what is life without it?
This is something I don’t ever want to have to think about. So, I will give you a vision into my world with a quick spin of the kaleidoscope.
and so on. Assisting others in the undying need for social media awareness of anything and everything that has a good meaning to it has become yet another passion of mine.
Paying it Forward & Letting My Passion Fly that would be the best description I could give you. To describe everything that I am about would take me more than this article can hold. I live a double life with that many may not know. By day, for the past 14 years I’ve made my living as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. To be a part of the healing process in people’s lives, and being a part of making them whole again … Who wouldn’t feel passion behind this? By night and any other unscheduled moment in a day, I am a promoter and photographer.
Thankfully for others who do not have vast knowledge of social media, marketing, or advertising I have now become a search engine of information without them having to click the “on” button of a computer search for it. Somehow with all of this I have become very well-respected for my passion and professionalism to a point that I now create/manage many social media portals to increase the public awareness of the musician’s passion. Somewhere along the lines of all this, I have now become a booking agent, a band manager, fan page moderator, and all around “superwoman” of assistance.
I have always loved photography, and 4 years ago I decided to pursue it on a more professional level. I came up with this crazy name Passionfly Photography, it has branded me with the motto … “Let Your Passion Fly”. I can’t say that I have any specific category of photography that I appreciate more, only that I love what I see through the lens, and get a jolt of inspiration every time I review images that leave footprints on the lives of those that were captured by my shutter.
I am now embarking on a new adventure with something that I didn’t really ever know could or would be possible. I was fortunate enough to have been able to meet another very driven, hard working, and passionate person who envisions a lot of the same things I do, but he is the musician I am not. So, we have collaborated together on a new business concept to help musicians everywhere … If they have the same drive, dedication, passion, willingness and want to succeed.
I’ve always loved music, but never had a true appreciation for it until I began consistently listening to live music. The vision of musician’s passion heard in a voice, with a strike of a drum, or a lick of a guitar purely amazes me. Thank you to all the musicians that have given me a different vision of music than I ever thought would be possible for me. You have let me feel your passion through the eye of my lens, and I love it! I am a social butterfly, and always have been. Do I need to be the center of attention? No… But, do I want to be standing in the wings feeling the same passion & excitement they do, yet in my own way? Of course! So, by the click of my shutter and my tenaciously viral ways on the internet … I’ve created a completely different angle with my passions. I may have created a monster with the amount of knowledge that I have bestowed upon myself, not because I have to… But, because I want to. People often ask me if I sleep. The answer would be: not too much. But, how can I when I have so many visions and ideas that I want to share with the world, and continue to pay forward whatever I can to help others? This has now compiled into the multi-faceted way that I promote local & national bands, organizations, events,
Over the next few months we will be creating the master plan to create plans to help musicians create their own success with greater professionalism and respect for their talent. Thankfully I appreciate the passion, drive, dedication, and understanding of others that I know that I’m not in this to make a lot of money or become famous. I’m fine with being behind the curtain, as long as the appreciation does not go unsaid. A “Thank You” goes a LONG way, but if you don’t say those two words, how does anyone know that you truly appreciate what they did for you? Dreams don’t have to be something we wish would happen … Make them come true! Go the distance and Stand Strong for what you believe in! And, as always … “Let Your Passion Fly” and never forget to “Pay it Forward”!

ITALIA!

