CAST Ellen Cribbs (Mrs. Bradman) is thrilled to make her First Folio debut. Ellen has recently performed the roles of Judith Bliss in Hay Fever (The Stage Center) and Marja in A Klingon Christmas Carol (Commedia Beauregard Theatre). She is also an active ensemble member with Imagination Theatre in Chicago. In 2006 and 2008, Ellen directed and performed in three of her original plays at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Ellen is a proud graduate of Ithaca College and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England.

Erin Noel Grennan (Ruth Condomine) happily returns to First Folio where she previously appeared as Josie In A Moon For The Misbegotten (Jeff nom - best production) and Kate in The Taming Of The Shrew. Local credits include Maggie in The Man Who Came To Dinner, Eugenie in A Flea in Her Ear, Catherine in The Foreigner (Drury Lane Oakbrook); Timon of Athens (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre); Mrs. Chisholm in The Petrified Forest (Theatre At The Center); 5 productions at Peninsula Players and 18 at Circle theatre, including Cecile in Les Liaisons Dangereuses (After Dark Award). This past year, she also appeared in Northlight Theatre’s acclaimed production of A Life. She was the 2007-2008 Chicago Associates Fellow at the Stratford

Festival of Canada, where she appeared in Caesar and Cleopatra, Love’s Labour’s Lost and Romeo and Juliet and was the winner of a Tyrone Guthrie award. She is also a member of Signal Ensemble and has appeared in The Weir (Jeff Nomination-Best Supporting Actress), She Stoops to Conquer, Landslide and Much Ado about Nothing. Other credits include Hamlet and King John (Chicago Shakespeare), Marathon ’33 (Strawdog), and productions with Next, Metropolis and BackStage, among others. Melanie trained at the Birmingham Conservatory of Stratford, RADA in London, and is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University.

Hayley L. Rice (Edith) has previously been seen at First Folio as Lady Mathilda in The Castle of Otranto, Bianca in The Tamer Tamed, and Luce in Comedy of Errors (First Folio Theatre). Elsewhere in Chicago, she has appeared as Dolores in Dream of a Common Language (Prologue Theatre Co.); Clementine in Bonnie and Clementine…, Flora in The Wonder: A Woman Keeps a Secret (Point of Contention Theatre); Mrs. Trotsky in All in the Timing (Focal Point Theatre); Simone the Cat in The Nerdy Girl and the Intergalactic Dog (Rascal Children’s Theatre); Sarafina in Beauty and the Beast (Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre); Sister Felicity in Suddenly Last Summer (IL. René Ruelas (Dr. Bradman) is quite pleased to be making his 9th appearance on a First Folio stage.

Favorite roles include Tom Snout/Wall in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1998), the Porter in Macbeth (2000), the Gravedigger in Hamlet and Clarence in Richard III. In February of 2009 he was at long last allowed indoors to play Ernest Friedman in Noel Coward’s Design for Living.

Nick Sandys (Charles Condomine) is an Artistic Associate at First Folio, where he has appeared in Twelfth Night (Jeff Nomination 2010), Much Ado About Nothing (Jeff Nomination 2008), Richard III, and Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed Macbeth, and designed fights for The Castle of Otranto. Other Chicagoland appearances include Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Jeff Nomination 2010), Old Times, The Real Thing (Jeff nomination 2007), Tartuffe, Arcadia, The Secret Rapture (After Dark Award 2003) (Remy Bumppo - Artistic Associate); Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Pride & Prejudice (Northlight Theatre); Oedipus Complex (Goodman); My Fair Lady (Light Opera Works); The Misanthrope (Jeff Nomination 2004--Next Theatre); as well as shows at Marriott, Chamber Opera Chicago, Lookingglass, Chicago Shakespeare, Writers’ Theatre, Drury Lane Oakbrook, among others.

Most recently Nick played Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps at Cleveland Play House and Syracuse Stage. Nick is a certified Fight Director with The Society of American Fight Directors, his choreography having been seen all over Chicagoland (Jeff Award 2008).

