ETHAN BORTNICK Ethan Bortnick is taking the entertainment world by storm with an amazing talent well beyond his years. The young pianist and composer seamlessly brings to life some of music’s most well known classics and biggest hits from every era and genre, entertaining crowds with a repertoire that spans from Bach and Mozart to disco, jazz, pop and rock songs. Witness the musical virtuosity of Ethan Bortnick as he delivers a trip through music’s rich history and introduces some of his very own compositions, including the entertaining and inspiring stories behind his original songs. As motivating as they are entertaining, his concerts captivate both kids and adults while reminding the audience that “anything is possible.” This is a rare opportunity to experience a uniquely gifted musician and entertainer in a show that’s magical and inspiring for all ages!

ETHAN BORTNICK BIOGR APHY At only nine years old, Ethan Bortnick is already achieving accomplishments that many musicians work toward for an entire career. Ethan learned to play the piano at the early age of three by mimicking any music he would hear, whether on the radio or while listening to the popular “Baby Einstein” series. With a talent well beyond his years and the ability to play almost any song by ear, he has developed a repertoire spanning from classical masterpieces to timeless jazz standards to current chart-toppers. This talent includes the outstanding ability to compose his own music, which he began doing at the age of five.

Ethan appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in May of 2007, making his national television debut. Since then, he has returned to the show three times as Leno’s guest, including an appearance in May 2009 where he presented Jay with a special gift – a song titled “The King of Late Night” which Ethan wrote as a tribute to the talk show host. He has appeared on national shows on every major network including “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Good Morning America,”“The Martha Stewart Show” and “Yo Gabba Gabba.”

Appearing in front of audiences as large as 20,000 people, Ethan has performed in concerts and televised specials both nationally and internationally. He made his concert stage debut in May 2007 opening for Nelly Furtado in Hollywood, Fla. after meeting her on the set of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Ethan has 4 North Central College

taken the stage with both the Orlando and Naples Philharmonic Orchestras, making him the youngest piano soloist to ever perform with these ensembles.

Through concert and charity events, he has shared the stage with legendary artists including Elton John, Natalie Cole, Smokey Robinson, Beyoncé, Reba McEntire and many more.

On February 1, 2010, Ethan joined music’s biggest names as the youngest member of the all-star “We Are the World 25 for Haiti” line up. Produced

by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, the track featured superstars including Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Kanye West and Miley Cyrus and made its debut during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Ethan also recently earned the distinction of being the youngest musician to be endorsed by premier instrument manufacturer Gibson Guitar/Baldwin Piano.

Ethan has also made a name for himself as one of the world’s youngest philanthropists, using his talent to express his desire to help people, especially children. By performing, inspiring and educating, he has helped raise millions of dollars for charities around the world. These charities include the Miami Children’s Hospital, the Boys & Girls Club, the American Heart Association, the Starkey Hearing Foundation and many others. Ethan also made a special appearance at Muhammad Ali’s “Celebrity Fight Night” in March 2009 to

As part of the event, Ethan honored the legendary boxer with a song titled “The Champ” that he wrote especially for Ali. The song led to an impromptu onstage sing-along featuring such high profile guests as Josh Groban, David Foster and Forrest Whitaker.

In August 2010, Ethan achieved the honor of being one of the youngest musicians with a PBS concert special when “Ethan Bortnick and His Musical Time Machine” aired nationally on the network. Recorded at the historic El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, the special features Ethan performing musical classics from all eras and in-

cludes special guest appearances by legendary artists such as Arturo Sandoval and Gloria Gaynor. The concert special was released on CD/DVD on October 26th through Razor & Tie. Ethan will take his show on the road in early 2011, lighting up the stage in his first national headlining tour. Like his PBS special, the tour will feature Ethan bringing some of music’s biggest hits and classics to life for crowds both young and old in over 20 cities across the country. While on tour, Ethan will also entertain the crowd with some of his own compositions while sharing the inspirational stories behind each piece.

C H I C AG O S I N F O N I E T TA Maestro Paul Freeman founded the Chicago Sinfonietta in 1987 in response to the lack of opportunity for minority classical musicians, composers, and soloists. Twenty-four seasons later, the Chicago Sinfonietta remains as the national model and true trailblazer for promoting diversity and inclusiveness in orchestral music.

