Welcome to the NSW Facilities Unit In this first issue we introduce the new NSW Facilities Unit, the joint venture between Football NSW and Northern NSW Football. The Unit has a state-wide focus on improving facilities for all football clubs, associations and zones in NSW, providing leadership, advice and assistance on any matter relating to facilities development. This can be practical advice on grass field maintenance or lighting, helping you to secure funding, or assisting you in engaging with your Local, State or Federal government representatives. Based at Valentine Sports Park, the Unit is led by Ricardo Piccioni, Head of Communications, Facilities & Government Relations, assisted by Jas Virdee who’s recently taken on the role of Facilities Development Coordinator. They will be joined in due course by a third member of the team in the role of Government & Stakeholder Relations manager.

Rouse Hill Rams facilities pathway to equality, diversity & inclusion
One of the biggest challenges football clubs face is providing the right facilities to cater for everyone. Rouse Hill Rams Soccer Club is the fastest growing club in the Granville & District Soccer Football Association, particularly amongst women and athletes with special needs. They credit their success to a rich culture of inclusion and their first class facilities, despite ongoing issues with their Local Council. The Rams play at Hills Centenary Park in Rouse Hill, and are a great role model club that works incredibly hard to create a
diverse and inclusive football community, at all levels of the game, offering football for all levels from Under 6s to seniors, including Football4All. Established in 2006 the club is focused on junior development and offers programs to support and assist all players in order to improve. For more information, check out the club website
Community Building Partnership Scheme The NSW Community Building Partnership program supports the improvement of community infrastructure. The program offers grants across the State at an individual State Electorate level for community infrastructure projects. Grant funding of up to $200,000 is available for every NSW State Electorate.
It creates more vibrant and inclusive communities by supporting projects that encourage community participation, inclusion and cohesion.

An additional $100,000 is available for electorates with higher levels of social disadvantage as indicated by higher comparative unemployment rates. Grants will be open to local councils and incorporated notfor-profit bodies such as clubs.
Current opportunities for football funding There are a number of funding opportunities coming up as detailed below The better prepared your club, zone or association is, the greater the chance it stands of getting funding. You need to ensure you have clear plans and a brief for your development proposal, ideally have development consent where needed and have already discussed it with your Local Council and State MP.
Stronger Communities Fund With the amalgamation of many Local Councils, the NSW Government has announced a rare opportunity to apply for funding, which potentially will go towards projects such as the upgrades of club facilities, funding of sporting equipment, or providing tools and equipment to improve the delivery of community services. It’s called The Stronger Communities Fund and the new amalgamated councils will be allocated up to $15 million to spend on priority community initiatives. Details on the scheme are a little sketchy at this stage, but it seems that local community groups will be able to apply for community grants of up to $50,000. The new Council Administrators and Interim General Managers will be supervising this fund, and you should initially make contact with them to get further details. The local State MP will be part of the decision-making process in this program, so we advise you also contact your local representative. The Facilities Unit can help with this, so please get in touch if you need assistance. More details will follow on the football facilities website as soon as they are to hand.

Case Study: Banksia Tigers enjoying new facilities
St George Football Association’s Banksia Tigers are on a high thanks to the update of their facility at Gardiner Park. This YouTube clip made exclusively by Football NSW tells the story of the grassroots club’s push in getting better amenities for their home ground which was redeveloped by Rockdale City Council. It’s really very simple, investment in grassroots facilities can greatly increase the numbers of happy and healthy members across all our football communities. It can provide increased participation opportunities for young and old, male and female; generate physical and mental health benefits; support social cohesion and assist multi-cultural inclusion.

Case Study: Football’s the winner in Ryde There’s fantastic news for every football player, coach, referee and volunteer in Ryde. City of Ryde Council has signed off on a multi-million-dollar investment in three synthetic fields, to be built at ELS Hall and Christie Park. It’s a brilliant outcome for the sport and all local residents, with grassroots and elite footballers alike benefit-ting from the provision of world-class facilities within the next two years, including the establishment of a Football Centre of Excellence, featuring two full-size synthetic fields, at Christie Park, the home of Gladesville-Hornsby Football Association. City of Ryde Mayor, Councillor Jerome Laxale, acknowledged the Council’s commitment to ELS Hall and Christie Park and stated the decision was a long time coming for the sport “I am proud that one of our last acts as the City of Ryde was to

Warners Bay FC Receives Multimillion Dollar Upgrade Warners Bay Football Club is a fun, family orientated club determined to give every player, of all ages & ability the “Best Possible Football Experience”. Warners Bay teams participate in the u6 MiniRoos right through to the Elite Women’s Premier League teams that compete in the NNSW Football WPL. The Football Club’s home ground is located at John Street Oval, Warners Bay and has one of the largest junior participation rates in all of Northern NSW Football having almost 800 registered players across 67 teams with 270 of those registered players being female. Lake Macquarie Council have invested $1.2 million dollars to build a new clubhouse with upgraded canteen, store room, amenities and changing facilities at John Street Oval, Warners Bay. Prior to this upgrade there has been substandard infrastructure which did not meet the needs of the ever growing club members. This new facility will help towards benefiting the community by increasing participation and playing opportunities whilst helping to grow memberships for the club. Click here to watch the video.

Official Opening of Pennant Hills Oval It was a memorable day for Gladesville Hornsby Football Association club Pennant Hills FC as they hosted the official opening of their new artificial surface facility, Pennant Hills Oval, on Saturday April 2nd. The official launch of the ground coincided with the first Gladesville Hornsby Association Competition round as representatives from Hornsby Shire Council including the Mayor, Councillor Steve Russell and former Sport & Recreation Manager Peter Kemp and the State Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean MP all took part in what was a fantastic day for the club and the sport.

The million dollar upgrade state of the art field was officially opened by Randwick Mayor, Noel D’Souza and said he is pleased to be investing in the future of the local area and providing high quality facilities for the community. “I am immensely proud to see Heffron Park transform itself as one of Sydney’s leading sports facilities.”
A first synthetic field for Centennial Park March 2016 saw the opening of the Centennial Parklands project of a synthetic sports field in Moore Park. Driven by the demand in the community, the field will allow for increased sports participation due to population growth which will act as an all weather community sports facility a stone throw away from Sydney’s CBD. This facility will help to recoup over 3000 hours of sports usage that is lost annually due to wet weather and turf maintenance, and provide a fantastic venue for all clubs in the Eastern Suburbs FA.
Waverley Oval 2 gets a synthetic field Waverley Council officially opened their state of the art synthetic field at Waverley Oval 2 on 10th June. The development sees an increase in usage at the ground from 30 hours per week to up to 100 hours per week. The ground will not only be used by local clubs, but will also see many schools in the area utilising the field during the day year round. Waverley Mayor Sally Betts said Waverley was the most densely populated area in Australia and the community, especially the children, desperately needed more recreational space.
