We look forward to form strategic partnership to strengthen and take the company to newer heights. Don’t be surprised if we announce something within this year. Southwest Florida is without a doubt the best place out there; not only for the climate and location, but it’s people and we will keep building on this most important resource. Focus Magazine, also looks forward to break the boundaries and explore more of what’s out there. We take pride in exploring new paths and creating innovative ways to communicate your message, which no one has created before – thus pushing Focus Magazine to its max. This year too, we will continue leading this space and introduce some exciting new services in the coming months, becoming more than just the average publication.
We didn’t want to just create a publication that enabled readers to not only engage in local events. We really wanted our readers to have a good time by being engaged and have it be fun enough that they can use all aspects of technology by initializing the magazine and still engage their friends and family. Once we decided to move forward with the concept, we knew we wanted it to be more than just another magazine. We had many debates on how we would organize, layout and provide the several areas of delivery. After much research (asking local residents), we found that people wanted a publication that can be easy to read and be available thought several mediums. What did business want? The same, in a cost effective way that a company can communicate information by using the same mediums. That was the beginning of Focus Magazine of SWFL mindset. As it turned out, we were fortunate that readers did immediately recognize the value of Focus Magazine. Like it always has been, our focus will be on you – as Florida’s most important resource. Your input has been integral part of our strategy and we will continue to take your suggestions. Guess this sums up our plans for this year; wishing everyone a joyous and Happy New Year. amborghini V12 – that means a long and glorious story. According to the history books, Ferruccio Lamborghini established a car company in the early sixties because he wanted to better the products on offer at the time from the competition, with the best possible technology and quality. The prototype for all later Lamborghini super sports cars was the 350 GTV study presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1963. It featured an allnew aluminum twelve-cylinder developed from scratch by engine designer Giotto Bizzarini and boasted performance figures that were nothing short of breathtaking by the standards of the time. The 12-cylinder V-engine with 60 degree cylinder bank angle, four overhead camshafts (at a time when single camshafts were still the norm), a six bbl carburetor and dry-sump lubrication, generated 360 hp at 8,000 rpm from a displacement of 3,497 cm3 that would take the concept car to a top speed of 280 km/h. The 350 GT series production version with conventional lubrication, launched the following year, produced 320 hp at 7,000 rpm from a displacement of 3,464 cm3. It was exactly this engine that captured the imagination of show-goers at the 1966 Geneva Auto 12 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
Salon in the Lamborghini Miura. Although its main features were already familiar from the 400 GT, this time the four-liter 60° twelve-cylinder was mounted transversely behind the cockpit, with transmission and differential in a single unit fixed directly to the frame. The 320 hp made the series production Miura that followed the fastest production car of its time with a stated top speed of more than 280 km/h – and, with that, the first true super sports car. This engine was further developed over the years, with several iterations featuring in the Miura S (370 hp at 7,000 rpm, 285 km/h) and Miura SV (385 hp, 300 km/h). In the Miura Jota, a one-off made for racing, the V12 generated 440 hp at 8,500 rpm. However, applications for the fourliter were not limited to the mid-engine Miura. In the front-engine Islero, introduced in 1968, and in the 400 GT Jarama, it produced 350 hp, while in the futuristic Espada the figure was 325 hp (later also 350 hp). In 1974, the Espada also saw an automatic transmission offered for the first time. The generational shift from the Miura to the new LP400 Countach took place in the early seventies. 1971 brought the prototype with a breathtaking, edgy form, the genes of which would ultimately
re-emerge forty years later in present-day Lamborghini super sports cars. Marcello Gandini’s design was a fitting outfit for a five-liter version of the V12. However, this engine was dropped from the series production model in 1973 in favor of a further evolution of the four-liter unit. In the 1973 Countach – still without the “wing” or spoiler of the eighties – it was longitudinally mounted behind the driver, where it generated 375 hp at an impressive 8,000 rpm and reached a top speed of 300 km/h. The years that followed saw the Countach engine undergo a series of evolutionary developments, although still based on the familiar cornerstones of the first V12 unit. It was in 1985 that the Countach Quattrovalvole took displacement over the five-liter mark for the first time (5,167 cm3) and – as the name implies – featured a four-valve cylinder head. Output was an impressive 455 hp at 7,000 rpm.
In 1986, the five-liter V12 was presented with a completely new application – the Lamborghini LM002 may also have had the 450 hp engine mounted up front, but the 2.7 ton automobile was the first and only SUV produced by the brand, a four-door all-terrain vehicle. The late eighties saw the amazingly long career of the Countach near its end with the Countach Anniversario. The Diablo followed as its rightful heir, clad in a distinctly nineties outfit. By 1990, the V12 had grown to almost six liters and produced 492 hp. One year later, the Diablo VT was the brand’s first
four-wheel drive sports car. Over the next few years, output grew steadily to 520 hp (1993 Diablo SE). The Diablo GT with 575 hp and the radical GTR with 590 hp both appeared in 1999. The Diablo 6.0 was the first model to feature the V12 with displacement expanded to six liters, its output ultimately reaching 550 hp. The Murciélago was launched in 2001 as the first Lamborghini of the new era. It boasted a new 6.2 liter alloy V12 with a crankshaft running on seven bearings and dry-sump lubrication. It generated 580 hp at 7,500 rpm and took the super sports car weighing just 1,650 kilograms to a top speed of 330 km/h. The maximum torque of 650 Nm was reached at just 5,400 rpm. At the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini unveiled the Murciélago LP 640, which produces 640 hp from the V12 unit that had been expanded to 6,496 cm3. In the strictly limited Lamborghini Reventón, the twelvecylinder that is the very heart of the brand generated 650 hp. The grand finale came with the Murciélago LP 670-4 Superveloce with its 670 hp. However, 2011 will mark the start of a new chapter in this glorious story.

