Grunion D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S Welcome to Sunset Playhouse! I hope you are ready to have a good time because that is what William Van Zandt and Jane Milmore’s productions are all about. There is no deep thinking, no hidden plot, no tears to spill, just a plain flat out laughing good time. I love doing a good farce and we have a very talented cast and crew to perform this one for you. What looks funny on stage usually requires good acting. A farce, with its physical comedy, needs an extra dose of energy and perfect timing. Our cast is full of Gatorade and salt tablets in order to bring this all to you without passing out. Hang on for the ride because it promises to get bumpy. Van Zandt & Milmore know how to get some laughs, and they do it preposterously. This show is kind of special to me, because back in 1997 I made my Sunset Playhouse debut “playing doctor” in another Van Zandt-Milmore comedy, which was a SCREAM. So don’t think too much--just sit back, relax, and let the laughter melt your troubles away. Please enjoy Love, Sex & the IRS. No seriousness allowed. Brian D. Zelinski, Director and proud new father.

BIOGR APHIES Jennifer Allen (Stage Manager) Jennifer thanks the entire team that made this show possible. It’s a great example of teamwork and how much dedication it takes to continue bringing audiences wonderful, exciting, and touching theatre. Whether you have two hours or two days to contribute, please consider joining us as a volunteer. No experience necessary, but we promise lots of fun! Nasreen Ameri (Kate) Nasreen is making her second appearance at Sunset. She was first seen in THOSE CRAZY LADIES IN THE HOUSE AROUND THE CORNER where she played Jean, the nurse and foil. Nasreen has been seen in many national commercials, and is also the Miss Chiquita Midwest rep. When she is not shilling bananas, Nasreen enjoys the time she shares with her wonderful son. Beth Bland (Co-Props Mistress) This is Beth’s fifth show with Sunset. Beth also works props and running crew with the West Allis Players, and is a member of their Board. Stephanie Demyun Smith (Vivian) Stephanie is excited to be back on the Sunset stage where she last appeared in 2003. Since that time, she’s become a mom to Aiden, Ava and Noah. Before motherhood, she performed with numerous other companies, including Acacia Theatre, Waukesha Civic, and Windfall Theatre. Thanks to Brian for giving her the opportunity to enjoy the stage again, and much love to her husband Gregg for believing in her.

J. Michael Desper (Resident Designer/ Technical Director) J. Michael Desper has designed over 70 productions for Sunset Playhouse since the summer of 2001. Previously he freelanced in Chicago for such companies as Circle Theatre of Forest Park, Pendulum Theatre, and Bowen Park Theatre and Opera. Before that, he earned his Master’s degree at San Diego State University and worked for the Tony Awardwinning La Jolla Playhouse. Originally from Oklahoma, Michael earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. In spring 2008, he briefly returned to educational theatre with a stint as Guest Artist and Instructor for North Dakota State University. He would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in the technical aspects of theatre (and since you have read this far, there must be some interest) to give us a call at (262) 782-4431, ext. 235. We’re already working on the next show, so come be a part of what you see. Katlin Drew (Connie) LOVE, SEX, AND THE I.R.S. is Katlin’s theatrical debut at Sunset Playhouse, and playing the role of Connie has been a blast. Recent appearances include the 2011 production of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES at the Milwaukee Gay Arts Center and the Village Playhouse of Wauwatosa’s Original One Act Festival. Special thanks to the entire cast and crew and to her family and friends. Enjoy the show! Tim Gensler (Stage Manager) After “strutting my stuff” on stage as Marvin in GUYS ON ICE in January and February here at Sunset, I am happy to “play” stage manager for this show, and let this fine collection of talented actors take center stage. Having volunteered in virtually all facets of theater operations here at Sunset for the past 32 years- onstage, backSunset Playhouse 3

B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) stage, offstage and on the business side- I cordially invite each of you to bring your time and talents to Sunset Playhouse; there is always a place for you. Help keep the arts alive in your community! Ellen Kozak (Costume Designer) 2011 has been a busy one for Ellen: GUYS ON ICE, a commercial shoot for St Luke’s Hospital, LOVE SEX & THE IRS, plus a kitchen renovation. Her design work has taken her from Adam & Eve to speculative visions of the future. Ellen has designed for many theatre companies across the nation, including the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, GeVa Theatre in Rochester New York, The Intiman in Seattle and Center Stage in Baltimore. She has also faced the challenge of doing shows on cruise ships and in other countries. Other design projects were for films, videos, commercials, conventions, industrials, mascots, and photography sessions. Variety is the spice of life and theatre is certainly full of variety. Dustin J. Martin (Jansen) Though Dustin has acted and directed at various theatres in the Milwaukee area, he is pleased to be making his Sunset debut. Favorite shows include DEATH OF A SALESMAN, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, RUMORS, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE, and PILGRIM’S PROGRESS. He would like to thank his wife Eve and his four daughters for letting him come out to play. Jan Nehring Szczepanski (Stage Manager) Jan has been an active volunteer at Sunset Playhouse since 1984 when she appeared in “Fiddler on the Roof”. Although she has only appeared on the Sunset stage in 4 other shows since that 4 Sunset Playhouse