As you may know by reading my articles, I am one of SWFL’s busiest live music entertainers. You may have even seen me perform at any number of venues in the area as I work mostly in upscale restaurants. For the past few months, every Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 6pm I have been performing as a soloist or with a guest artist as a duo at BiCE Restorante in Naples. I have become familiar with the management, staff and menu at BiCE and I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you what I have discovered about the food, wine, music and people who run the top rated Italian restaurant in Naples. First, let me tell you about the food. It is no wonder BiCE brings the most authentic Italian cuisine to the table. They use the freshest ingredients and the award winning kitchen is guided by the experience of the amazing Chef Massimo Pisati. The Northern Italian based menu is extensive and consistently pleases the traditional Italian cuisine diner as well as satisfying a more international palate like mine. I would like to recommend a particular dish but I can’t seem to focus on just one as every meal I have eaten at BiCE has been superb. The wine menu, as one would expect at a world class Italian restaurant, has something for every casual wine drinker to enjoy as well as the connoisseur. BiCE also features a full liquor bar and has one of the best happy hour deals out there. BiCE holds a special place in my heart as a musician because they are one of the only places left in SWFL that feature 100% LIVE music entertainment on a regular basis. There are no soulless “backing track” acts... it’s all LIVE as one would expect from a better restaurant. The line up this season includes some of the finest musicians anywhere. Classical violinist Oleg Timuta treats guests at BiCE several times each week as well as the amazing pianist Daniel Stefanko. One of my favorite local artists, Andy Wahlberg, performs on Wednesdays and as I mentioned, yours truly on Fridays and Saturdays. I don’t understand how I ended up working among these musical giants but I’m glad the guests at BiCE like what I do. If you have not gone to listen to Oleg, Daniel or Andy... GO! It’s an inexpensive way to hear some of the best LIVE music anywhere on the planet. The staff at BiCE under the supervision of General Manager Luca DiFalco (pictured) is an 12 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
amazingly efficient team that compliments the BiCE reputation. DiFalco was nice enough to spend a few moments sitting with me for an interview at the popular restaurant and here is what I learned about him. He always dreamed of being the manager of a grande Hotel and thought the restaurant business would be a great place to start. When the opportunity presented itself he started his career in Sardinia and Northern Italy where he acquired the basis for the skill set he has now. He enjoyed four years working at the Miami BiCE before coming to SWFL. I learned that after his move to the Naples BiCE in 2008, DiFalco was also tasked with training managers for other BiCE locations around the world. With an education and work background in hotel and restaurant management, and running one of the most successful food and beverage businesses in the area. I’d say he’s well on his way to realizing those dreams. DiFalco makes good use of his extensive experience in restaurant management to enhance the fine traditions of the BiCE Group. I think they are lucky to have him... A recent expansion project that now makes BiCE one of the largest restaurants in the area is definitely something for Luca and his staff to be proud of. The interior is comfortable and spacious and the outdoor tables are charming and have picturesque downtown Naples as a backdrop (corner of 5th Avenue South and 3rd Street South). In the event of less than perfect weather all the exterior dining areas can be enclosed in mere moments. The bartenders are friendly and generous, the wait staff is attentive and courteous, the music is eclectic and fun, the atmosphere is perfect and... the food?... Magnifico! I encourage you to take a look at the menus, history and philosophy of BiCE online. Tons of locals and tourists from all over the world flock to St. Petersburg to visit the one-of-a-kind Salvador Dali museum beautifully situated on Tampa’s breath-taking Bay. In addition to two oversized galleries that host the world’s largest Dali collection, the two-story facility also features a creative gift shop, café with Spanish inspired cuisine and outdoor seating around a melting-clock inspired garden. Whether pieces from Dali’s early 1920’s collection intrigue you or his most popular surrealistic pieces, the Salvador Dali Museum can feed your appetite. Apart from a spectacular exhibit, the museum has ongoing events each month. These events include yoga classes hosted at the museum as well as lunch with the curator. Bambay Bangles
P
amela P.Puccia the founder, creator and designer of Bombay bangles had a childhood dream of someday doing business with her native country of origin-India. She has traveled numerous times on extended vacations with her Parents since she was a child, of her dreams was to open up a company creating treasures of India whether it was jewelry, clothing art & crafts accessories . In 2009 that that dream came true with the creation of Bombay Bangles. The east Indian culture, architecture, Food and lifestyle was always so vibrant and full of life in her eyes; she wanted to share that with her western lifestyle and friends at home. Pamela created this company with one thing in mind…Every woman from every social economic level should be able to buy and wear beautiful, one of a kind, handmade jewelry. Authenticity of a Bombay bangle has been kept intact on how they are designed and created by highly skilled and trained East Indian artists – Pamela and her design partner Saptarshi Mitra who