Art walk Creativity Makes a Splash in Downtown Fort Myers! Downtown Fort Myers is home to many unique art galleries that host art of all genres. Every first Friday of the month, galleries invite the general public in to view the opening of new exhibits. Each Friday, the public can mix and mingle with other art lovers from 6pm-10pm. Art Walk has been a well-celebrated event for over two years now. During the month of October, the festival shared its second birthday with over twenty-two art venues. Many new exhibits can be viewed in well-known galleries such as Daas Gallery, Arts for Act, HOWL tattoo and gallery, Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center, and the Art League of Florida. Following this terrific event, Fort Myers has recently begun an art fair that follows this event on Saturday. If crafts, trendy jewelry, pottery, and funky photos entices you, this event which takes place in Patio De Leon from 11am-4:30 pm is a great time!

24th Annual Sand sculpting Championship

What happens when minds come together to showcase Master Sculptors from around the world? Well the 24thAnnual American Sandsculpting Championship on Fort Myers Beach. Master Scupltors like Sandy Feet, Amazin’ Walter, Carl Jara, Dan Belcher, Kirk Rademaker and much more… 17 Master Scupltors use several tons of sand and make works of ART! Ft Myers Beach has long been a popular location for events in Lee County and of course the 24th Annual Sand sculpting Championship was one such event; with food and entertainment from supporters, vendors and volunteers. This event has been running for 24 years and is part of the World Championship, today’s winner will head off to Washington to continue on for World Championship. This event is not only open to the pros, but anyone or group that wishes to learn this fine art. The promoters have sand, equipment and instructors, on hand, ready to help. The students from Edison State College Art department were there building a sand sculptor with the guidance of Professor Dina Doll Kelm, Bill Knight and Andy Hancock, which are also Master Sculptors.

