaining the unique elegance of all Riva’s models: class, flair and clean shapes. This sociable aspect of the yacht enables owners to share the pleasure of driving the yacht with their guests. Moreover, it is protected by a large windshield with a double curve which ensures comfort while cruising. The cockpit is spacious, comfortable and equipped with a fridge, sink and - upon request - a grill. The Virtus has been designed following the lines of the Vertigo and strong attitude of the Rivale, both successful and classic models by Riva. The difference is improved wider spaces, with a higher liveableness and the utmost comfort on board. Featuring twin 1360mhp MAN 12V engines, 1000 kW at 2300 rpm/min, the new Riva 63' VIRTUS delivers excellent performance, with a top speed of 40 knots and a cruise speed of 35 thanks to the tried and tested hull equipped with direct shaft line tunnel propulsion. Her ease of handling and smoothness over the waves are also excellent. In an enchanting scenario of the ‘Golfo dei Poeti’ (Liguria), the whole Riva dealer network from all over the world had the pleasure to discover the new model, built at the historic shipyard in Sarnico. On the following day, from the port of Monte-Carlo the celebration was taking place, just before to the prestigious gala dinner for Riva owners. At the same time, from La Spezia the new 63’ Virtus was launched on a cruise to Saint Tropez. Attendees from all over the world came to enjoy the exclusive premiere of the new Riva 63’ Virtus. Taking place in the enchanting scenario of the dike of Saint Tropez; Riva scheduled this scenic location for the sea trials during the next several days. During the occasion of the 'Riva Trophy', the 50th anniversary of Aquarama will also be celebrated. The peak moment was the gala dinner in Monte-Carlo organized by Monaco Boat Service, an historic Riva Dealer on the French Riviera. Lasting several days, the Ferretti Group celebrated with the 'Aquarama Parade’, bringing together the past and the future of Riva. It was a long parade in front of the Monaco Yacht Club opened by the 63’ Virtus; in honor to the 50 years of Aquarama, the icon of the shipyard and the symbol of the brand Riva during the unforgettable years of ‘Dolce Vita’. Celebrations came to an end in the afternoon with the award ceremony of the ‘Riva Trophy’ and the closing moment from the three days of sea competitions. Such a wonderful celebration an launch of Riva’s new yacht. The elegant design of the 63’ Virtus is a direct result of the collaboration of three exclusive teams. Starting with Officina Italiana Design, they handle the design process of all the models of the Riva brand, AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology, is Ferretti Group’s research and naval design centre, and the Centro Stile Ferretti Group, a skilful team of architects and designers. Riva designed this as a craft featuring sporty characteristics, for owners who enjoy the elegance of a direct sea experience. FOCUS of SWFL 2012 81

Leading the Bertram fleet into the future of sport fishing, the 800 delivers extreme powerand performance of a sport fishing vessel while exuding ultimate luxury and comfort. The 800 is built to adhere to customer requests from all over the world for the various uses that are preferred in a broad range of countries across the globe. This grand yacht's design is the success of the marine industry's cutting-edge engineers and is crafted by marine professionals who are committed to maintain the ride and standards of excellence that Bertram is known for. The 800 features an advanced hull window design that is constructed with multiple layers of tempered glass. The optional forward window design actually brightens the interior of the salon while the hull windows are reinforced directly into the fiberglass hull for optimal hull strength. This state-of the-art window technology was exclusively designed and tested by Advanced Yacht Technology (AYT) to resist the roughest fishing conditions across the oceans. At high speeds, the rapid formation and collapse of vapor pockets from the water can cause cavitation, a common cause of structural damage to propellers for any boat manufacturer. AYT has successfully identified how to modify the struts in order to dissipate cavitations, thereby minimizing maintenance issues, gaining better fuel economy and enhancing engine performance. The 800 also features the exclusive ARG (Anti-rolling Gyro) technology as a standard, which suppresses rolling motion and reduces rolling angle by up to 50 percent, which enables guests to enjoy a smoother and more pleasant ride. In order to maximize all space on board to create more comfortable living space in both the interior and exterior of the yacht, the 800 has been designed with a generous, extended cockpit that provides ample space for a plethora of activities or entertainment on board. The cockpit is configured for an "L-shaped" mezzanine lounge seating with a fixed cockpit table, an essential entertainment and relaxation area. A supplementary day head is also integrated into the main salon level for easier entry for guests from the cockpit. 82 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

Making It

Fit

Our favorite season of the year is here, with long days, fresh flowers, fireworks, beach visits, music festivals, pool parties, ice cream, naps in the sun and tan lines. Summer brings inspiration and another start to something new. For a lot of us, we like to step out and sit along our pool deck or head out to the beach for a fun filled day with friends or family. Even that morning cruise along our shores. Well before you head out, are your swimsuits in order? When was the last time you taken a look at them, hopefully not faded or too out of date. I know how difficult it can be to find that perfect swimsuit. Looking though racks of colors, thinking is this for me? It sometimes feels like a quest, maybe that is why I bring my girl friends along, without the swords, shield and magic spells.