The Chicago Sinfonietta has a proud history of having enriched the cultural, educational, and social quality of life in Chicago, while gaining significant recognition on the national and international stage. Committed to promoting diversity and inclusiveness in classical music, the Sinfonietta performs at Chicago’s Symphony Center, Lund Auditorium at Dominican University, Wentz Concert Hall at North Central College, and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance at Millennium Park. A 2007 survey of major orchestras revealed that the Chicago Sinfonietta is the most diverse professional orchestra in the United States.

Paul Freeman, Music Director/Conductor Maestro Paul Freeman is in his 24th season as Music Director of the Chicago Sinfonietta, a post he has held since his founding of the orchestra in 1987.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, Maestro Freeman has established himself as one of America’s leading conductors. In 1996, he was appointed music director and chief conductor of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague, a position he held simultaneously with Chicago Sinfonietta till 2009.

From 1979 to 1989, he served as music director of the Victoria Symphony in

Canada, principal guest conductor of the Helsinki Philharmonic in Finland, associate conductor of the Dallas and Detroit Symphony Orchestras, and music director of the Opera Theatre of Rochester, New York.

The December 2000 issue of Fanfare magazine proclaimed Maestro Freeman “one of the finest conductors which our nation has produced.”

Leslie B. Dunner, Guest Conductor One of the premier American conductors of his generation, Leslie B. Dunner enjoys an international career, distinguished by the breadth of his repertoire as well as his electrifying and critically lauded performances.

Following a summer that included programs with South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, his current season includes return engagements with California’s Symphony Silicon Valley and the Chicago Sinfonietta, debuts with the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra and Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, and continuing as the Principal Conductor of the Louisville Ballet.

A native New Yorker, Leslie B. Dunner holds advanced degrees in music from the University of Cincinnati’s CollegeConservatory of Music, Queens College in New York City and the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music.

He serves on the advisory boards of Houston’s Opera Vista, World Artist Experience in Annapolis and the International Jordania Conducting Competition in Chattanooga.

Reginald R. Robinson, piano Reginald R. Robinson, born and raised in Chicago, is a noted pianist/composer of semi-classical, ragtime, Latin American and early jazz & blues styles. He is also an educator on ragtime music

across the U.S. He has recorded four CDs for the Delmark label.

In 2004, Reginald received a fellowship grant from the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for his innovation in ragtime music. Reginald released his fourth album “Man Out of Time” in 2006 and in the summer of 2007, he performed with Orbert Davis who arranged and conducted his Chicago Jazz Philharmonic Orchestra’s historical performance of “Concerto for a Genius” that consisted of four of Reginald’s original compositions from “Man Out of Time” arranged for full orchestra.

Reginald’s latest music project called “Reflections” features audio and visual performances of music that he composed over the last twenty years.

Between recording, performing and composing, Reginald is at work on his most ambitious project, a documentary film about the history and development of ragtime music Lisa Daltrius, soprano With a radiant voice of beauty, power, nuance and musicality, as well as a demanding stage presence, Lisa Daltrius is poised for a major career worldwide. In her professional operatic debut as Tosca, The New York Times said, “… the very image of Tosca... she exuded an intangible electricity, that charge that comes across to the audience when something is really happening onstage.”

Ms. Daltrius has received awards and recognition from the NJ State Opera Vocal competition, the Joy of Singing competition, The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, The Liederkranz International Vocal Competition and the New York Vocal Artists Competition. She is also a grantee of the Singer’s Development Fund in NYC and the William Matthews Sullivan Foundation.

Chauncey Packer, tenor American tenor Chauncey Packer is an exciting talent on the stages of opera houses in Europe and the United States. Mr. Packer is one of the most in-demand artists for his captivating portrayal of Sportin’ Life in “Porgy and Bess.” Following his debut of this role with Atlanta Opera, a reviewer proclaimed, “Here Chauncey Packer was the complete entertainer” (The Atlanta Journal). He will reprise the role with the company again in the 2010-2011 season. Last season, he made his San Francisco Opera debut as Sportin’ Life to rave reviews, and he has also performed the role with Mobile Opera, Opera Grand Rapids, Tulsa Opera and this season in many major European cities.