Paula Scrofano (Madame Arcati) has appeared at First Folio as Titania/Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and as Gertrude in Hamlet.

winter as Mary Todd Lincoln in A Civil War Christmas at Northlight Theatre. She appeared at Drury Lane Oakbrook as Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie and as Lily Garland in On the Twentieth Century (Jeff Award). Her roles at the Marriott Theatre include Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Marmee in Little Women, Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, Eva Peron in Evita (Sarah Siddons Award) and the title role in Victor/Victoria. She portrayed Desirée in A Little Night Music and Dot/Marie in Sunday in the Park with George (Sarah Siddons Award) at the Goodman Theatre. She’s performed at Court Theatre in Hay Fever, James Joyce’s ‘The Dead’ and Putting It Together (Jeff Award). She’s appeared at Steppenwolf, Chicago Shakespeare, Royal George, Skylight Opera, the Ravinia Festival and the Kennedy Center.

Michael Downey (Understudy Charles & Dr. Bradman) returns to First Folio for his second production with the company. He first worked with First Folio as the male understudy for their production of Jeeves in Bloom. Michael has also been seen locally as King Phycus in King Phycus and The Spaceman in Hey! Mr. Spaceman (Strange Tree Group); Mr Hatch in Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch! (Lifeline Theatre); and The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek (20% Theatre Company). Outside of Chicago, Michael has appeared at the Phoenix Theatre and Theatre on the Square in Indianapolis, Indiana and at Theatre South Carolina and Trustus Theatre in Columbia, South Carolina.

Kitty Mortland (u/s Madame Arcati, Edith) is excited to be involved in her first show with First Folio. She has previously been seen as Leroy in The Bad Seed: The Musical (Corn Productions) and Simone in Real Aural Talent (Corn Productions). Other credits include Floss! (Corn Productions), Soon (National Pastime Theater) and The Temp (Hobo Junction). She wrote and directed the children’s musical Dream Juice, and spends her down time as a singer/ songwriter in Chicago.

Sasha Walloch (u/s Elvira, Mrs. Bradman) is pleased to join First Folio for the first time.

Since coming to Chicago, she’s appeared as Death in the Fourth-Walsh-Awardnominated production of Blood Wedding (Oracle Theatre), and at the TCG Theatre Conference with Genesis Ensemble and The Anatomy Collective. Favorite roles outside of Chicago include Tansy in The Nerd and Jean in Funny Money (Northern Lights Playhouse), Mary Matthews in State of the Union (LexHam Theatre), and Isabella in Measure for Measure (Nightpath Theatre Co), as well as numerous cast-created works in the Twin Cities. Sasha has also appeared in The Dilemma and the new Fox TV series, The Chicago Code.

Vesely (Director) is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder (with her husband David Rice) of First Folio Theatre where last season she directed the world premieres of Will Rogers: An American Original and The Castle of Otranto, as well as the Chicago premiere of Jeeves in Bloom. This past fall she directed Richard III for Hilberry Repertory Theatre in Detroit. In 2009, she was nominated for a Jeff Award for her direction of A Moon for the Misbegotten, which was also nominated for Best Production.

Previous First Folio directing credits on the indoor stage include Design for Living, The Passion of Dracula, Driving Miss Daisy, Jeeves Intervenes, The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe, Angel Street, Private Lives, A Connecticut Yankee…, and The Importance of Being Earnest. On the outdoor summer stage Alison has directed Richard III, The Tempest (1997 & 2006), The Taming of the Shrew (1999 & 2005), Hamlet, The Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, Antigone, As You Like It, Macbeth (2001), Much Ado About Nothing (2000), Romeo and Juliet, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1998). Onstage at First Folio she has been seen as Widow Kitty in The Taming of the Shrew and Amelia in The Comedy of Errors. She has also overseen First Folio’s school touring shows, which have played to over 100,000 students in the past fourteen years. Before founding First Folio, Alison was the Classics Project Director for

Footsteps Theatre, a women’s theater company specializing in all-female productions of Shakespeare’s plays. Alison worked as the Folio Director and Dramaturge on many productions at Footsteps, including Romeo and Juliet, A Midsommer Night’s Dreame, and Macbeth. She also performed in these productions, earning an After Dark Award for the title role in their production of Macbeth.

