BIOGR APHIES Courtney Matula (Mary Jane McMann) is a sophomore Theater Performance and Communications double major who has a penchant for theater arts in all shapes and forms. Courtney has been involved in theater since she was in 2nd grade when a teacher suggested she channel her hyperactivity into something creative! And thus the seed was planted! She has previously been seen lurking around the stages of Carthage College as Courtney Machula in The Railsplitter and Sister James in Doubt: A Parable; she also takes part in other performance activities such as the Merely Players improv comedy group and the Carthage Neil-Futurists. Courtney would like to thank the cast & crew of Inspecting Carol for such a great experience and all the hilarious times together. She would also like to thank her family & friends for being so supportive and loving through everything! Enjoy the show! David Duncan (Wayne Wellacre) is thrilled to be doing this show for his senior thesis, but it is a bittersweet experience knowing that this is his final mainstage performance at Carthage. He is double majoring in Theatre Performance and Music with a Vocal Performance Emphasis. He was most recently seen as Ernst Ludwig in last spring’s chilling production of Cabaret. I love you all.“God Bless Us, Everyone!” Elodie Senetra (Zorah Bloch)couldn’t be more overwhelmed and delighted to perform in her first farce! She is a senior performance major and was most recently seen as Ensemble in Twelfth Night at Optimist Theatre, just after dashing from prop designing last years musical, Cabaret. Favorite past productions at Carthage include Dead Man’s Cell Phone (Jean), One Day in the Season of Rain (Mallika), and Lysistrata (Calonice). She dreams of grad schools sweeping her off her feet after all she has learned from the gifted faculty and friends she has met in this community, and would like to thank those who have shared their love for the mess and lust of theatre arts. Jenna Payne (Lucy Beatty) is thrilled to be making her Carthage Mainstage debut! As a sophomore double majoring in Music Theatre and Theatre, Jenna also takes on the roles as the Box Office Manager and Assistant Producer for Carthage’s Current TV. Her past favorite roles include The Wife/ The Actress in See What I Wanna See (Carthage Workshop Musical), Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dremacoat, Maggie Cutler in The Man Who Came To Dinner, Izzy in Rabbit

Brea Beelow (Dorothy Tree-Hapgood) Brea is a Junior with a Musical Theatre and Theatre Performance Double Major. You may have seen her in Cabaret; The Rail Splitter and Dead Man’s Cell Phone. Other roles at Carthage include Sunday in the Park with George; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change; and Lysistrata. Brea is very excited for Inspecting Carol. She wants to thank all of her friends and family for all of their support. She hopes everyone enjoys the show!! Alex Campea (Sidney Carlton) is more than ecstatic to finally be acting in his first straight show at Carthage. Currently working on his eighth and ninth productions here at Carthage, Alex may be remembered in such roles as: Cliff Bradshaw in CABARET, Hunter in [TITLE OF SHOW], Franz/Dennis in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, and as Bobby Strong in the upcoming music theatre workshop production of URINETOWN. Alex is a junior pursuing degrees in Music Theater and Theater Performance as well as a Dance Minor. Alex would like to thank his fantastic parents, his amazing and supportive brothers of Delta Upsilon, his best friend Preston, and of course the Theater Department for, yet again, another fantastic opportunity! Enjoy the show! Andrew Stachurski (Phil Hewlitt) is very excited to be a part of Inspecting Carol, playing the role of Phil Hewlitt. This will be Andrew’s fourth main stage performance here at Carthage College. He has performed such roles as Joseph Wykowski (Biloxi Blues), Vilom (One Day in the Season of Rain), and Andrew Stuckowski (The Rail Splitter). He is also a member of the “Neil-futurists”. Andrew would like to thank the Lisle Lizards and Dan Brennan, Brett Robertson, Derek Nelson, Caitlin Robertson, Brigette Estola, and Maureen Toomey for their support and friendship. He would also

