A F E W WO R D S F R O M T H E A R T I S T I C D I R E C TO R Welcome to CAMELOT, the first show of our 32nd season. After the tremendous success of MY FAIR LADY on Broadway, expectations were high for the new Lerner and Loewe musical. Here at Light Opera Works, after the success of our 2009 production of MY FAIR LADY, with Nick Sandys as Henry Higgins, I definitely had high expectations for another project with Nick, and for many reasons CAMELOT seemed the obvious choice. Even while working on Henry Higgins we joked about Nick playing King Arthur. It took us a few years to bring it to fruition; I had to find the Guenevere that could share the stage with him, and the Lancelot that would challenge him. I could not have been luckier to have Jennie Sophia and William Travis Taylor return to Light Opera Works to take on these roles. Directing this unique relationship among these three very strong-willed characters has been a challenge and a great reward for me. I leave you with one thought: Don’t let it be forgot that once there was a spot, For one brief, shining moment that was known as Camelot. Rudy Hogenmiller Artistic Director

T H E S TO R Y As Act One begins, King Arthur and his court await the arrival of Arthur’s intended bride, Guenevere. The King anticipates his upcoming nuptials with trepidation, but his misgivings are cast aside upon actually meeting the lady. Both are immediately charmed with the other. Inspired by his mentor, the wizard Merlyn, Arthur is inspired to establish the Round Table, dedicated to the highest ideals of chivalry. Merlyn, having advised Arthur since childhood, now takes his leave, and Arthur is left to face the future alone. Lancelot arrives from France, determined to join Arthur’s knights. Guenevere initially takes a dislike to the new arrival, but the mutual attraction between the Queen and this most perfect knight sets the stage for the troubles to come. In Act Two, the uneasy peace of Camelot is shattered by the arrival of Mordred, Arthur’s illegitimate son, who seeks to dishonor the King and gain the throne for himself. After conspiring with his aunt, the sorceress Morgan le Fey, Morded exposes the liaison between Guenevere and Lancelot, and contrives to place the Queen on trial. She is found guilty and is condemned to burn at the stake. Lancelot rescues her and carries her off, precipitating war between England and France. Before the battle, which will prove to be his last, Arthur meets a young stowaway who wants to join the Round Table. Arthur knights him but keeps him from the fight, sending him back to England to carry on the ideals of Camelot.

Mom always helped you
with the big decisions. Here’s your chance to return the favor. It’s not easy finding the right situation for your mom as her health needs change. e answer is e Highlands of Evanston Assisted Living community.
Our experienced staff is specially trained to provide your mother with the attention and care she deserves. Registered nurses administer medication, while resident assistants check on her, help with dressing, and keep her safe 24 hours a day.
We also give your mom, dad or Aunt Betty every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest. We encourage residents to have new experiences, plus continue doing the things they love.
Because at Presbyterian Homes and e Highlands of Evanston, caring is more than just a word – it’s a different language. To reserve a time for lunch and a visit, call Carol Tatarowicz at 847-866-1615.