is stationed in India and their twenty artisans are constantly drawing new designs and experimenting with rare colors. What is a Bombay Bangle A Bombay Bangle is made in India, these bangles are not mass produced, thus every bangle is one of a kind. Each stone is delicately placed in every Bombay bangle. Our company uses a material called “lak” which is a clay ceramic pottery mixture which is created by soil and earthen material excavated from the foot hills of the Himalayan Mountains native to India. This lak material is pored into already made molds and as soon as this is poured the artisan goes to work strategically placing all of the ornaments onto the bangle. The glitters used on these bangles are not retail level but are a high grade which could not be recreated. The glitter is literally put into the paint, as this cannot be done with regular craft materials. There are no glues or plastics in a Bombay bangle, the glass used in some designs are all hand blown. Bombay Bangles frames are made from a variety of hard metals such as Brass, Bronze, Stainless steel and Tin; each bangle created is a mini work of art that you can wear.

yron Lars started designing under his own label in 1991 with a small collection of sportswear focusing on what Lars refers to as “twisted American classics.” Taking inspiration from such unlikely sources as his grandfather’s hunting jacket, Byron crossbreeds it with a “Dior New Look” proportion to create a Dutchess of Windsor meets Field and Stream hybrid. Juxtapositions such as above, or as in taking a men’s cotton dress shirt and then distorting it to the point of resembling a Dorothy Lamour sarong, have become Byron Lars’ trademark. “When edgy fashion is steeped in something familiar, it becomes far less alienating to the consuming public,” says Lars. After only his second season in business, Women’s Wear Daily hailed Byron as “Rookie of the Year.” His line was immediately snapped up by such prestigious retailers as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s as well as one hundred other specialty stores throughout the U.S. along with some distribution in the U.K. and France. “I saw it a few days ago and was blown out of the water,” exclaims Kal Ruttenstein, senior vice president and fashion director of Bloomingdale’s referring to the premier fall collection of

Lars. “He has the freshest point of view of all the young American designers.” Byron’s range of designs became most apparent in his Seventh on Sixth runway presentations in which he created accessories as mere fashion show props, only to attract the attention of licensees in handbags, furs and hats. His notoriety also led to his designing a limited edition of designer Barbie dolls for Mattel. By the contractual end of his licensees, Byron chose to direct his energy away from the designer collection and focus on a contemporary line and pricing structure. “I wanted it to be more about the clothes and less about the ‘hype’,” says Lars. This redirection was the beginning of “Byron Lars Beauty Mark.” Initially a cotton Lycra shirting based offering, Beauty Mark took its cue from the shirts and shirt dresses of the previous collection that put the designer on the map (only this time, without the lofty price point). Since its inception, Beauty Mark has enjoyed eight years of success and is now expanding its product line to include knits, sportswear and dresses in addition to the chic and sexy shirts for which the line is highly sought after. Drum Circle by Tiffany Apostolou
W
hile sitting at Nokomis beach watching the sunset with a friend one evening, Chip Nary decided that this beach would be the spot for a new drum circle to branch off from the circle on Siesta Key beach. They started it about 12 years ago. It began with just those two, but within 6 weeks, it had taken off. “It’s the coolest thing.” says Nary. “It’s a delightful time at the beach. It’s always changing; so many people come and go over time. It’s something magical.” Coming to the drum circle is never the same twice. A vast array of things can be seen there. This particular night was met with rhythmic dancing, hula hoops, glow sticks, gymnastics, belly dancing and juggling sticks. Another night… who knows? The crowd was very diverse. Young and old, new comers and veterans, and generations of families can be found sitting around the circle. Many were asked what the drum circle was about and what it meant to them. Each time, no matter which group of comers a particular person fell into, the response was almost the same. Evan, who was twirling around glow poi tonight, says that it’s about community. “It’s the beat, the rhythm, and the love.” Richard, a new comer to the circle finds that “The rhythm of the drums fills you up. It’s a thank you to the sun and an invite to come back the next day.” Jojo has been attending for 10 years. 30 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
For her, it’s a celebration of the day, a connection of people, and a time of relaxation. The atmosphere of the circle was one of constant ease. It felt as though everyone let go of their problems. There is a very real sense of openness and acceptance. Anyone can come and go and do as they please. As I walked off the beach, I found myself dancing to the beat and wanting to come back again. The drum circle is held on Nokomis beach every Wednesday and Saturday night, gathering about an hour before sunset. Sunday night is held on Siesta Key beach, and little known to most, Monday nights are at Venice beach. It’s rain or shine every week of the year. Listen for the drums, and they will lead the way to an evening that won’t soon be forgotten.