Chauncey Packer is originally from southern Alabama where he received his undergraduate degree from University of Mobile and his master’s degree in music from University of New Orleans where he makes his home.

Donnie Ray Albert, baritone Donnie Ray Albert is a regular guest of opera companies and symphony orchestras around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera, plus numerous appearances with Opera Pacific, Houston Grand Opera, Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, Dallas Opera, Atlanta Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Minnesota Opera, Utah Opera, and the opera companies of New Orleans, Baltimore, Columbus, Kansas City, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Manitoba, and Vancouver. He has also appeared with several opera companies in Europe, Asia, and South America.

Donnie Ray Albert was born in Louisiana. He earned a Bachelor of Music Degree at Louisiana State University and a Master of Music Degree from Southern 12 North Central College

Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Albert may be heard on RCA’s Grammy® Award and Grand Prix du Disque winning recording of “Porgy and Bess,” NOW’s recording of “The Horse I Ride Has Wings” with David Garvey on piano, EMI’s “Frühlingsbegräbnis” and “Eine Florentinesche Tragodie” by Zemlinsky conducted by James Conlon, and Simon Sargon’s “A Clear Midnight”on the Gasparo label.

Chicago Community Chorus led by Dr. Keith Hampton, Artistic Director Keith Hampton is currently the Director of Choral Activities at Gary Comer College Prep, A Campus of Noble Street Charter School and the Director of Music Ministries and Organist at the Park Manor Christian Church, in Chicago. Dr. Hampton is very active as a conductor, an organ soloist, and an accompanist and is in constant demand as a workshop clinician. He has guest-conducted the Rhode Island All-State Chorus, American Choral Directors Association’s Eastern Division High School Honor’s Choir, Baltimore All-County High School Chorus and the Pennsylvania Region I and Region VI High School Choirs.

Dr. Hampton earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Westminster Choir College, a Master of Arts Degree from Marywood University and a Doctor of Music Degree in Church Music from Northwestern University.

Founded on August 18, 2003, the Chicago Community Chorus is comprised of singers from all walks of life and varying levels of musical experience.

The chorus actively seeks to reflect the diversity of Chicago by the involvement of singers from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and has a children’s choir called The Voices of the Future. The chorus presents at least three performances each year in a variety of venues.

It performs a wide variety of repertoire that includes choral literature by the great composers from the 15th century to the present, spirituals, gospel music, jazz, folk music and show tunes.

C H I C AG O C H A M B E R M U S I C I A N S Joseph Genualdi, Artistic Director Founded in 1986, the Grammy®-nominated Chicago Chamber Musicians (CCM) enjoys an outstanding reputation for artistic excellence and strong commitment to community service.

“One of the indispensables of classical music in Chicago” (Chicago Tribune), and named 2007 Chamber Ensemble of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, CCM’s ensemble of 15 world-class artists, including resident group CCM, has toured extensively and has developed an international reputation for fresh, intimate and nuanced performances by musicians who consistently work together as an ensemble.

CCM’s diverse musical programs of “impressive skill and palpable involvement” (The New York Times) include a six-concert subscription series, an award-winning contemporary chamber music series, annual Family Concerts and a wide range of community initiatives including: music residencies in Chicago public schools, the Chamber Music Professional Development Program mentoring young professional chamber ensembles, performances in senior homes and community centers, and the free First Monday concerts at the Chicago Cultural Center. Regularly heard on WFMT and APM’s “Performance Today,” CCM broadcasts a nationally syndicated radio series through the WFMT Radio Network in spring.

CCM has received two prestigious ASCAP/Chamber Music America Awards for Adventurous Programming and an ABBY Award for Arts Management Excellence from the Arts and Business Council of Chicago. The ensemble has commissioned 17 works, and CCM’s recording catalog includes its Grammy-finalist “Chamber Works for Winds and Strings” by Mozart on Summit and “John Harbison: Chamber Music” on Naxos.

