Prague College, 2010

Basic Information This business plan is meant to inform, presenr and identify main ideas, problems, solutions, technical, financial and other aspects of the project as the whole. Main idea behind creating a presentational Installation was created during previous semesters during which cooperation between Prague College’s Computing and Interactive Media department was not just established but thrived and was waiting for an opportunity to show it’s skills and abilities to present mature ideas and concepts.
Idea to present Prague College on Český Tučňák (Czech Penguin, further just CzP) was created by Marie Silondi, artist and fashion designer who was together with Lucie Mareš successfuly presenting their unique “dog handbag” and won one of the awards for young designers. Currently, CzP is in it’s fifth year of existence. Recognized by most hip contemporary artists, designers and performers it creates a perfect incubator space for young talents.

Project Summary
Caption: First visit of a space for Northern Lights installation, La Fabrika, Komunardú 10, Praha Holešovice
As a leading Project Manager of the installation called Northern Lights - Polární Záře I am fully responsible for an overall presentation. Together with two other helping project managers - Yevgeniya Drovossekova and Pavel Belan I am creating a team of responsible leaders of the whole project. The team has a goal to help, mentor and coordinate creation of the content for the installation. The purpose of the installation is to present the current stage of cooperation between Interactive Media and Computing department. Currently students of these two departments are cooperatively working during Interactve Media Design and Authoring class time under teachers Stefano Cavagleto and Pascal Silondi. Well maintained and close cooperation between all involved people is the key to successful presentation of working prototypes. Communication must be straightforward and clear to maintain motivation inside team.

Project 2
Students gathered in the first group planned to create with a help of NXT Mindstorms Lego set a preprogrammed robot that would react on a persons input and with its holding brush drip a drop onto a water surface of a glass bowl. This would be accomplished with a creation of a mechanical robotic arm that could turn, hold a brush and dip it into a colour, after turned and dripped a colour drop into a certain segment which would contain a transparent (glass) bowl. This glass bowl would be placed on a enlightened surface of an overhead projector that would create a layer of constantly moving and mixing emulsion of water and colour. On the wall is present an analog projection of an overhead projector. On the top of that layer comes a wireframed image of an “Underground City” project’s tunnels. Simplified geometrical triangulation with it’s strict rules plays it’s game with an unexpected result of a dripping ink robot
Second group focuses on a larger area on the ground of space but also occupies the wall with another digital projection. Robot built with NXT Mindstorms Lego parts is autonomous and reacts on the detected surface colours. It’s movements and actions depend on it’s translation of an area of current location. Goal is to recreate a frozen land with a robotic penguin that would behave like it is in it’s “normal” environment, moving around in a certain area, fishing with it’s fishing rod and going home when close to it’s Iglu. Projection on the neighboring wall is occupied with an animation made in 3D software creating an overall atmosphere - cold, winter, ice and northern lights on the sky
Project 3 During several previous experiences I decided to go forward and install second version of “Multitouch table”. This time the interface was customized in a new Unity 3D project especially designed for this installation.
Sound Created by Yevgeniya, resembles a theme of a frozen land with a sounds of penguins. Was played in the whole space as a looped sequence.

Planning to present something publically brings a responsibility to produce something valuable and pleasing to interact with. That was a reason to invest more that normally planned and resulted in a fine scenographical production on the “stage”. No detailed profit/loss analysis was applied due to purely presentational purpose of this installation. There were no opportunities to raise money and it was not a priority too.

Location
Overall the space that was generously given to us for the whole 3 days for free of charge was quite immerse comparing to a spaces where we could work in before. Completely new building that belong to the complex of La Fabrika multifunctional space was just about to be finished when we had a chance to see it for the first time. Therefore it meant a lot of problems solving and adaptation process to be able to feel the space like it would be our “home” - frozen land. Organisation of the insallation was planned to be different from the beginning. Total 3 projects were to be presented and therefore two were planned to fill the main huge room and the third to fit into a smaller room that was accessible from the common corridor leading to a staircase. The final organisation of a space was that “Ink robot” and “Penguin robot” will be displayed in the main bigger room due to a corrensponding sizes of the neighboring walls that are better fitting for a projections. Second space, due to its smaller size is enough for just the multitouch table