ith the Aventador LP 700-4, Automobili Lamborghini is redefining the very pinnacle of the world super sports car market – brutal power, outstanding lightweight engineering and phenomenal handling precision are combined with peerless design and the very finest equipment to deliver an unparalleled driving experience. With the Aventador, Lamborghini is taking a big step into the future – and building on the glorious history of the brand with the next automotive legend. The first customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 in late summer 2011.
In the hands of its driver, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is a high-precision machine – spontaneous, direct and always reliable. The driver is also assisted by the latest electronic systems such as the incredibly sporty, adjustable ESP system. When it comes to passive safety, front, headthorax and knee airbags play their part alongside the extremely stiff carbon-fiber cell. The technology package of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is utterly unique. It is based on an innovative monocoque made from carbon-fiber that combines exceptional lightweight engineering with the highest levels of stiffness and safety. The new twelvecylinder with 6.5 liters’ displacement and 515 kW / 700 hp brings together the ultimate in high-revving pleasure with astonishing low-end torque. Thanks to a dry weight of only 1,575 kilograms (3,472 lb), which is extremely low for this class of vehicle, the weightto-power ratio stands at only 2.25 kilograms per hp (4.96 lb/hp). Even the fantastic 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration figure of just 2.9 seconds and the top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) do not fully describe the Aventador’s extreme performance. And yet, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are down by around 20 percent compared with its predecessor, despite the considerable increase in power (+8%). The ISR transmission is unique among road-going vehicles, guaranteeing the fastest shifting time (only 50 milliseconds) and a highly emotional shift feel, while the lightweight chassis with pushrod suspension delivers absolute handling precision and competition-level performance. The expressivelydesigned interior offers hi-tech features ranging from the TFT cockpit display with Drive Select Mode system. The Aventador will be built to the very highest quality standards in an all-new production facility in Sant’Agata Bolognese. “With the Aventador LP 700-4, the future of the super sports car is now part of the present. Its exceptional package of innovative technologies is unique, its performance simply overwhelming,” says Stephan Winkel 32 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
The most courageous of all bulls mann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
“The Aventador is a jump of two generations in terms of design and technology, it’s the result of an entirely new project, but at the same time it’s a direct and consistent continuation of Lamborghini’s brand values. It is extreme in its design and its performance, uncompromising in its standards and technology, and unmistakably Italian in its style and perfection. Overall, the dynamics and technical excellence of the Aventador LP 700-4 makes it unrivalled in the worldwide super sports car arena.” According to its tradition, Lamborghini’s new flagship bears the name of a bull – naturally, a particularly courageous specimen from the world of the Spanish Corrida. Aventador was the name of a bull that entered into battle in October 1993 at the Saragossa Arena, earning the “Trofeo de la Peña La Madroñera” for its outstanding courage. For Lamborghini, design is always the beauty of aggressive power, the elegance of breathtaking dynamics. From the very first glance, the new Aventador is unmistakably a Lamborghini, clothed in the brand’s characteristic and distinctive design
LP 700-4
language – with its extremely powerful proportions, its exact lines and precise surfaces, and with taut muscularity in every one of its details. The designers in the Centro Stile Lamborghini have carefully developed this design language to give the Aventador a significant new edge. It is an avantgarde work of art, an incredibly dynamic sculpture, from the sharply honed front end through the extremely low roofline to the distinctive rear diffuser. Every line has a clear function, every form is dictated by its need for speed, yet the overall look is nothing less than spectacular and breathtaking. Truly impressive proportions come from an overall length of 4,78 meters (188.19 in.) matched with an impressive width of 2,26 meters (88.98 in.) including the exterior mirrors, and further accentuated by an extremely low height of just 1.136 mm (44.72 in.). It goes without saying that both doors of the carbon-fiber monocoque open upward – a feature that was first introduced in the now legendary Countach and then used for subsequent V12 models such as Diablo and Murciélago. However, the Aventador also evokes its immediate predecessor the Murciélago – electronically managed air intakes open depending on the outdoor temperature and the need for cooling air, ensuring maximum aerodynamic efficiency. And for those whishing to flaunt the heart of their Lamborghini, the optional transparent engine bonnet exhibits the twelve-cylinder engine like a technical work of art in a display
case. The Aventador’s spacious interior combines the fine exclusivity of premium materials and perfect Italian craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology and generous equipment. The red switch cover on the broad center tunnel encloses the start button used to awaken the twelve-cylinder. The interior is dominated by a nextgeneration dashboard – as in a modern airplane, the instruments are presented on a TFT-LCD screen using innovative display concepts. A second screen is dedicated to the standard-fit multimedia and navigation system. The new Lamborghini flagship has a full monocoque. The entire occupant cell, with tub and roof, is one single physical component. This ensures extreme rigidity and thus outstanding driving precision, as well as an extremely high level of passive safety for the driver and his passenger. The entire monocoque weighs only 147.5 kilograms (325.18 lb). The monocoque, together with the front and rear Aluminium frames, features an impressive combination of extreme torsional stiffness of 35,000 Newton meters per degree and weighs only 229.5 kilograms (505.9 lb). For the Aventador LP 700-4, the engineers in Lamborghini’s R&D Department have developed a completely new high-performance power unit – an extremely powerful and high-revving, but very compact power unit. At 235 kilograms (518 lb), it is also extremely lightweight. A V12 with 515 kW (700 hp) at 8,250 rpm sets a whole new benchmark, even in the world of super sports cars. The maximum torque output is 690 Newton meters (509 lb-ft) at 5,500 rpm. The extremely well-rounded torque curve, the bull-like pulling power in every situation, the spontaneous responsiveness and, last but not least, the finely modulated but always highly emotional acoustics are what make this engine a stunning power plant of the very highest order. Engineers at Lamborghini have created the perfect mate for the new twelve-cylinder engine with the highly innovative ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) transmission. The development objective was clearly formulated – to build not only the fastest robotized gearbox, but also to create the world’s most emotional gear shift. Compared with a dual-clutch transmission, not only is the ISR gearbox much lighter, it also has smaller dimensions than a conventional manual unit – both key elements in the field of lightweight engineering for super sports cars. continued... This kind of extreme power must be delivered reliably to the road. The driver of the Aventador LP 700-4 can depend fully on its permanent all-wheel drive – indicated by the 4 in the model designation. In the driveline, an electronically controlled Haldex coupling distributes the forces between front and rear. In a matter of milliseconds, this coupling adapts the force distribution to match the dynamic situation. A self-blocking rear differential together with a front differential electronically controlled by ESP make for even more dynamic handling. The Drive Select Mode System enables the driver to choose vehicle characteristics (engine, transmission, differential, steering and dynamic control) from three settings – Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track) – to suit his individual preferences.
A Lamborghini should always fit perfectly with the style and preferences of its owner. To this end, the range of individualization options is virtually inexhaustible. There is a selection of 13 production paint colors to choose from, three of which are highly sophisticated matt tones. A choice of two-tone interiors are offered with the “Sportivo” and “Elegante” versions, while a premium audio system and reversing camera are among the many technology options. And of course, the “Ad Personam” individualization program knows no limits when it comes to colors and materials. Customers will take delivery of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 in late summer 2011.
Lamborghini has equipped its new V12 super sports car with an innovative and highly sophisticated suspension concept. The pushrod spring and damper concept was inspired by Formula 1 and tuned perfectly to meet the needs of a high-performance road-going vehicle. Together with aluminum double wishbone suspension and a carbon-fiber ceramic brake system, this lightweight chassis represents a further aspect of the new flagship’s unique technology concept.