With Andrew Cochrane, Bonnie Roberts, Katie Corning and so many others involved makes Ft Myers Beach more than an enjoyable experience. You cannot help but say, “WOW!” when viewing all the detail and work of the sculptors. With Bill Knight and Andy Hancock instructing vistors on the techniques of building your own sand sculptor it adds to this events success, as everyone puts in a hand for making this an eye opening event. With over 260 volunteers and almost 100 vendors, there was something for everyone from sausage to imported Cheese and authentic French baguette.
Everyone was taking in some of the artistic nature of several pieces, like “Fishnets” by Kirk Rademaker, “Divine Discontent” ; an organic creation by Rusty Croft, a Disney classic, “Beauty and the Beast” by Karen Fralich, and of course a sand castle, “There’s magic in the Sand” by Amazin’ Walter. The detail and work these masters put in is truly amazing. This event was also open to anyone that wished to get involved as I had the honor of meeting some of the future Sand Sculpting Masters, like 7 year old Brayden Bolduc and his creation of “Arch-i-Tech”. Brayden comes from a family line of sand sculptors like his Mom Amanda and his Grandmother Cathy Thompson. Each Master and Jr Master have their own style and unique perspective along with imagination. It made one thing clear that they all did, the same, create jaw dropping sculptors. There were many winners in this year’s event, Brayden Bolduc and others. I will only list the ones from the Masters Division and People’s Choice. Next year come out and get amazed yourself.

HOOP FIT USA specializes in teaching (hula) Hoop Dance and Hoop Fitness. We have classes for inexperienced (people who have never hooped before) to advanced levels of hoop dance. We also provide Mommy & Me/Daddy & me hoop classes as well as family workshops, seniors only (ages 55 and over), children’s workshops and so on. We like to promote hoop dance as an art form; encouraging the students to use their own creativity as they progress in the classes. We also have performances and have volunteered our services for charity events. We are often found out and about providing family entertainment at street fairs and music festivals. We are available for studios, gyms, fitness facilities, country clubs etc. to contact us to come and teach classes and workshops for them; either private for their members only or open to the public. Our students do not have to buy a hoop to take a class; we provide hoops for each and every workshop so participants don’t have to worry about having the right kind of hoop and they don’t have to worry about buying anything. We do sell custom made adult sized fitness hoops for individuals that would like to have their own and we have hand made fitness wear as well, but the main focus of Hoop Fit USA is to share the benefits of hooping as a fun and creative form of exercise that can be shared by all age groups and all levels of fitness. Real estate: Some of you may like what I’m about to say, others will of course dislike what I’m saying. This short article is about buying real estate, plain and simple in today’s market. I also don’t claim to be a Donald Trump either. With that said, I can say good luck to anyone that enters this field. As lots of people and businesses have lost more than their shirts within this high profit field. So take what I’m telling you with a grain of salt and remember to do your research. As everyone’s situation and market area is different. So you want to buy property be it land, homes or commercial property. First thing you will need is cash, doesn’t matter where it comes from be it friends, family, loan or another investor. Second is a plan to get in and out, unless you plan on keeping the property for a period of time. About 70% of investors keep their properties, which I recommend to most people that ask me about property. Third and final part a support group, this will include people who are in the business which will include a builder/contractor, real estate broker and a good seasoned handyman. I wouldn’t exclude friends that are also building a business in this field as well. They can be a great resource! Once that is done, let’s look at how you plan to buy the property. Will you pay cash or finance? If you pay all cash that is good, but you just tied up your money into maybe one or several properties. It does get rid of the monthly payments, and it will allow you better terms when it comes to price. Plus it will cost you lest than a hard money loan. Speaking of loans they are up front closing cost and of course the interest rate you may get from a bank, friend or hard money lender. You now have the cash and/or financing setup. Next determine what your goal for the property is. Let’s say we wish to flip it. In simple terms resell the property within a 30-180 day period. And yes this can be done even in this current market (2010). In order to complete this you MUST buy it right. What do I mean by, “buying it right”. Whatever area you live in you must purchase for much 30 FOCUS of SWFL 2011

