BIOGR APHIES John Maclay (Director) is an actor and director who has spent the past 14 years working professionally in Milwaukee and Chicago. When not teaching at Carthage, he proudly serves as Associate Artistic Director at First Stage, the nation’s third largest theatre for young audiences. John has been working with First Stage in one form or another since 2000 and has directed or appeared in more than 25 First Stage productions. Favorite projects at First Stage include AS YOU LIKE IT, MY SON PINOCCHIO, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, ANTIGONE, WITNESS, THE BODY OF CHRISTOPHER CREED, GREEN GABLES and THE SHAKESPEARE STEALER. Later this season John will direct ROMEO AND JULIET for the Utah Shakespeare Festival and PINKALICIOUS for First Stage and will produce the world premiere of GATHERING BLUE based on the novel by Lois Lowry. His work has also been seen at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Defiant Theatre, Uprooted, Bunny Gumbo, Bialystock and Bloom, Skylight Opera Theatre and more. He was the founding artistic director of Milwaukee Shakespeare Company and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association. Martin McClendon (Assistant Professor of Theatre/ Director/Scenic Designer/Technical Director): Martin is an assistant professor of theatre at Carthage. Before he began teaching he spent 10 years working as a professional actor, carpenter, and scene designer in Chicago and Los Angeles. Martin designed more than a dozen sets for Chicago’s Defiant Theatre, receiving Joseph Jefferson Citation nominations for ACTION MOVIE: THE PLAY and BLUEBEARD. Other design credits include: ON THE VERGE and LAUGHING STOCK (Artist’s Ensemble, Rockford, IL), MAYHEM (Evidence Room), and LOBBY HERO (Odyssey Theatre), both in Los Angeles. Martin is a member of Actor’s Equity, SAG, and AFTRA. Acting credits include MOJO and SKYLIGHT (Steppenwolf ), HONEST (Steppenwolf Garage), CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN (Northlight), and DANNY BOUNCING (Victory Gardens) among others. On-Camera credits include numerous national and regional commercials, episodes of ER, Early Edition, THREE SISTERS, and several pilots, as well as independent films. Last year Martin directed the world premiere of THE RAIL SPLITTER by Rick Cleveland, written especially for Carthage Theatre. The production was selected as a full participating entry in the 2011 Kennedy Center/ American College Regional Theatre Festival and was recognized as a distinguished production of a new work by the National Selection Committee. He would like to thank his beautiful wife Jennifer and his wonderful kids Arabella and Horatio for their support and inspiration.

Kim Instenes (Assistant Professor of Theatre/ Costume Designer): Kim holds an MFA in Costume Design and Technology from Ohio University, and a BA in Theatre from UW-Whitewater. Her faculty credits include UW Parkside, UW Whitewater, UW Milwaukee and Lawrence University. In addition to teaching at these schools she has designed costumes and makeup for a number of productions including IMAGINARY INVALID, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, TROJAN WAR, SWEENEY TODD and TRANSLATIONS. Kim continues to work as a freelance costume and make-up designer in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. Professional design credits include THE GIVER and BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, as well as the upcoming musical BIG at First Stage Milwaukee, JEEVES INTERVENES and HEROES at Milwaukee Chamber, ROMEO AND JULIET at Milwaukee Shakespeare, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Renaissance Theatre Works, Utah Shakespearean Festival and the Racine Theatre Guild, and recently costume designer for the World premier of GOSSAMER, written by Lois Lowery and performed at First Stage Milwaukee. Design work at Carthage includes CABARET, INSPECTING CAROL and new play, by Laura Jacqmin, GHOST BIKE to name a few. LYSISTRATA won her a Certificate of Merit from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for costume design and an invitation to show her work at the Festival. Kim is excited to be a part of the Theatre Department here at Carthage as it strengthens and strives to create theatre artists of the highest quality. She enjoys the thrill of watching a student understand what a costume does for their character and watch that character come to life as a result. She would also like to thank her family, husband Doug, and children, Lauren and Dalen, for their continued support of her creative endeavors. William Newcomb (Assistant Technical Director/ Lighting Designer): William holds a B.F.A. degree in technical theatre from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas, and an M.F.A. degree in arts administration from Southern Utah University. He was assistant manager of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre for two years before coming to Carthage. William also serves as Production Manager for the Optimist Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park. Other credits include technical director of the Wells Fine Arts Center at Tarleton State University, assistant technical director at Oberlin College, scene shop foreman at Ohio Light Opera, and assistant production manager of the Utah Shakespearean Festival. He would like to thank his wife Alison for her continued love and support.