Maserati GranCabrio Sport After stunning the world with the GranCabrio at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Maserati will take its grand-touring convertible to a new level of performance and handling with the GranCabrio Sport. Visually, the GranCabrio Sport is characterized by a morepronounced dynamic look. This look begins at the GranCabrio’s distinctive nose with a black grille and a Trident with red accents. The headlights now have a black look with white sidemarks, while front corner splitters and the redesigned side skirts are body colored. The GranCabrio Sport also debuts a new body color for Maserati: Rosso Trionfale inspired by the red Italian national colors used on 1950s racing Maseratis – in 1957, Juan Manuel Fangio won his fifth F1 World Title at the wheel of a red Maserati 250F. Conceived to give the GranCabrio a harder-edged model to sit alongside the GranTurismo S and the Quattroporte Sport GTS, the GranCabrio Sport uses a more powerful and fuelefficient version of Maserati’s, all-alloy 4.7-litre V8, coupled with the ZF six-speed automatic transmission.
This naturally aspirated engine produces in this configuration 450 horsepower and a rich, thick torque curve. Maserati’s Friction Reduction Program has made the GranCabrio Sport’s engine more reactive to the driver’s most-nuanced inputs, while reaching a 6% reduction in fuel consumption. The six-speed transmission is equipped with the superfast MC Auto Shift software and has been developed for the GranCabrio Sport directly from the transmission in the Quattroporte Sport GTS. The MC Auto Shift provides optimized gearshift response resulting in an even-greater engagement. The handling has received attention, too, with an upgrade and revision of the Skyhook active-suspension system – now with a sportier tuning - and the adoption of grooved and drilled dual-cast brake discs. What does all this refinement mean? That it is comfortable, well appointed, civilized (when you need it to be) and has the ability to promise more than just good looks…

