What Men Look for in Women
By Colleen Crawford
All men are different and what one man finds attractive isn’t necessarily going to be the same as the man next to him finds attractive. Plus, depending on what that man is looking for at the time, he will be attracted to different things. For example if he is just looking for a no strings attached fun romp then he is more likely to be looking at body shape and looks, but if he is looking for someone to have a serious relationship with he will be looking for personality, honesty and all of the other character traits that make a relationship work. There are some qualities that all men find attractive no matter what kind of relationship they are after. Confidence Men like women to have a certain amount of confidence; they enjoy catching the eye of a woman when she walks into the room, and if she can maintain eye contact with him all the better. It shows that she is confident in who she is, how she looks and has a self confidence that will make her easy to be around than the more shy and retiring types. Men like a woman that can stand on her own two feet for the majority of the time, but will still turn to her man for support when she needs it. They do not want to be with someone who is unable to make decisions and is constantly relying on them to guide them and support them. Make Him Laugh A good sense of humor can go a long way towards a happy relationship. Let’s face it, who would want to be stuck in a joyless relationship with someone who was always miserable. Men like a woman who can laugh at their jokes, see the funny side of life and generally have a good time without having to be always serious about everything. Along with a good sense of humor there is generally a positive outlook towards life, which is what guys want, they probably have enough negative influences in their lives without having a girlfriend that has had a sense of humor bypass. Pretty as a Picture There is absolutely no denying that men are attracted to a pretty face and a nice figure, we’re talking the basis of attraction here. Men are also attracted to women that have an air of femininity about them, the more feminine a women the more masculine she makes her man feel. They also like a woman with nice hair, it may sound a little basic but it’s true, a woman’s hair can add to or detract from her femininity. A well groomed woman with a pretty face and shiny hair is more likely to attract a man that a woman who cares little about her appearance or her personal hygiene. Independence Independence can of course be related to confidence, but the kind of independence that we are talking about here is the independence that allows her to take care of herself and stand on her own two feet. A woman who is comfortable in her own space and can manage on her own is far more attractive to a man than a woman who needs help with everything, men do not like a woman who appears clingy and needy. As much as a man likes the feeling of having a woman to care for and look after, he also likes his own space and time to himself, an independent woman can give him this. continued on page 52...

TIP for Women
By Tania Jain
Women are directly linked with fashion. It would be right to say that the word fashion is synonyms to woman. It is something more than wearing clothing. If you are an urban beauty, the fashion trend and style should go well and that too in advance with you. Few of the factors that define your fashion statement are body frame, skin tone, level of comfort and personal attitude. So beautiful ladies, come on, lets have a feel according to your body frame, skin tone and after all your level of comfort. Body Frame- Are you a plump women, if yes, try avoiding sleeveless cuts. Choose dark color clothing rather than lighter shades. Or prefer over a range of dull colors like dull blue or dirty blue. If you wear small prints and vertical line prints, you will look slimmer. If you have extra pounds in you, avoid kota sarees and cotton sarees and stick to Chiffon and Georgette Sarees. Choose beige and fawn colors, if you have a medium structure. In case of blouses, try on nets as these are of great help in disguising physical flaws. Thin women, cheer up, you will look gorgeous in all the color ranges. All the colors and shades will suits on you. You also can try on sleeveless, deep cuts and strapped blouses.
A noted philosopher and politician Aristotle once said, women are the best creatures of god. And for 'you' creatures that are bold, beautiful, gracious and smart, wrapping and carrying yourself is of utmost importance. According to the varying shape and size or body shape and colors, etc, here are few wrapping and carrying tips i.e. Fashion Tips For Women. But before jumping into those tips to make you smarter, beautiful and bold definitely you would like to know What is Fashion for Women, especially if you are a bit extra cautious about your looks and appearance. 26 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
Skin Tone- If you have fair complexion, gold with a blend of copper will make you cool. If you are a medium / wheatish colored, prefer mix shades of white, beige and bronzy golden. If you have dark skin, prefer to wrap yourself in golden copper shades. Personal Attitude and Level of comfort- Your attitude and level of comfort is very important along with your appearance and clothing sense. If you want to maintain a cosmopolitan outlook but do not feel very much comfortable with western wear, try Indo Western style. A blend of Indo Western style should add an extra charm to your personality. A boat necked saree with a squared necked blouse is definitely for a shy and introvert women. Bold 'n' beautiful should choose from sleeveless, deep-necked blouses and may be straps. So no matter what your body frame and skin tone may be or how bold your personality is, fashion is for you, LADIES.
Inimitable Pieces That Evoke Extraordinary Moments It is passion for gold and enthusiasm for the best craftsmanship – that which transforms a jewel into a work of art. The new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 unites the excellent performance and efficiency of the new generation of the 911 Carrera with the dynamic benefits of the latest version of the active all-wheel drive system PTM (Porsche Traction Management). The typical Porsche all-wheel drive with rear-focused layout in this latest 911 version guarantees maximum vehicle dynamics on a wide variety of road surfaces and in all weather conditions. The new 911 Carrera 4 models deliver traction and dynamic performance the power of four. The new all-wheel drive 911 is being launched on the market in four versions – as the 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4S and each as Coupé and Cabriolet. They sport the same traits as the rear-wheel drive versions: their lightweight body design, suspension, engines and gearboxes are identical, the only exception being modifications related to the all-wheel drive. This means that despite a higher level of engine and driving performance, all four models consume significantly less fuel than the previous models; total savings for individual versions are as much as 16 per cent. In addition, the new 911 Carrera 4 is lighter in weight. All new models have a 7-speed manual gearbox as standard, and the Porsche Doppelkupplung gearbox is available as an option. The 911 Carrera 4 Coupé with 350 hp can sprint 30 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
from zero to 60mph in as little as 4.2 seconds (Cabriolet: 4.5 s). The Coupé and Cabriolet of the 911 Carrera 4 S each have a 3.8-litre rearmounted boxer engine that produces 400 hp; this enables acceleration to 60mph in 3.9 seconds (Cabriolet: 4.1 seconds), depending on suitable equipment configuration.
The new all-wheel drive models replace a very successful previous generation, of which a total of about 24,000 units have been sold since 2008. This represents a 34 per cent share of total sales of second generation 997 models. This previous generation launched with one of the greatest development steps in power train technology that the 911 with all-wheel drive ever made: new were the engines with direct petrol injection, Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox and electronically controlled Porsche Traction Manage-
ment (PTM). In July 2011, Porsche crowned the model series with the 911 Carrera 4 GTS, whose 3.8-litre engine was boosted to 408 hp. In the new 911 Carrera 4, a new menu in the instrument cluster informs the driver how the PTM all-wheel drive is currently distributing engine power. In addition, with the debut of the 911 Carrera all-wheel drive models Porsche is introducing the optional Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to the entire model range, which controls distance to traffic ahead and vehicle speed. When ordered with PDK, the ACC system adds the safety function Porsche Active Safe (PAS), which helps to prevent front-end collisions. In addition, Porsche offers a new sliding glass sunroof as an optional feature for the 911 Carrera Coupé. Driving 911 cars with a manual gearbox and Sport Chrono pack can now be even sportier: In Sport Plus mode, the system automatically double-declutches during downshifts. The most distinct identifying feature of the 911 with all-wheel drive is still the wide rear section: compared to the two-wheel drive 911 Carrera models, the rear wheel housings each extend further outward, and the rear tires are much wider. The traditional red light band that connects the two taillights has also taken on a new form.

