The Nerd 1
D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E Welcome to the 2011-2012 Nicolet Theatre Season! It looks like another fun year of theatre ahead of us as we move forward into a season filled with shows that are fun to work on and fun to watch. We open with Larry Shue’s THE NERD, a comedy originally written for the Milwaukee Repertory Theater in 1981. It has become one of Milwaukee’s favorite plays. We hope this evening’s performance will demonstrate why. This is my third time directing THE NERD--I guess I can’t resist its silly comic moments. The show also offers good opportunities to our technical crew. The remainder of our season begins with a collection of Student Directed OneAct Plays--four delightful comedies that make an entertaining evening. Our musical this year is GREASE--a favorite of performers and audience. Watch for announcements about tickets--it’s always a big seller. After last year’s run-away success of “Cinderella,” we are back with another children’s play “The Elves and the Shoemaker”--a free show performed in our Studio Theatre. The end of the season offers a turn to the serious with THE LARAMIE PROJECT--a breathtaking play based on the Matthew Shepard murder. This show will also be performed in our Studio Theatre. As we start the season, we want to thank all of our “Friends of the Performing Arts” and our advertisers (please support these businesses that support us). We also thank our Performing Arts Committee parents and the Drama Mamas and Dads. Their support is so helpful to our program. We are glad you joined us for THE NERD. Enjoy the show and come back for the rest of this year’s plays and concerts. Kenn Miller Director of Theatre Arts
