WAUKESHA CI IC THEATRE V
The stories. . c i s u m The Our community. waukeshacivictheatre.org
This year, we’re happy to build on our 54-year tradition as Waukesha’s first choice for quality live entertainment. Our new season brings you the stories and the music you love, with plenty of surprises along the way. Don’t forget about our holiday shows, ACT shows and classes, the ACAP PlayMakers show, Random Acts of Entertainment, and our art gallery. Come early to enjoy a refreshing glass of soda, wine, or beer. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved and support live theatre at WCT. You can be a patron, a donor, a student, and/or an actor, or you can volunteer in a variety of capacities. Donations can be made in a number of ways: monetary gifts to the operating fund, the capital fund, or the endowment fund; material donations (ask about our wish list!); and planned giving arrangements that let you make a lasting contribution to WCT. Visit our website for more information on auditions and all of the other exciting things happening at WCT, including our new Loop system for patrons with hearing loss and our new live and interactive online ticketing system! You will notice these new codes that now appear throughout our brochure. These are QR codes, designed to be read by your internet-capable smartphone. Scan these codes to get up-to-date info about our shows, including cast lists, show photos, reviews, and how to purchase tickets online. You can get a free QR code reader app from the iTunes App Store, Blackberry App World, or Android Market. We’ve been around more than 50 years, and we’re still going strong. We present more than 25 artistic events over 40 weeks of the year. More than 400 members of our community are involved in our organization as volunteers, contributing 20,000 hours to Waukesha’s cultural cornerstone. We are proud of our theatre, proud of our community, and proud to present our 55th season. See you at the Theatre,
John Cramer Managing Artistic Director

Uplifting, genuine, and just plain fun, this is bluegrass gospel as you’ve never heard it before. It’s 1938 in rural North Carolina, and Pastor Mervin Oglethorpe is trying to lead the church service. But the real stars are in the choir, as the Sanders family teach the congregation through stories and songs. Meet daddy Burl, momma Vera, and children Dennis, Denise, June, and Stanley as they perform “I’ll Fly Away,” “No Tears in Heaven,” “I Wouldn’t Take Nothing For My Journey Now,” “Smoke On The Mountain,” and many other classic songs.

OCTOBER 28 - NOVEMBER 13, 2011 • MELODRAMATIC MYSTERY By George M. Cohan
FRI SAT SUN 8pm 8pm 2pm
A vagabond, a distraught woman, and the Governor’s family walk into a tavern ... there’s no expected punchline, but plenty of smart humor in this atmospheric mystery tale. The Governor’s coach has been held up by robbers. The vagabond won’t reveal his name, even as he charms the Governor’s daughter and perplexes the tavern owner with his odd speeches and songs. The distraught woman vows revenge against the men who ruined her. When the Sheriff finally arrives, it seems like everything is under control. Or is it? A one-of-a-kind period play by the Father of Broadway.

Isabelle “Izzy” Grossman is a smart, Jewish twenty-something working at a New York bookstore. While she is captivated by the intellectual world of authors like Anton Maes, her grandmother Bubbie Ida wants her granddaughter to settle down with a “nice man.” Izzy sets her hopes on Anton, but Bubbie calls on a local matchmaker to set Izzy up with Sam, who owns a pickle shop. This fun romantic comedy crosses generations and customs with wit and warmth – as Izzy eventually “crosses Delancey” to find love.

FRI SAT SUN 8pm 8pm 2pm
The remarkable story of Helen Keller – blind, deaf, and mute – and Annie Sullivan, the teacher who opened Helen’s world through the power of words. Annie must control both Helen’s wild behavior and her family’s pity in order to reach inside Helen’s mind and help give her the ability to communicate. All the while, Annie struggles with memories of her own tragic past. This classic play is a powerful tale of determination and love, and the ways in which language connects us all.

The mystery begins with a very busy body – or two! Office cleaner Mrs. Piper discovers a dead body, and calls the police. But before they can arrive, it moves. Or did it? Detective Superintendent Harry Baxter is tired, cranky, sick with a cold, and unhappy to hear about a missing corpse. But Mrs. Piper insists she saw her boss’s body – until he walks into the room.