Additionally, Alison directed Richard III for both Footsteps and Shakespeare’s Herd at the Chicago Cultural Center. Other directing credits include Real Human Dialogue, Riders to the Sea, Kiss Me Kate, and Scrooge. Alison has also served as an adjudicator for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and the Irene Ryan Awards and just completed a three-year term on the Theater Program Grants Panel for the Illinois Arts Council. She is a proud graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University.

David Rice (Stage Manager) is Executive Director and co-founder (with his wife Alison C. Vesely) of First Folio, where he has produced over 30 shows, stage managing fifteen of them. As a playwright he specializes in stage adaptations of literary works, including The Castle of Ortanto and The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe (Jeff Award Nomination for New Adaptation in 2007).

(Kinetic Theatre); and in numerous other plays and musicals, including Follies (Candlelight Dinner Playhouse), Kuni-Leml (Illinois Theatre Center), and Room Service (Bailiwick). David originated the role of Mr. Toad of Toad Hall in Doug Post’s musical version of The Wind in the Willows at the Organic Theater. Die-hard trivia fans might be interested to know that David was a 4-time winner on Jeopardy!

Noël Coward (Playwright, 1899-1973) was the ultimate British raconteur of the 20th Century, the perfect successor to Oscar Wilde as the arbiter and exemplar of taste, style and wit. In addition to being one of the greatest playwrights of the century, he was also renowned as an actor, composer, and lyricist, writing the songs for many of his productions. For over half a century, Coward’s classic bon mots have been quoted by writers and politicians in need of a clever response:“It’s discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit.” His more famous plays include Hay Fever, Private Lives, Design for Living, and Present Laughter. At the outbreak of World War II, Coward volunteered for war work, running the British propaganda office in Paris. He also worked with the Secret Service, seeking to use his influence to persuade the American public and government to help Britain. Coward won an Honorary Academy Award in 1943 for his naval film drama In Which We Serve and was knighted in 1969. In the 1950s he achieved fresh success as a cabaret performer, performing his own songs, such as “Mad Dogs and Englishman,”“London Pride, and I Went to a Marvellous Party. Coward did not publicly acknowledge his homosexuality, but it was discussed candidly after his death by biographers including Graham Payne, his long-time partner, and in Coward’s diaries and letters, published posthumously. The former Albery Theatre (originally the New Theatre) in London was renamed the Noël Coward Theatre in his honor in 2006.

Angie recently designed a production of High School Musical (that was for her kids!) at The Little Theatre on the Square, where she also designed It Had to Be You, as well as High Fidelity for Route 66 Theatre Company. She is currently working on The Woman in Black and looks forward to getting started on Romeo and Juliet, both here at First Folio.

Camden Peterson (Lighting Design) is thrilled to return to First Folio after designing Twelfth Night & Macbeth. Other Chicagoarea designs include Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune (Hubris Productions); Inherit the Whole (Mortar Theatre Co.); Lost in Yonkers (Village Players Theatre); and Scooter Thomas Makes it to the Top of the World (Team Venture Productions). She graduated from The Theatre School at DePaul University with her BFA in Lighting Design. While at TTS, she designed Urinetown (dir. Dexter Bullard), The Sugar Wife (dir.

Patrice Egleston), The Heidi Chronicles (dir.

Jane Drake Brody), and the world premiere of Isaac Holter’’s Good Worker (dir. Carlos Murillo). In addition to her work in theatre, Camden is a designer with Performance Lighting, Inc. Vicky Strei (Costume Designer) is ecstatic to be back working with her family at First Folio.

You may have enjoyed some of her past designs including The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night (2002), Much Ado About Nothing (2000), or Hamlet just to name a few. Vicky is currently the resident costume designer at Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights and teaches theatre at Dominican University in River Forest. She is also proud of her own production company Zombie Army Productions which runs Statesville Haunted Prision and The Fear at Navy Pier.

Jeri Frederickson (Asst. Stage Manager) is working with First Folio for the first time. Other Chicago credits include Stage Manager for The Water Engine: An American Fable with Theatre Seven and intern for Lookingglass Alice at Lookingglass Theatre Company.