With the partnership between Bugatti and the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM) the renowned manufacturer emphasizes the ability in creating pieces of automotive art. The “L’Or Blanc” sits silently in the courtyard of the world famous Setai Hotel. A unique version of a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is the world’s first motor car to wear the finest porcelain on its body, as well as in its cabin. It captivates with an abstract exterior design. The “L’Or Blanc” is the world’s first automobile to be equipped with porcelain, and the development team invested a lot of effort to guarantee that each item is capable of performing in every driving situation in the most powerful car on the market. Before their application to the car, the porcelain elements were extensively examined in regard to automotive safety and quality to optimally protect the passengers in case of an accident. “Porcelain is one of the strongest materials but the grade of quality depends significantly on the excellence of the manufacturing process. We had to assure that the inlays perfectly fit to the filler caps, it has been a challenge for us to exactly calculate the shrinkage of porcelain,” explains Thomas Wenzel, Head of Design at KPM. Several times we stop, take a step to the left and to the right; they bend down and up again, looking intensely at the Grand Sport from different angles. Analyzing the reflections of light on the car’s body before we take a step back for a moment to get an overall impression. Thin blue lines flow over the bright white exterior of the fastest convertible in the world. It feels like visiting the atelier of an American pop-art artist. The creation bears the name “L’Or Blanc.” It represents an automobile that redefines the art of design. If you look at it through the eyes of a designer, you will recognize that it is the reflection of the studio lights on the body that attracts their interest. Positioned beneath a special light, the car is set in an ideal environment that provides an excellent image of the reflections. The
32 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
studio light is reflected on the invisible edges between the body shapes of the Grand Sport. In numerous stages each reflection line is translated by Bugatti’s designers onto the car body that has been pre-painted in a vibrant white tone. They use a precision tape made of Japanese soft tissue that can be easily torn off by hand. It adheres perfectly to sulphur-containing plasticine. By stretching them to a certain degree, these tapes are “lined” in pieces up to five meters long across the whole exterior of the car. “At first, it seems to be an unusual idea to use porcelain in a car, especially in the world’s fastest convertible,” comments Dr. Stefan Brungs, Director of Sales and Marketing at Bugatti Automobiles. “But this is what Bugatti stands for: the realization of exceptional ideas whilst striving for the utmost in quality and aesthetics. This allows us to continue Ettore Bugatti’s heritage, who himself loved to experiment with new materials.” Besides the signed porcelain inlays on the sides of the center console, an intarsia made of finest porcelain is fixed to the rear panel between the seats. Similar to the exterior porcelain elements this item carries the relief of the famous elephant in an upright standing position that has been created by sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti. His brother Ettore had used the original draft to cast the radiator mascot for the Bugatti Royale. This elephant is a synonym for the brand still today. Embedded in the top of the center console, there is a fine porcelain dish with edges finished in an exclusive diamond polishing - a technique that has been applied by the Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin for the very first time. The precious dish can be removed and is part of a picnic set that was exclusively designed by KPM for the Bugatti car. The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport “L’Or Blanc”, is a one-of-a-kind creation. Nevertheless, the partnership is supposed to be continued, and Bugatti’s designers received a lot of inspiration from porcelain painting offering a variety of new opportunities for the design.

This exclusive event setup for vintage car enthusiasts, was also the setting at which Lamborghini debuted its Urus SUV concept and Sesto Elemento trackday hyper car to North American enthusiasts. The celebrations to be held in Italy and abroad throughout 2013 will culminate in May, during the same week in which, 50 years ago, the Company was incorporated and the inaugural foundation stone was laid at its factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
The Lamborghini 50th Anniversary Grand Tour, expected to be the biggest Lamborghini rally in history, will run the length of Italy, and will be attended by Lamborghini owners and dealers from all over the world. From May 7-11, 2013, more than 1,200 km of Italy’s roads will roar with the thrum of hundreds of Lamborghinis. From the unforgettable historic GTs to the futuristic super cars of today, the cars will arrive from every corner of the globe to parade through some of Italy’s most beautiful cities.
On Tuesday, May 7th, the cars will gather in Milan, Italy’s capital of fashion and design, leaving the next day for Forte dei Marmi, one of the most exclusive resorts on the Tyrhennian coast. On Thursday, May 9th, they will set off towards Rome, with a triumphant evening arrival in the city center. On Friday, May 10th, the cars will depart towards Bologna, via Orvieto, arriving at Emilia-Romagna’s capital during the evening.
For one of world’s most sought-after super sports cars, Lamborghini enthusiasts are invited to take part in this year’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. A tribute to the original roots of a luxury super sports car coming of age.
The many events organized worldwide in celebration of the Anniversary will also be characterized by a high level of solidarity and public conscience. Lamborghini will donate 10% of the proceeds of sponsorship revenue to a fund established to help rebuild religious, social and cultural centers damaged by the devastating earthquakes that hit Emilia-Romagna in May this year. The donation is a tribute to the native region of Lamborghini, who remains strongly linked to its original roots, despite the global nature of the business. Saturday, May 11th will mark the closing day of the celebrations: the cars will head off in procession from Bologna towards Lamborghini’s famous factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, where participants will visit the historic museum, the production facility, as well as enjoy other Lamborghini experiences. A gala dinner held at the factory will end a thrilling day packed with events and entertainment. At each stop, Lamborghini fans will be able to admire the cars. The Anniversary website – www.lamborghini50.com – went live on August 17th, 2012. Until the end of 2013, the site will keep Lamborghini owners and fans informed with regular news updates about the celebrations, detailed information about the Tour, as well as city stops and arrival times, making sure that all the brand’s enthusiasts are included. Lamborghini owners and dealers can register for the Tour beginning September 20th 2012. FOCUS of SWFL 2012 35

Business air travel has become more popular over the past few years, due to our increasing need within our global marketplace. Whether you engage in air travel for business, touring, visiting family or other purposes, it has become a more pleasurable experience for many. Not only for large corporations and high net-worth individuals, but small and mid-size companies willing to meet the business demand. Gulfstream, an award winning company with over 50 years in the jet market, will be releasing its new super mid-size business jet; the G280, aimed at providing best in class performance in business aviation.

What makes the G280 such an improvement? It’s what you expect from a super mid-size luxury jet; speed, range, safety and comfort. From an altitude of 43,000 feet covering 3,682 nautical miles, speed of Mach 0.80, from Dulles International in Washington D.C. to Geneva in 7 hours and 47 minutes is just one example of the exceptional qualities of the G280. How about traveling at Mach 0.80 from Dallas to Washington D.C. for a total flight of 2 hours and 20 minutes, landing with NBAA IFR reserves? Let’s leave from Paris Le Bourget Airport for a meeting in White Plains, New York at Mach 0.80 with air time as quick as 7 hours and 40 minutes? All dependant on flight conditions. These improvements are in part to a new high-speed wing design and Honeywell HTF7250G engines improving the G280’s fuel efficiency. Giving the G280 a shorter balanced field length of 4,750 feet, allows the G280 the ability to land and take off from many air fields.
38 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
Within the cockpit, Gulfstream brings a proven philosophy from Gulfstream's large-cabin aircraft to the super mid-size G280, the PlaneView280™; improved safety through reduced pilot workload and improved situational awareness. With the optional HUD II and Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS II), which can be used during low visibility, and additional part of the system which includes auto-braking to enhance safety and improve brake wear and tear, the G280 is top at its game. This is the first to be done in the industry. Within this class of aircraft, you would most likely expect the same large and comfortable cabins, which sometimes comes at the sacrifice of other items. Not so with the G280. You get large windows; which reduce fatigue and provide a very comfortable environment, a large galley; to indulge yourself while in flight, and easy access to baggage.
"At certification, the G280 will lead its category in every significant aspect of performance and comfort,” said Larry Flynn, president, Gulfstream. “It offers the largest cabin, flies farther and uses less runway. In fact, it flies farther, faster and uses less fuel than the G200 it replaces. The G280 will offer unsurpassed mission flexibility for a business jet of this size.” Many are willing to spend opulent amounts to ensure that their private jets will satisfy various personal and business requirements, such as luxurious interior. The demand for industry aircraft interiors with technological advances has been met as a result of the G280. It has room for up to ten passengers in two seating areas, and the most spacious business cabin in its class. The aircraft allows you and your team one of the most comfortable seating areas to complete whatever task you may have at hand. The G280 offers corporations, government entities and private individual’s world-class interior quality at the very highest level. Gulfstream has been a company that has been receptive to the needs of its clients. For example, the company has included an all-new Gulfstream Cabin Management System to meet the needs of the business traveler. If you are familiar with using an iPod, then you can easily use this system, giving you the ability to control every option from monitors, temperature, lights and more, from your fingertips. You have the convenience of creating your own flight experience.
Need to send important documents or relay vital information? Consider it done. Whether you wish to work, sleep, dine, or just relax, you can download the GMS software to your device and it will sync with your device. Using intuitive screens and menus, you can set and save preferences for a particular flight. What is really amazing about this system is that it allows each passenger the same control. It works by being synced to any of the seats within the aircrafts floor plan, ensuring privacy for flyers. A truly innovative system for travel, making your every wish its command, the Gulfstream G280 has many improvements within its class by combining improved fuel efficiency, speed, technological advances, room, and maintainability. With its lower operating cost, I may have to say, the “G” stands for “Green” for Gulfstream’s new super mid-size jet. No matter how fast you get there, Gulfstream’s G280 will make sure you’ll be quite revitalized as you approach your destination. FOCUS of SWFL 2012 39