How does a person who is new to town sell so much real estate? Mike Lombardo explains that hard work is clearly an ingredient but so is a desire to help people. People have needed help throughout this housing collapse. Not only were people faced with the bust of the housing bubble but it brought unemployment particularly to those in the construction trades and related fields. The unemployment further weakened the demand for housing and prices continued to plummet. The Cape Coral/Fort Myers area became a kind of Ground Zero for the crashing housing sector. Homeowners watched as their equity disappeared and the value of their homes became less and less. “My heart really broke for people.” Every day I saw a different victim of the housing mess. There were young couples who had bought their first home only to find that it was now worth half of what they agreed to pay and without work they could no longer handle the mortgage payments. He describes people from all over the United States that bought second homes and vacation homes and then found that the recession and housing collapse caused them to have to sell their

Lombardo who sells all of southwest Florida from Punta Gorda to Naples says that the biggest reward is having someone phone to say, “Thanks.” Mike Lombardo employs 5 persons in his office helping buyers and sellers with listings and closing. He also has 4 persons who work exclusively with buyers. “My mom even came to work. She was a college professor who also owned a real estate company for many years until her retirement. She manages the day to day of the office and coordinates the personnel. She came to my office one day to help me organize paperwork and hasn’t missed a day in 4 years.”
Lombardo says he is so glad that he moved to southwest Florida. He says that he found a career that he loves in the midst of a crisis. He chuckles as he adds that he loves going to work each morning knowing that what he does helps people.

