SPECIAL OCCASIONS
In 1955, Chevrolet's full-size model received all new styling and power. The 1955 Bel Air was 3,456 lb (1,568 kg) and 15 ft (4.6 m) long. It was called the "Hot One" in GM's advertising campaign. Chevrolet's styling was crisp, clean and incorporated a Ferrariinspired grille. Bel Airs came with features found on cars in the lower models ranges plus interior carpet, chrome headliner bands on hardtops, chrome spears on front fenders, stainless steel window moldings, and full wheel covers.

Over the past 13 years the Foothills Times magazine has undergone many changes, with those changes have come additions that have had great response. At this time we are going to add an online version of our vintage cars section. I decided to call it “Dave’s Vintage Cars”. Many guys and Gals take a lot of interest in their vintage cars, I have enjoyed seeing delighted faces when they see their car in the magazine. More details coming soon. Please send your car information with pictures to be in our upcoming issue to www.foothillspublisher@gmail.com Send photos (4 is fine), make of car, year of car and motor size. Anything you want to say about it, send that also. Magazine is updated as new cars come in, new pages posted at the beginning of the magazine. Happy reading everyone! Sincerely, David Eriksen

Foothills Vintage Cars Vol. 5
SPECIAL OCCASIONS 1966 Corvettes were produced from September 1965 through July 1966 with a total production of 27,720 of which only 9,958 were coupes. The 427 cubic-inch engine were introduced in the 1966 model. The 1966 solid-lifter high performance engine was initially listed and labeled at 450 hp but the rating was reduced to 425 hp shortly after introduction. These were administrative decisions not related to any changes in the engine. Fifteen 1966 Corvettes were equipped with the M-22 heavy duty close ratio transmission which were purposed for competition and those cars are generally known to be the predecessors to the famed L-88s that arrived in 1967.

It was the end to the illustrious Virgil Exner era with Chrysler and the fabulous 1950s and the start of a new collaboration with Elwood Engel, a talented designer that worked for Ford Motor Car Company. Chrysler executives enticed Elwood to join their team. The 1964 Imperial re-design was his ďŹ rst project on the Chrysler team. Engel designed the Lincoln Continental for Ford in the early 1960s, and the guy was brilliant. SPECIAL THANKS TO: notoriousluxury.com
