WELCOME Dear members of the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Community, Through an extensive Visioning and Planning process, the School District of South Milwaukee has engaged staff, students, parents, and community members in a dialogue about how to create the best possible future for our students. We revisited our mission, vision, and core beliefs, and we developed goals around four important themes: Curriculum Expectations, Character Education, Community Engagement and Cost Effectiveness. As we plan and implement activities that bring us ever closer to realizing these goals, we want to acknowledge that the SMPAC’s mission is an important part of this effort. We sincerely thank you for your participation and support! Sincerely, Dr. Rita M. Olson, Superintendent School District of South Milwaukee “Be the change you wish to see...” Gandhi

k atie ar miger biogr aphy At the ripe age of 21, Katie has accomplished more during her years as a recording artist than most people twice her age. She was just voted as Country Weekly’s #1 Hottest Bachelorette in Country Music, her video, “Best Song Ever,” was voted #1 on Great American Country’s (GAC) Top 20 Countdown for 4 weeks. She has the current #4 video on GAC for her song “Better In A Black Dress.” Her music was featured on ABC’s hot summer series, Bachelor Pad. Her single “Kiss Me Now,” the flirtatious ode to new love she co-wrote with Sarah Buxton and Blair Daly, was her second to hit the Top 40 on the Billboard Indicator Chart, while “Trail of Lies” landed in the Top 20 on Music Row, setting a record as the Highest Charting Independent Female Artist in 2009. Katie reached out to her faithful fans to choose the title for her latest release, Confessions of a Nice Girl. Confident, secure, bold, assertive, vulnerable and in-your-face could all describe the songs on the new album, as well as the artist who sings them. She released her first album when she was just 15 years old, has amassed a collection of songs on her third album that touches upon just about every emotion imaginable - love, infatuation, anger, sadness, hurt, happiness - and she is unabashedly unapologetic in showcasing her feelings, whatever form they may encompass. The new record is full of the heartfelt confessions of an assertive, hopeful and vibrant young woman. Katie wrote 9 of the 12 songs giving the world a peek into her mind. Her story is unconventional, but her music is universal. Her powerful vocals and skillful songwriting combined with her determination and passion shine through in her music. She is often compared to seasoned country vocalists like Martina McBride, Shania Twain and Sara Evans, and has performed on the road opening for well-known country music artists Kellie Pickler, Jason Aldean, Craig Morgan, Luke Bryan and LeAnn Rimes.

Proud supporter of: about nor a collins Local country-pop songwriter and singer, Nora Collins, is the 2012 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Rising Star Winner. She has performed at many local venues including Summerfest, Winterfest, Wisconsin State Fair, Shank Hall and more. Her music is heavily influenced by Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood. She recently spent time in Nashville working on her music, recording and performing.

Superintendent thank you The South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center thanks the Wisconsin Arts Board for their support of this performance, Emerald City Catering for being the Official Caterer of the SMPAC, as well as TASC Services LLC for donating the cleaning services to the SMPAC. We also thank our volunteers, who give their time and support as docents, ushers, ticket sales and more. Finally, we thank our patrons, donors and the community for its support. about the smpac Mission: to enrich the community by providing creative, innovative and diverse performing arts and life-long learning experiences, as well as a professionally managed facility for community and regional organizations. Vision: to be a performing arts center that delivers outstanding and diverse performance events and services to the students, district, community and greater South Shore area. Did you Know? The South Milwaukee Performing Arts Council is the nonprofit board that supports the SMPAC through fundraising efforts and programming decisions. The Council aims to create a diverse base of financial support for the SMPAC. These funds help support the overall operating budget, artists’ fees and production costs of the annual Performing Arts Series. Ticket sales alone account for only 46% of overall operating expenses for the season. Even if we sold-out every show, we still would not be able to cover 100% of our costs - as is the case with most performing arts venues. There are three key aspects of the annual revenue that the Council supports: Annual Campaign, Sponsorships/Grants and the annual Mystery Dinner Theatre Fundraiser. Additional support like this is critical to our ongoing success and future growth as it allows us to help bring in world-class events like Cirque Le Masque, amazing artists like Alpin Hong and once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunities for our students. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Chad Piechocki, Director of the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center at cpiechocki@sdsm.k12.wi.us or at 414-766-5048. Thank you for your support of the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. Enjoy the show! 4

2012 - 2013 perfor ming arts series Mark your calendars for these upcoming events in the 2012-2013 South Milwaukee Performing Arts Series. Milwaukee Ballet II featuring George Balanchine’s Who Cares? Saturday, October 27, 2012 • 7:30 pm Sunday, October 28, 2012 • 2:00 pm Join the Nancy Einhorn Milwaukee Ballet II Program for a show featuring classical and contemporary repertoire including George Balanchine’s Who Cares? set to music by George Gershwin, arranged by Hershy Kay. Who Cares? premiered in 1970 and uses Gershwin’s songs not to evoke any particular era but as a way to portray an exuberance that is both broadly American and charged with the distinctive energy of Manhattan. Vienna Boys Choir Friday, November 23, 2012 • 7:30 pm No group of child musicians has won more renown than the incomparable Wiener Sängerknaben, founded by Emperor Maximilian I in 1498. Six centuries later, the famed Vienna Boys Choir continue to delight music-lovers across the globe with their purity of tone, distinctive charm and a diverse, crowd-pleasing repertoire of timeless music with a universal popular appeal that includes Austrian folk songs and waltzes, classical masterpieces, beloved pop songs, holiday favorites and medieval chant. Gifted musicians with voices of unforgettable beauty, they carry on the illustrious tradition as the world’s preeminent boy choir. Avner Eisenberg in Exceptions to Gravity Friday, January 25, 2013 • 7:30 pm Avner Eisenberg in Exceptions to Gravity is a reminder of the theatrical power that can reside in a single charismatic performer who touches the heart. A master of the art of physical comedy, Avner weaves a spell of poetic simplicity in a show of hilarious predicaments. Sybarite5: The Shuffle Effect Saturday, February 2, 2013 • 7:30 pm From the moment that their bows hit the strings, Sybarite5 engages the senses and redefines the rules. The Shuffle Effect sets a new standard in audience experience. The traditional set program list is replaced with an iPod containing the group’s repertoire. The program for the concert is determined live from the stage, as the players press shuffle on their iPod and play whatever piece shows up on the screen, so each performance is a unique event. Davell Crawford: The Genius of Ray Charles Thursday, March 14, 2013 • 7:30 pm Davell Crawford, the piano Prince of New Orleans, celebrates the genius of Ray Charles and the 50th Anniversary of his influential recording, Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. Released in 1962, the album became a rapid critical and commercial success and many critics argue that this is Charles’ best studio album. Amid the height of the African-American civil rights struggle, the album’s combination of soul and country music bent racial barriers within popular music in the United States. Katie Armiger
