CHIP DAVIS creator and founder I grew up in a little farm town in Ohio. My grandmother was the church organist in our small church right across the street from our home. My most cherished Christmas memory is of the services on Christmas Eve. As a little boy, it was so magical— the glow of candle lights and smell of fresh pine boughs that decorated the church. Afterwards we’d come back outside where we could smell the woodburning fireplaces in the neighborhood. The rest of the evening was a mix of special food, the Christmas tree and family faces. It is a memory that has always stayed in my heart. It’s also why
being part of your holiday traditions with our annual Christmas concert tour is so important to me.

Families start new traditions each year. For the Mannheim Steamroller family, this is our second year of performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’re happy to be playing on the Office Max float. We are again part of a special NBC program, “Pandora Unforgettable Moments on Ice,” broadcast the Sunday after Thanksgiving. A superstar cast of Olympic and World Champion figure skaters perform to Mannheim Steamroller Christmas songs. American Idol runner-up David Archuleta also performs and Ico-host the broadcast with Kristi Yamaguchi! We return to Universal Orlando Resort for our fourth year of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concerts scheduled for the first three Saturdays and Sundays in December. Now you see

why we have three traveling troupes! But the most important tradition to everyone at Mannheim Steamroller is being with you tonight. Over the years I’ve watched mothers and fathers bring their children—and then their children’s children—to hear our Christmas music. Seeing that has created another memory for me to cherish. Even though I can no longer participate as a member of the band because of cervical disc damage, I will always be part of the Christmas tour—writing, arranging, producing and directing the sounds of Mannheim Steamroller. Along with traveling to as many performances as possible. Because that is my Christmas tradition. My best wishes to each of you this season! –Chip