Beth Zupec (Asst. Stage Manager) is excited to return to First Folio Theatre where she previously assistant stage managed The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe, Twelfth Night and Jeeves in Bloom. Previous Chicago credits include stage manager/assistant director for Apocalypso (Point of Contention) stage manager for The Wind in the Willows (City Lit) The Miracle Worker (Village Players Theatre) assis-

tant stage manager for The Marriage of Bette and Boo (Village Players) and stage manager intern for Funk It Up About Nothin’ and Willy Wonka (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre). Beth also served as the casting intern at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and will be assistant stage managing One Flea Spare with Eclipse Theatre Company this spring. Beth is a graduate of the University of Kansas where some of her credits include Twelfth Night, A Flea in Her Ear, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and In Darfur.

Barbara Zahora (Dialect Coach) has served as dialect coach on several Chicago area productions, including Carmilla (WildClaw Theatre), The Weir (Seanachai Theatre), Henry V and Love’s Labour’s Lost (Lakeside Shakespeare), The Autumn Garden (Eclipse Theatre), The Collector (LiveWire Theatre), Toys in the Attic (Blindfaith Theatre), The Glass Menagerie (New World Repertory Theatre), Sex in the Title (First Street Playhouse) and Smash (Oakton Community College. She holds an M.F.A. in Theatre Performance from Roosevelt University (where she also teaches part-time), is the current Associate Artistic Director for the Shakespeare Project of Chicago, and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.

A R T I S T I C A S S O C I AT E S U P DAT E Michael F. Goldberg is currently working on a new show centering on the lighting of Michael McNamara and the music of Pantera. He has also been very busy chauffeuring his boys to soccer, basketball and hockey practices/games this winter as well as trying to maintain a backyard ice rink.

Michael is very much looking forward to First Folio’s upcoming summer 2012 project…which he can’t talk about because it has not been officially announced.

Christian Gray recently played Jacob Marley, Topper, and the Undertaker in A Christmas Carol at Drury Lane Oakbrook.

He is currently playing Ben Gordon in Paradise Lost with ShawChicago. He will return to First Folio this summer to play Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet.

Sean Grennan returned to the boards at the American Heartland Theatre last fall in The Love List. His self-delusion as a writer did not respond to medication so he is currently at work on two new plays as well as musical projects with composer, David 8 First Folio Theatre

Kreppel. His new show Beer for Breakfast will premiere in the ‘11-’12 season at the American Heartland Theatre in Kansas City.

His previous work, Married Alive!, A Dog’s Life, and Another Night Before Christmas, written with composer Leah Okimoto, have been produced all over the country and Canada and are published with Playscripts Inc. He’s very pleased that the latter, Another Night... will bow at Chicago’s Theatre at the Center in the holiday season of ‘11 under the direction of Bill Pullinsi. Sean looks forward to the next opportunity to come and play in the grass with his excellent friends at First Folio!

Elsa Hiltner is currently taking a leave of absence from First Folio while she spends the next year in Syria, where she and her husband are studying Arabic culture.

Michael Keefe is currently playing Wicked, this time at the Cadillac palace Theatre, playing to sold-out crowds – again. During the day, he can be found in the pit at Drury Lane Oak Brook, where he is doing synth

Melanie Keller – See Cast Biography Kevin McKillip will be seen in Intimate Apparel at the Illinois Theatre Center through Feb. 13th, and will be appearing at the Enterprise Convention in Orlando at the end of February. On March 6th the Princeton Theater in Princeton IL, will feature Kevin in Will Rogers: An American Original, and Kevin will also be appearing in The Woman in Black with First Folio this spring.

He continues his ongoing work with The Big Apple Circus Clown Unit.

Michael McNamara – Since designing the lights for this fall’s Edgar Allen Poe, Michael has lit The Beaux Stratagem at Marquette University in Milwaukee and A Very Phoenix Xmas 5: Regifted at the Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis. Upcoming projects include Porgy and Bess at the Atlanta Opera (associate designer), One Flea Spare with Eclipse in Chicago and, of course, First Folio’s The Woman in Black. He continues as the head of lighting at Purdue University.