By Samantha Ramos

No matter what your body type or select a style which works best for you. A good fitting swimsuit makes a statement. It shouldn’t ride up, move around, bunch up, or get caught in places it shouldn’t. As you test drive a car, do the same when hunting for swimwear, jump up and down, swat, bend and twist. If it doesn’t move, you will have a swimsuit that you can relax and play confidently in.

So what makes sense when selecting a swim suit? Is it the material, color, style or cut that makes the grade? This is dependent on you and your own chic sense. The right fit and shape is essential to being comfortable and looking good. I believe you should stay within the basic rules and having options is key to owning more than one swimsuit is essential. Then get a knowledgeable sales person to help you along your quest. From there you can experiment with fun colors and patterns. After all you are trying to look your best, when you are having a great time in the sun. Pick swimwear to bring out your best asset; while minimizing others. Example, like to minimize your midsection, look to a tankini in a solid color. I think their great due to the new designs and how it can be easy to mix and match them. Are you slender? Then how about a two piece, they come in very exotic styles and colors as well. that goes further By Tony William

Needing a long cruise range, state-of-the-art avionics and exquisite style; Cessna Aircraft Company introduced its newest business jet, the Citation Longitude. Designed with comfort a leading edge technology, allows business people to stay connected. Boasting a 4,000-nautical-mile range and a maximum speed of Mach .86, the Citation Longitude will make a nonstop flight from New York to Paris, London to Dubai or Beijing to Moscow. At a price of $25.999 million, Cessna believes that the Citation Longitude is the best value 4,000-nautical-mile super mid-size business jet available. 96 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

Scott Ernest, Cessna president and CEO said: “The Citation Longitude sets itself apart with the largest Citation cabin, intercontinental range and a price point unmatched by other business jets with similar performance. This super mid-size jet sets a new standard for cabin efficiency, connectivity and stylish comfort.” The Citation Longitude will be powered by two Silvercrest engines, with 11,000 pounds of thrust, made by Snecma (Safran group). These engines lead the industry in fuel efficiency, weight and maintainability. The engines will be on an on-condition maintenance plan, which is expected to reduce the operating costs of the aircraft because maintenance intervals will be extended significantly. “We are thrilled to bring the Silvercrest engine to Cessna customers because of its best-in-class efficiency, reliability and quality,” Ernest said. “This engine is expected to take the Citation Longitude to a new level and give our customers the range, efficiency and noise-reduction they need to be successful in today’s competitive environment.” The Citation Longitude’s state-of-the-art cockpit features Garmin G5000 avionics with touch-screen controls and all of the capabilities required to comply with emerging operating requirements for intercontinental aircraft, including FANS/CPDLC, ADSB and RNP. With space for a crew of two plus up to eight passengers and one optional additional crew member seat, the Citation Longitude features a stand-up 6-foot (1.8 meter) high, 31-foot (9.4 meters) flat floor passenger cabin. Cessna’s intelligent cabin technology developed specifically for the Citation line, ClairityTM, will be standard on the Longitude to provide each passenger the ‘ultimate connectivity experience.’ Cabin seat configuration options include a dual-club eightseat arrangement and a four-place forward club with a three-place couch and entertainment credenza. Cabinlength indirect LED lighting is provided overhead in the passenger service units with variable adjustment for direct reading lights and more. For long-distance travel comfort, the cabin is equipped with a dual-zone temperature control, a fully operational galley with an oven and cold storage along with a pressurized water system. The aircraft features a large lavatory equipped with a vacuum-assist toilet. The cabin also features in-flight access to a spacious baggage storage area. As the longest-range business jet in Cessna’s product line, the Citation Longitude is designed to offer an estimated full fuel payload of 1,950 pounds, a maximum cruise speed of 490 knots true airspeed and a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles. The aircraft will have a maximum overall width of 86 feet and maximum overall length of 87 feet with a gently swept wing and advanced winglets for greater range, with improved hot/high performance, climb and fuel burn. Entry into service is expected in 2017.