like to thank his family for their support and encouraging him to do what’s best. Andrew would like to thank you for coming to see the show and hopes you will thoroughly enjoy it. Ashley Hess (Ruth E. Parsons) New to the Carthage theatre program as a freshman, Ashley Hess is making her first appearance on the Carthage Stage with her portrayal of Ruth E. Parsons. Ashley was in several plays in her high school career and now awaits the exciting new challenges of college theatre. She is a Theatre and Communication double major and she hopes to have many great years to come with the program. Shannon Fox (Karen Emery) is a Theatre Performance and Communication Major savoring every moment of her Junior year. Inspecting Carol is Shannon’s fifth performance on the Carthage Main Stage and she is thrilled to be working with such a talented, energetic, and enjoyable cast. She’d like to thank her family for supporting her love for the performing arts, the DU’s for always making her smile, and Elodie for all her love and encouragement. Spencer Jacobsen (Bart) is a Freshman this year at Carthage. He is currently a member of the Gospel Messengers Choir and a part of Oftenacious Vocals A Cappella Group. This will be his first show on campus, and he could not feel more honored to be part of such an amazing cast! Spencer would like to thank his family for always being there to catch him when he falls! Slim Simonini (Larry Vauxhall) This is Slim’s fourth mainstage production with the Carthage College Theatre Department. Previous mainstage roles include Georgie in THE LAST MASS AT ST. CASIMIR’S, Gordon Miller in ROOM SERVICE, and Hennessey in BILOXI BLUES. Slim is a senior and anticipates graduating this spring with a double major in Political Science and Theatre. Between shows and schoolwork Slim finds himself back home in Antioch Carthage College 3

Slim is open minded and optimistic about life after graduation but has not yet committed to a specific life path. Slim aspires to one day own a piece of the American Pie where he can live simple and free raising rabbits, keeping bees, chopping wood, and gardening. Abbey Bobzin (Betty Andrews) is a freshman making her debut on the Carthage stage. To her fellow thespians, she would like to thank them for all their encouragement in this new journey. She would like to thank her family for their never-ending support and guidance, and especially her sister Lynn for being a constant artistic inspiration. Finally to the audience- sit back, have a laugh, and enjoy. Herschel Kruger (Director) Herschel Kruger earned his M.F.A. in acting from the University of Illinois, and while there completed an Independent Study in Directing with Dr. Burnet Hobgood. Professor Kruger is also a graduate of the National Shakespeare Conservatory’s two-year Professional Actors Training program in New York City, and holds a B.A. in theatre communications from Cardinal Stritch University. He has worked as an actor and director in New York, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. In 2009, Professor Kruger directed the world premiere of HONEST at Carthage, which was then selected as a full participating production at the 2010 region III Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Saginaw, Mich. Commendations were given in Curricular Development, Playwriting, and Acting by the KCACTF National Selection Committee. Professor Kruger’s 2008 production of INDEPENDENCE was selected to represent the state of Wisconsin at the 2009 region III Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival evening of scenes. Professor Kruger teaches the upperlevel acting and directing classes, a 4 Carthage College

variety of other theatre classes, and directs two main stage productions each year. He has also led two separate J-Term trips to Greece and Germany to study theatre. In June of 2012 year he is leading a trip to New York that will focus on Modern Theatre and Art along with his wife Maureen. Directing credits at Carthage include CABARET, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, LYSISTRATA, HONEST, MOON OVER BUFFALO, BLOOD BROTHERS, PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, POSTMORTEM, INDEPENDENCE, and the entire “Over the Tavern” trilogy including OVER THE TAVERN, KING O’THE MOON, and LAST MASS AT ST. CASIMIR’S. This one’s for you Roxy! Danielle Lemmermann (PSM) is a junior, double majoring in Theater and German. She has been backstage doing crew since 2004, and is excited to continue that trend with this show. Some recent shows she has been a part of were costume crew for LYSISTRATA, Assistant Stage Manager for CABARET, and costume crew for THE KING AND I for the West Allis Players. She would like to thank the cast and crew for this amazing experience, and her family and friends for their support in everything she does. Enjoy the show! Martin McClendon (Scenic Designer/ Lighting Designer/Technical Director) Martin is an assistant professor of theatre at Carthage. Before he began teaching he spent 10 years working as a professional actor, carpenter, and scene designer in Chicago and Los Angeles. He designed more than a dozen sets for Chicago’s Defiant Theatre, twice receiving Joseph Jefferson Citation nominations for his scenic work. As an actor he has appeared on the stages of Chicago’s Steppenwolf, Northlight, and Victory Gardens theatres among others. Martin has also worked in television, appearing in national and regional commercials, episodes of ER and Early Edition, and several pilots, as well as independent films. He would like to thank Jennifer, Arabella, and Horatio for their support.

