L E T T E R F R O M T H E A R T I S T I C A N D E X E C U T I V E D I R E C TO R S Dear Friends, Thank you for spending a part of your holidays as a member of our performing family. This 30th Anniversary season has brought the return of many familiar voices to our ranks, and an influx of new voices as well. As the year progresses we also hope to engage many of our 1200-plus alumni in a celebration of where we’ve been, and the exciting places we hope to go. Stay tuned for more details! Thirty years lifting our voices in support of our community Like so many LGBT and HIV/AIDS support organizations, CGMC got its start in the early 80s. Since that time many positive changes have occurred in the areas of equality, acceptance and support for our community. However, the fight is not over. While celebrating our 30th Anniversary, we see our mission to Entertain, to Inspire, to Motivate and to Comfort as important as it was in 1983. At our recent Best Friends reception in October, we listened as six friends, old and new, shared how CGMC affected their lives in positive and meaningful ways. They spoke of CGMC lending its voice to comfort the sick, providing support for a grieving family, celebrating a wedding or entertaining fans at Wrigley Field. Our younger members (many of whom weren’t yet born when we were founded) left with a deeper connection to their community. We are grateful for the power of unity in song and are humbled that our friends, our communities, and you – our audience – continue to listen as we move into our future. Thank you! Reaching new audiences across Chicagoland The members of CGMC will raise their voices in song in six venues this season. Our spring show All You Need Is Love – The Music of the Beatles will return us to the Athenaeum, and for the first time we will perform at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. The Beatles concert will be a high energy show featuring the music of the Fab Four. All You Need Is Love will take some of the most famous pop songs of all time and re-examine them through a gay lens, while adding splashes of color and movement as only CGMC can do. We hope you’ll join us. We are also releasing our 4th CD Here We Come A-Caroling, a compilation of our favorite holiday songs from the last 15 years. Please stop by and pick up a copy in our lobby at intermission, or visit cgmc.org to order one for everyone on your list – they make the perfect stocking-stuffer.

ABOUT THE CHORUS With more than 150 singing members backed by a small army of volunteers, the CGMC family covers a diverse cross-section of the Chicago metropolitan area. CGMC delivers a distinctive brand of entertainment that keeps our audience coming back again and again. Our members log thousands of hours annually to accomplish an ambitious schedule of performances, fund-raisers and charitable appearances. We Entertain CGMC delivers a unique entertainment experience found nowhere else in the city. We produce professional-quality shows that combine the best elements of musical theater, cabaret and traditional choral performance. But only CGMC can add that special “twist of gaiety” that can make each show fun, moving and memorable. We Inspire Whether we’re representing the community while singing the national anthem at Wrigley Field or providing rarely-seen GLBT-friendly entertainment in smaller cities downstate, CGMC serves as ambassadors and provides a positive image to countless thousands every year. We Motivate Sometimes the message to take action can be delivered more effectively through song than through speech. That’s why CGMC has been heard regularly in the dome of the state Capitol (supporting GLBT rights and domestic partner benefits) and at major fundraising events throughout the city (often supporting AIDS-related organizations). We Comfort CGMC is not only an integral part of the community, but we are a family. When asked to help, CGMC heeds the call. We’ve sung at the Auditorium Theater honoring the victims of Sept. 11. We sing at smaller memorial services honoring local community leaders... and sometimes our own members. We’re humbled to realize that CGMC’s presence can bring comfort and healing to those around us. For more information, to join our mailing list or to find out how you can support the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus, visit cgmc.org. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. CGMC is supported in part by a City Arts 2 grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

CGMC is a proud member of GALA Choruses, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses, an international organization. CGMC is a proud member of the League of Chicago Theatres

THE L ARRY E. BURKE MEMORIAL SCHOL ARSHIP FUND In addition to their many talents and their endless enthusiasm, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus members are also required to contribute financially to the success of the organization – through annual dues and miscellaneous costs associated with weekend rehearsal retreats and traveling performances. Fortunately, CGMC members who are not able to meet these financial obligations can earn scholarships through the memorial fund left by Larry Burke, a longtime member and dear friend of the chorus who died in February 2005. Through Larry’s generosity, every CGMC member has the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits and experiences the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus has to offer.