Cessna's New Citation M2 milestone complete, we are looking forward to a successful flight test program and FAA certification so our customers can soon enjoy this great aircraft." "The Citation M2 development team is focused on bringing this program to maturity, and their dedication is reflected in the speed in which the program is moving forward," said Brian Rohloff, Cessna's Citation Mustang and M2 business leader. "Bringing this sleek airplane to market, so quickly, strongly positions Cessna in the marketplace and allows our customers to take advantage of its capabilities sooner." The Citation M2 is a new light business jet that fills the gap between the Citation Mustang and the Citation CJ family and gives customers another entry point into the Citation product line. Federal Aviation Administration certification (Part 23) is expected in the first half of 2013, followed by deliveries beginning in the second half of 2013.

With room for two crew and up to six passengers, the $4.195 million 2012 USD Citation M2 has a maximum cruise speed of 400 knots true airspeed and a range of 1,300 nautical miles. The aircraft can operate at airports with runways as short as 3,250 feet and will climb to 41,000 feet in 24 minutes.

The Citation M2's clean cockpit design is anchored by the fully integrated Garmin G3000 avionics suite and the aircraft is powered by a pair of FADEC-controlled Williams International FJ441AP-21 turbofan engines. It has an all-new cabin design, including the optional Cessna proprietary cabin management system that includes the latest interface options for greater in-flight productivity and connectivity. "I am excited to say the aircraft performance, handling characteristics and Garmin G3000 avionics were exceptional, just as we had anticipated," said Peter Fisher, Cessna's engineering test pilot who flew the Citation M2. Talk about a company stepping up with something cool, safe and easy to fly. That will still meet your design wish list, look to the ICON A5. An amphibious light sport aircraft that fuses outstanding aeronautical engineering with the ease of driving a car. The ICON A5 is a lightweight carbon fiber airframe powered by a single 100 hp Rotax 912 ULS engine driving a three-bladed pusher propeller. It's meant to evoke a change in sport aviation. In both design and safety, an aircraft like no other. With the ability to be stored in your garage and then transported and launched like you would any sport fishing boat. What makes this possible is the folding wings, a simple push of a button and the wing span goes from 34 ft to a trailer sized 8.5 ft. Thinking about bridges and under passes it comes to only 8.3 ft with a weight of 1430 lbs. Talk about fun, 65% of the vehicles on the road can tow this on the freeway and roll the A5 down the ramp. Park your vehicle and head off to a private affair. What I really like about the A5 is the innovation put into the aircraft, land anywhere, stall/spin-resistance, automotive or aviation fuel, and storage. Not only can you store an A5 in your large garage or access the A5 from your dock on the water; as the A5 comes with seawing platforms for easy access and docking. There are more features like Low stall speed, Angle of Attack indicator, optional parachute and more, but I will get into that when I do a more detailed review.

By Scott Black

It’s like taking your jet ski out for the weekend, the big difference is you and your passenger can really get away for the week. The A5 has a top speed of 120 mph and a range of 300 nm and I did say, “jet ski”. Something we are very familiar with, similar to your SUV or car; controls are very easy to read and the transition is easy. Best of all it is priced around $140k, so any barnstormer can afford an A5. Kirk Hawkins and his team at ICON developed the A5 to be easy to use. Kirk Hawkins brings his knowledge as an accomplished engineer and former U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter pilot. Kirk’s goal was to make flying small planes a luxury sport for the 21st century. ICON has won some of the world's most prestigious design awards since it development started. With new federal regulations from the Federal Aviation Administration, there is now a new form of pilot license which requires less training to obtain and fall into the Sport Pilot category. The Sport Pilot License focuses on the fundamentals of flying and requires a minimum of 20 hours of in-flight training, undercutting the time and cost of a traditional Private Pilot License by about 50%. The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has described the new rules as "the biggest change in aviation in 50 years." The A5 will allow you to go airport to airport, fly out of grass fields or farms, or to remote lakes; as it only needs 750 ft for both landing and takeoff. An affordable and stylist aircraft giving you the freedom to explore new and existing locations, by land, sea or air. www.iconaircraft.com

Take a Break

Tips for outdoor fitness By Danine Fruge M.D. Associate Medical Director at Pritikin Longevity Center & Spa in Miami, FL

K

now when to ease up, especially if you're traveling this summer to climates you're unaccustomed to. If you’re used to working out in cooler temperatures, accept the fact that you probably won't be able to exercise at the intensity you normally do. I recently talked with a patient who learned the hard way. Though she normally breezes through a three-mile run at home in Oregon, she barely made it through a half-mile stroll in the 100-degree heat of New York City’s Central Park last week. She was surprised to realize how much – and how quickly! – the heat and humidity wore her down. If you normally run, walk or jog. If you’re a brisk walker, slow it down. As your body adapts to the heat, gradually increase the pace and length of your workout. If you have a medical condition and/or take prescription medications, do ask your physician if you need to take any additional precautions.

