The Cabaret Café features The Rhode Sisters on February 10 & 11 and Voce de America on March 23 & 24, all in an intimate cabaret setting with dinner prepared by Chef Brian Shoemake. Dinner and show packages are a great deal! The OAC Main Stage Series will feature Girsa, an all female, award winning Irish band from Boston on St. Patrick’s Day night, a great way to plan your emerald evening. Finally, the school district performances of Rabbit Hole, the OHS student directed play March 1-3 and Annie, Jr., March 8-10 by Nature Hill Middle School promise to be outstanding. BIOGR APHIES Roza Borisova A native of LoshkarOla, Russia, Roza Borisova began studies on the cello at the age of seven. After receiving her B.A. in Music Performance from the Ioshkar-Ola State Music College, she moved to Moscow where she earned a M.M. in Performance Pedagogy and a D.M.A. in String Quartet Performance from the Russian State Academy of Music (formerly Gnesin’s Institute) in Moscow. In 1989 Ms. Borisova was selected to be the cellist of the Veronika String Quartet (newly formed by Valentine Berlinsky, cellist of the Borodin String Quartet). The Quartet’s international tours resulted in numerous prizes including the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the Shostakovich String Quartet Competition, and the Russian National Competition. As an award of the Shostakovich Competition, in 1993 the Quartet was invited to study with the Fine Arts Quartet at the University of Wisconsin/ Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and relocated to the U.S. Ms. Borisova served as Artist-inResidence and graduate teaching assistant at various institutions in Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, and Colorado and earned a second M.M. in Music Performance. As part of the Veronika String Quart, Ms. Borisova performed regularly as cellist with various symphony orchestras and at many festivals and institutes around the world including the Steans Institute for Young Artists at Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Second Jerusalem Chamber Music Encounters in Israel, the BrittenPears School of Music in England, and the Lancaster Music Festival in Ohio. She continues to perform with symphony orchestras including the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, Green Bay, WI, and the Woodstock Mozart Festival Orchestra, Woodstock, IL. She takes pleasure in teaching aspiring cellists and has taught at several major music institutions in the U.S. Currently she is on the faculty of Lawrence Academy of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Lynne Carlstein is a graduate of UWWhitewater with a Bachelor of Music in Education and Vocal Performance. Awards for her singing include two first place awards from the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee, first place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition, first place in the National Federation of Music Clubs district and regional competitions, and finalist at the 1985 Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Lynne has appeared as soloist and ensemble member with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Milwaukee Chamber Singers, and Vocal Arts Consort, and has performed with Skylight Opera Theatre. Lynne was a featured artist in the Indianapolis Vocal Arts Series in 1997. In April of 1999, Lynne traveled to Austria, singing a concert series featuring Copland songs accompanied by harpist Jean Kahn. In 1993 Lynne received a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Integrated Arts Curriculum from UW - Milwaukee. Lynne specializes in workshops and active demonstrations that show classroom teachers how to use the Arts to improve student achievement, making learning successful for all types of learners. A featured writer for Music Express! magazine, Lynne has also given workshops in choral music in Milwaukee and Montana. A music specialist for 29 years, Lynne spent 18 of those years with Milwaukee Public Schools where she won the Ameritech Teacher Recognition Award and was honored as Outstanding Elementary Music Educator by the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee. Lynne currently teaches General and Choral Music at Silver Lake Intermediate School in Oconomowoc. B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) Mark Carlstein is a life-long Wisconsinite and 1979 graduate of UW– Whitewater. He has been involved in the areas of vocal and instrumental accompanying and as an orchestral pianist throughout Wisconsin. As vocal accompanist, Mark twice participated in the International Festival of the Art Song hosted by UW–Milwaukee. There he worked with renowned art song performers, including Gérard Souzay, Elly Ameling and Dalton Baldwin. For over a decade Mark was Company Pianist for the Milwaukee Ballet. In that capacity, he worked closely with choreographers, dancers, and conductors, and was involved extensively in the premier of Virgin Forest, choreographed by Margo Sappington to music by Paul Schwartz.

As free-lance artist in the Milwaukee area, Mark has also worked with the Skylight Opera Theatre, Theater X, Wisconsin Philharmonic, Festival City Symphony, Kenosha Symphony and Knightwind Ensemble. In Theater X’s production of Good, he appeared as the onstage pianist throughout the entire show. He performed tangos with the Milwaukee Tango Ensemble at Alverno College, and in 1999 Mark was featured pianist with the Milwaukee Ballet in Who Cares?, Balanchine’s ballet set to selections from the Gershwin Songbook. Mark also appeared on the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center’s 2004-05 Cabaret Series. He’s still seen periodically in the pit at the Skylight. Since 1998 Mark has been a Keyboard Publications Editor for Hal Leonard Corporation, and since 2000 he has been the pianist for Strings of the Heart, a family of Russian violinists. Their enormous repertoire spans Lully to Lloyd Webber and includes everything from concerti to miniatures. Since 2000 Mark has lived in Oconomowoc. He and wife Lynne—music teacher

B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) at Silver Lake Intermediate and private voice teacher—have two children: Julie, a certified massage therapist, now married; and Benjamin, an Oconomowoc H.S. senior who loves theatre, jazz, Chopin, and working out. Maria Castello graduated from the National School of Dance in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has also studied at the Theater Municipal General in San Martin. She is a Certified Movement Analyst in the Laban/ Bartenieff System. Maria started dancing tango in 1980 when she joined the Argentina Folk Ballet directed by Nora and Raul Dinzelbacher, performing with this folklore-tango company in Argentina, Brazil and U.S.A. until 1988. She has studied with Pepito Avellanada and Suzuki de Souza. Since 1997 she has been studying under the direction of Mingo Pugliese and Rodolfo Dinzel.

