CAST Melanie Keller (The Woman) A proud Artistic Associate of First Folio, Melanie was last seen as Elvira in Blithe Spirit. Other First Folio credits include Twelfth Night, Jeeves in Bloom, Design for Living, Angel Street, Private Lives and The Importance of Being Earnest. She spent the summer at Peninsula Players. She is also a member of Signal Ensemble, most recently appearing in their acclaimed productions of East of Berlin and The Russian Play. Other Signal credits include The Weir (Jeff Nomination-Best Supporting Actress), She Stoops to Conquer, Landslide and Much Ado About Nothing. She was a Chicago Associates Fellow at the Stratford Festival of Canada and was the winner of a Tyrone Guthrie award.

Chicago credits include A Life (Northlight Theatre), Hamlet and King John (Chicago Shakespeare), Marathon ’33 (Strawdog), and productions with Next, Metropolis and BackStage, among others. Melanie trained at the Birmingham Conservatory of Stratford and at RADA in London.

Nick Sandys (The Man) is an Artistic Associate at First Folio, where he has appeared in Blithe Spirit (Jeff Nomination 2011), Twelfth Night (Jeff Nomination 2010), Much Ado About Nothing (Jeff Nomination 2008), Richard III, and Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed and choreographed Romeo & Juliet (2011) and Macbeth (2009), and designed fights for The Castle of Otranto. Other Chicagoland appearances include The Goat Or, Who Is Sylvia? (Jeff Nomination 2011, Chicago Magazine Best Actor 2011), Les Liaisons

He is the recipient of a 2011 Achievement Award from The Helen Coburn Meier and Tim Meier Charitable Foundation for the Arts, and this February he became the Artistic Director of Remy Bumppo Theatre Company.

Whitney Morse (u/s The Woman) is delighted to be understudying at First Folio again, where she recently understudied Billie Dwyer in Unnecessary Farce. Other Chicago credits: Phoebe in I Carry Your Heart (Prologue Theatre Company as part of the DCA Incubator Series), Meg in Little Women (Theatre-Hikes); and Virginia Otis in iGhost and God On Broadway (Theatre Building Chicago). New York Credits: Hold Music (The Culture Project at The Living Theatre); Susan in Screaming with Maria, Maria/Jaquenetta Love’s Labour’s Lost (Dir. Andrei Serban), and Natasha in Three Sisters (Dir. Andrei Serban). Whitney has an M.F.A in Acting from Columbia University.

Vesely (Director) is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder (with her husband David Rice) of First Folio Theatre where she most recently directed Unnecessary Farce, Tea at Five, The Woman in Black and Blithe Spirit. P R O D U C T I O N S TA F F women’s theater company specializing in all-female productions of Shakespeare’s plays. Alison worked as the Folio Director and Dramaturge on many productions at Footsteps, including Romeo and Juliet, A Midsommer Night’s Dreame, and Macbeth.

She also performed in these productions, earning an After Dark Award for the title role in their production of Macbeth. Other directing credits include Twelfth Night (Wayne State Univ.), Richard III (Hilberry Theatre, Detroit), Richard III (Footsteps and Shakespeare’s Herd at the Chicago Cultural Center), Real Human Dialogue, Riders to the Sea, Kiss Me Kate, and Scrooge. Alison has been an adjudicator for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and the Irene Ryan Awards as well as serving a threeyear term on the Theater Program Grants Panel for the Illinois Arts Council. She is a proud graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University and a member of the Society for Directors and Choreographers.