Green Racing Machine
There's a perception among some people that electric vehicles fall on the dull side of the automotive enthusiasm scale – which is certainly not the case with either the production Nissan LEAF or LEAF NISMO RC. The Nissan LEAF NISMO RC is designed and constructed as a real racing machine, starting with its full carbon fiber monocoque bodywork. The three-piece bodywork includes removable front and rear sections, fixed windows, LED headlights and taillights and driver-adjustable rear wing.
Like the production Nissan LEAF, the NISMO RC is powered by a lithium-ion battery composed of 48 compact modules and a high-response 80kW AC synchronous motor that generates 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. It can be charged up to 80 percent of its full capacity in 30 minutes using the quick charging port located inside the rear cowl. And unlike other competition vehicles, the NISMO RC has no tailpipe, no emission of CO2 or other greenhouse gases while being driven, and no exhaust sound. In preliminary testing the NISMO RC produces 0 to 62 mph acceleration in 6.85 seconds and a top speed of 93 miles per hour. It is projected to have a running time of around 20 minutes under racing conditions. Sounds like a Nissan is producing a serious racing machine, aimed at being the first on the starting grid. Panamera S Hybrid As you would expect from Porsche, the Panamera S Hybrid sets new standards in terms of performance as well as hybrid efficiencies. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds and has a top track speed of 167 mph. Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy of committing to build new cars that strive to deliver sportier performance with more fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Without sacrificing high-performance, luxury or comfort, The Porsche parallel full hybrid system also reduces consumption at high speeds thanks to its 'sailing' or coasting mode. When the driver lifts off the accelerator at normal highway cruising speeds, the gasoline engine is completely switched off and disengaged from the drive train by a decoupling clutch. This eliminates the combustion engine's drag forces and braking effect in the interest of lower resistance, fuel consumption and emissions. As soon as the driver presses the accelerator, to pass another vehicle for example, the gasoline engine smoothly starts within fractions of a second and engine rpms are increased to match the current vehicle speed. It does this seamlessly thanks to the Hybrid Manager, which also helps the Panamera S Hybrid accelerate dynamically in gears at higher speeds.
The Panamera S Hybrid employs a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that delivers 333 horsepower. It is supported by a 47-horsepower (34 kW) electric motor. Depending on driving conditions, either drive unit can operate independently or together to drive the rear wheels. The Panamera S Hybrid has an even higher level of standard equipment than the V8 Panamera S that includes Adaptive Air Suspension with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adaptive shock absorber system, Servotronic速 variable-assist power steering and a host of other features. This new model also features an innovative display that provides the driver with relevant information about the status of the vehicle's hybrid drive systems. The Panamera S Hybrid will go on sale later in 2011.

CLS63 AMG V8 Biturbo setting benchmarks
by Mai Yomioto
Being one of the few to have a first test drive in the new Mercedes Benz CLS63 AMG, was wonderful. With a new exciting design; a "lean back in your seat" performance and lots of improvements in efficiency. It wasn't much of a surprise as this is what Mercedes-Benz AMG is all about. The new CLS63 AMG has been much improved from the previous CLS55 AMG and CLS63 AMG which has been around since 2004. Visually, the CLS63 AMG impressed me with its new appearance and improved interior. The cohesiveness of the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension and the electronically controlled damping system, brings it all together of how I enjoyed the drive. The CLS63 AMG automatically adjusts the damping characteristics depending on your driving conditions and reduces the roll angle of the body, this worked well on RT595 even as I left the suspension mode on "Comfort" most of the time. The CLS63 AMG is a four-door coupe equipped with the newly developed AMG V8 biturbo engine, featuring 550 hp and 590 lb-ft. of torque (with AMG Performance package), as well as the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. Without the AMG package you receive 518 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Of course I had the AMG package. The major difference between both power units is the increase in the maximum charge-air pressure from the turbos. 52 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
Question about acceleration? How does 0-60 in 4.3 seconds sound? A limited top speed of 155 mph, and you can get there real quick! Fast would be the wrong word, more like quick fast with real comfortable between that. The vehicle's estimated fuel economy of 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway is an improvement over the previous model. This is no small feat; remember this is a 5.5 liter twin turbo that will take on all comers and still get you and your guest to the opera house in comfort; without even a wiggle in your outfit. Thanks to sport seats covered in nappa leather and a lightning-fast electronically controlled damping system. Heading back with a feeling of confience, I parked the CLS63 AMG and stepped out the car overhearing someone say, "Sexy!", I replied, "Thank You"... she answered back, "Not you, the car". The 2012 CLS63 AMG is available this summer.