Kelly Field (PSM) is a sophomore Theatre Production and Design major at Carthage. Kelly has been doing backstage work for 4 years now and is very excited to be continuing her work with TARTUFFE. She was recently Assistant Stage Manager for Carthage’s productions of INSPECTING CAROL, ROMEO AND JULIET, and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. As well as being Assistant Stage Manager for the upcoming SMOCK ALLEY PROJECT. She also continues to help backstage by working on sets and lighting for other shows. Kelly would like to thank her Mother, Father, and all the friends and family that have supported and encouraged her along the way to pursue her passion in theatre. Teresa McCarthy (ASM) is a sophomore Theater Major. She is proud to be a part of this hysterical show. This is the 5th main stage production she has been involved in here at Carthage. She was last seen in the J-Term production of ROMEO AND JULIET. She has been on tech crews for INSPECTING CAROL, GHOST BIKE, and THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. This is her first time being an Assistant Stage Manager and she is thrilled for the experience. She hopes to build up her skills in every aspect of the theater. She would like to thank her friends in the cast for all of the fun and Kelly and John for the wonderful opportunity. She would also like to thank Marty for giving her the nickname T Mac.
Brian Cherry (Assistant light Design): Brian is happy to be working on TARTUFFE as assistant light designer. He is a senior this year working toward a degree in theater production and design with emphasis in scenic design. Recently, Brian has been working in the blizzard theater at Elgin Community College and their he has worked on a variety of different performances from music concerts to touring shows. In his lifetime He has been/worked on over 50 shows starting when he was in 2nd grade. Brian is excited to be working on Tartuffe, it has been a fun learning experience and hilarious to watch and hope everyone loves and enjoys the show. Liz Lange (Prop Design): is a junior double majoring in elementary and special education with a theatre minor. She has been working in the theatre since her junior year of high school. This is her third time designing props for a Carthage Theatre production. She is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this show! Lauren Eastman (Assistant Scenic Designer): is a Junior at Carthage College. She is a Scenic Design and English double major. She is also a scenic painting intern at Milwaukee’s First Stage Children’s Theatre. She has painted scenery for Carthage productions since her freshman year, but TARTUFFE is her second Assistant Scenic Design opportunity

Lizz Zitron (Dramaturge) is Outreach Librarian at the Carthage College Hedberg Library and a lifelong theatre fan. She has done dramaturgy for GHOST BIKE, THE RAIL SPLITTER, BOEING BOEING and BILOXI BLUES among other Carthage productions. Thanks to John, the cast, and crew for letting me drone on about secret religious societies and censorship. Special thanks to Alex for asking about citations. CAST Christian Aldridge (Officer) is a freshman Music Theatre and Theatre performance double major from Huntley, Illinois, and is extremely happy to be on the main stage for his first time at Carthage. He has been in 25 productions over seven years, and has recently performed as George in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and the Bishop in LES MISERABLES. He would like to thank his parents for showing him theatre, his sister for supporting him even while he is away from home, and the entire cast and crew for putting together a great show and a fantastic experience. Miranda Bishop (Flipote) is a junior Musical Theatre major who is thrilled to continue exploring the exciting world of classical theatre! Previous Carthage Credits include CABARET, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, SEUSSICAL (Jojo), and ROMEO AND JULIET (Nurse). Professionally, Miranda has performed in Live Entertainment at Valleyfair Amusement Park in Shakopee, MN. Dan Brennan (Tartuffe) is a junior Musical Theatre, Theatre and English triple major and is super excited to be on the main stage again. Courtney Matula (Dorine) is absolutely overjoyed to be a part of this amazing show!! While being a junior Theatre Performance & Communications major, with a minor in dance, Courtney has been seen in previous productions such as INSPECTING CAROL, THE RAILSPLITTER, GHOST BIKE, ROMEO & JULIET, and DOUBT: A PARABLE. She was also cocostume designer for the studio show ENDGAME, and performed in the dance work EASIER SAID THAN DONE in last year’s Carthage dance concert. Courtney would like to express her many thanks to John Maclay, for giving her this wonderful opportunity for growth, and to the cast & crew for making this such a phenomenal experience. Preston Smith (Monsieur Loyal) is thrilled to be appearing in his fourth mainstage production here at Carthage! Andrew Stachurski (Orgon) is a junior Theatre Performance Major with minor studies in History. This will be Andrew’s 7th mainstage performance at Carthage. He has appeared in the workshop production of SEUSSICAL, and will appear in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC in December. He is also a proud member of the Carthage Neil-Futurists. Mitch Weindorf (Valere) is a senior Theatre Performance and Directing double major with minor studies in German. The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education; Dr. Gerald and Paula McNichols Foundation; The Honorable Stuart Bernstein and Wilma E. Bernstein; the Kennedy Center Corporate Fund; and the National Committee for the Performing Arts. This production is entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). The aims of this national theater education program are to identify and promote quality in college-level theater production. To this end, each production entered is eligible for a response by a regional KCACTF representative, and selected students and faculty are invited to participate in KCACTF programs involving scholarships, internships, grants and awards for actors, directors, dramaturgs, playwrights, designers, stage managers and critics at both the regional and national levels. Productions entered on the Participating level are eligible for inclusion at the KCACTF regional festival and can also be considered for invitation to the KCACTF national festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC in the spring of 2013. Last year more than 1,300 productions were entered in the KCACTF involving more than 200,000 students nationwide. By entering this production, our theater department is sharing in the KCACTF goals to recognize, reward, and celebrate the exemplary work produced in college and university theaters across the nation.
