Outdoor stages in Wisconsin and Illinois offer a magical experience Spring Green, Wis. “…”APT decisively established itself as one of America’s most ambitious and consistently impressive classical summer festivals.” -Terry Teachout, The Wall Street Journal

American Players Theatre is a professional repertory theater devoted to the great and future classics. It was founded in 1979 and continues to be one of the most popular outdoor classical theaters in the nation. APT is located in Spring Green, Wis., on 110 acres of hilly woods and meadows above the Wisconsin River. The outdoor amphitheater stands within a natural hollow atop an oak-wooded hill, offering 1,148 comfortably cushioned seats under the sky and stars. In 2009, APT opened the indoor Touchstone Theatre, offering a different type of play and experience. APT’s 2013 season runs June 8 through October 20 and offers: William Shakespeare’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” and “Hamlet,” W. Somerset Maugham’s “Too Many Husbands” (aka “Home and Beauty”), Tom Stoppard’s “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” and “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller on the Up-the-Hill stage. Mequon, Wis. Gathering on the Green, in Mequon, Wis., has become Southeastern Wisconsin’s premier summer spot to enjoy the performing arts. Set in scenic Mequon Rotary Park, the two-day festival runs July 12 and 13 and offers daytime activities for children, evening concerts under the stars, with musical fireworks as the grand finale. On July 12, you’ll be on your feet to all the music from “Mamma Mia” and more with the original musicians from ABBA, Arrival from Sweden. The group has toured with the original ABBA musicians to over 35 nations and appeared in several TV and radio shows all over the world since 1995. July 13 is Family Day in the park. The July 13 concert features The von Trapps, the grandchildren of Werner von Trapp, the youngest son of the famous singing family whose story captivated the world in the beloved musical “The Sound of Music.” They’ll perform folk and classical songs from various European and American traditions, as well as timeless pieces to sing along with “The Sound of Music.” In the morning, families can join the Family 5K annual “Run on the Green.” Runners follow a route entirely within Mequon Rotary Park.