SPIDER SALOFF Spider Saloff remains one of the finest jazz vocalists working in this or any other city. The New York Times calls her, “Slyly sophisticated, easily accessible, Saloff stands as a kind of ideal.” Co-star and co-creator of the internationally syndicated Public Radio series “Words and Music” on PBS, Spider Saloff has received critical acclaim nationally and internationally. She is not only an aficionado of Gershwin and the Great American Songbook, she is also a songwriter and playwright who also tours a one-woman musical comedy entitled “The Roar of the Butterfly” which is touring performing arts centers around the country in 2011-2012.

As one of the rare officially sanctioned acts of the Gershwin Centennial, her concert, “Spider Saloff Sings Gershwin,” has been touring the U.S. since 1996 and headlined the St. Petersburg Gershwin Festival in Russia (the birthplace of Gershwin’s ancestors), including performances in the Gershwin family home. PROFILES Artistic Director Frank Chaves (Miami, Fla.) joined the company in 1993 as Associate Director, became Co-Artistic Director with Sherry Zunker in 1994, and in May 2001, Mr. Chaves assumed sole artistic directorship of River North Chicago.

Since then, he has created over 20 works in the Company’s repertoire.

An international choreographer and teacher, Mr. Chaves has created numerous works for River North Chicago and other companies including Spectrum Dance Theatre, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Point Park College for the Performing Arts, Barat Repertory Dance Company, Kaleidoscope Dancers, Pori Dance Company (Finland), and Ballet Pacifica’s

Choreographer’s Workshop. Mr. Chaves’ theatrical commissions include work for Steppenwolf Theatre and the Cleveland Playhouse. As a performer, Mr. Chaves has danced with Ballet Concerto of Miami, New York’s Ballet Hispanico, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, and six years with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. In 2000, Mr. Chaves received a Ruth Page Dance Achievement Award for “Mission,” co-created with Sherry Zunker, Co-Artistic Director Emerita of River North Chicago, in honor of the Company’s 10th anniversary and; in 2008, he was awarded a Choo-San Goh award for choreography from the Choo-San Goh & H. Robert Magee Foundation for “Tuscan Rift.” He is also an Adjunct Professor of Dance for North Central College 23

Executive Director Gail Kalver (Chicago, Ill.) is an arts management consultant and project manager, whose client roster has included the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, Chicago Human Rhythm Project, Concert Dance, Inc., Dance Affiliates of Philadelphia, Ensemble Español, The Grant Park Music Festival, and the 2007 Chicago Dancing Festival. Previously, she served as Executive Director of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago for 23 years; Associate Manager of the Ravinia Festival for eight years; and, was an active freelance clarinetist prior to her arts management work. Kalver serves on the boards of the Arts & Business Council of Chicago, Audience Architects (home of SeeChicagoDance. com and TakeChicagoDance.com), Chicago Dancers United (Dance for Life), and Northshore Concert Band; and, on the Advisory Boards of Chicago Human Rhythm Project, Child’s Play Touring Company, Ensemble Español and Project Bandaloop. Kalver is the recipient of the 1988 Ruth Page Award for Service to the Field, the Arts & Business Council of Chicago’s 2003 ABBY Award for Arts Management Excellence and the 2007 Ruth Page Award for Lifetime Service. She was also recognized by Today’s Chicago Woman as one of 100 women making a difference in Chicago. Kalver is thrilled to be reuniting with Frank Chaves after many fun-filled and exciting years together at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

Rehearsal Director Mari Jo Irbe (LaGrange, Ill.) is an accomplished performer, choreographer, and teacher. She has been a featured performer with River North Chicago Dance Company for

15 years, and became the Company’s Rehearsal Director in 2002. Mari Jo also danced with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and toured with Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theatre. In 2001, Mari Jo received the Ruth Page “Chicago and Music Alliance Dance Achievement Award.” From August 2001 to April 2002, Mari Jo danced for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’ “Adventure of the Seas” production cast, and continues her work with Royal Caribbean as an auditioner and rehearsal choreographer for new production casts. She also serves the Chicago dance community as a volunteer, dancer, and committee chairperson for “Dance for Life.” While continuing to teach and perform throughout the metropolitan area and the United States, she currently serves on the faculty at Loyola University of Chicago’s new dance department.