less than the current market value. No matter what and agent tells you, even worst if they come up with the 10% rule. You know what I mean when they say if you make 10% on this you are doing well; that is BS. As and agent will make more than you in any given transaction without the trouble or risk. Did you not forget the cost for purchase, fix/upgrade and holding? Does the 10% rule work? Yes, only if you spend little (almost nothing out of pocket, less than .3%) and sell quickly. Let’s get back to the Flip. I will give you two true examples: single family home in Atlanta, Bank owned built in 2006, 3/2.5/2, 2500sqft UA (under air) bank asking 92K offered 38k and closed at 42K the deal taken almost 3 months to close. This was cash as we lined up several buyers for the home. The property was sold for 120K within 60 days to homeowner under FHA loan. No 10% rule here! Example two – did his with two homes. Single family property in New Orleans, Bank owned, built in 88 and 76, both around 1700 sqft, 2 story, 3/2. Bank did not have a price, offer accepted at $11K and $9K. Put in additional $12K-15K each into both homes and sold for $72k each under FHA loan. What do you see that I did with the above? And exit plan was first put in place as we lined up a buyer. You must connect with local people in the area and local government as they are the best resource. That is the only way to flip a property. If you buy and then sit back and wait, you’re looking for a hard time. More so if it is on someone else’s dime! Don’t like Flipping property, and would rather buy and hold, maybe rent. This works with several benefits and a few pit falls. The pit fall is what is happening in the market now if you purchased during 2005-07, as prices fall so does any return on money. Benefit is tax breaks, income and growth. The principal is the same as above. Find someone who will be moving into the property, get a management person/team and set aside 5% in an ac-
count which gains the best possible return and allows you to withdrawal when needed. How do you get this number? It is 5% of the purchase price divided by 12 months. You still have to purchase the property RIGHT, how do you do that. Don’t fall in love with it! This is business plain and simple; unless you plan to move into it at a later date. You first must keep your word (commitment) and not waste anyone’s time. Second have your money ready, be it cash or financing. Last thing a seller wants to hear is it could take 30 days or more to close. Last but most important… put in a solid low offer and close within a week or two days from acceptance. With this only put down $50-100 dollars. I did not make a mistake $50-100 dollars. Why hold up large sums of cash on an offer. If they accept and sign then you can comment the balance of your down payment and proceed to close. This works as a homeowner purchase or investor. If someone tells you otherwise, walk! If and agent informs you they will not present your offer, because it is too low, find another agent. Know the rental rate in your area, take off 20-40% and purchase property based on that. Example: property in Florida, bank owned previous loan amount was $1.8M with a $275K second, 4/5/3, 2004, 3800+ sqft UA. Market value at time was $595k, purchased for $225k. Put in 25K in upgrades and full design suite (furniture, etc.). Set the seasonal rent at $5500.00 per month. The property is only vacant 5 months, with a total net income of $18945
after expenses for management, taxes, insurance, etc. Don’t forget I have also set aside 7% a year in an interest bearing account, which is an included expense. I increased this due to the home being more upscale rental rather than the 5% explained earlier. How did I come to that number? Look at this example: 3/2/2, 2000 sqft, purchased for $35k from bank. The rental rate in the area dropped to $750 a month. Let’s say I got a hard money loan at the rate of 10.5% for three years with a balloon payment. Down payment of 30% = $10500 (they only give 60% of the loan) payments each month would be 224.11 each month, include management fee, insurance, maintenance (2%) and taxes at $300 dollars. Gives you a complete payment of $524.11, you can set your rental rate at $750 or $725; which would give you a cash flow of a little over 200 a month. No big math in this one. But remember as I state earlier, you must buy the property right at a much below market value. So what is the current value of the property $90-$110K. You now have the option to do one of several steps, do a lease option to purchase, sell it for 90k walk away with 55k after loan and all cost are paid. Keep the property and have it free and clear in less than 10 years. I can give more examples, but in today’s market it is all about BUYING RIGHT and knowing your area. True investors don’t make 10%, they have returns of 50-400% sometimes more!
Let me leave you with this: 1. Cash is KING! 2. You can’t buy everything 3. Learn to walk away from an offer 4. Protect your money and your partner’s money- always!