PHANTOM COUPÉ AVIATOR
By Mai Yomioto
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is the world’s leading luxury goods manufacturer. And while the world of luxury presents many objects of desire that captivate one or more senses, it takes one of these hand-built cars to awaken them all. Approaching this luxurious Rolls-Royce and opening its doors immediately ignites the senses for sight, taste, touch, sound and aroma. And the sense of surprise and delight continues as your guests encounter the lavish use of soft, sumptuous leathers, finest veneer detailing and special bespoke enhancements. Inspired by Charles Stewart Rolls and the legend of the Schneider Trophy-winning Supermarine S6B (powered by a Rolls-Royce R Type engine), Rolls-Royce Motor Cars proudly present the Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection. The collection celebrates the spirit of human endeavour that drove a very British hero and subsequently led Rolls-Royce to simultaneous world speed records on land, air and in the water. The first in the collection of 35 Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection models – which feature a suite of exclusive design concepts, colour combinations and new materials – debuts today at the Pebble Beach Quail gathering in the United States. 40 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
“Our founding forefather Charles Stewart Rolls was a pioneer who pushed the boundaries of motoring and aviation to the limit,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, RollsRoyce CEO. “With our exclusive Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection we celebrate this great British hero, presenting a car which hints at experiments in early flight married to the best engineering, modern design and exquisitely crafted materials. The collection takes Rolls-Royce Bespoke to new levels of subtle, yet beautiful detailing.”
Photography courtesy Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
Finished in Aviator Grey, the Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection features a contrasting matt bonnet, window and grille surround while inside, the interplay of wood and metal hint strongly at a cockpit theme. A Thommen, aviation-grade clock with blood orange needle tips is embedded in the metal foil upper fascia, complemented by matt black dials for power reserve, speedometer and fuel gauges.
The leather-lined glove compartment includes an embossed Charles Rolls quote following his first flight with the Wright Brothers in 1908: “The power of flight is as a fresh gift from the Creator, the greatest treasure yet given to man.” A centre console chrome plaque describes Rolls – only the second man in Britain to hold a pilot’s licence – simply as Pioneer Aviator, below a representation of his sweeping signature.
The lower fascia is veneered in mahogany, painstakingly shaped by craftspeople just as the early recordsetting propellers were fashioned and features Sapele contrast. Polished stainless steel veneer ‘onlays’ with bullet-shaped ends are designed to match floor mat fixings.
Fitted with leather floor mats, Aviator Collection cars have also been designed to incorporate the Rolls-Royce of cup holders. Beautifully engineered in highly polished aluminium, the designer’s aim was to deliver functionality, but with that special combination of theatre and jewellery, both of which are expected by every Rolls-Royce client.
Between 1931 and 1933 the Schneider Trophy was held in the South of England, soaring over the Solent and the Witterings in West Sussex, a location no more than 10 miles from the current Home of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Goodwood, England. Collection cars celebrate the victorious S6B aircraft with transmission tunnel in anodised aluminium with exposed torx fixings and swage lines that echo the oil cooling veins on the S6B fuselage side. These highlights are repeated on collection car armrests.

Years of Performance The AMG Story
By Mai Yomioto
Around the world, the three letters AMG, embody automotive high performance, exclusivity and dynamic driving excitement. This month, AMG founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher is celebrating its 45th anniversary. The image of AMG as the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz is reflected in its impressive successes in the world of motorsport and its unique approach to creating high-performance vehicles. Today it is a one hundred percent subsidiary of Daimler AG and is the group’s technological spearhead in the high-performance segment. The AMG brand promise of “Driving Performance” stands for state-ofthe-art technology and pure driving excitement.
AMG will continue its consistent growth beyond 2012 and make significant contributions to the sales achieved by Mercedes-Benz Cars. Based on a future growth strategy entitled, “AMG Performance 50,” in the coming years, AMG will add several new models to its broad high-performance portfolio. Anniversary
p
You wonder why she’s glaring at you over breakfast and notice the way she slams the door as she leaves without a goodbye kiss. It’s not until an hour later that you glance at the calendar and get a sickening feeling in your stomach. It’s your anniversary… and you’ve forgotten all about it. Don’t worry, here you’ll find some great anniversary ideas! What to do as soon as you remember Don’t panic and ring her up to wish her a happy anniversary, thus admitting you’d forgotten about it to begin with. Instead, send her a coy text message or email along the lines of ‘I hope you’ve kept tonight free.’ Don’t make mention of the day or any specific plans (easy, as you don’t have any); this will pique her interest. What to do in the next 1-3 hours Make plans and make them good. It doesn’t have to be an expensive dinner, though that can go a long way. It should be something that she will enjoy; seeing a play she’s wanted to see for awhile, going on a boat on the river – anything you know she’d love and you’d usually do anything to get out of. Ring around until you have a reservation somewhere.
Then… Call her or send her a text or email to tell her you’ll pick her up at 7 or 8 or whenever. Also give her an idea of what to wear, i.e; if it calls for her to break out her little black dress or not. Lunchtime Go Shopping. If you’re at work this is what lunch breaks are made for and if you only have an hour then you’ll have to do it fast. Steer clear of flowers and chocolate. Jewellery and perfume can be great if you get them right but choose the wrong scent or a piece she doesn’t like and it’ll look like a token gift. Again, it doesn’t have to be expensive; just make it something she’ll like and that shows you know her well. Before you pick her up If you have the money then spring for a taxi to take you out. It’ll add a date-feel to the whole evening and that way you can both drink without having to worry about how to get the car home. When you see her dressed up to go out tell her she looks amazing. Be sincere. And the final tip… Don’t forget your anniversary again. Program a reminder into your computer or your mobile phone or anything that will send you an alert a week in advance next time. It’ll be that much easier. By Jason Ladock
What Men Look for in Women
continued from page 24...
Empathy and Understanding Men want a woman to listen to them, not someone who is far too engrossed in their own lives, or constantly moaning about their own life to spare him some time. A man will be more attracted to a woman that can empathize with him and show him the understanding that he needs, than someone who moans and nags who offers little in the way of support or appreciation. Honesty and Loyalty Everyone man or woman wants to be in the kind of relationship where the emphasis is on honesty. No one likes the thought that they are being lied to, and a man just like a woman, appreciates a loyal and honest partner. He is looking for someone that will be faithful to him, not be flirting with his friends the minute that his back is turned, and someone that will remain by his side through the ups and downs of life. Relaxed and Easy Going Men do not like relationships that are hard work, women who are more concerned about their appearance and what other people think of them is not generally someone that he can have an enjoyable relationship with. Men like the kind of woman who doesn’t mind if she smudges her makeup, or her hair gets a little tousled. While personal care and appearance is important to him, he needs to know that she can relax and let her hair down and be laid back. This is especially important if they are looking for a long term relationship, as when it comes to commitment men are more attracted to the ‘girl next door’ personality than that of a glamour model. Caring and Supportive Men like to feel that they are being cared for, while they enjoy having the status of man of the house or breadwinner, they like those little tokens of affection, small gestures that show them that they are being loved and cared for. Even something mundane as having his shirt ironed for him, or finding his sandwiches made for him before he goes to work can mean as much as a grand romantic gesture. They like to know that their girl is paying attention to them and taking care of the little things that mean a lot, a woman that does everything for a man can leave him feeling suffocated and overwhelmed, but get the balance right and you have a happy relationship. Men also like to know that they are being supported in their choices, whether it’s a career decision or a life decision they need to feel that you are by their side, able to offer advice when required and listening to his thoughts and reasoning objectively, and supporting him in his choices. 52 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
1. Humor Virtually there is no man who doesn't find it attractive to see a woman with a good sense of humor. After the physical appearance, it is often one of the first things men will notice and appreciate. It is great to be a professional woman, but men need a little sense of humor to spice things up. Learn to laugh honestly and take things with joy to make yourself more attractive to men. Life is beautiful, enjoy it, be happy and allow yourself to reflect your pleasure in public. 2. Intelligence A clever woman is an attractive woman, at least for most men, as not all men are attracted to "a pretty dumb doll". Many women only speak about the latest hairstyle or the latest Glee episode, it could be a little dull to many men. Many women only prioritize on their sexual appeal and pay little attention to their brain. In contrast, many men love to engage in intelligent and challenging conversations with women. 3. Flexibility Maybe some man is attracted to a woman who has enough flexibility to do somersaults in the air, but they are more attracted a woman who has flexible ideas, comments and suggestions, without being too stubborn and arrogant. Men tend to have stable relationship with a woman who can adapt to the changing situations without breaking their own principles. 4. Generosity Many men rated generosity and altruism as the characteristics of an attractive woman. It shouldn't be surprising, because a generous and selfless woman is clearly capable of looking beyond the present moment and see the needs of others. 5. Good self-esteem Men attracted to women who seem to be comfortable with themselves. In general, men prefer women who don't feel like a garbage and behave as if they are worthless and simply lack confidence in themselves. To find self-esteem, you should trust yourself, you're a woman and therefore you need to do what it takes to be attractive to a man.
6. Dynamic Impulsiveness, energy, drive and passion in a woman really attract most men. Usually, it is usually a good indicator of positive self-esteem, as the woman has the energy to deal with new challenges. If you set your eyes on something, fight for it and struggle to achieve it, this would not only make you a more successful person but also make you more attractive. 7. Unique Many women with good physical appearance look bland, they just behave and talk the same. Just be yourself, but add something in your life that can convince men that you're not just an ordinary woman. 8. Spontaneous Many men do things without a plan or do things not according to the plan. Occasionally allow yourself a bit of creativity, relax and release all, spontaneity inside you and give him a good surprise. Things that are done spontaneously have an enormous capacity to be really romantic, so don't hesitate to let yourself loose once in a while. 9. Motherly instinct The motherly instinct is not necessarily only for raising children, there are qualities within it that can make any woman more attractive to men. Even a young woman should be able to care, comfort, cuddle, help and support her lover. Men like to be taken care of, for example, if he catches a cold, let him lie on the sofa, put a blanket over him, give him light kisses and tell him to rest while you are preparing a hot, delicious soup. You'll be highly appreciated. 10. Tenderness Tenderness is a quality that is almost indispensable to the eyes of almost any man. This doesn't mean you have to be soft and tender all the time, but at least you should know when he needs a woman who can support him. Tenderness is a feminine quality that men love just like how women like sensitive men, you have heart and feelings, use them to win his heart.