If the humidity is also way up, you’re in double trouble because your sweat "sticks" to your skin; it doesn’t evaporate as readily, which can send body temperature even higher. To keep cool, make sure first of all that you’re drinking plenty of water. Since our bodies are about 50 to 60% water, it is vital to maintain this amount. We tend to lose about 2 to 3% during typical exercise and activity, especially on hot days. Because the Pritikin Eating Plan, full of fruits and vegetables, is so rich in water, you do not need to drink water before your workout, but while you’re exercising, drink 8 to 10 ounces of water every 20 minutes. After exercise, drink more – at minimum, another 8 ounces. Another great way to help re-hydrate during a break in physical activity is to eat a piece of fruit, such as an apple or orange, or even carrots or celery sticks. The fruit or veggies will also help replace valuable electrolyte loss.

Avoid the hottest part of the day. Rise early to catch the cool of the morning, or go out at sunset or later. In the heat of midday (typically between 10 am and 4 pm) take cover under shade. Jump in a pool. Sign up for an aqua-aerobics class. And carry a fan/spray bottle for skin surface cooling. Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing. Dark colors absorb the heat, which can make you feel as if you’re wrapped in a warm blanket. Heavyweight, tight-fitting clothing will also heat you up. Keep it loose. Keep it light. More air will be able to circulate over your skin, keeping you cool. Be sure to apply sunblock – UVA/UVB preferably with titanium or zinc dioxide, or at least avobenzene. Reapply at two-hour intervals, even if the labels have sweat proof and water proof claims that are hours longer. Many of these “long-lasting” claims are currently under investigation. Sunburn increases the risk of premature skin aging, and increases your risk of skin cancer. Another good way to decrease sun exposure is to wear wide-brimmed hats. • The biggest do’s and don’ts when it comes to heat wave hydration Drink up. Exercising in hot weather increases our body temperature. Sure, our bodies have built-in cooling systems that help us adjust to heat. That’s why we perspire. But this natural cooling system can fail if we’re exposed to soaring temperatures for too long. The result may be heat exhaustion – that awful fatigue that makes you feel as if one more step could be your last – and even heat stroke. 102 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

Keep track of your hydration levels. A good way to know that you’re hydrating properly is by checking the color of your urine. If it’s pale yellow (think lemonade), you’re well hydrated. If it’s darker (heading toward the color of apple juice), drink more. continued on page 104...

But do be aware that some medications and supplements alter the color of urine, so this gauge, while good for many, does not work for everyone. To be safe, do drink the recommended 8 to 10 ounces of water for every 20 minutes of activity. Don’t drink too much Be careful not to drink too much water, called overhydration. It can lead to a problem called hyponatremia (low blood sodium). The Pritikin Eating Plan provides enough sodium for active individuals and also provides at least half of the water needed. Bottom line: Drink during and after exercise and other physical activities. At other times of the day, drink when thirsty. Steer clear of sports drinks. They’re loaded with calories. Sports drinks are not worth the caloric weight. The Pritikin Eating Plan maintains high carbohydrate stores (glycogen). There is no need for additional supplementation. Sport drinks should only be considered if you’re of ideal body weight and exercising for long durations at high intensities. Even then, it’s a good idea to dilute sport drinks to avoid excessive calorie consumption. Eating fruits and vegetables during exercise provides ample electrolytes for the body, even further decreasing the need for high-calorie sport drinks. Keep in mind that the cause of muscle cramping is most often caused by dehydration, not as often from low electrolytes (potassium, magnesium, calcium), low salt intake or low sugar intake. So, rather than eating excessive amounts of bananas or salty or sugary snacks, increase your water intake, even if you don't feel thirsty. (Use the urine-color-tracking tip described above to monitor your hydration levels.) • Emergency tips for when you are feeling faint, lightheaded and/or dizzy from dehydration or heat exhaustion Tip #1 -- Don't let yourself get to the point where you're feeling faint, dizzy, and sick. Okay, okay, it kills you not to finish your four-mile workout. May I be so blunt as to suggest that it may kill you if you try. Paid heed to the heat. Listen to your body. If you’re feeling any of the following, find air-conditioned comfort fast. Weakness Light-headedness Dizziness Paling of the skin Headache Muscle cramps Nausea or vomiting Rapid heartbeat Always remember that even a 20-minute workout has positive health effects. It’s the number of days you exercise that matters most. Frequency of days far outweighs the amount of time of any given exercise session.