David Rice (Executive Director) is co-founder (with his wife Alison C. Vesely) of First Folio, where he has produced over 30 shows. As an actor he recently appeared in My Fair Lady, the inaugural production of the new Broadway Series at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora. As a playwright he specializes in stage adaptations of literary works, including The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe (Jeff Award Nomination for New Adaptation in 2007) and The Castle of Otranto. His adaptation of Dean Monti’s Why Dogs Don’t Talk was chosen for City Lit Theater’s first annual Art of Adaptation Festival. First Folio acting roles include Boolie in Driving Miss Daisy, Chris the Sly in The Taming of the Shrew, Egeus and Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Aegeon in The Comedy of Errors, Feste in Twelfth Night and Friar Francis in Much Ado About Nothing. David has also appeared as Boolie in Driving Miss Daisy with Charlotte Rae (Briar Street Theatre); George Reed in 1776 (Marriott’s Lincolnshire); Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened... (Kinetic Theatre); and in numerous other plays and musicals, including Follies (Candlelight Dinner Playhouse), Kuni-Leml (Illinois Theatre Center), and Room Service (Bailiwick). David originated the role of Mr. Toad of Toad Hall in Doug Post’s musical version of The Wind in the Willows at the Organic Theater. Die-hard trivia fans might be interested to know that David was a 4-time winner on Jeopardy!

David has been a proud member of Actors’ Equity Assn. since 1991.

Jeffrey Hatcher (Playwright) Mr. Hatcher’s plays have been produced on Broadway, off-Broadway, throughout the United States, 4 First Folio Theatre

and abroad. They include Three Viewings, A Picasso, Scotland Road, and Compleat Female Stage Beauty as well as adaptations of The Turn of the Screw, The Government Inspector, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Tuesdays with Morrie (with Mitch Albom). Film/ TV: Stage Beauty, Casanova, The Duchess, and episodes of Columbo. He is a member of The Playwrights Center, Dramatists Guild, Writers Guild, and New Dramatists.

Kate Danziger (Stage Manager) returns to First Folio for her eleventh production with the company. At First Folio she has also stage managed Unnecessary Farce, Tea at Five, Romeo and Juliet, The Woman In Black, Macbeth and Twelve Night and assistant stage managed Angel Street, The Tempest, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, and The Taming of the Shrew. Other Chicago credits include Escanaba in da Moonlight and The House of Bernarda Alba (Circle Theatre); Blancaflor (tireswing theatre); Siskel and Ebert Save Chicago (Factory Theater); and Being 11 (Serendipity Theatre Collective). Kate toured nationally as the stage manager and company manager for the world premiere Ralph Lemon dance/multimedia performance piece, How Can You Stay In The House All Day And Not Go Anywhere? Kate has a MFA in Stage Management from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity. She is excited to be a new artistic associate with the company.

Previously, she designed costumes for First Folio’s production of The Woman in Black. He is a frequent designer in the Chicago and Indianapolis areas after serving eight years as an Assistant Lighting Designer with the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. He has been an Associate and Assistant Lighting Designer for many national and international opera companies including The Los Angeles Opera, Dallas Opera, San Diego Opera, Canadian Opera Company (Toronto), Seattle Opera, Portland (OR) Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Atlanta Opera and the New Israeli Opera (Tel Aviv). Michael is a member of United Scenic Artists Local USA-829 and the Head of Lighting for the Department of Theatre at Purdue University.

Beth Zupec (Production Assistant) is excited to be returning for her eighth production

with First Folio where some of the shows she previously assistant on include Unnecessary Farce, Romeo & Juliet, Blithe Spirit and Twelfth Night. This season she can be seen as Lisa in Collected Stories with Rockford’s Artists’ Ensemble, and is delighted to return to First Folio next season as Vivian Duckworth in Jeeves Takes a Bow (which will be her first show with her new husband, and fellow ensemble member, Christian Gray. They will be married this summer!)

Michael F. Goldberg is currently working on a new show centering on the lighting of Michael McNamara and the music of Pantera.

He has also been very busy chauffeuring his boys to soccer, basketball and hockey practices/games this winter as well as trying to maintain a backyard ice rink. Michael is very much looking forward to playing Shylock in First Folio’s upcoming production of The Merchant of Venice this summer.

Christian Gray recently played Androcles in Androcles and the Lion for ShawChicago, where he is an ensemble member. This summer, he will play the role of a lifetime as the groom of fellow Artistic Associate, Lydia Berger.

He will return to First Folio to reprise the role of Bertie Wooster in Jeeves Takes a Bow. Elsa Hiltner most recently designed costumes for Unnecessary Farce and Tea At Five at First Folio Theatre.
