REPERTORIES

Encuentro

Created in 2008, this profound and charismatic duet, choreographed and interpreted by Carola Zertuche and Juan Siddi, demonstrates the knowledge between both and the instinct following each other’s improvisation. It has been performed in Los Angeles, New Mexico, and was recently nominated for the 2009 Isadora Duncan Award for outstanding Achievement in Ensemble Performance (31st Ethnic Dance Festival San Francisco, CA). Their performance was called one of the “most memorable” performances by VOICE OF DANCE critic, Alan Ulrich. The ending of love is like death. When the beloved is gone, something beautiful is left behind.

Ángel de la Guarda – Guardian Angel

World Premiere 2009. A majestic piece expressing the beauty of flamenco’s spirit. Mystical, elegant, sensual. Performed by the Company. “Everyone of us has experienced moments where we have felt someone watching over us. I call that Ángel de la Guarda, Guardian Angel. I have created this new piece recently with the help of Carola Zertuche and the music of Chuscales.”

Nataraj – Lord of Dance

In India, the god Śiva, depicted as the Lord of Dance, exemplifies the nature of creation. This piece offers a glimpse into flamenco’s mystical roots, conveying an array of human feelings, interpreted in a magical mosaic of elegance with a taste of all colors. Created in 2008 by Juan Siddi and enhanced for 2009. Interpreted by the whole Company.

Pasión Flamenca – Passion for Flamenco

This number interprets the passion of each ensemble dancer’s universal way of life and their commitment to the unique art that is flamenco. Fiery, powerful and sensual. Originally choreographed by Juan Siddi in 2007 and updated annually. Performed in New Mexico, Colorado, and Germany. “Five fierce sensual women who storm the stage … will take your breath away.” Colorado Springs Independent

Sabor Havana – Havana Flavor

A taste of brown sugar and a pinch of cinnamon by the beauty of women. Music and song interpret love stories of Cuba with their African influence. Erotic and playful, this piece has won many hearts. Choreographed in 2007 by Juan Siddi and performed in New Mexico, Colorado, and the Middle East. Danced by the Company Ensemble.

Recently received the 2011 Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, Santa Fe, NM, where his Flamenco Theatre Company is based and teaches/choreographs flamenco dance. Siddi was born in Frankfurt, Germany of immigrant parents. His mother, whose family originated in Granada, was from Barcelona, Spain. She immigrated to Germany where she met Juan’s father from Italy. Flamenco music was part of daily life in their home, and through their ties with a “peña”, (a group dedicated to Spanish culture), Juan was immersed in the flamenco culture and began dancing and performing when he was very young. His most influential teachers have been Rebeca Carmona in Germany and la Tani in Barcelona, Spain. Starting at the age of 15 in Tablaos Flamencos, including Al Andalus Frankfurt, Germany. Beginning his career as a young, powerful and passionate flamenco dancer in professional dance companies and productions at the age of 18, Juan danced and co-choreographed with Compañia Flamenca Alhama and Noches de Amor productions on international tours for seven years, including: Metropol Theater, Vienna; Tranenpalast, Berlin; Moods, Zurich; on Austrian television programs ORF; Arosa Cruises through the Mediterranean and North Africa, and was featured in flamenco festivals, including the Bienal de Flamenco, Sevilla.