104 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

Tip #2 -- If you're feeling faint and/or sick, stop immediately. Sit down in shade, drink water, and always have with you a nourishing snack. Pick juicy snacks like fruit. The last thing you need in scorching heat are dry snacks like crackers, popcorn, or energy bars that require your body to add water. Plus, dry snacks are often dense with calories, which means they can easily foil weight-loss goals, summer or winter. Tip #3 – Know the symptoms of heat stroke. Heat stroke is a serious threat that can be fatal. Symptoms include a high body temperature (104 F or 40 C or higher), ABSENCE OF SWEATING with hot, flushed, or red dry skin, rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, strange behavior, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, disorientation, seizure, coma, and, if untreated, death. Sometimes there is little warning, especially among athletes training in hot humid conditions, and among the children and elderly. Do not leave the young and frail (or anyone, for that matter, including your pets) unattended inside a hot car. If you suspect that you or others are suffering heat stroke, call 911 immediately. Also, move to a shady area, drink/ spray cool water, avoid alcohol or caffeine (in tea and soft drinks), apply ice packs under the armpits and groin, and fan until body temperature cools to 101 F or 38 C.

Maintaining the Health of Hair Extensions. By Michelle Elizabeth

Tools: Opt for tools that are practical, rather than endorsements or packaging! Use a wide tooth comb with rounded tips, a loop (extension) brushes, and a soft bristle brush made of natural fiber to prevent less breakage and damage to the hair. Keep heat styling tools to lower than 300 degrees – excessive heat can internally burn the shaft and ruin the cuticle.

*additional tip: brush when needed! Brushing the hair consistently can encourage split ends and shedding which is only counterproductive to maintaining healthy hair.

Shampoos: Sorting through the plethora of products is the first problem…the second, how to use it. Don't over lather! Use a quarter-sized dollop and always start at the roots and work your way down to the ends. Conditioning: The biggest mistake is adding conditioner to your scalp! If you have fine, thinning hair, it will weight it down – making it heavier and resulting in a greasy buildup, which will display a visible separation from your natural hair and the extensions. Daily Maintenance: Avoid harsh hairsprays! Chemicals and alcohol found in aerosol sprays are extremely drying to the hair and causes excessive tangling, dryness and breakage. Instead of maintaining one style, it is practical to maintain the duration of your extensions. Drying: Towel drying is one of the biggest 'no-nos'. How many women are guilty of wrapping their freshly washed hair in a bath towel while they prep their skin and do their makeup? This process can lead to extreme dryness, matting and even worse – frizz! The roughness of the cotton can also cause breakage. It is best to squeeze as much as water out as possible, then patting down the hair with super absorbent PAPER TOWEL! It is lighter in texture and doesn't cause frizz.

Vitamins: Vitamins are ideal to protect your natural hair under the extensions – conquering thinning and promoting growth. Biotin, a form of Vitamin B, promotes hair growth. Vitamin E helps to increase scalp circulation, which stimulates hair growth. Michelle also adds that hair extensions can use a great trim every 6-8 weeks! With brushing and styling, breakage is bound to happen. Keeping a healthier appearance starts with the aforementioned tips along with regular visits with a trained stylist to keep your faux locks in tip-top shape. By Nick Whelan Voted the number one place to stay for several years running; the Wyvern Hotel has one unique location with spacious rooms, a super friendly staff and a few steps to fishing, great food, entertaining events and more. You would think that would be it, but this hotel offers more than a central location within the heart of Punta Gorda. A large meeting room for personal and business events, Lulu’s restaurant serves a premier flare of Latin Fusion. Take a dip in the roof top pool or just relax and watch the boats go by, you are treated to a quiet panoramic view of Punta Gorda. Afterwards, head over to one of the art centers or maybe the farmers market. There is always something that your whole family can enjoy. This is one of the most exciting places to be that sets Wyvern Hotel apart from the others.
