KINDUR: THE ADVENTUREOUS JOURNEY OF ICELANDIC SHEEP In KINDUR: The Adventurous Journey of Icelandic Sheep, Compagnia TPO transports audiences to the wild and enigmatic Icelandic territory, telling an ecological fairytale that follows two adventurous sheep in the season’s cycle. Through the eyes of Kindur (“sheep” in Icelandic) the audience discovers the extraordinary environmental landscape, myths and legends of Iceland. From glaciers to northern lights, from geysers to the rumble of gigantic waterfalls, every natural element seems animated by mysterious forces: a rock becomes a troll and elves exert their magical powers.

Onstage three dancers create a contemporary saga inside the rarefied and magical scenery, where sounds and images interact using pioneering interactive sensor technology and motion capture.

COMPAGNIA TPO Compagnia TPO was founded in Prato, Italy in 1981 as a children’s theater company devoted to creating works that are highly visual and multidisciplinary in the use of the genres of music, dance, art, sculpture, digital media, computer technology, lighting and sound. TPO is an awardwinning, internationally recognized company who believes in creating dance/theater works for children that are visual and conceptualized moving paintings which use movement, artistic objects, mechanical and digital devices and the interplay of lighting, all geared to a child’s eye.

In 1999, Davide Venturini and Francesco Gandi became the artistic directors of TPO. With the emerging technology that has evolved, TPO has grown more and more on the use of digital technology, graphics, video and how to combine these elements with the more traditional art forms of dance, theater and music.

TPO has created new methods of interaction between performers, the audience, and stage spaces by applying computer sensors and triggers to images and sound, and they have found new ways to collaborate with a variety of artists, dancers, actors, directors, musicians, engineers, designers, writers and illustrators, to create new works. These concepts have created fame and a reputation for TPO throughout Europe, Australia, the United States, South America and Canada.

ARKTYPE/THOMAS O. KRIEGSMANN ArKtype is a New York-based company established in 2006 under the direction of producer Thomas O. Kriegsmann to support the finest in emerging and established international artists in the strategic development, production and touring of innovative new performance work.

ArKtype’s past work in the U.S. includes projects with Brooklyn Academy of Music (Next Wave Festival), Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Performance Space 122 (Fresh Terrain Festival of Performance Theater, Austin, TX), Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Hartford Stage Company (Brand:New Festival of New Works), Actors Theater of Louisville, New York Theater Workshop, Mark Taper Forum, Apollo Theater, The Culture Project and La Jolla Playhouse. ArKtype’s acclaimed work has been seen across Europe, Africa, East Asia, North and South America and Australia. COMPANY BIOS Davide Venturini (Director) studied sociology at Cesare Alferi University in Florence. He has been with TPO since 1983. Within it, he has directed productions with an eye to the pedagogical aspects of art, and in particular the processes of visual communication, emphasizing the value of images and the use in theatre of hi-tech devices. He currently holds the post of TPO author and Artistic Director.

Francesco Gandi (Director) studied at the DAMS Academy in Bologna. Since 1987 he has conducted his research activity with the TPO in the roles of author, director and actor. His works typically make prevalent use of images, props, figures and, in his latest productions, technology. He currently holds the post of President of the TPO Cultural Association.

Anna Balducci (Choreographer) graduated from the Schweizerische Balletberufsschule in Zurich in 1993. She went on to specialize at the Rudra Bèjart academy of Lausanne, broadening her skills as a dancer to encompass acting, singing, music and choreographic composition.

She dances with “Ensemble” and “Company blu”. She has been involved in children’s theatre since 2004 and presently works with TPO. Erika Faccini (Choreographer) studies Disciplines of Arts, Music and Show in the University of Florence. She studied at 4

National Dance Academy in Rome and at MAS in Milan. Between 2001 and 2005 she worked in Virgilio Sieni Dance Company. She collaborates with Giorgia Maretta, in artistic residency at PARTS and Theatre Marni (Bruxelles), selected at Biennal of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean 2008, finalists at Prize EXTRA in Forli by Andrea Nanni, winners of Price MOVIN’ UP 08 young artists in the world by GAI, finalists at Price EQUILIBRIO Rome 2009. She has danced with TPO since 2005.

Paola Lattanzi (Choreographer) graduated from the Theatre School (SNDO Choreography Department) Amsterdam in 2001. She works with many companies in Italy and in The Netherlands, amongst others Enzo Cosimi since 2002. From 2000 she has choreographed her own projects, which have been presented in many places in Europe (among others: The Place, London; Romaeurope, Rome; DWA, Amsterdam). She has collaborated with TPO since 2007.

