He was most recently seen as Robert in Profiles’ Midwest Premiere of JAILBAIT by Deirdre O’Connor and Jared in the Midwest Premiere of BODY AWARENESS by Annie Baker. Prior to that, he appeared as Sam in Profiles’ World Premiere of GRACELAND by Ellen Fairey and as multiple roles in the U.S. Premiere of THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISSOCIA by Anthony 2 Profiles Theatre

Eric received an After Dark Award for Outstanding Ensemble in “Bench Seat” as part of Profiles’ Midwest Premiere of AUTOBAHN. Other Profiles credits include THE GLORY OF LIVING, THE RADIANT ABYSS and NOISE. Eric teaches on the adjunct faculty at Columbia College Chicago.

DARRELL W. COX (Cassius) is an ensemble member of Profiles Theatre. He was most recently seen as Bobby Gould in SPEED THE PLOW and John in OLEANNA as part of the Mamet Rep at ATC. Prior to that, he appeared as Joe Cooper in Profiles’ production of KILLER JOE by Tracy Letts, for which he received his fourth Joseph Jefferson Award for Actor in a Principal Role.

Other recent Profiles credits include Ben in Profiles’ Midwest Premiere of THE MERCY SEAT by Neil LaBute, Joe in Profiles’ World Premiere of GRACELAND by Ellen Fairey, the Midwest Premiere of GREAT FALLS by Lee Blessing, and Taggart in Profiles’ first full Chicago production of MEN OF TORTUGA. Darrell was recently seen in the Chicago Premiere of THE PEOPLE’S TEMPLE at American Theatre Company as Jim Jones and Stephan Jones. He has appeared at Steppenwolf in the World Premiere of MEN OF TORTUGA (where he originated the role of Taggart), the Midwest Premiere of ORANGE FLOWER WATER (which traveled to the Galway Arts Festival), and the World Premiere of WENDALL GREENE. Darrell has also been seen at the Goodman in THE SHAWL and HOME as part of the David Mamet Festival and the World Premiere of MARTIN FUREY’S SHOT at TimeLine, among others. He has won four Joseph Jefferson Awards for Principal Actor for his work in Profiles’ productions of KILLER JOE, BLACKBIRD, SOME VOICES and EYE OF GOD. In addition, he has received two After Dark Awards for Outstanding Performance for Profiles’ productions of POPCORN and CARNAL KNOWLEDGE. MARC SINGLETARY (Kendall) has lived in Chicago for four years after working at the Neighborhood Playhouse in

NYC teaching acting to soap opera stars and behind the scenes production in LA. Marc understudied the role of Dan White in About Face’s THE EXECUTION OF JUSTICE, directed by Gary Griffin and the role of Alex in Eric Rosen’s production of LITTLE DOG LAUGHED. He has performed at Trap Door and Boxer Rebellion and in the World Premiere of DESTINY’S CALLING at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywod. He has appeared in several national commercials including Miller Lite, Coors Lite, Walgreens and Kraft Hidden Valley Ranch. Marc appears in the award winning upcoming film, BLACKMAIL BOYS, directed

by Joe Swanberg, and has his first starring role in the 2011 indie WHEN I’M ALONE, directed by Nathan Adloff. He can also be seen in Project Greenlight winner Pete Jones’ film, OUTING RILEY. This fall, Marc served as co-producer and acted in the Chicago based sitcom pilot, BAD SIDES. He recently formed his own film production company.

ALLISON TOREM (Demi) is the newest member of Profiles Theatre.

She was most recently seen in TRUST at Lookingglass Theatre, for which she was nominated for a Jeff Award for Actress in a Principal Role. Prior to that, she was seen as the Young Woman in Profiles’ critically acclaimed Midwest Premiere of GREAT FALLS by Lee Blessing. She made her professional acting debut as Jennifer in their production of IN A DARK DARK HOUSE by Neil LaBute.

Allison just finished filming the independent film THE WISE KIDS in South Carolina. She was a member of the Second City Youth Ensemble for two years. Allison can next be seen in Steppenwolf Theatre’s production of HOT L BALTIMORE. Profiles Theatre 3

EMILY VAJDA (Greta) is thrilled to be back at Profiles Theatre having recently appeared as Anna in the World Premiere of GRACELAND and understudying the role of Sharla for their award-winning production of KILLER JOE. She is a founding member of the Requiem Theatre

Ensemble where she was recently seen in THE STRONGER. Emily has also appeared in PICNIC with Saint Patrick Summer Theatre and THE HEIDI CHRONICLES at Thymely Theatre. Her recent film appearances include THE BIRTH OF A WHITE BOY, JANE’S EVERLASTING LOVE CONDITION and I’LL BE HERE. Emily received her BA in Performance Theatre from Northern Michigan University

P R O D U C T I O N S TA F F WILL KERN (Playwright) is best know for his play HELLCAB, one of the longest running shows in Chicago’s history. Originally produced

by Famous Door Theater Company in 1992, it ran for over nine years. Performed coast-to-coast and worldwide, HELLCAB won numerous awards, including a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival and Best Comedy Writing by LA Weekly.