An ode to flip flops
T
he truth is many of us flip flop wearing Southwest Floridians could not wait for this cold weather to be over with so that we may once again unite with our flip flops. Not many of us can do without our flip flops. I have seen some dedicated flip flop wearers prancing around town during fifty degree weather…you guessed it, wearing their flip flops. I am positive that I did not own a pair of flip flops up north, but no doubt when I got to Southwest Florida it became second nature and something I could not live without. Of course my collection of flip flops grew as I had to have them in every color. Why not? They are fun, convenient and comfortable. Besides women may need several as you may need to sport a silver and embellished flip flop for going out on a date night. There is a pair for shopping at the mall. Another pair you keep in your car that you slip on after work to drive home in. Don’t forget the pair you leave under your desk at work just in case those shoes you just bought felt like two sizes smaller at the end of the day. Oh, how about that pair you use when you are doing chores around the house. And of course the pair you bought for your husband that matches the ones you usually wear to the mall. Oh Flip Flops, O Flip Flops I cannot live without thee_ cause you make me feel so carefree.

Heartland Gardens; Community Gardening At Its Finest
Heartland Gardens, located off of Old McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myer’s sunny district, is one of the only community gardens housed in the area. The garden, which began rooting in October of 2010 hosts locally and organically produce and vegetation. Heartland Gardens is a charitable and educational notfor-profit corporation developed by Bernard Pino and Andrea Guerrero. Both founders have resided in Lee county and have a strong devotion to Florida biology and landscaping. The garden’s primary resource is the raised labyrinth that contains a multitude of separate beds. These beds are used as community and food bank plots. The labyrinth is also where interactive classes and workshops for community take place. Classes and workshops

are offered to people of all ages. Guerrero pays special attention to programs geared toward the development and education of young adults. The organization’s mission is to educate the public on the benefits of local, organically grown food and provide people with the tools to achieve nutritional wellness and self-sustainability through the creation of food producing gardens. Both Guerrero and Pino hope to expand the organization to educate the public on food preservation and food preparation. In addition, owners hope to benefit the community by developing 500 community gardens. Both Guerrero and Pino are exceptionally ambitious about this alternative to food consumption and waste. If you are interested in getting involved, the garden encourages membership! Feel free to contact Guerrero or Pino at (239) 689-4249.

Bring on the
Power By Scott Black
A passion for performance. A champion. An American success story. These are among the descriptions earned by Carroll Shelby. He’s an icon that embodies the ingenuity, tenacity and grit needed to win in business, competition and philanthropy. The Shelby name is synonymous with performance. It’s a part of the man’s DNA, which was molded and shaped during years of competition. His vision of the automobile changed the rules for automotive performance forever. Today, Carroll Shelby and the companies he founded are a driving force for products and industries worldwide As Carroll Shelby continued with yet another milestone of a 800 horsepower Shelby GT500 Super Snake to be the 62 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
most powerful American muscle car introduced at the New York International Auto Show. In addition to the Super Snake, Shelby American will also display the limited edition 2012 Shelby GT350 coupe and convertible. “Shelby American has a rich history at the New York International Auto Show,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American Inc. “The very first Shelby car was introduced here in 1962, as well as the 1968 and 2008 Shelby GT500KR and the 2006 Shelby Hertz GT-H. This year, we’re returning with one of the most powerful and important Shelbys ever built.” Born on the drag strip and road course of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Shelby American and its partner Ford Racing, created an aggressive suspension and engine package that turns the Ford Shelby GT500 into a world class supercar. Even more power is available for the 2012 model year. There will be a limited production of Super Snakes available to customers starting May 1, 2011. “With more horsepower, the 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake is a strong performer both on the road and the track,” noted Gary Patterson, vice president of operations at Shelby American. “This Super Snake will deliver the driving experience that enthusiasts expect from the Shelby brand.” The new Super Snake post title package is one of the very few vehicles that generates up to 800 horsepower on pump gas. Not only is the high performance vehicle legal in 50 states, the unique, limited production supercar allows Shelby fans the opportunity to experience the power of one of America’s legendary muscle cars for under $100,000; this includes the Shelby Super Snake package and the GT500 base vehicle. Customers can build their dream Shelby Super Snake online with Shelby American’s new “Build-One” car building program at http://shelbyamerican.com/buildhome.asp.
