hen I told the editor of this paper that I would be gone for two months, I figured I’d be foot-loose and fancy-free with no worries about meeting a deadline for an article. However, it didn’t work out that way; she insisted on an article about my trip. So, what did go on during my two months in Germany? The simple answer is soccer. The World Cup took place in Brazil this summer, with the games stretching over four weeks. Thirtytwo countries worldwide took part and the USA was one of them.