His newest play, MOTHERS AND TIGERS: TRUE STORIES OF KOREAN WOMEN, received its World premiere from the Chaimoo Theater Company in Seoul, South Korea, where he teaches Communications at the Sookmyung Women’s University.

Other playwriting credits include SKELETON at Shattered Globe, THE ELVIS and SHAKESPEARE KUNG FU. As a screenwriter, Mr. Kern wrote the film adaptation of HELLCAB, the award-winning short film PAIN CHAIN and LOST IN ROME. Mr. Kern’s travel writing and non-fiction have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers around the world.

JOE JAHRAUS (Director) is the founder and Artistic Director of Profiles Theatre. He most recently directed Profiles’ Midwest Premieres of JAILBAIT by Deirdre O’Connor, THE MERCY SEAT by Neil LaBute, GREAT FALLS by Lee Blessing and THE THUGS by 4 Profiles Theatre

Adam Bock. Joe also directed the Midwest Premieres of Neil LaBute’s IN A DARK DARK HOUSE, SOME GIRL(S) and FAT PIG, for which he received a Jeff Award Nomination for Outstanding Director. Other directing credits for Profiles include the American Premiere of APPLE by Vern Thiessen, the award-winning Midwest Premiere of BLACKBIRD by Adam Rapp, BABYLON GARDENS by Timothy Mason, THE WATER ENGINE and SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO by David Mamet, and the award-winning Midwest Premiere of CARNAL KNOWLEDGE by Jules Fieffer.

COREY WEINBERG (Stage Manager) is thrilled to be working with Profiles Theatre again where he recently stage managed JAILBAIT and assistant stage managed their award-winning production of KILLER JOE. He is a recent graduate from Western Illinois University where he stage managed their productions of LONE STAR, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and MOON OVER BUFFALO. He was the director for university productions of PORTRAIT OF A MADONNA and THIS PROPERTY IN CONDEMNED, as well as assistant director for their production of PARADE. Other credits include assistant lighting designer for their

His favorite Chicago designs include OH, BOY! and THE BODY SNATCHERS at City Lit Theatre, THE FOUR OF US at Theater Wit, THE LAST UNICORN at Promethean Theatre Ensemble, THE FLU SEASON and CAMP FREEDOM! at Black Sheep Productions, and OKLAHOMO! FOR THE HOLIDAYS at About Face Theatre. Roger was born and raised in the Oregon High Desert and received his BFA from Southern Oregon University.

RICK JULIEN (Technical Director) returns to Profiles having most recently served as Technical Director for JAILBAIT. Previously, he was the Technical Director for all of Village Players Theaters Mainstage productions including YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU, LOST IN YONKERS and THE MARRIAGE OF BETTE AND BOO and he served as carpenter for THE GLORIOUS ONES, HELLO AGAIN and the Jeff Award Winning set for I AM MY OWN WIFE with The BoHo Theatre. He has been involved in theater and live productions for over 20 years.

MATTISSON VOELL (Lighting Design) is pleased to be working with Profiles Theatre for the first time. A native from Milwaukee, Matt is a recent graduate from Columbia College Chicago where he majored in Lighting Design while obtaining a minor in music. Matt is now working around the Midwest on such productions as RUN FOR YOUR WIFE, THE CRUCIBLE, and IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE. Some past design credits include COLORED MUSEUM, BAT BOY, BURIED CHILD, MEMORY OF TWO

MONDAYS, WHERE’S MY MONEY, WAITING FOR GODOT, LADY OF THE SEA, BLOOD WEDDING, INTERIORS, and WIZARD OF OZ. MYRON ELLIOTT (Costume Design) is pleased to be designing for Profiles, where he previously costumed IN A DARK DARK HOUSE, THIS IS HOW IT GOES and SOME GIRL(S). His recent Chicago credits include TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and FIRST LOOK REPERTORY ’09 at Steppenwolf, DENTAL SOCIETY MIDWINTER MEETING for At Play Productions & Chicago Dramatists, I DO, I DO and PHANTOM for Theatre at the Center, SPEECH & DEBATE at American Theatre Company and THE CLEAN HOUSE, AS YOU LIKE IT, and ANNA IN THE TROPICS at Aurora University.