Kim Instenes (Assistant Professor of Theatre/Costume Design Supervisor) Kim holds an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from Ohio University, and a BA in Theatre from UW-Whitewater. Kim joins us from UW-Parkside where she has been working as the costume shop supervisor. She has also worked as a sabbatical replacement at UW-Parkside and Lawrence University. She has designed a number of productions for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Lawrence University including IMAGINARY INVALID, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and the TROJAN WAR. Kim continues to work as a freelance costume and make-up designer working in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. Design credits include THE GIVER and PERSEUS BAYOU at First Stage, Milwaukee Shakespeare, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Racine Theatre Guild. Currently, costumer designer for the World premier of Gossamer, written by Lois Lowery at First Stage Milwaukee. William Newcomb (Assistant Technical Director): The newest member of the Carthage Theatre faculty, William holds a B.F.A. degree in Technical Theatre from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas, and an M.F.A. degree in Arts Administration from Southern Utah University. He was Assistant Manager of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre for two years before coming to Carthage. William also serves as Production Manager for the Optimist Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park. Other credits include Technical Director of the Wells Fine Arts Center at Tarleton State University, Assistant Technical Director at Oberlin College, Scene Shop Foreman at Ohio Light Opera, and Assistant Production Manager of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. William teaches Play Production I: Stagecraft in addition to managing the scene shop. He would like to thank his wife Alison for her continued love and support. Mitch Weindorf (Property Master) Mitch Weindorf is a Junior from

Campbellsport, WI. He is a Theater Performance Major and a German Minor. In his time at Carthage, he has worked in and learned about a variety of aspects of theater. Highlights in his Technical Work include Tech Director for Beautiful Bodies, Master Carpenter for The Railsplitter and Cabaret, and Assistant Stage Mangager for Dead Man’s Cellphone. This summer, Mitch worked as a Production Intern at Peninsula Players Theatre where he worked in the Scene and Prop Shop, Box Office, and as an Actor and Assistant Stage Manager. Mitch would like to thank his faculty, friends, and family for their continued support and help. Kelly Field (ASM) is a freshman, majoring in Theatre Production and Design with a minor in English. She has been doing backstage work since 2007, and is excited to be continuing crew work for this show. A recent play she was involved in was The Good Doctor as Props Master and she was Assistant Stage Manager for the musical Guys and Dolls. She would like to thank her teachers, the cast and the crew for this amazing experience. Also she would like to thank her family, friends, and Scott Walz for supporting her through everything. Nicole Middleton (PROPS CREW) is super happy to be getting involved behind the scenes for Inspecting Carol. She is a true lover of the theatre, she was last seen on stage at the Whitney Young Company in Chicago. She also enjoys doing improv in her downtime; she’s done shows at Comedy Sportz. Those two theatres have been her home for so long and she is ecstatic to call Carthage College theatre her new home. She keeps in mind the professors, friends, and directors who have inspired and encouraged her to continue down the path of theatre. She hopes to be on stage very soon but she keeps herself busy with organizations on campus like Pals and Partners when she’s not around the theatre. The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival™ XLIII The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education; Dr. Gerald and Paula McNichols Foundation; The Honorable Stuart Bernstein and Wilma E. Bernstein; the Kennedy Center Corporate Fund; and the National Committee for the Performing Arts. This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in collegelevel theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels. Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for inclusion at the KCACTF regional festival and can also be considered for invitation to the KCACTF national festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC in the spring of 2011. Last year more than 1,300 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.

