PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENTS Chicken Program Update The purpose of this announcement is to update you about the changing market dynamics for chicken, and the exciting strategy and incremental value our Category team has been able to secure. As part of an in-depth strategic 6-month review and RFP in the chicken category, Foodbuy has established preferred supplier partnerships for chicken products with Maple Leaf Foods, Erie Meats, Sunrise Farms, and Olymel, effective February 1st, 2020. Each manufacturer’s portfolio was reviewed and while there were some industry-related inflationary pressures on price, the majority were offset by rebate improvements. As a result of Olymel’s strategic shift in industry pricing for chicken, the impact will be pricing increases as well as significant rebate reductions. Although Olymel is still a preferred vendor for a few SKUs, Compass is transitioning the majority of spend to the other vendors noted above. For Foodbuy Members, financial analysis indicates a significant increase in rebate revenue for preferred sub category manufacturers to migrate spend as well. For a list of skus click here. Please reach out to your Account Manager to explore the incremental impact on your business at your earliest convenience. Click here for a cheat sheet on which chicken SKUs you should be using.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Can I get you a water? Why do more than 60% of the Canadian households drink bottled water? And, who are these people? They come from every province and they span every age group. They’re on -the-go people who want to stay hydrated and they’re taking their bottled water along with them. We do our part by making sure their favorite brands are always where they want them. Premium, sparkling and enhanced waters are trending right now. A range of sizes is also important, as ensuring your ambient displays have a healthy mix of 1 L bottles will bring in incremental sales! Bottled water is one of the fastest growing sales categories in Canada, and will most likely become the largest retail beverage category in the next 10 years. Innovation continues to drive the category as water comes in various sizes and prices, and consumers appreciate the portability and selections. Consumers enjoy both water that is chilled and ambient, sparkling water should always be offered chilled. The consumer need for each water segment is different – can be driven by basic thirst or a meal enhancement which means

it is important to offer variety within the category across still, sparkling, flavors and sizes. Spa Water - DO NOT OFFER FREE WATER (Spa Water, Aqua Fresca, Bottle Filling Stations, etc) in locations where you sell bottled water. Offering free water to consumers will erode your sales and profitability. Premium Water - Consumers identify value in branded, premium priced water. Evian, ARTO LifeWTR, Perrier and Smartwater are some of the fastest growing. Regardless of business type or demographic, these brands should be made available for sale to guests to complement your overall water strategy. Bottle Water Free Accounts If you are a unit that is unable to sell plastic bottles of still water due to client request, please ensure you replace facings with sparkling and flavored water. Also ensure you have canned water beverages such as Bubly available. Water Compliance As a retail team we will be focusing on water over the coming months, ensuring all units are ordering water. If you have any questions please contact retail.growth@foodbuy.ca

MARKET & COMMODITY NEWS Compass Group joins WEConnnect Compass Group is now a corporate member of WEConnect International. WEConnect International educates women business owners on how to access new markets and grow their companies, and trains women business owners on how to sell to corporations. WEConnect breaks down the barriers that prevent women business owners from connecting to each other and to new market opportunities, including connections to local and multinational corporate buyers. Globally, there are approximately 224 million women entrepreneurs worldwide who participate in the ownership of nearly 35 percent of privately-owned firms in the formal economy. Women account for over $20 trillion in spending per year and are involved in over 80 percent of consumer purchasing decisions worldwide. The real drivers of the economy are women—as business leaders, employees, consumers and entrepreneurs. And yet, globally women-owned businesses earn less than 1 percent of the money spent on vendors by large corporations and governments.