Assistant to the Artistic Director Sara Bibik (Manitowoc, Wis.) is a founding member of River North Chicago Dance Company and spent ten years as a performer with the company. She is honored to have received a prestigious Ruth Page Award for “A Season of Outstanding Dancing” with River North Chicago in 1996. Her current position with the company allows her to teach, coach, and help dancers find their own joy and fulfillment. She serves as guest faculty for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and at such renowned venues as the Lou Conte Dance Studio, Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, and the Virginia School of the Arts, where she is honored to have been the 1998 commencement speaker. There is an abundance of laughter and love in her life thanks to her wonderful husband, Jeff; daughter, Zoe; and son, Jake.

R I V E R N O R T H C H I C AG O DA N C E C O M PA N Y M E M B E R S Brittany Blumer (Whittier, Calif.) credits her initial training to Tempe Dance Academy, under the direction of Wanda Manville, and to The School of Ballet Arizona, under the direction of Kee-Juan Han. Ms. Blumer graduated Valedictorian at The New School for the Arts in Scottsdale, Ariz. and then relocated to Chicago to join River North in the fall of 1998. A company member for eight seasons, Brittany left RNCDC in 2007 and spent a year with Eisenhower Dance Ensemble in Rochester, Minn. and continued training with the Ruth Page Center for Dance and the Lou Conte Dance Studio in Chicago. Now, Brittany is ecstatic and deeply grateful to be coming home to River North Chicago for her ninth season.

Hanna Brictson (Elgin, Ill.) is a graduate of Larkin H.S.’s performing arts academy. She has been the recipient of many scholarships, including those from Point Park University, Western Michigan University, and San Francisco’s ODC intensive.

She has trained extensively in the Chicagoland area, and considers the artists she has worked under as some of the most influential people of her life. Hanna is grateful to be a part of River North Chicago, which she has called home since 2004. She would like to thank her parents for letting her follow her dream, and her incredible friends and co-workers that continue to inspire her with their endless talent and love.

Kelly Michael Brunk (Kansas City, Mo.) trained at Priscilla and Dana’s School of Dance and the Kansas City Ballet. In 2008, he graduated with honors from New York University. While in college, he studied abroad at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance in Austria and, the following year, performed in Vietnam. He has worked for GroundWorks Dance Theater (Cleveland), Doug Elkins and Friends (New York), and Cherylyn Lavagnino

Dance (New York). Brunk has performed in industrials in Las Vegas, AIDS benefits in New York, and has choreographed many concert and competition dance works throughout the nation.

Clayton Cross (Midland, Texas) received his training from La Petite Dance Co., Coleman Academy, and Midland Community Theatre. He graduated in 2002 with a B.F.A. in ballet and modern dance from Texas Christian University. Clayton performed in summer stock productions as well as in community theater in such roles as Don Lockwood in “Singin’ in the Rain,” Riff in “West Side Story,” and the wedding singer in “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding.”

Clayton apprenticed with River North Chicago for two summers and for the 2003-2004 season; he is thrilled to be performing with the Company for his seventh season.

Christian Denice (Los Angeles, Calif.) received his dance training at Bobbie’s School of Performing Arts under Mandy Moore, Alex Little, Nikki Blakeslee, Nick Lazarrini, and Nicole Harlan. He has had the honor of assisting Mandy Moore and Dee Caspary with many projects, intensives, and shows. He also has toured as an assistant and demonstrator with JUMP Dance Convention and New York City Dance Alliance. His film credits include “A Time for Dancing,” Disney’s “High School Musical 2,” and MTV’s “The American Mall.” Prior to joining River North, Christian was a member of Odyssey Dance Theatre in Salt Lake City, training under Bonnie Story and Derryl Yeager.

Christian has the privilege of teaching and choreographing throughout the country, and recently found residence with Center Stage Performing Arts Company in Orem, Utah. He feels blessed to be able to share his passion in so many ways and is incredibly excited to be with River North Chicago for his third season. Christian is so thankful for all the love and support from his family, friends, and fellow dancers.