Other design collaborations include productions with Stages St. Louis, Ohio Light Opera, Cincinnati Playhouse, Indiana Repertory Theatre, and Berkshire Theatre Festival. Myron is a staff member for The Steppenwolf Costume Shop, and holds an M.F.A. in Costume Design and Technology from Ohio University.

His next design will be ECLIPSED for Northlight Theatre.

JEFFREY LEVIN (Sound and Music Design) is thrilled to be working again with Profiles Theatre. He is a composer, sound designer, music director, and instructor living in Chicago, Illinois.

He graduated with a BM in music composition from Columbia College Chicago and has studied under Dr. Marcos Balter, Dr. Patricia Morehead, Dr. Ilya Levinson, and Philip Seward, piano performance with Dennis Luxion, and conducting with Russel Vinnick. His most recent music and sound design was for JAILBAIT at Profiles, 2ND STORY with Serendipity Theatre Collective, and A CROWDED HOUSE with The State Theatre. Prior to that he wrote original music and sound Profiles Theatre 5

P R O D U C T I O N S TA F F design for MR. MARMALADE at Columbia College, as well as a myriad of concert works for chamber ensembles.

The original score for KID SISTER was composed for a live chamber orchestra, conducted by the composer. He would like to profusely thank all the musicians involved with the performance and recording of this score.

Levin writes music for the concert stage, film/video and theater and has taught music theory and sightsinging/ musicianship at Columbia College and the Merit School of Music.

R&D CHOREOGRAPHY (Violence Design) is excited to once again be working with Profiles having recently received a Jeff Nomination for fight choreography in KILLER JOE. R&D is a non-profit company founded by David Gregory and Richard Gilbert for the purpose of improving the power and effectiveness of Chicago area theatre through

the art of violence design. Since 1997, R&D has choreographed fight scenes in over one hundred thirty-five productions, taught stage combat at universities, colleges, and workshops, and performed in professional theatre, live stunt shows, and film. They have designed violence for dozens of Chicago area theatres, including About Face, Apple Tree, ATC, Azusa, Bailiwick, Blindfaith, Circle, First Folio, Griffin, Lifeline, National Pastime, New American Theatre, Piven, Shakespeare’s Motley Crew, Theatre at the Center, Theo Ubique and Trapdoor.

PROFILES THEATRE HISTORY Profiles Theatre is a not-for-profit professional theatre company now celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season of producing plays in Chicago.

Founded in 1988 by five Eastern Illinois University alumni, the company was originally called Profiles Performance Ensemble. Profiles was in residence at the Wright College Theatre Building until 1990, when Artistic Director Joe Jahraus directed Profiles’ first play at the theatre’s current home THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISSOCIA – 2009 (4147 N. Broadway) - a hit production of David Mamet’s SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO. The following year, Associate Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox joined the ensemble.

Darrell has a BFA in Theatre from Sam Houston State University in Texas and first performed with Profiles in their long-running production of Sam Shepard’s TRUE WEST. Profiles shortly thereafter became the resident company at the Broadway address, formerly known as Red Bones Theatre, and took over all management responsibilities for the 50-seat theatre.

The ensemble officially changed the name of the company and of the theatre space to Profiles Theatre in 1995. Today, Profiles still maintains a small, tightly knit ensemble whose other members include Eric Burgher (2003), Somer Benson (2008), Allison Torem (2009), Greg Yaeger (1994), Sal V. Armano (1993), and Wayne Karl (1990). Profiles Theatre’s primary goal is to bring new works to GREAT FALLS – 2009 Chicago that illuminate the determination and resiliency of the human spirit. They produce World, US and Midwest Premieres by promising new playwrights as well as established writers whose work has been seen around the globe.

They take pride in carefully selecting scripts that combine integrity with risk, and are particularly drawn to playwrights with a unique narrative style and use of language. Profiles Theatre is committed to producing plays that tell a story in a captivating way, ones that will complement BLACKBIRD – 2004 the ensemble and speak to their audience.

In REASONS TO BE PRETTY, Greg’s tight-knit social circle is thrown into turmoil when his offhand remarks about a female coworker’s pretty face and his own girlfriend Steph’s lack thereof get back to Steph. But that’s just the beginning. As their relationship crumbles, they must journey to answer that oh-so-American question: How much is pretty worth?

While their nine-year-old son Greg is away for the night on his first sleepover, Adam and Jan have an evening alone together, the first in years.

The evening soon turns into a suspenseful nightlong roller-coaster ride of revelation, rancor, passion and humor that explores a modern-day marriage on the verge of either a breakup or deepening love and understanding.