Elita Cannata (Dancer) was born in 1985 and started her professional training in Florence at Opus Ballet, where she worked for the young dance company in 2004. In 2007, she graduated from Codarts-Rotterdam Dance Academy, where she performed with Megumi Nakamura and José Navas, among others. Between 2007 and 2008 she worked

In 2009 she moved back to Italy and began a Masters in Performing Arts at Dams in Bologna, and in 2010 she was selected by Bienniale di Venezia for Choreographic Collision. She has also attended several workshops between London, Paris, and Florence. In 2011 she worked as an assistant to the Artistic Direction of Fabbrica Europa Festival in Florence.

He was also coordinator of Inverso Technologico, a project concerning Arts and Communication between the Fine Arts Academy in Venice and the Telecom Future Center (AKA F.ink) for audiovideo performances.

Martina Gregori (Dancer) was born in 1984 and started her professional training as contemporary dancer in Florence at Opus Ballet where she worked for the young dance company from 2006-2008. In the company she performed the work of choreographers Roberto Zappalà, Corinne Lanselle and Bruno Collinet, among others. In 2009 she participated in the production “Pausa Paradiso”

by Samuele Cardini and Marina Giovannini (Compagnia Virgilio Sieni), winners in 2008 of the prestigious “Premio Equilibrio” patronized by the Music Foundation in Rome. In 2011 she graduated in Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Florence and in the same year alongside her work as a dancer she started a collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Italian Studies in Florence as an Italian teacher to foreigners. Martina joined TPO in 2012.

Francesco Taddei (Sound/Video Console) graduated from the School of Higher Musical Education in Saluzzo after having attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara (Multimedia Arts). He works as a sound technician in his own recording studio for concerts and in theater productions. He also works as a graphic designer.

He has been working with TPO since 2007.

Angelica Portioli (Dancer) graduated from M.A.S. (Music, Art, and Show) Academy in Milan in 1999. From 2000-01 she worked as a singer and dancer in Germany in the musical “Dance of the World” directed by Jeanette Damant. Between 2002 and 2004 she was with the company directed by choreographer/ performer Fabbio Ciccalé. She has been studying contemporary dance and singing in various cities including Rome, Salerno, Paris, Hamburg, Amsterdam, and Brussels.

Andrea Fincato (Sound/Video Console) holds a BA in Sociology (Padua) and MA (cum laude) from the Fine Arts Academy (Venice). He is a multimedia artist, specializing in interactive design photography, video and

Elsa Mersi (Digital Design) works in the fields of performing arts, computer graphics and the Web, using a multidisciplinary approach.

Her work focuses prevalently on research and experimentation in new ways of interpreting the relationship and interaction that link performer, image and space. She also conducts research into new languages and systems of computer-based projection.

Spartaco Cortesi (Sound Design) works on audio productions in multimedia projects using mainly electrical instruments and audio software. He has 5 albums to his credit, two of which were solo under the pseudonym of Yellowcake, published in the second half of the 90s by KK Records, the seminal Belgian electronic music label. He has worked with TPO since 2000.

Rossano Monti (Engineering) is a self-taught computer specialist, attending courses in computer engineering in Pisa until 2001.

Since 1995 he has been a sound engineer and graphic artist for the Bonton group both live and in studio, he has contributed to the sTRANO network group and has taught computer know-how. He has been with TPO since 2002 dealing with programming and KINDUR | Overture Center

Stefania Zampiga’s (Collaborator on Concept) research is especially oriented towards the relationship between words and movements; she has been writing poems for TPO’s productions since 1997 and for contemporary dance works.

Amongst other things, she loves reading and writing in English. She is onstage with TPO’s The Japanese Garden in its English version.

Fiamma Ciotti Farulli (Costumes) has been interested in drama since she was very young, and has attended Vittorio Gassman’s “bottega teatrale” (theatre school); she has been a dramaturgy student of Eduardo de Filippo and Vincenzo Cerami. After her degree in cinema studies, she has entered the fashion world as a creator and a stylist. She is currently a teacher in the course Cultura e Progettazione della Moda (Fashion Culture and Planning) at Florence University.

Livia Cortesi (Props Design) graduated in stage design at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. She has worked with TPO since 1992, dealing with sets and items for all shows and workshops. At the same time, she works freelance with theaters, film and set workshops.

Valentina Martini (Management) graduated in Foreign Language studies in 2001 and in PROGEAS (organizing events) in 2004; she achieved the European professional qualification for planning performing arts in 2002. She has participated in internships at the Department of Culture of the town of Prato, and she has worked jointly with the University of Florence on devising a long-distance training programme. She has handled distribution and organization for TPO since 2004.