Brandon DiCriscio (Wilmington, Del.) is in his fourth season with River North Chicago. Growing up, he danced at the Anna Marie Dance Studio in Wilmington, Del. Brandon has a B.A. in Dance from Point Park University. He has had the privilege of performing works by Agnes De Mille, George Balanchine, Edgar Zendejas, Doug Varone, Ron De Jesus, Alan Hineline, Lauri Stallings, Sherry Zunker, Harrison McEldowney, Kevin Iega Jeff, Daniel Ezralow, Monique Haley, and Frank Chaves. He was an apprentice with RNCDC for two summers before joining the company in 2007. He also has an inspired passion for teaching and choreographing.

Currently he is on faculty at the North Shore School of Dance in Highland Park, Ill. and is the choreographer for CenterStage in Lake Forest, Ill. Michael Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a B.F.A. in Dance, under the direction of Jory Hancock. He received much of his training from Colorado Jazz Dance Company in Colorado Springs and has also attended several summer intensives at the American Academy of Ballet. Michael has appeared as a guest performer with Mid-Atlantic Ballet and Elements Contemporary Ballet. Michael is in his third season with River North and would like to thank his family and friends for their unconditional support.

Lauren Kias (Greenwood, Ind.) began her training at the Dance Refinery in Indianapolis, Ind. While attending Center Grove High School, Lauren was invited to participate in Butler University’s early admissions program for gifted and talented students. Upon graduation from high school, she continued her education at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. After two years at CCM, Lauren transferred to Butler University and joined Butler Ballet. Lauren has performed soloist and corps de ballet roles in various productions, and was also featured in 26 North Central College

the Indianapolis Opera’s production of “Rigoletto.” Upon moving to Chicago, Lauren worked with companies such as the Civic Ballet of Chicago, Ballet Legere, and Inside Chicago Dance. In 2005, Lauren was an ensemble member in the Radio City Rockettes’“Radio City Christmas Spectacular.” After two years as an apprentice with River North Chicago, Lauren is thrilled to be in her fourth season as a company member.

Lizzie MacKenzie (Toronto, Ontario) Enjoying dancing more than ever, Lizzie is in her sixth season with River North Chicago Dance Company. On the side, she continues to cultivate her love of educating young artists as Founder and Artistic Director of Extensions Dance Company, a Chicago-based not-for-profit youth dance company committed to creating well-rounded, free-thinking artists. She spent four years with Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and returns to the Chicago Symphony as a principal dancer each year in their production of “Welcome Yule” under the direction of Harrison McEldowney.

She is on faculty at Visceral Dance Center in Chicago where she teaches contemporary jazz and ballet and also enjoys teaching at Steps Dance Center in Aurora and Perseverance Dance Company in Roselle.

Melanie Manale-Hortin (Oswego, N.Y.) attended S.U.N.Y. Buffalo where she received her B.A. in dance and was a member of the Zodiaque Dance Company. In addition to university, Melanie has also trained with the José Limón Dance Company. Professional credits include performances with Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago as well as performing for Disney on stage and screen in the movie “Just Visiting” starring Christina Applegate. Melanie has taught for Dance Masters and Giordano Dance Center and currently teaches throughout the Chicagoland area. In addition to teaching dance, Melanie has been a certified Pilates

Jeff Wolfe (Guest Artist) hails from Clearwater, Fla. and appeared as a company member with River North Cassandra Porter (Aurora, Ill.) Chicago in the 2009-10 season. Prior began her dance training at Bonnie to his time with RNCDC, he spent four Ardelean’s Dance Studio in Aurora, seasons dancing with BalletMet. He Ill. Frank Chaves joined the company as Co-Artistic Director in 1994, and in 2001, assumed sole artistic directorship. River North Chicago has toured extensively in Illinois, throughout the United States and, in 2008, embarked on its first European tour to Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland. A return tour to this area, as well as to Finland and Poland are currently in the planning. The company was recently selected as the touring company for the 2010 – 2011 Doris Duke Foundation-funded “Building a Network of New Dance Presenters,” a collaborative project of DANCECleveland, Dance Affiliates of Philadelphia and Dance St. Louis, and was just awarded a national touring grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts.

The company has enjoyed three WTTW Channel 11 Chicago television specials, produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning HMS Media. The specials, “Reality of a Dreamer,”“River North Rising,” and the 2009 television special, “Every Dancer Has a Story,” have each garnered a Midwest Emmy Award.