In an ambitious contemporary creative project that crosses design disciplines and brings together all the facets of the brands renowned expertise, Montblanc celebrates the life and style of the late Princess Grace of Monaco with a collection of Fine Jewelry and Writing Instruments. A true icon of the 20th century, Grace Kelly, who became H.S.H. Princess Grace, is remembered and revered for her classic beauty and her inimitable style, both effortless and timeless. Far more than mere surface style, it was an innate elegance, an integral part of her character, touching every aspect of her life and work. Elegance that shone out through her talent as an Oscar-winning actress, through her indefatigable charity work, her commitment to family and her ongoing, lifelong support for emerging artistic talent. This style and spirit, charisma and compassion are now distilled into a dramatic series or “family of precious, hand-crafted collection.
The essential petals are, as the name suggests, interlaced to represent and celebrate the loving union within a couple, the mysterious, magical intimacy bonding a man and a woman. The petals are intertwined to create a neverending garland, characterized by soft, undulating surfaces and sophisticated volumes. The skilled artisans set the petals in a style evoking precious lace while the final creations caress the wearer in the ribbon-like embrace of eternity, the foreverness of precious materials. Warm pink gold, capturing the light with every movement, and brilliant diamonds, to highlight the natural essence of the petal, are skillfully crafted together to create a contemporary, yet timeless, declaration of love.

Looking Forward
By Susanne Hurni
Patrik P. Hoffmann was born on 30 November 1964 in Reigoldswil, Switzerland, where he lived until 1989. Following his training as Accountant, qualifying with the Swiss Federal Certificate (CPA), he was drawn to the USA, where he continued his education at Andrews University, Michigan, studying English, Marketing Management, International Marketing, Sales Management, Marketing Research and Marketing Decision Making. In 1991 he returned to Switzerland with the intention of advancing his knowledge in the field of international sales, and here, in the position of Regional Sales Manager at the watchmakers Oris SA, he looked after the markets USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Germany, and Scandinavia , in the period until 1996. 56 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
In the year 1996, the watch distribution company Swiss Prestige Ltd. offered him a position in Malaysia, so Hoffmann moved to Kuala Lumpur with his wife and three children. As managing director of the firms Swiss Prestige Sdn Bhd, Kuala Lumpur, and Swiss Prestige Pte Ltd, Singapore, he supervised all marketing operations in Singapore and Malaysia, among other duties. One year later, in 1997, he additionally assumed the management of Oris International Ltd, Hong Kong, and after one more year, again in addition to his existing work, became managing director of the Asia Pacific regional office of Oris SA Switzerland in 1998. During his sojourn in Malaysia, Hoffmann met Rolf W. Schnyder, who was then the owner and president of the Swiss watch manufacture Ulysse Nardin. Mr Schnyder was looking for a dynamic leadership personality with solid marketing skills and a thorough knowledge of the international watch industry to build up the market position of Ulysse Nardin in the USA. Schnyder and Hoffmann quickly realised that they shared the same vision. In 1999, Hoffmann and his family relocated to Florida. Being the new Vice President and Managing Director of the regional office North America and the Caribbean of Ulysse Nardin Inc., Hoffmann was in charge of the entire business supervision. Under his leadership Ulysse Nardin enormously expanded its presence in the USA and in the Caribbean. The year 2008 saw Patrik P. Hoffmann being appointed to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing Worldwide, and since then he has been dividing his working time between Le Locle (Switzerland) at Ulysse Nardin’s head office, and Boca Raton (Florida, USA) in the U.S. corporate offices. In addition to this he regularly travelled to visit the retail outlets of Ulysse Nardin around the world. In the year 2010 Ulysse Nardin opened the first free-standing boutique in the United States, another milestone in the company‘s history. After the sudden demise of Rolf W. Schnyder, the Extraordinary General Meeting nominated Patrik P. Hoffmann as the new CEO of the traditional Swiss manufacture. Like his predecessor Rolf Schnyder, Hoffmann too sees the independence of Ulysse Nardin as one of the central factors in the corporate strategy.

