D I R E C TO R ' S N O T E In a time where the world is deeply missing and craving the performing arts, we feel so fortunate to be able to share this beautiful piece of work with you. This is a unique opportunity to present a production we never would have usually selected for this high school group. If you’ve attended our productions before, you’ve likely noticed the packed stage, and that’s the way we think high school theater should be done. We love giving as many students the opportunity to participate as possible; however, in order to safely prepare a production, that was just not a possibility this year. Additionally, many of the traditions and routines we’re used to had to be adapted or eliminated. You’ve likely guessed much of this was the case, but we share this with you to recognize how truly resilient this group of students has been. They’ve adapted to every change with maturity and understanding. This show has looked so different in so many ways, yet the heart and soul behind the work has remained steadfast. There are a few students in particular who have gone above and beyond to make this the positive, successful experience that students strive for. Cole Hicks and Kylie Hengstenberg have gone above and beyond as Vocal Student Directors to tighten the extremely challenging vocals you will hear tonight. Mia Bolyard and Aiden Loya have been positive, thoughtful leaders as Student Directors. Jake Koch thoughtfully designed the costume plot and much of the multimedia elements of the show. Trinh Vo, Aden Weier, and Jake Koch have been putting in a ton of extra hours designing the setting elements and preparing our livestream. We are so grateful for your support--be it here in the auditorium or at home. Thank you for supporting the performing arts, and thank you for supporting our students. We are beyond excited to have had a collaborative outlet for our creative energy and to share that outcome with you tonight. It is with delight that we share with you the message of Songs for a New World: we all share in collective hurt, loss, and growth that create the opportunity to voyage into A New World. And we keep believing that (as the students reassure us at the end of the show), “we’ll be fine.” We hope this piece of art provides you the opportunity for connection that it granted us these past few months. Laura Bengs (Director), Ami Majeskie (Choreography), Kate Mitchell (Pit Band Director), James Sevens (Technical Director), and Krystle Stingle (Vocal Director).