Maria has choreographed and danced tango in collaboration with many music ensembles such as Musica Camerata, Tangando and Quartango from Montreal. Maria has been dancing, choreographing and teaching for more than 25 years. In her teaching she integrates her artistic and scientific knowledge about movement, her cultural background and her love for dance. Pasquale Laurino is celebrating over 30 years as a leading violinist������������ and conductor. Maestro Laurino is the artistic director and conductor of the Racine Symphony Orchestra, his guest conducting appearances include the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Elmhurst Choral Union, Sheboygan Symphony, Marion Philharmonic, Highland Park Strings and the Skokie Valley Symphony. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and trained as a violinist and conductor at the University of

Wisconsin-Madison and Indiana University, his principal teachers were Thomas Moore and Franco Gulli, Pasquale Laurino began his professional career in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he often performs with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and as concertmaster of the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, the Skylight Opera Theatre, and several community ensembles. It was in his capacity as concertmaster of the Milwaukee Opera Company that he was first approached to conduct his first opera, I Pagliacci. This “trial by fire” led to an invitation by John David Anello to conduct the popular Music Under the Stars series. For several years, Mr. Laurino was the conductor and later music director of some of the most important works in the symphonic, popular, musical theater and fully staged opera productions. He served as the artistic director for five years of the chamber orchestra Sinfonia Concertante where he led concerts from the concertmaster position. He was appointed conductor and artistic director of the Concord Chamber Orchestra from 1987-92. Maestro Laurino’s artistic home for over two decades has been the Skylight Opera Theatre where he has conducted everything from the bel canto masterworks La Cenerentola, I Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Pasquale, The Abduction from the Seraglio, Cosi fan Tutte and Lucia di Lammermoor to La Boheme and The King and I. In 2002, the Copland opera The Tender Land appeared on PBS. In 2004 he conducted the premiere production of Rachel Portman’s The Little Prince directed by Francesca Zambello and has appeared on stage as the Fiddler in Fiddler on the Roof. Mr. Laurino is the associate conductor of the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra, having just completed a critically acclaimed production of Coppelia, he regularly conducts the popular Nutcracker. In 2010, he conducted the world premeire of the resoundingly successful Peter Pan. Long committed to string pedagogy, he has been on the faculty of Carroll College, the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and the University of WI- Fox Valley as conductor, violin/viola teacher and as a chamber music coach. Maestro Laurino currently resides in Chicago where he is a conductor with L’Opera Piccola and guest conductor of Light Opera Works and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra. He plays baroque violin in Ars Antiqua and Haydn on the Lake. Mr. Laurino has served as concertmaster

for the Northwest Indiana Symphony, DuPage Opera and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Laurino has participated in numerous festivals in Europe and the States including the Macerata Opera and Festivale della Valle d’Itria in Italy and the Gent Opera Festival in Belgium. In 2005 he joined the faculty of the Rocky Ridge Music Festival as conductor and violinist. In the spring of 2011, Mr. Laurino appeared as the solo violinist in a musical,“A Minister’s Wife” at Lincoln Center Theatre in New York City. Jacques Saint-Cyr obtained a B. A. in Music Education from University of Quebec in Montreal and a M.A. in flute performance from the University of Montreal under the direction of Lise Daoust. Two-time recipient of a grant from the French Government, Jacques Saint-Cyr studied in Paris with Mr. Raymond Guiot and the baroque flute with Jean-Christoph Frish. He became involved with Tango in 1993. His major influences are Suzuki and Pepito Avellaneda with whom he studied in 1995, Rodolfo Dinzel and Mingo Pugliese with whom he has been studying each summer in Buenos Aires since 1997. From 1996 to 2003, Jacques Saint-Cyr taught, choreographed and performed at La Tangueria in Montreal, one of the first and most renowned schools dedicated to Argentine tango. Jacques has worked as a guest teacher in many cities across North America including Quebec, Chicoutimi, Ottawa, Washington, and ChampaignUrbana, Illinois. In 2001, he participated in the production of the film Macadam Tango that has been presented on television by Radio-Canada and TV5 (the international French television network). Since 1999 Jacques SaintCyr has been collaborating with Argentinean pianist Victor Simon. Together, they have developed a repertoire that includes Argentinean Tango and Latin American music. Jacques teaches flute and music at Rock Valley College and the Rockford College Music Academy.

B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) Stas Venglevski Stas Venglevski is a bayan accordion virtuoso, performing with symphonies internationally, the Milwaukee Pops Orchestra led by Doc Severinsen, has appeared with Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and numerous venues far and near. His

artistry, dazzling technical command, and sensitivity have brought Stas, a native of the Republic of Moldova, part of the former Soviet Union, world-wide acclaim. With ten recordings to his credit he has served as President of the prestigious International Accordionists and Teachers Guild. A lover of all types of music, Stas is the consumate entertainer adding his own all-world flavor to the sound of Leahys Luck.