FM local music and have, on occasion, performed in them. One of my greatest pleasures as an entertainer is having a positive connection with the audience. As a LIVE music performer, I study the audience reaction to help me formulate a sequence of the most appropriate songs for a particular event or occasion. And, I have learned that no show goes as planed so it is important for a LIVE music performer to be flexible. Over the years I have learned lists of tunes that seem to always work well with different audiences in this area. Audience feedback is important... toe tapping, finger snapping, lip singing and dancing are great feedback indicators for performers to take note of and I think I’ve done a good job over the years. Another good indicator to a music performer is wether or not there is a dance floor. My approach has been, If there is a dance floor... play music people can dance to. If there is no dance floor, and people start dancing... keep doing what you are doing.

I hope to write about LIVE local music entertainment, the venues that feature LIVE local music and last, but not least, the people who attend LIVE local music events for FOCUS Magazine for a while. I have a rare and interesting perspective as a writer on the subject of LIVE local music entertainment as I am also one of the busiest entertainers in SWFL. Performing around 200 times every year I am the band leader for a popular working band. I also sing and play guitar as a soloist at some of the finest establishments in the area and I have written about many of the wonderful people I have meet during my career. Over the years I have had the pleasure of interviewing and in some cases performing with some of the best musicians in our area. I have written about various venues that support LIVE 32 FOCUS of SWFL 2011
Over the years I have become a fan of some of the people who regularly come out to dance at many of my public performances. Two such people are Fritz and Carmella Rath of Syracuse, NY. The couple spends seven months a year in SWFL and much of that time they are dancing. They have been splitting their time between NY and SWFL for 19 years. And, over the years I have seen them countless times dancing at my shows and I know I’m not the only act they follow. Most of my contemporaries and competitors have meet the Raths. There are a lot of different places in the area where they enjoy dancing and I caught up with them at a Downtown Naples hot spot one evening and watched them win First Prize in a dance contest which included a Caribbean cruise. While judges looked on, some of the area’s hottest dance couples strutted their stuff but in the end it was the fancy footwork and high flying moves of the Raths that got the judge’s and crowd’s attention. Fritz tosses and lifts Carmella into the air and catches her to the delight of crowds all over SWFL and I couldn’t resist asking them if I could get an official interview. A few days later I meet Fritz and Carmella at their Naples home and over brunch I learned Carmella was 16 years old when she met 19 year old farm boy Fritz Rath in a soda shop with a juke box in Fulton, NY. “He only slow danced back then.” said Carmella, the extrovert of the pair. “I taught him how to dance in the basement of my parents house.” she added. I asked them to describe their dance style and
Carmella said “It’s a mix of a few steps we made up, The Twist, Jitterbug and Swing Dancing.” Their favorite places to dance are “Where there are people... We like dancing outdoors most.” said Carmella. I also discovered the couple enjoys walking, biking and “swimming to music.” I learned Fritz is a man of few words but a man of action. “Fritz was always athletic” said Carmella. As if all the dancing, swimming, walking and biking wasn’t enough, I found out Fritz finds time to play basketball three times a week. The thing you notice right away when watching the Raths dance is the amount of energy they expend. Hopping, jumping, twisting and twirling not for one or two songs... they will dance to most of the songs during one of my shows which are usually three hours or more then they’ll go to another place to dance later the same evening. They attribute their energy from plenty of exercise, heathy food and taking vitamins and supplements. I have seen them show kids a thing or two on the dance floor, I have seen youngsters try to imitate the Raths and I have heard louder applause for their dancing than for my singing... AT MY GIG! Fortunately for me they en-
joy the same music I enjoy performing most... early roots Rock and Roll from founding artists like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Fats Domino, Bill Haley, etc... and swing tunes from artists like Louie Prima and Duke Ellington. When I’m on stage performing and see them coming to the dance floor it always lifts my spirits a little higher and I seem to perform better. I feel I owe it to them and anyone else who dances to do the best job I can do. If they are going to pay me the compliment of dancing to my music then I’m going to give it all I’ve got. Sometimes I try to extend a song or speed up the tempo to get a reaction from the two dancers but they never seem to be phased by my antics. I’m glad to have them as my friends and I hope to perform for them for many more years. They never seem to get tired... They have more energy than most people in their twenties. Workout to Get Your Engines Going Multiplanar Movements are exercises that ensure you are moving in all dimensions (Forward and Back, Side to Side, and Rotation). Why do you want to do this? By choosing exercises that move your body in all directions you will be increasing your fat loss results exponentially. Let’s say you wanted to train your legs and butt. A typical Leg Press machine would just have you working in the Forward and Back direction. But what if you chose to do a Squat instead? Here’s how you could hit all directions: 1. Basic Squat – Feet shoulder width apart and sit back as if you were going to sit on a bench and then use your legs and butt to come back up to a standing position. (Forward and Back) 2. Side Squat – Perform the same squatting movement but now step out to the side, alternating left and right, with each squat. (Side to Side) 3. Sumo Walk Squat – Go down into a squat position and walk forward and back like a sumo wrestler would. (Rotation) As you can see, this will take A LOT more muscles than just a plain old leg press and give you much, much better results. Activity NEWS Moblie Rock Climbing! If you have been driving around town and seen a guy hauling a 25 foot portable rock climbing tower, then you have just seen Mike Clark. Mike’s passions is Mobile Rock Climbing... to name a few! Mike Clark has a story that is incomparable to none. Mike Clark started his mobile rocking climbing business in 2002 after quitting his job of ten years. After getting a bit burnt out with his schedule, Mike thought it would be great to get away for a couple of days near the Disney area in Orlando. Mike wanted to see what else was in the area other than Disney and saw rock climbing as a fun activity, so he went online and found a rock climbing gym.
Just before he made his reservation, he saw a link that said, “Click here.” He said he usually is apprehensive about such links but this time he clicked on to it. In his own words Mike said, “there popped up this photo of this portable rock climbing tower over the top of the image was written ‘income possibilities’. I had never heard nor ever saw a portable rock climbing wall before but as soon as I saw that picture with the phrase income possibilities it was like getting hit by a ton of bricks. I said I don’t care how much that thing cost, I’m going to buy that rock climbing wall.” And he did!

