A UNIQUE NUTRIENT

PACKAGE UNDERSTANDING BEEF It’s the quality of our food choices that count over time. A healthy diet is one that prioritizes whole, fresh foods: lots of fruits and vegetables, high fibre grains and lean, fresh proteins. We call these ‘foundational foods’. Healthy eating means choosing foundational foods most of the time. Discretionary, or treat foods, should be occasional.

Red meats, like beef, are nutritious and play an important role in a balanced diet. Beef offers a variety of essential nutrients that support good health. Beef is one of the best sources of high quality protein, iron, zinc and B vitamins. Canada’s Food Guide includes beef and other red meats as part of a healthy diet.1

Enjoyed at family tables globally, high-quality Canadian Beef is excellence without compromise.

Grain Fed for Outstanding Eating Quality Canada is one of the largest grain producers in the world. Feeding corn, barley and wheat grain contributes to wellmarbled, flavorful and tender Canadian beef with firm, whitecolored fat. Canada’s feeding practices enable more than 85% of cattle raised for beef production to be harvested at 2 years of age or less. A younger age at harvest enhances tenderness and overall eating quality. All beef whether grass or grain fed contributes significant amount of nutrients and the differences between the two nutritionally are small. The

DID YOU KNOW...

That when paired together, foods can actually produce greater health benefits for your body? We eat foods not nutrients. Real foods trump supplements. Paired together, protein-rich beef helps increase the iron absorbed from beans and other plant sources of iron by a whopping 150%. It’s food synergy in action known as The Meat Factor.3 Without the inclusion of meat in thier diets, vegetarians need almost 2X more iron than meat eaters.4
