D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S I am grateful. The prospect of casting a show wherein the performers are to act, sing, AND play instruments on stage is a daunting one. I don’t know that I have sat through auditions quite like these where I had a smile on my face from beginning to end. Watching and witnessing this show unfold before me has been amazing. I cannot thank the cast - especially Jacob, who is also the music director, enough. The courage and positive attitude put forth by everyone has been amazing. Thank you! Having Laura as the rehearsal Stage Manager and Gabe & Isabelle as able assistants has also been an immeasurable gift. Again, I am grateful. Robb Smith Director

WAU K E S H A C I V I C T H E AT R E M I S S I O N S TAT E M E N T WCT’s mission is to provide quality live theatre performances and educational opportunities that enrich, challenge, and entertain both participants and audience members.

S P O T L I G H T O N T H E B OA R D O F D I R E C TO R S Welcome to the Waukesha Civic Theatre (WCT). This fall marks the start of our 55th season of providing quality entertainment to the Waukesha community. Last year alone, WCT presented more than 25 artistic events over 40 weeks. We are extremely excited about this season’s Mainstage performances, starting with tonight’s Smoke on the Mountain. This uplifting production, set in 1938 in rural North Carolina, is sure to soothe your heart and soul with bluegrass gospel music. We are especially proud of the multitalented actors appearing on stage tonight. Their ability to master the wide range of instruments featured in this show is simply amazing. If you are a first-time visitor to WCT, we welcome you to our stage. If you like what you see, please consider becoming a regular subscriber so you can enjoy more high-quality entertainment. There are three different ticket packages available, providing flexibility and value. Check with the box office during intermission for more details or order online by visiting our website at waukeshacivictheatre.org. Now sit back and enjoy the show! Gary Ebert Vice President, Board of Directors M AD CORNER I can’t believe I am starting my ninth season with Waukesha Civic Theatre. My how time flies when you’re having fun! It has been a pleasure and an honor to work in this beautiful facility for this incredible organization and with this amazing community, and I look forward to many more seasons of high-quality live entertainment. I am thrilled that WCT is kicking off this season by presenting Smoke on the Mountain. I am a huge fan of any show in which the actors are able to show off multiple skills, and in this case they do it in such an amazing way! Not only do they all act and sing, but they are playing instruments at the same time. And not just one instrument, but nearly everyone is playing multiple instruments. Wow! In addition to that, this musical is an incredible feel-good show. I am confident that each and every one of you will leave the theatre feeling great. We have lots more music and stories in store for the Waukesha community. Our 55th Season is full of exciting entertainment options. Enrich. Challenge. Entertain. That says it all, so keep watching, keep participating with, and keep supporting this cultural cornerstone. We couldn’t do it without you. T H E AT R E I N F O R M AT I O N ( C O N T .) PLEASE DON’T BE A “NO SHOW!” If you have tickets but cannot make the performance, why not give your tickets to friends to enjoy or let us resell them? You may be able to consider the price of the tickets that you turn in as a taxdeductible donation. CIVIC BROADWAY SINGERS Are you looking for upbeat entertainment for your next special event? The Civic Broadway Singers perform yearround in southeastern Wisconsin under the musical direction of Abby Lorenz. The 30-voice group sings memorable Broadway favorites for a variety of events, from company picnics and Christmas parties to corporate lunches and grand openings. The Civic Broadway Singers provide their own piano and sound system and will perform for groups of all sizes in exchange for a donation to the theatre. For scheduling the Civic Broadway Singers at your next event, please call Abby at (414) 350-8713 or e-mail her at AbbyLorenz@wi.rr.com. CIVIC SENIOR PLAYERS The Civic Senior Players are a dedicated group of Senior Citizens who have a craving to entertain others and who want to become skilled at it. The Players will devote time and energy to becoming actors. There is no charge to the seniors participating. This entertainment will be provided at no charge to any senior organization or residence, and the only requirement is an audience of at least 20 who would enjoy some laughs and a good time. Donations to WCT are accepted. If you would like more information, call Carol at (262) 549-1091. ACAP PLAYMAKERS provide daytime performances (often of original works) based upon school curricula, themes, and ideas relevant to children at various stages of their education. The fall PlayMakers production is geared to our elementary students, and the spring production is produced for middle

school students. While offered primarily to school groups, these familyfriendly shows are great for public, private, and home school groups, Boy and Girl Scout troops, senior centers, and your family! Please call (262) 5470708 for ticket prices and information. PlayMakers rehearse and perform in the daytime, and are always looking for new actors and technical personnel. ACCESSIBILITY The Margaret Brate Bryant Civic Theatre Building is fully handicapped-accessible, and WCT is proud to offer a number of services for our patrons who have special needs (a four-week notice is required and services are based upon availability). For the hearing impaired we have a T-Coil Loop System, T-Coil Listening Devices, and FM listening devices that will amplify the sounds of the performance. Patrons must have hearing aids with telecoils installed and activated to use the Loop System. Patrons who are blind can receive audio descriptive services for the performance. Wheelchair accessibility is available in two forms: transfer seats and wheelchair positions. PATRONS Please refrain from wearing highly-scented colognes, perfumes, hand cream, or aftershave to performances, as many people have allergies or respiratory problems. WCT is concerned for all patrons and we appreciate your cooperation. PARKING Parking is available on Main Street, in the Riverfront Plaza parking area behind the Theatre, off Barstow Street, in the parking facility on Broadway, and at other locations in downtown Waukesha. REMINDER As a courtesy to those who arrive on time, Latecomers will be seated at First Break!
