A M E S S AG E F R O M A R T I S T I C D I R E C TO R - B I L L T H E I S E N Mike Lorenz may be the most famous, yet unrecognizable member of the Skylight family, because almost all of his work for the company has been done in the orchestra pit. You have certainly heard him many, many times but have rarely seen him. So I cannot tell you how pleased we all are to bring Things that go Ding! to our Studio Theatre Series. Mike’s first Skylight show was back in 1972 and since that time he has worked on more than 100 productions for the company. He is an extremely talented drummer/percussionist and plays an unbelievable number of instruments - many unknown to most of us. His dedication and love of his craft make him a truly vital and invaluable asset to the Milwaukee theatre and music scene, and we are fortunate that the Skylight Music Theatre is his artistic home. Joining Mike on this wild ride are two other Skylight favorites, Jamie Johns and Ray Jivoff. This remarkable trio brings more raw talent and creativity to this project than is possible to imagine. You are about to see a show unlike anything you have ever seen and one of the most delightful evenings in the theatre in recent history. Ever since the Skylight began our Studio Theatre Series back in 2005 we have had the wonderful opportunity to showcase performers and composers in a truly intimate setting that is unlike any other in the city. It has been a great tool in expanding the mission of the company with productions that enhance and compliment the work we do on the Cabot stage. The range of work has been wonderfully eclectic, surprisingly educational and most of all, uniquely entertaining. Thank you for supporting the Skylight Music Theatre. Now it is time to fasten your seatbelts for the wild ride known as Things that go Ding! A M E S S AG E F R O M T H E M A N AG I N G D I R E C TO R - A M Y S . J E N S E N Thank you for joining us in the Studio Theatre for Things that go Ding!. You are in for a wild night of not only things that go ding, but also honk, beep and clang. We are pleased to be featuring Mike “Ding” Lorenz, along with Jamie Johns and Ray Jivoff in a truly original show. Since Mike first brought the house down during our 2009 Open House with his taxi horn “Habanera”, audiences have been asking for more. During our 2009-2010 50th Anniversary season, Mike, Jamie and Ray wowed our late night Cabaret audiences with an amazing mix of hilarity and musical talent. And so, tonight, they do it again with an even bigger array of percussion high jinx. Although you’ll be having such a great time during Things that go Ding!, you will probably not take much notice of the seat in which you are sitting, I did want to remind everyone of the Studio Chair Campaign that is currently under way. Skylight, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre and Renaissance Theaterworks have joined forces to replace the chairs here in the Studio Theatre this summer. The response has been tremendous so far and we are already almost two-thirds of the way to our goal of replacing all 99 seats with new, more comfortable chairs. Sample chairs and more information regarding the campaign can be found out in the Studio Lobby. Please consider joining the ranks of our Chair Campaign supporters and putting your name on one of the new Studio chairs. We encourage you to join us for our exciting 2012-13 season so that you can make your night sing all year long. We’ve add a new Spectrum Plus package that gets you to all 7 shows next season including the two right here in the Studio Theatre. Thank you for joining us this evening and for supporting the Skylight in so many ways. 2 Skylight Music Theatre

WHO’S WHO Michael “Ding” Lorenz (Ding) – Things that go Ding! represents Mike’s 104th production at Skylight Music Theatre, dating back to 1972. During his many years as a drummer/ percussionist, Mike has played an incredibly wide variety of music. Early highlights include receiving his first drum at age 5 from his father (peace and tranquility were forever shattered at the Lorenz household), joining the National Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps of Chicago, Illinois (at age 11) and playing with a variety of rock, R&B, jazz and fusion groups during the 60’s and 70’s, including MGM recording artists “The Bloomsbury People”. From 1982 through 1992 he was the featured xylophone player with “Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band”. Memorable gigs included appearances on NBC’s

“The Today Show”, the White House and dozens of national tours. These days, when not haunting the Skylight orchestra pit, you can find Ding playing in just about every orchestra in the area, the touring Broadway shows, working with the nationally acclaimed Kenosha Bradford high school theatre department, playing drums for Dick Contino at Festa Italiana and the occasional bar mitzvah. Mike would like to dedicate Things that go Ding! to the memory of his late parents, Carl and Muriel Lorenz, who are most likely together at this very moment skating around the great roller-rink in the sky to the sounds of the Big Bands. Special thanks to my partner, Carolyn Wehner, for helping me develop this show and always being there for me. And, of course, Jamie Johns and Ray Jivoff for your amazing creativity, musicianship and most of all, your friendship. Enjoy the show, “Music Lovers”!