The revolution starts from below the waterline, and specifically in the engine room, that houses a triple Volvo IPS-1 system: three 435 hp engines with pod and double counter-rotating propellers placed at the front. The choice of the Volvo Penta system in this unusual configuration was fundamental for the dynamics of the project. Compared to the same power output from just two engines, the triple installation makes it possible to reduce the bulk and length. Moreover, since it involves a vertical transmission with pods, and not in-line propeller shafts, it was possible to place the engines right aft and assure the space needed to include a garage able to stow a 2.85 m tender. The total power output of 1,305 hp is accompanied by limited overall weight, thanks to the use of glasscarbon composite for large areas of the deck and deckhouse and, above all, thanks to the making of structural parts in pure carbon fiber. The use of glass carbon composite has resulted in an overall reduction in the weight of the hull by 10% compared to a hull of equal size made from traditional fiberglass.
The sporty performance is proved by a top speed of over 36 knots, as shown by the sea trials undertaken. Moreover, the choice of three engines rather than two opens a vast chapter of benefits: at comparable horsepower, three engines weigh less than two, consume less than two and produce fewer emissions. If one engine should break down, the remaining output will be two-thirds of the total (whereas with two engines, it would be halved). Three turbocharged engines have less inertia than two and respond more quickly, with increased reactivity and sense of sportiness. And finally, the distance between the two external engines, and thus between the two external pods, is greater. This allows for increased effectiveness in maneuvering, especially in mooring. Stefano Righini, Azimut’s long-standing designer, has taken the opportunity offered by the new layout to optimize and innovate all the spaces aboard, starting with the stern. Wholly new, original and innovative, the bathing platform appears at first sight to be a normal teak
platform jutting out over the sea. But a simple press of the button transforms the zone: the garage door, which is fixed to the bathing platform in an L shape, opens and bends towards the sea. As a consequence, the original bathing platform dips into the sea and disappears underwater, replaced a few seconds later by a new bathing platform. To launch or retrieve the tender, one need only slope the door/bathing platform further and make the boat slide over special rollers. It is rather inappropriate to speak of “inside” and “outside” as though they were two distinct settings in a boat of the Collezione S. The opening of the sliding hard top, available either in GRP or with large glass panels, makes it effectively a single space, thanks also to a continuity of design, style, materials and colors that are identical in both the saloon and the cockpit. Here, the large teak table can be lowered electrically to the level of the C-shaped sofa. In this way, with the addition of cushions, the dining area can be transformed into an enormous area in which to relax and take in the sun. continued on page 62...
FOCUS of SWFL 2012 61
The main deck is formed of a single uninterrupted level. On top of assuring greater comfort and safety, the lack of steps has enabled the designers to include a forward-facing sofa in front of the windscreen, thus adding a new setting (unique in this category of boat) in the forward relaxation and sunbathing space. The crew’s cabin is located right in the bows, with access from the main deck through a hatch. Its positioning here gives the owner a greater degree of privacy, as it avoids the crew-member having to pass through the cockpit to reach his accommodation. At the same time, it also offers the crewmember greater privacy, as the bow area is generally visited less, especially in port during the evening. As a result of the moving of the crew accommodation, the VIP cabin, third cabin for guests and Master cabin can be moved aft, being located amidships where they benefit from greater volumes, the widest point of the vessel and greatest stability. The lighting panels are full height in all the cabins, while the luminosity attains new levels with a new design for the horizontal windows in the hull, providing a generous amount of daylight in both the VIP and guests’ cabin. The Master cabin also has the traditional six hull windows on each side, providing an unparalleled amount of light. An “open space” philosophy in which exteriors and interiors blend seamlessly into a new space formed of sunshine, light and air to accommodate up to 12 guests in the saloon and cockpit. New comfort and advanced solutions make it possible to adapt to any specific requirements. The 55S inspired style and sportiness character assures perfect form and comfortable cruising.

A Mix of Passion and Vision
By Ewa Stachurska
68 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
Behind the success and dynamic development of the prestigious Sunreef Yachts brand stands its founder and president, Francis Lapp. Born in 1958, in French Alsace, Francis is a true titan of work: he distinguished himself early in his career, quickly moving into management positions and starting his own business soon afterwards. His first major undertaking was to manufacture switchgear cubicles for major companies such as Coca Cola and Siemens. Production began in France, but the business soon moved to Poland. Francis first visited the country on the invitation of the Warsaw Automobile Club, where he took part in a rally and won third place in general classification. Passionate about rallying, especially in his beloved Africa, Francis continued along his journey to discover Poland’s immense development potential throughout the 1990s.
In 2002, construction halls were leased in the famous Gdansk shipyard, with construction work commencing soon afterwards. The first, highly innovative, luxury catamaran, Sunreef 74, was launched in 2003, and became the shipyard’s ticket to all major yacht shows in Cannes, Monaco, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and Genoa. Sunreef 74 debuted as the world’s first oceangoing catamaran with a flybridge equipped with a centralized helm station adding a deck level that considerably expanded living space.

Just two weeks after the rally, the entrepreneur returned to Warsaw, this time to live there and start a business. In 1992 he opened HTEP POLSKA Ltd, for the production of switchgear cubicles and soon expanded services to include the design and installation of electrical, sanitary and air conditioning systems in large industrial facilities. Francis’ new friends influenced him to sail a small racing catamaran on a lake near Warsaw. He enjoyed it so much that he decided to buy one for himself: a cruising catamaran with cabins to pursue his travelling dreams. At the Paris Boat Show, Francis bought his first catamaran and had it shipped to Madagascar. Next, he opened Sunreef Travel, a travel agency specialising in yacht rentals on the Indian Ocean. The company grew quickly as clients demanded more comfortable and larger catamarans. While trying to source such boats, Francis discovered that there were no suitable yachts available on the market. This inspired him to get involved in building large, custom, luxury multihulls. His flourishing company, HTEP POLSKA, provided financial resources that allowed Francis to invest in his new business and start his lifelong adventure with yachting. He opened a shipyard in Gdansk, a city with ancient traditions in naval construction and with an experienced workforce. Charmed by the city’s rich history and splendour, he dropped his anchor on the Polish Baltic coast.

reef 82 Double Deck. The key to the company’s spectacular success is due to a combination of several factors: activity in a niche market sector, locating the design office and production facility under one roof, availability for client meetings at all times, high quality custom finishes , and innovate solutions for each client. Sunreef also has a wide range of support services that are highly appreciated by owners: yacht charter, yacht management, and after sales service with technical support.
Today more than 60 yachts, both sailing and power, are cruising worldwide and spreading the unique Sunreef touch around the globe. The company is now the world leader in the design and construction of large, customized luxury catamarans. Even though annual production steadily increases, Francis remains focused on build quality rather than quantity. Innovation, at the very core of Sunreef’s vision, motivates the construction of two new models each year. 2010 was a very special year for the company with the launch of two superyachts exceeding 100 feet LOA: IPHARRA and CHE. These stunning yachts have certainly made an indelible mark on the superyacht world, and prove that catamarans are a fantastic alternative to super and mega yachts. In 2011, Sunreef Yachts introduced a new cruising catamaran model, the Sunreef 58, and has two new projects under construction that will be completed in 2012: the 60 Sunreef Power and Sun 70 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
The 60 Sunreef Power was made in response to the growing demand for compact yet highly impressive powerboats. This yacht has all the features of the popular 70 Sunreef Power, except its 27.8 ft / 8.5 m beam that makes it more convenient for crowded marinas. It is also an interesting alternative for traditional motoryachts with its lower fuel consumption, long range of 3500 nautical miles, superb living space with the best comfort and intimacy for the owner and his guests, customized interior design and stability.
Having spent almost half his life in Poland, Francis is now fluent in Polish and has been able to create a strong and motivated team to carry out his innovative vision with unstoppable passion. The Sunreef shipyard is his big dream, and every, single yacht launch is a powerful moment for him.
www.sunreef-yachts.com
The first unit of the 60 Sunreef Power will be laid out in a semi-owner version with two double cabins in the forward section, two double cabins in the starboard hull, and one double, one bunkbed cabin in the port hull. All cabins have private bathrooms and abundant storage. The interior of the main deck will feature the galley and a dining area, while a mezzanine floor located in the midship will feature the internal helm station and lounge, providing access to the forward guest cabins and the flybridge. The spacious sun deck, Sunreef’s speciality and trademark, comprises the external helm station, wet bar, dining area and a huge sun pad, ideal for outdoor lounging in the sun. There is also an option to include a Jacuzzi on the flybridge. The interior design is modern and minimalist, based on wenge and oak contrast, finished with cream and white upholstery and brushed stainless steel details. The mould is already completed, with the hulls and wet deck made in-house, and the superstructure with flybridge engineered by the Dutch company Nedcam with Styropor / PU-paste system on a CNC milling machine. The hulls and wet deck have been infused with glass/vinyl ester/balsa sandwich using vacuum infusion technology. The next step will be the installation of bulkheads and the addition of the flybridge, scheduled for mid-December 2012.

Inspiration
By Ewa Stachurska
Following the successful launch of two mega catamarans over 100 feet each in 2010, the Sunreef shipyard has been designated as a builder of an 82ft double decker sailing catamaran with the latest design, featuring sleek hulls and a streamlined deckhouse topped with a giant 35m2 flybridge inspired by large superyachts. The European client, impressed by the elegance and unrivalled spaciousness of the 102ft IPHARRA, selected Sunreef’s original Double Deck design. “This sale was concluded thanks to Sunreef’s well-proven capability to build large custom yachts for demanding owners and according to the highest construction standards. The last few years of simultaneous construction of the two mega catamarans have given us invaluable experience that we will strive to improve with the Sunreef 82, our first superyacht built of composite materials,” explains Francis Lapp, Sunreef’s CEO. The everlasting stylish look of the hull line is the result of Sunreef’s advanced design technologies and ongoing research into new solutions and inspirations. Sunreef's Naval Architecture Bureau is studying performance and sea capabilities using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) at its highest levels in collaboration with K-Epsilon and Rivoyre Ingenierie based in Sophia Antipolis, and applying Finite Element Analysis to structural calculations for the optimization of structural parts.

