A M E S S AG E F R O M T H E M A N AG I N G D I R E C TO R – A M Y S . J E N S E N Thank you for joining us in the Studio Theatre for Beyond the Ingénue. We are so delighted to be extending what was a truly extraordinary run of The Music Man by having Niffer Clarke, our very own Marian Paroo, stay in town to help us ring in the New Year. It has been, and will continue to be, a remarkable year at Skylight. We started with a world premiere of The Rivals with an amazing cast, design team and production staff to bring Kirke Mechem’s delightful new opera to life for the very first time. We followed that up with the smash hit production of The Music Man. What a fun and joyful production both onstage for our cast and offstage for our wonderful audiences. We are so excited about the wide variety of productions we’ll be offering in the second half of the season with a return of Gershwin and Friends - this time on the Cabot Theatre stage. I am personally looking forward to Daddy Long Legs which is a sweet and charming new musical that is almost tailor-made for Skylight. I highly recommend reading the book by the same name if you’d like to know more about the story. Skylight has been promoting the story particularly to mother-daughter book clubs in the area. Don’t miss Things That Go Ding! in the Studio Theatre at the end of April for a raucous and uproarious celebration of all of the noise makers percussionist Mike Lorenz has in his arsenal. And finally, it has been a long time since Stephen Sondheim’s music graced our theatre and we have never before performed Sunday in the Park with George at Skylight. It will be a perfect show to round out our season. You are in for a treat this evening with Niffer singing one musical hit after another. I do hope you’ll join us throughout the remainder of our season for an engaging array of stories that sing! Best wishes for a happy and music-filled 2012.

A M E S S AG E F R O M T H E S TAG E D I R E C TO R – B I L L T H E L S E N Welcome to our first Skylight Studio Theatre production for the 2011-2012 season. We are very excited to bring you another original show in this uniquely intimate space, and I invite to join us on this fascinating journey exploring the life of a performer as it highlights the many similarities we all face as time moves on and we begin to ask ourselves what comes next. Directing this show has been a complete joy from start to finish because I am a huge fan of Julie Andrews, Shirley Jones, Barbara Cook and most especially Niffer Clarke. I have known Niffer for almost 15 years and in that time we have collaborated on many projects. When she and Richard Carsey came to me with the idea for Beyond the Ingénue I was immediately intrigued because even though the show centered on the life of a performer, there were such universal themes throughout the piece that I knew it would resonate with everyone because, like it or not, none of us are getting any younger. Beyond the Ingénue also features some of the most glorious tunes from the golden Broadway era of the 1950s and 60s when these three incredible musical theatre legends were in their prime. But as their journey continues we see how each of them, in their own way, blaze new trails to keep their performing careers alive; on Broadway, in concert halls throughout the country, in film and television and even as authors. It is also inspiring to have Niffer boldly explore her own life experiences and let us into her world so we better understand what she has learned from Julie, Shirley and Barbara and how she has taken that knowledge and forged her own path. Beyond the Ingénue is primarily entertainment….but along the way I think each of us will learn something about ourselves that will hopefully guide us as we continue to pursue our own unique journey.
