First synthetic field in the City of RydE unveiling of the new synthetic surface at ELS Hall Park #1. City of Ryde Mayor, Bill Pickering and Clr. Roy Maggio welcomed Football NSW, Gladesville Hornsby Football Association (GHFA), Cricket NSW and AFL NSW/ACT to ELS Hall Park in North Ryde on Friday, 10 February 2017 for the unveiling. ELS Hall Park #1 is the first synthetic field in the City of Ryde, with two more fields scheduled for construction at the home of football in the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association, Christie Park in early March. The synthetic field at ELS Hall Park has a cork infill base, which is the first of its kind being rolled out nationally. The cork infill will help decrease the heat that emanates off the synthetic in warm weather.
use of the facility, which has floodlighting capable to host night competition games during the season. City of Ryde Mayor, Bill Pickering was ecstatic with the result of the new synthetic surface at ELS Hall Park and can’t wait till the two fields at Christie Park are built and ready for use later in 2017. Clr Maggio has hinted that Council will look to further invest in synthetic surfaces in the City of Ryde to cater for the growing demand in the future. With football playing numbers continuing to grow and the large injection of housing that is being introduced in the City of Ryde, additional synthetic surfaces across the council area will assist in providing further opportunities for the residents of Ryde to use open space to its maximum capability. Congratulations to the City of Ryde and all the sporting organisations that have come together to make this project such a great success.
The new synthetic field has been built for the community in mind with a number of sports having the opportunity to use the facility all year round, rain, hail or shine. Football will share the field with AFL during the winter season for both training and competition. The City of Ryde have done a fantastic job in catering for the needs of the community and all sports in the ELS Hall Park precinct. The synthetic surface has been marked out with a full sized football field, a junior AFL field and 4 small sided football fields with the cricket pitch situated in the middle of the field on a hydraulic system, which is lowered and covered during the winter season for football. ELS Hall Park is home to the Ryde Panthers Football Club and the North West Sydney Koalas. Both clubs will look to make good

Latest innovative LED Lights to be trialled at Ruddock Park In September 2016, Hornsby Shire Council installed 8 x 1300 watt Raptor LED sports field lights at Ruddock Park. In a growing market to improve the quality of light at night, moving to LED lighting could be the solution. The 90lux lights will be brighter, clearer, have glare control/spillage, be low on maintenance, and more efficient. This lights upgrade will allow Thornleigh Thunder SC based in the Gladesville-Hornsby Football Association to train at the site at night during the winter seasons. The lights were installed by REES Electrical and are going to be trialled during the 2017 winter season.
North Turramurra Recreation AREA (NTRA) Northern Suburbs Football Association will be reaping the benefits of a new synthetic pitch that has been laid at NTRA. The project is unique in such that part of the local golf course was used to accommodate 3 sporting fields, 1 synthetic and 2 turf pitches. Greenplay Australia who constructed the synthetic surface used a unique design of two small-sided fields also usable as a penalty area for training with a second fixed full-size goal. Greenplay Australia have used a stronger yarn for the small-sided fields due to higher wear expected in those areas. With stage 1 of the project complete this will allow around 60 hours per week usage regardless of the rain, compared to an average 25 hours per week usage on grass surfaces. Stage 2 of the project will see an amenities building and a new car park open in late 2017. The main elements of the project are: • new golf holes and an overhaul of existing golf holes, providing a longer more challenging course • three floodlit multi-use sports fields • sports field car park • three floodlit netball practice courts within the car park • sports amenities buildings • golf and community amenities buildings • new golf car park • new entry and exit traffic devices • water recycling system and wetlands • recycled irrigation • stormwater detention management system • walking paths linked to adjacent bush land tracks • recreation and BBQ facilities • landscape works Football Facilities | NSW Facilities Unit | April 2017 Newsletter | 03

Grass roots clubs throughout the GHFA will no doubt use the venue during the football season as well for matches such as wash outs and finals series games. The 2 synthetic pitches are part of stage 1 of a masterplan for the site, with future stages including; a new centralised grandstand between the 2 synthetic fields with amenities that include change rooms, canteen, etc., additional synthetic futsal courts and a construction of a third synthetic field above an elevated car park. Futsal to benefit from the developments at Waitara Park Precinct The Waitara Park Precinct, in Hornsby Shire Council will be receiving a massive capital works overhaul that will benefit the local community and in particular Futsal. The park is surrounded by residential densities and the issue of Crown Land ownership with Police Citizens Youth Centre (PCYC) saw council adopting the Waitara Park Plan of Management (PoM) in 2015. As part of this proposal the tennis courts would be relocated to the Crown Land at the north end. Schematic designs for the integration of the tennis courts at the north end and a new building adjoining Park Lane at the south have been prepared. In order to facilitate these change in the park, a specific plan of management will document the changes in use, and related changes required to community land categorisation at the south end of the site. The plan must address both Local Government Act requirements as well as Crown Land requirements for the former Bowling Club to the north. The preparation of this PoM also enables Council to strategically address recreation needs in a staged manner. It will enable commencement of the development of new open space facilities at Waitara Park, and will help identify a program of development and ongoing maintenance works. With Futsal participants growing each year, the new PCYC facility based around the Waitara Park will benefit many in the area. Construction commenced in June 2016 on a new PCYC facility with works expected to be completed by July 2017. This facility will include:• indoor courts for netball and basketball, exercise, dance, drama, boxing • meeting rooms • 87 underground car parking spaces • appealing external open space for the community including terraces with trampolines, hammocks and outdoor table tennis.