The Sunreef 82 DD has been designed with integrated stepped hull chines to increase interior space without compromising on performance. In the double deck concept there is one spacious owner cabin in the front, and a large and bright salon with an internal helm station with sea views. That is why this model is a perfect alternative to a traditional motoryacht which consumes tremendous amounts of fuel. The Double Deck catamarans have a chance to become superyachts of the future with their comfort on board and low fuel consumption resulting from its low draft and the possibility of cruising on sails in keeping with the maximum stability at all times. This private yacht accommodates up to 7 guests in one beam-wide owner suite, one VIP queen cabin and one guest twin cabin convertible to a double cabin with an additional Pullman bed, attended by two crew to assist the owner, a sailor himself. The Sunreef 82 DD features the canoe type boom and carbon mast, Sunreef's in-house speciality. This additional floor provides more space below decks for extended cabin or storage space. The main deck also includes a second lounge area and provides access to the crew hull on the port side and guest hull on the starboard side. The 32m2 owner suite, arranged over two floors, is set to occupy the entire forward section of the yacht with a master cabin, Jacuzzi and vanity on the main deck, and a walkin wardrobe and bathroom located below decks in port and starboard hulls respectively. The right corner of the master cabin includes LED-lit Jacuzzi set on a two step platform, surrounded by an orchid jardinière, providing amazing sea views through beam-wide 180 degree panoramic windows. The vanity is positioned in the centre and a low Japanesestyle king-size bed with two night tables occupies the left part of the suite. Guest cabins are generously sized with three way access to a queen size bed with spectacular sea views through 6-part large windows, and have a separate bathroom and shower, spacious wardrobe, several lockers, a comprehensive entertainment system and air conditioning. Interior design has been customised following the owners’ suggestions, and combines light and natural colours and materials finished in a classic style. The impressive 64 m2 cockpit holds a large dining table for up to 8 guests, sunbathing mats, wicker armchairs, a flower area, and storage for diving equipment. There is additional space for a tender and a jet ski hidden in a purpose-built locker under the main sun pad in the cockpit. The spacious 34m2 flybridge is fitted with the main helm station, bar with barbecue and ice maker, large dining table and comfortable deckchairs, as well as a coffee table. The Sunreef 82 DD superyacht is built of light high-tech composite materials that the shipyard introduced to construction in 2007, and was launched in July 2012. 74 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

MAIDEN
OYAGE
She swept majestically into Jersey last weekend, turning more than a few heads as she did, and was formally handed over to her owner by Chris Cleverly and Nigel James of Princess Motor Yacht Sales together with Chris Gates, Managing Director of Princess Yachts International. After a brief stop, this magnificent new yacht set sail again, making light work of some large seas across the Bay of Biscay as she went. Making quite a splash and combining an impressive gross tonnage, with a sleek and purposeful profile, the 40M will offer six-star accommodation for up to 12 guests, with well-appointed cabins for up to eight crew and the largest internal volume in her class. Everything about this stunning yacht is measured in superlatives, from its luxurious staterooms to the voluminous garage in the stern, which has space not just for large tender, but for two personal watercraft as well. Within the elegant parameters of the 40M’s hull and superstructure, owners of course have carte blanche to create the yacht of their dreams – no two will ever be alike. There is an impressive variety of layout options to choose from either four or five guest cabins on the lower deck, for example and you can choose to have a cinema instead of one of the amidships cabins down below, and a gym in place of the other one. The focal point of the yacht will undoubtedly be the magnificent main deck with a beautifully appointed saloon and formal dining area surrounded by vast windows and 76 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

hydraulically folding balconies on both sides of the saloon which are fitted as standard. Forward of the main deck is the owner's suite, occupying the full beam of the hull as the side decks are raised at this point. The suite is accessed through a versatile ante-room which can be specified as an office, private TV room, a reading room or to suit the owner’s personal requirements. Forward, an opulent single or matching pair of bathrooms is accessed off the dressing area which also features two substantial walk-in wardrobes. On the third deck there is an elegant ‘sky lounge’ and an additional exterior dining area for private drinks and dinners and a curved stairway leads up to the palatial Sun Deck complete with extensive bar, seating, sunbathing and an huge spa tub. The enormous professional galley was designed to the exacting brief of a professional chef and is impressively equipped with two catering-size fridge-freezers, a hot and cold chef’s pass and a huge pantry. To ensure everything is served swiftly and easily there is even a dumb-waiter which runs from the main deck to both the upper deck and Sun Deck above. “It’s safe to say that this is the most demanding project we’ve ever worked on!” smiles Princess Director of Creative Design, Sarah Verey. “The first 40M has occupied a huge proportion of the team for well over a year so far – and of course we’ve already produced layouts for the second one.”
The interior is a classic confection of contrasting tones, textures and surfaces, full of visual and tactile treats, set off to perfection by the huge areas of window, which will fill both the main deck and accommodation areas with daylight. “We’re introducing several new timbers on this boat,” says Verey. “Macassar ebony has been selected for the dining and coffee tables, for example – cut to produce a unique starburst grain effect to the coffee table. We’re also having the main deck’s walnut sideboard doors specially made in a herringbone grain pattern.” The yacht’s principal decorative scheme features horizontal-grained satin walnut bulkheads, wenge flooring on the main deck, and walnut flooring on the sky deck. Signature pieces include the impressive, full-height, etched-metal mural by Christofle in the dining room, and there is an eyecatching abstract created from hand-painted and lacquered panels on the forward bulkhead of the sky lounge. “We have also used various granites and stones – actually they’re lightweight, stone-faced aluminum honeycomb panels – as contrasting features in floors, bulkheads and worktops. The ‘mocha crème’ limestone in particular has a real visual warmth, and contrasts beautifully with the Bisazza mosaic tiles on the floor,” adds Verey. “It looks wonderful.”
T
he wheelhouse is equally impressive with a vast ‘glass bridge’ incorporating the control and monitoring system in a stunning console and the captain’s cabin is also situated here adjourning the helm. Power comes from a pair of nine-ton MTU 12V diesels, which will propel her to speeds of up to 22 knots. Two 80kW generators share the machinery space, where the automatic fuel handling system is sensitive not just to the needs of the engine and generators, but to the trim of the hull as well. The 40M has been designed and built using some of the most advanced technologies and techniques seen in boat building today from state-of-the-art Computer Fluid Dynamics ensuring the even most intricate of detail is considered prior to any tooling being made, to the highly developed resin infusion process to produce the hull and entire superstructure which provides significant benefits to vessel weight and rigidity so improving overall performance and efficiency.

1998 Jaeger-LeCoultre 101 ring-watch
Jaeger-LeCoultre
Ever since the 16th century, ladies’ watches have delighted in reinventing the rules of the game of seduction: exploring the full spectrum from invisible to dazzling and from concealment to revealment, while engaged in a perpetual quest to strike the perfect balance between beauty, refinement and telling the time. Jaeger-LeCoultre has enriched this tradition by creating “secret” watches with covers, as well as swivelling and pivoting models, rings and pendants, covering a range of styles streatching from the purity of Art Deco to the most expressive floral motifs. 106 FOCUS of SWFL 2012
Radiating ultimate aesthetic appeal and supreme elegance, these creations unite the twin arts of exceptional watchmaking and fine jewellery. Such masterpieces could only be created in the workshops of the Manufacture that so fully masters the subtle intricacies of mechanical perfection and the most exquisitely delicate gem-setting techniques.
1954 Jaeger-LeCoultre Ladies' watch
Over the centuries and in step with changing dress codes, women have determined the aesthetic of time and the ways in which it is worn. They have adopted all manner of innovations and horological complications. They have combined beauty and perfection, thereby enabling watchmaking to draw nurture from the art of jewellery and goldsmithing. Whether hung from a long sautoir necklace, attached to the belt by a “châtelaine” chain, concealed within a brooch or a snuffbox, watches have displayed the multiple, ever-changing and secret facets of their nature – very much like women themselves. And when 18th and 19th century customs held that ladies had no need to measure time or to enquire about the time when in company, the dance of the hours was delicately cloaked in pearls and precious stones.
Jaeger-LeCoultre has always lavished special attention on feminine timepieces, in terms of both their aesthetic and their mechanism. In particular, this tradition dates back to the smallest round movements with an extremely small diameter, such as the LeCoultre Calibre 7HP created in the 1880s, and which equipped enamelled watches set with diamonds and pearls, generally worn around the neck.