Create a savings plan
Without a savings plan you won’t reach the goals you’d like to achieve. “Saviing Twenty dollars a month is not going to help you get there,” You need to create a savings plan with 20 percent of your income. In fact, it will help to create a 24 percent solution. This means, you save 20 percent of your income and only spend 4 percent of your invested assets. Besides a savings plan you need an emergency fund. “What if you need a new refrigerator because yours can’t be fixed? Have an emergency fund so you don’t need to put the purchase on your credit card.”

A three- to six-month emergency fund should be established. In addition, you create a savings plan in either an IRA, 401(k), Roth IRA or even a CD.
Don’t spend more than you make
When you’re in debt, it is very difficult to get out of debt. People who spend too much are in danger of going into bankruptcy. To help people avoid this problem, one of the steps that the Financial Planning Association takes, is to work with www. Americasaves.com. This national organization, comprised of more than 1,000 nonprofit, government and corporate groups, encourages individuals and families to become savers rather than spenders to build personal wealth.

Don’t keep up with the Joneses
Look around you; there are so many enticing items to buy. Your neighbors have them. So do some of the people where you work. You don’t want to look cheap. You deserve the American dream. Buy things for you and not because these items impress your neighbor or friends. Don’t give into your children who say, ‘I have to have it because everyone is wearing it.’ If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.”