time, she has experienced virtually every other aspect of the theatre, including six years as the Stage Management Chairperson and two terms as a member of the Board of Directors. She was Chairman of the Volunteer Committee and is currently the Co-Chairman of the Sunset Playhouse Volunteer Choice Awards. A Life-Member, Jan is also proud to say that she is a recipient of the Rudy Award (Sunset’s equivalent of the Volunteer of the Year). You too could become a Life Member – just come on out and volunteer! Remember, mileage to and from a non-profit organization at which you volunteer is tax deductible – so you too can stick it to the IRS! Bryan Quinn (Jon) Bryan is making his debut at Sunset as Jon. Raised in Watertown, WI, he graduated with his BA in theater from Wisconsin Lutheran College in 2004. He has appeared with his hometown community theater The Watertown Players and as an alum at his alma mater in productions including THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER, THE SEAGULL, and THE AMERICAN CLOCK. He currently works days as an optician (ABOC) in Menomonee Falls. Michael Skocir (Floyd Spinner) Michael is pleased to be making his Sunset Playhouse debut in Love, Sex, and the IRS. A veteran of over 20 productions in the Milwaukee area, Michael has had the privilege of working with many organizations including the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, CircleStage, Caught In The Act Productions, Patio Players, Bay Players, and West Allis Players. Favorite performances include A CHORUS LINE, OLIVER, GYPSY, RUMORS (twice), ARSENIC & OLD LACE, and NO SEX PLEASE, WE’RE BRITISH.

B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .) Marty Wallner (Lighting Designer) Marty has been volunteering with Sunset for 37 years, nearly as long as love, sex and the IRS have been part of his life. He has done lighting for more shows than he can remember and has served13 years on the board of directors, 8 of them as treasurer. Among of his favorite recent Sunset lighting designs are ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT, I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. Brian Zelinski (Director) Brian is very excited to be back at Sunset, where his Sunset career with the 1997 William Van Zandt/ Jane Milmore production PLAYING DOCTOR. His latest and greatest production has been the birth of his first son, Lukas Brian- anything after that is just icing on the cake. Brian is sure you will love the show and hopes you are ready to sit back, laugh, and let your cares melt away. Love to Erika and his boy Lukas, as well as to all his family and friends who come to the show. Have a great time and laugh away. Matt Zembrowski (Leslie) Matt Zembrowski is tickled pink to be back on the Sunset Playhouse stage. Most recently, he appeared as Ernie The Moocher in GUYS ON ICE. Matt is also thrilled to be sharing the stage with his brother, Zach, and is grateful to again be performing opposite the lovely and talented Nasreen Ameri, having appeared together previously in THOSE CRAZY LADIES IN THE HOUSE ON THE CORNER a few seasons ago. Besides Sunset, Matt has performed with In Tandem Theater, Soulstice Theater, Boulevard Theater, Waukesha Civic Theater, Off The Wall Theater and Windfall Theater to name a few. Love to

the Zembrowskis, Aunt Kathy and Uncle Rod, and RS. Go Brewers! Zach Zembrowski(Arnold Grunion)Zach has been in and out of Sunset playhouse nearly constantly since he appeared in Sunset’s installment of IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE as Sam Wainwright. Most recently he has “appeared” (mostly by accident) as the ladder mover or revolve turner in TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE with Sunset. He is happy to be playing the “shady” Mr.Grunion in LOVE, SEX, AND THE I.R.S. and is excited to be on stage again with his brother Matt. He would like to thank Brian for casting him and his brother for auditioning with him and taking all the parts that he wants to get! Finally, Zach would like to send his love to his family, Aunt Kathy, Uncle Rod, Luke, Rachel, Matt (yes we are still civil), and Mom & Dad! Love you all! Erica Ziino (Co- PropsMistress) Raised and influenced by a very active and philanthropic family, Erica finds herself in perpetual motion – volunteering at the Sunset Playhouse, playing on three (not-so-competitive) team leagues (unless drinking counts), hiking, biking, and teaching religious education to a class of 21 fifth graders (in addition to working full time as the Marketing Communicator at Atos Medical Inc.). Feeling slightly more confident her second time around as Props Mistress (her first time with YOU CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE), Erica has helped with props, set construction, house managing and ushering for the last five years. As much as she wouldn’t mind the drama that naturally comes with the affection of three men (and she would gladly swap out Jon, Leslie, and Floyd for Keifer Sutherland, Matthew MacFayden, and Denis Leary), the only drama surrounding her life, at the moment, is whether her taxes will be filed before the 15th.