Her first collection called “Illustrations in motion”; showcases her collection of 11 different types of garments with her personal illustrations. The connective and dominating motive of each creation is a woman as a form of expression and surrounding synonyms of modern reality. Agglomeration of complicated shapes, when one emerges, the other vanishes or they interchange into geometric human forms. It’s creation of relations between different figures, shapes and forms of life. What differentiates this project from other forms of artistic expressions is the unique combination of illustration and specific type of fabric – Tyvek; well-considered of both creative usability and original composition.

Nihan Altuntaş
By Lina Lasalle
I have always had a passion for creating and designing. I never liked pattern books or reproducing brand sweaters. I would design authentic knitwear by improvising with needles, sometimes not even knowing what the result would be. So I’ve realized that crafting was my lifelong passion. The appreciation and approval from so many over the years, for all of my hard work is the basis of my motivation to improve myself in this field. I love working with my team as we develop the brand. I can say that professional support allows me much more time for creativity. Today, thanks to the internet I have lots of international customers & friends. By time, all the great and supporting e-mails that I get every day, made me dream a new fashion brand called “Nihan Altuntas”. This support encourages me for bigger steps with my future plans. I'm thrilled with the idea that somewhere in the world, someone is actually warmer, in a woolen sweater designed and knitted entirely by my hands. I may knit in a traditional way like grandmothers do. It allows my designs to have a very personal touch. But I don't like my designs to have that “Hand knit” look. I feel so happy when people ask my customers, “Where did you buy this sweater?” rather than “Did you knit the sweater by yourself ?”. I feel very delighted when I hear how many people ask my customers that question. I believe, it really shows the quality of Nihan Altuntaş designs. Living in a hectic and very dynamic metropolitan area; everybody is in a hurry and time is of high importance. Generally, when you have an evening planned after work, we don't always have enough time to go back home to change. I think, living a city life affects my style; I mean you can save time because, Nihan Altuntaş designs are also wearable for any occasion. I love exaggerated forms; for example not to knit something as a collar but a collar in a different form. As a result, sophisticated sculptural silhouettes also become comfortable and wearable in ordinary day knitwear’s. During both creation and knitting the most important thing for me, and each design would be unique and authentic. If I see any similarities between my work and any other designs I stop work immediately. At this point, I show no mercy to my work because people trust me. Thus, they turn my authentic designs into their own exclusive apparel; by selecting their own color and material taste. 122 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

1,000 Aventadors produced
The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 today achieved an important milestone in its history, with the 1,000th vehicle produced. The Argos Orange vehicle with chassis number 1,000 rolled off the assembly line, destined for Germany. Its new owner, Hans Scheidecker, received the keys today from Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann. The Bavarian architect is a passionate Lamborghini customer, already owning a Lamborghini Diablo. The Sant’ Agata Bolognese plant’s productivity has noticeably increased for the Aventador LP 700-4 compared to the previous flagship model: the Murciélago took two years and five months before the 1,000th example rolled off the assembly line. Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2001, the Murciélago reached the 1,000-vehicle milestone in February 2004. The Aventador has taken just one year and three months, with production increasing from three vehicles a day in Q3 2011 to 4.5 today.
This production milestone is not the only accolade for the V12 super sports car from Sant’ Agata Bolognese. Indeed, little more than a year from its official debut, the Aventador has been crowned queen of the super sports cars with no less than 36 international prizes for its design and innovative technological solutions. The success of the Aventador is also demonstrated by its order book, which continues to cover the next 18 months of production.

The Margaret Barbieri Conservatory of Dance
The Sarasota Ballet School is excited to welcome the first year of students to the new Margaret Barbieri Conservatory of Dance. Opening this week, the eight-year classical ballet program was created to train exceptional dancers who possess strong, clean classical technique. With a great emphasis on artistry, musicality, purity of line, coordination and a quality of movement, this elite Conservatory aims to graduate students who are capable of integrating effortlessly into The Sarasota Ballet and other top professional dance companies. This year, the inaugural program will include 12 students, ranging in age from 11 to 16, who will participate in the curriculum for two to five years. Margaret Barbieri, Assistant Director of The Sarasota Ballet, is delighted to put her name to this new program and to see her vision for a classical ballet conservatory come to fruition. “The training of young dancers has always been near and dear to my heart. Some students may become our professional dancers and teachers of the future and, therefore, providing a higher tier of training is essential. I look forward to working with these extremely talented dancers.”
Margaret Barbieri was born of Italian parents in Durban, South Africa, and went to England in 1963 to study at the Royal Ballet School. Two years later she joined the Royal Ballet Touring Company (now Birmingham Royal Ballet) and became a Principal in 1970. During her 25 years with the Royal Ballet she danced most of the leading roles in the repertoire including Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet and La Fille mal Gardée. She also worked closely with some of the great ballet masters of the 20th century, including; Ashton, MacMillan, Cranko, de Valois, Tudor and van Manen and roles were created for her by Sir Frederick Ashton, Sir Peter Wright, Anthony Tudor, David Bintley, Michael Corder, Geoffrey Cauley, Joe Layton and Ronald Hynd. Dame Ninette de Valois and Dame Alicia Markova were her mentors and Markova taught and coached her Fokine’s The Dying Swan and Pavlova’s The Dragonfly.

In the future, the Conservatory will not only audition students from within but recruit and audition new students from around the country. These students will be as young as ten and stay in the program for all eight years. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for gifted dancers to receive a high level of training in classical ballet and be able to remain in the Sarasota community to perfect their artistry,” explained Barbieri. The curriculum, devised by the highly skilled and experienced staff at The Sarasota Ballet School, in conjunction with Barbieri and the Director of The Sarasota Ballet, Iain Webb, will consist of the following courses each week: • • • • • • • • • •
Six Ballet Technique classes Three Pointe classes Two Pas de Deux classes One Character class One Pilates class One Music class Two Modern/Contemporary classes Three Repertoire Classes – Solo and Corps de Ballet Two Virtuosity classes Injury Prevention and Nutrition classes
In addition to the regimented course work, all students will be responsible for completing three hours of classroom work daily. Assisted by tutors, the young dancers are accountable for completing their education. Once all high school requirements have been fulfilled, there will soon be the opportunity for students to receive their BFA from partnering universities. “These are thrilling times and I am confident that each and every one of our students this year, and in the future, will benefit from the incredible challenges before them,” said Barbieri.