Limit the amount of debt on credit cards
Never use more than 50 percent of your available credit line on each credit card you have. For example, if you have a credit card with a $6,000 credit limit, don’t use more than $3,000. Limit the number of credit cards you use, no one should have more than two main credit cards. If you use your credit card every time you make a purchase, you will have a hard time paying your regular monthly bills. And you don’t want to be paying only the minimum on your credit cards -- you really need to be paying them off every month. Even people with good credit have discovered that the credit card companies have been raising their interest rates. Credit card companies are in business to make money, and they hope you charge a lot!

By paying your bills every month, you will keep your good credit rating. In addition, you won’t have to pay late fees. In today’s world, with online banking available to most people, there is not much excuse for being late on your bills.

There are many sad stories of people who have taken their retirement money and put it into oil, shady business ventures, pyramid schemes and other unsavory get-rich-quick plans. Most of the wealthy people in the world didn’t get that way with get-rich-quick schemes. If it’s too good to be true, it usually is.“There is never an opportunity that has to be taken in one to 10 days, If there is pressure to do it immediately, it’s a bad investment.”

Protect yourself against risk
There are numerous risks in this world, many of them financial. It’s important for people to have the right insurance, such as health, life and disability, to protect themselves and their families. In addition, they need car, home and even renters insurance. A new survey by Apartments.com indicates that 58 percent of their respondents do not have renters insurance. Identity theft protection is critical. We recommend that you lock your credit report,” and also get a photo ID on all your credit cards if your credit card companies offer the feature. “When something happens to you that you don’t have control over, insurance can be a blessing,”

Teach your children to handle money wisely
However, if you’re not handling money wisely, it’s hard to teach your children to do so. You have to set a good example.” Children as young as 8 should keep a log of where their money is being spent. For example, if you give your child a $10-a-week allowance, at the end of the week he or she should be able to tell you how the money was spent or if any of it was saved. “When you read about the history of very wealthy families like the Rockefellers of the world, they were all given accounting sheets when they were kids,” Children should have a bank account so you can teach them about bank statements. As an added incentive to get your children to save, “Tell them they have to pay for college. It will change their focus on what money is all about.”

Plan for retirement
Retirement may be so far on the horizon, it’s barely a speck. Or it could be so close that you figure there’s no point in even starting now. It doesn’t matter if you fit one of those categories or somewhere in between. Unless living in a cardboard box is your idea of a little bit of heaven, you absolutely have to plan for retirement. And not just for yourself. Children are not legally responsible for paying for elderly parents when the parents can’t pay for themselves, many adult children feel emotionally responsible. It is important to not only save for your retirement -- hopefully starting at a young age -- but to help guide older parents who may not be as financially knowledgeable in planning for their retirement.

Legally protect yourself and your family Whether you’re single or married, you should have a will or trust. Actually, these documents are not for your benefit but for the benefit of your heirs. If you don’t have a will or trust, it becomes a legal nightmare for them. It’s also important to have a living will and health care power of attorney. You should have written instructions regarding what happens at the end of your life. If you follow these guidelines, you should be able to create a plan that works for you. Now and into the future; remeber the only one that will take care of you is you. Without financial knowledge you will lose more than just money.

