Program Announcements Cold Beverage Update: Preferred Retail and Non-Retail Water Products This month Foodbuy will be implementing a new preferred water product for our retail customers. Instead of purchasing Aquafina’s 500 ml product, Foodbuy is encouraging customers to move to the 591 ml size effective June 1, 2018. Aquafina’s 591 ml product still offers the same great tasting water but with a higher margin in comparison to the 500 ml product. As a reminder, Nestle Pure Life is the preferred water for non-retail outlets. Nestle Pure Life is only approved where products are not for resale, and is a lower cost option ideally suited for catering and giveaways. Kit Kat candy bars are the top selling chocolate bar in Canada right now, and Foodbuy customers are encouraged to capitalize on its popularity. In June, Nestle is offering a promotion to customers which could help increase sales of Kit Kat bars and other impulse purchases in your operation. Ensure that Kit Kats are present at all register and cash point areas in your unit, and Nestle will send you a case of Kit Kats to stock these areas. Customers are more likely to grab a Kit Kat as an impulse purchase if it is located in a convenient spot to check-out, and you could experience up to a 35% sales increase by having impulse purchases at the register. Program Announcements Nestle Professional Announces Improved Packaging Solution for Handmix Portfolio Beginning in June, Nestle Professional will now be offering an improved packaging solution on their handmix portfolio which will move from plastic jugs to a gable top format. Top performing Nestle handmix SKUs will transition to the new gable top format while low performing SKUs will be discontinued. Nestle has recommended similar products that can be substituted for those that are discontinued, so there should not be any disruption to your ordering process around these items. Find out which SKUs are transitioning and which will be discontinued in this letter from Nestle.

OBP Raw Bacon Prices Decrease By 7% This Month Following last month’s trend, OBP raw bacon prices will decrease another 7% for Foodbuy customers in June. Order bacon this month while prices are low, because market prices are expected to increase again next month as we move into the peak summer season.
Foodbuy Secures Improved Rebate on Jack Links Foodbuy is pleased to announce we have secured an improved rebate on our Jack Links program. Previously the rebate extended to Members was 7%. Effective June 1, 2018, the rebate extended to Members will be 10%. This rebate will allow our Members to create more savings within this category.

Market and Commodity News Chopped Romaine Lettuce Suspension Lifted in May In mid-April, Foodbuy communicated a QA Product Suspension on all bagged, chopped romaine lettuce due to an E-coli outbreak associated with the product. As of May 18, Foodbuy is pleased to inform its Members that the romaine product suspension has been lifted. Foodbuy Members can start ordering romaine lettuce again from their suppliers. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a statement concluding the matter and it is shown below. “CDC is updating its advice to consumers. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the last shipments of romaine lettuce from the Yuma growing region were harvested on April 16, 2018 and the harvest season is over. It is unlikely that any romaine lettuce from the Yuma growing region is still available in stores or restaurants due to its 21-day shelf life.� Foodbuy would like to thank our customers for your cooperation in this matter. Foodbuy will continue to provide updates and direction on this situation as it develops.