ART
The
of Rafael Soriano By Deborah Charnes
Rafael Soriano was born in 1920 in Matanzas, Cuba. He fled the island with his wife and daughter in 1962. The family settled in Miami, and he was forced to temporarily take a respite from his artwork. When he returned to his artwork, Soriano began to combine abstract forms of light, space and shadows with metaphysical images. He has exhibited widely in the Americas and in Europe and is included in a myriad of museum collections.
Candor of Dawn by Rafael Soriano
“These important paintings by Rafael Soriano are excellent additions to the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection,” said Dr. E. Carmen Ramos, curator of Latino art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. “While the museum’s collection includes important works by Cuban American artists—especially those that were educated in the United States like Ana Mendieta and Maria Brito—these Soriano acquisitions allow us to capture the perspective of the first generation of Cuban exiles who arrived as adults with significant careers in Cuba already under their belt.” A founder and early director of the School of Fine Arts in his native Matanzas, Soriano was a committed member of the communal life of his city. A member of the third Cuban avantgarde, Soriano’s early work in Cuba was a manifestation of geometric abstraction. Throughout the 1950s, he exhibited and was associated with the Pintores Concretos group of artists that introduced geometric and concrete abstraction in Cuba.
This summer two major paintings by Cuban master Rafael Soriano were given to the Smithsonian American Art Museum for its permanent collection. These two works, Un Lugar Distante (A Distant Place) (1972) and Candor de la Alborada (Candor of Dawn) (1994), represent significant moments in Soriano’s artistic production. “Rafael Soriano has been called one of the major Latin American artists of his generation, and one of the premier painters of Cuba,” said Milagros Soriano, who donated the celebrated canvases to the Smithsonian American Art Museum. “So it was fitting that his artwork be represented at our country’s leading art institution.”
Soriano’s art experienced an extraordinary transformation along with his personal life as a Cuban exile. Soriano developed rectilinear, angular compositions endowed with strong, flat colors and forms that gave way to organic ones, and color became simultaneously deep and diaphanous. Soriano transforms abstraction into a visual space where forms express metaphysical and spiritual concerns, not unlike those found in the works of his fellow Americans Mark Rothko and William Baziotes. Un Lugar Distante and Candor de la Alborada are excellent examples of these shifts and resolutions. Un Lugar Distante will be featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s forthcoming exhibition Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art, opening Oct. 25, 2013.

The battle of the sexes has been fought for centuries. And it still seems to be alive and well. Both sexes frequently share with me, their inability to understand the other. In particular, many women have difficulty understanding, why many men don’t seem as interested in family or relational matters. This one issue alone comes up time and time again and is the cause of great frustration and power struggle in male-female relationships.
Understanding where women are coming from allows men to see what kind of support women need and value. For example, most women find that in men’s zeal to “fix” an uncomfortable feeling, they will often offer solutions when their partner is upset. What most women want at this time is simply for their partner to listen without judgment. While neither of Gray’s descriptions of gender behavior fits for all people, it seems true for the majority. If we hope to let go of power struggles in relationships, we need to begin to accept these differences and push our own personal growth beyond our cultural gender conditioning.
make a real connection
As I see it, two things have to happen to break this power struggle. 1) To begin with, both Men and women need to learn about and accept their differences. To do this topic justice requires a book. I recommend couples read: John Gray, “Men are from Mars, Women Are From Venus” You can take your partner’s behavior much less personally when you really understand that it is not just particular to them but to many members of their sex. 2) We can all seek to grow beyond our conditioned gender roles. This will only serve to expand us as humans. We may be somewhat restricted by our biology and conditioning, but we can work toward becoming more balanced in regard to our male and female sides.
Call Livelinks. The hottest place to meet the coolest people.
While, I believe we must be very careful not to over generalize about gender differences, there does seem to be enough evidence to make some observations on this touchy matter. John Gray says that “Martians (men) value power, competency, efficiency, and achievement. Their sense of self is defined through their ability to achieve results.” He says “they are more interested in “objects” and “things” rather than people and feelings. And Martians pride themselves in doing things all by themselves.” Understanding where men are coming from allows women to see why many men often react negatively to unsolicited advice, avoid support groups and counseling, don’t tend to read self help books or be as concerned about relational matters, and often like to “fix” other’s feelings. However, just because men are conditioned this way does not mean they are powerless to make changes which might work better for them. 136 FOCUS of SWFL 2012

A typical Leg Press machine would just have you working in the Forward and Back direction. But what if you chose to do a Squat instead? Here’s how you could hit all directions: 1. Basic Squat – Feet shoulder width apart and sit back as if you were going to sit on a bench and then use your legs and butt to come back up to a standing position. (Forward and Back)

Plant-Based Compostable Toothbrush Every year in the United States some 450 million plastic toothbrushes make their way to landfills nationally. The majority of those toothbrushes will never biodegrade and will remain for decades. To reduce those staggering numbers, a company known for creating a long line of compostable products made from plants not petroleum, is launching the first compostable toothbrush in the United States. World Centric has unveiled a line of compostable toothbrushes and travel cases that are made from a plant based resin called Ingeo. The toothbrush and case are certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI). They are also more environmentally friendly, having a smaller carbon footprint because Ingeo takes less energy to produce than petroleum based plastic resins. The World Centric toothbrush is designed to fully compost within 3 to 6 six months when sent to a commercial composting facility. Simply throwing the World Centric toothbrush and case away and off to the landfill will not
allow it to biodegrade. Landfills are created to avoid degradation and will not break down the toothbrushes. So, for those customers who don't have access to a commercial composting facility in their area, World Centric will even provide a prepaid envelope that customers can use return the toothbrush and case. World Centric will then send the returned product to a composting facility for biodegradation. The soft bristles of the toothbrush are made of nylon but are not compostable - the industry is still working to come up with bristles that are fully compostable. A handy notch between the head and the handle of the toothbrush is designed to make it easy to break off the head prior to sending it to the composting facility. The 7-inch World Centric toothbrush and case comes in blue, green and orange and sells for $4.55. They are available at natural grocery stores, some Whole Foods stores nationwide and online at: www.worldcentric.org

How A Dog Saved my Life Author Barbara Brunner, a self-proclaimed dog addict, weaves the poignant yet hilarious tale of her life with nine rescue dogs and the bonds that are formed from their shared survival stories. Brunner draws on early life lessons to love all animals. The love she gets in return is literally lifesaving for both her and her dogs. From Madison, or Houdini in a Dog Suit to Cooper, the medical wonder-dog whose diagnosis was more accurate than a mammogram, their shared survival stores are captivating. Brunner says, “rescue dogs provide so much more than family companionship. They fill a gap in the soul. And...can empty out your wallet!”. She is certain that somewhere in doggie heaven there is a Most Wanted Poster of her and her husband that says “If you are sick, injured or in need of very expensive medical care...FIND THESE HUMANS!” Isabella, Brunner’s Parson Russell Terrier, feels that she is quite misrepresented in the book, exclaiming “it’s lies...all lies...” to which Brunner has responded with a stack of veterinarian bills that would pale any challenger.

LOVE Soft
in the Kitchen
By Rori Raye
I was thinking about softness, and how it changes your vibe. We're all very smart, very clever, very defended. We don't want anyone to see how films about animals make us cry, or our scrap booking, or all the mistakes we made and continue to make around everything in life. We don't want anyone to see that we're lonely, or frightened, or exuberant about the simplest things. We don't want anyone to see us being childlike and hopeful. So we cultivate our intellect, our opinions, our thoughts on where we've been and where we're going. Today I was in the kitchen eating what I'd cooked, when my husband walked in. I have a horrible history of burning food. There was the time several months ago when I retreated to the microwave, defeated, afraid my absent-mindedness would burn the house down (talk about repressed rage). In the last few weeks I've been trying the stove again – scheduling cooking time, staying put in the kitchen, turning on the timer, sharpening my attention, and not burning anything! I'm cured! I'm a cook! I'm not a menace, I can do this! And the ground turkey I cooked in the pan smelled very nice on my plate. And he says, alarm and accusation in his voice, "Did you burn something?" "No!" I look up at him in shock. "It smells like you burned something. Something's burned." and he walks into the kitchen. "No, no!" I defend, going for the pan, picking it up to show him, feeling five years old and incompetent. "It's just nicely brown, see?" I say forcefully, totally righteously. It's his nose that's wrong. "Well, it smells like something's burned." All of a sudden I get what I really feel. Yes, I'm five. I screw up my face and do big time mock crying and whining. "But I didn't burn it!" I wail. "I didn't... " and I go all gooey, pan in my hand, miserable. And in that second, my husband does a 180. His eyes go deep and very blue-green, he smiles so fast I'm taken aback, and he comes towards me, arms around me, "Ohhhhhhh," he says. And that's the end of it. "So, how's your day?" he skips right to his next thought, and he's standing right up against me, and we're connected, and I leap from five-year-old to grownup, from lump to goddess. Long ago, whenever this happened, I used to think it was because he was competitive and didn't want me to be big. I thought he liked me girly and the loser at chess and gin rummy. I thought he was scared of my fortitude. Now I know that's not it at all. He just likes me better soft. He likes me better where I am than where I wish I was. He likes me better human than mistake-proof. Love advice: And by liking me better this way, he encourages me to rise to the ultimate test of any relationship: He inspires me to say that I like myself best when I'm with him.
