Jack’s Magic Beans Notes This is the recipe we used today for the magic beans we cooked to enjoy after reading Jack and the Beanstalk. It is easiest to make these with a slow cooker, but if you don’t have one, and can be home for the day, you can just leave the beans on medium low in a large pot and stir periodically. Ingredients 1 pound white beans – navy or cannellini 1 quart (4 cups) vegetable broth A few cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed ½ to 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar Instructions Rinse the beans and soak them in water overnight. Be sure to cover them with at least 6 inches of water. They will expand a lot! Drain the beans and rinse well with cold water. Put the beans in your slow cooker with the broth and garlic. Cover, and set the slow cooker to low for 10 to 12 hours. Add salt and sugar to taste.
