The White Light is universal, so if a spirit dawdles and their light goes out, they can find a funeral home and pass over by stepping into the light of someone else who has recently died. She also suggested everyone be on their best behavior at wakes and funerals, as she believes the deceased attend their own memorial services. They stand at the head of their caskets or to the left of their urn if they’ve been cremated to watch and listen to those who have come to see them off. Women tend to look at the flowers to see who sent which arrangement, and men like to count the number of cars in their funeral processions. Mary Ann’s reputation as a paranormal investigator has spread. She was a consultant to the CBS hit television show “Ghost Whisperer,” has appeared on numerous TV and radio news programs and spoken at countless lectures. She still lives and works primarily in the Cleveland area but has offered her abilities to those in need as far away as New Mexico, St. Lucia, Hollywood and Scotland. It took Nick Fagan, head of adult services at Middlefield Library, almost a year to secure her appearance and the Friends of the Library generously hosted the event. Mary Ann is unique in that she shows the human side of the paranormal; stories about ghosts told from the perspectives of the ghosts themselves

f I were in school and the teacher asked me to write about my summer vacation, I would have no problem this year. Our 2-week tour of Italy to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the day we met was filled with unforgettable memories. We wanted to see it all; especially the picturesque villages in Tuscany nestled in the vineyards and olive groves. High on our list were also the magnificent churches with their centuries-old frescoes, mosaics and paintings. A special bonus on our tour was the 33-year-old Naples-born tour guide Savio, who works half a year in the tourist industry and half a year as a chef, the first profession he learned. Evidence of the Italian love of eating rolled from Savio’s tongue as our bus driver Armando wove in and out of wild Italian traffic from Rome to Siena, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Assisi and Sorrento.