a child, cars played a big part of Rick’s life. Models, pedal cars and toys inspired him. His interest in cars was not purely economic, but as time passed he found a certain charm in those cars. He purchased, restored and sold many cars over the years. After collecting GM and Chevys for over 40 years he turned his passion into a shared interest for car lovers. Rick turned one of the largest retailer stores (Wal-Mart) into a car lover’s dream. With a world class collection of GM muscle cars and trucks in the nation, all residing under 99,000 square feet, displaying 80 years of cars ranging from 1954-1975 Corvette’s, 1964-1971 Chevelles, 1964-72 Oldsmobile 442’s and much, much more! - We all have dreams/ passions/goals that we were either born with or was inspired by something or someone at some point in our lives. Many dreams are buried. Someone once said that the richest place on earth is the cemetery, because their lies many unspoken and unfulfilled dreams. What is your dream? How did it come about? Why is it buried or undiscovered? Why haven’t you began to do something about it? Excuses:
I am too young or too old. I could never become or do that. I don’t have any support. I don’t know how to get started. No one will ever believe I can do this. People like me never make it. I was a victim of… That dream stuff is garbage… My parents struggled and I am going to struggle also… etc., etc My Answer: Life is not simple. Some people deny their dreams because of fear or someone telling them that they can never become what they want to be; so they eventually talk themselves out of their own passion/ dreams. Your objective is to become your own visionary; help yourself to unearth your dreams. If your dream was buried at the back of your mind or deep in your soul, bring your dream to the forefront of your mind and keep it there. Question? Have you ever spoken to someone who never accomplished their dreams and heard them say, “You know, I never wanted to become a ____________. I always liked the idea of doing _________. Think? Reflect on how that person sounded. Do you recall the regret in their voice? Don’t let that be you!!! Make sense of the following lines:

What is your dream? Just as our faces differ so do our dreams differ. Your dream is different from your sister/brother, parents, and friends. So do not try to be just like your friend, but pursue your own destiny. Pursue? What does this mean? Why do you need to pursue your dreams? That is right!!! Eventhough your dreams can be attainable, you still need to work at them. But this should be pleasurable, as you will learn to appreciate every challenge, disappointment and eventually accomplishments. Someone once said, “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.” How many of you are afraid of rejection? We all are at some point. But there is a flip side to rejection. Rejection can help you get better at a skill and help you format your ideas and revolutionize yourself in a better and effective way. Everyone had to go on interview at some point in their life and they were nervous. Teach yourself how to smile, relax, to prepare better notes, to use proper body language and better verbal skills. Get to the point where you welcomed an interview. If at any point you feel like a failure, and your are working hard as you think you can and nothing is happening…reformat your ideas and your approach to the problem. Do not begin to say all the negative things and take the easy way out. If it takes looking in the mirror and saying to yourself, “You are not a messed up kid like your family tells you.” Or, “I can do this…and I will do this.” Think about this: Michael Jordan was overlooked in basketball camp. Abe Lincoln tried numerous times to be president. Remember, failure does not define who you are. It is your willingness and effort that defines who you are. It is so easy to give up. It is so easy to tell yourselves that you could not do it anyway, after one, two or more failure’s. That is why you need to reprogram your brain to think positive about yourself. So what if people start saying, “He/She think she better.” Oh, yes you are better. Opportunities/Take a Chance In order to fulfill your dreams you have got to have guts. You have got to know how to walk up to someone and introduce yourself and be presentable:

Undo the damage done Many young people have a rough life these days. Things happen in life, but do not take the blame for bad situations that you were born into. Also, do not make excuses for them. I would encourage you to read positive books to retrain your mind to see life and your future in a more positive way. If you were told that you would never amount to anything, you need to stop listening to those words and replace them with, “If I work hard I can achieve greatness.” Many adults today are not aware of the damage they bring to their own children directly or indirectly. You will need to change your own thinking and move on with your life and heal the best way possible. Visualize You have got to eat, sleep, write, talk, read up about your dreams. Write down your short and or long term goals Keep this list at a location you will always see. Learn to ask questions. Read up on the subject. Appreciate knowledge and learn as much as your can. Consider volunteering in an area that may benefit your goal. Consider shadowing someone to help you envision this goal. Work on your people skills and learn how to speak and network. Know how to see good opportunities and make use of them.
Know your worth Do not let anyone or anything come between you and your dreams. This includes negative people, negative tendencies and a negative past. Know that you are priceless and that you are worth every bit of your dreams and success.