AWA R D W I N N I N G P L A Y W R I G H T C O M E S TO C A R T H AG E Carthage students will once again have the opportunity to study under an award-winning playwright this year. Students are working with Wasserstein Prize-winner Laura Jacqmin as part of the Carthage Theatre Department’s visiting artist program. Ms. Jacqmin is a Chicago-based playwright who won the 2008 Wasserstein Prize, which recognizes emerging female playwrights. Ms. Jacqmin graduated cum laude from Yale University and earned her MFA from Ohio University. Students worked with Ms. Jacqmin to develop the story of her new play Ghost Bike, which will be staged at Carthage Feb. 17-25. Ms. Jacqmin asked Carthage students to make videos of themselves answering questions about their experiences with death, their opinions on the afterlife, and what comes to mind when they hear the word “memorial.” The students then posted their videos to YouTube. Ms. Jacqmin wrote the play based on their answers. Technical production and design major Shannon Meyer, ‘12, is designing the set for the production. Ms. Jacqmin taught as an adjunct professor of theatre at Carthage in 2008 and 2010, teaching a course on playwriting. This semester, she will visit several times to work with students, and will be on campus for rehearsals through January and February. Ms. Jacqmin also has a reading scheduled on campus on Nov. 8. Ms. Jacqmin’s plays include Look, We Are Breathing (2010 Sundance Institute Theatre Lab on Governors Island, dir. Mark Brokaw); January Joiner (2010 Page 73 summer Yale residency, dir. May Adrales); and Ski Dubai (Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s 5th Annual First Look Repertory of New Work). Milvotchkee,

Visconsin was workshopped at the Lark Theatre’s Playwrights Week in Fall 2010 (dir. Christian Parker). Her play I Am Frightened of My Body premiered in Ars Nova’s ANT Fest in Fall 2010. Her play Dental Society Midwinter Meeting, which enjoyed a sold-out run at Chicago Dramatists in Summer 2010, was remounted at 16th Street Theatre in early 2011. Her short play Wax Party is currently a finalist for Actors’ Theatre of Louisville’s 2011 Heideman Award. Her other plays include Folk Song, Alberta/Einstein, And when we awoke there was light and light, and DoGooder. Her plays have been produced and developed at the Goodman Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Joe’s Pub, The 24 Hour Plays Off-Broadway, Victory Gardens Theater, Chicago Dramatists, Second Stage Theatre, Icicle Creek Theatre Festival, the MacDowell Colony, Aurora Theatre Company, Northlight Theatre, Contemporary American Theater Festival, and the inaugural NNPN University Playwrights Workshop at Stanford University, among others. Ms. Jacqmin was a contributing writer for The Onion A.V. Club and A.V. Club Chicago from 2007 to 2008. She was a member of the 2010-2011 playwrights unit at the Goodman Theatre, and is currently working on new play commissions for Ensemble Studio Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science & Technology Project, Arden Theatre Company, the Goodman Theatre, and InterAct Theatre. Her plays 10 Virgins, Pluto Was a Planet, Space, Airborne and more are published by Smith & Kraus and Playscripts, Inc. In the past, Carthage students have worked with Emmy and Academy Award-winning playwrights including Rick Cleveland and Eric Simonson through the visiting artist program. DREAM BIKES The bicycles for the upcoming production of GHOST BIKE were bought through special arrangement with DreamBikes. DreamBikes is more than a used bike store. It is a 501 (c)3 non-profit bike store staffed by neighborhood kids who otherwise would not have the chance for a job. DreamBikes gets kids on bikes who normally couldn’t afford one. Once you donate a bike, the kids will clean it up, tune it up and prepare the bike for resale in the store. DreamBikes brings safe and quality bicycles at a great price to a community in need and in doing so, helps to build the community. DreamBikes provides the bikes and the jobs to open new world of possibility. The entire operation is a dream. Where is it? The first DreamBikes is located in the Allied Dunn’s Marsh neighborhood of Madison, Wisconsin. The second location is located in the Brewer’s Hill neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. SYNOPSIS Ora and Eddie, best friends since elementary school, fall in love with the city on their bikes. But when Eddie is hit by a car and killed, Ora refuses to let him go. Armed only with an electric map of ghost bike memorials, Ora rides beneath the city to have one last conversation with her friend. But the city won’t part with Eddie’s soul so easily. Jumping off from Greek, African, and Chinese mythology, Ghost Bike is a mash-up of underworld and after-life, from the seats of fixies, BMX’s and ten-speeds.
