DIRECTOR’S NOTE “What are you going to do with that?” I was asked this question frequently when I told people I was a linguistics major. To be honest, I wasn’t sure of my answer at the time. I just knew I found languages fascinating and wanted to learn more: more languages and more about language. Fast forward to 2010 when I saw the world premiere of The Language Archive while I just happened to be on vacation visiting a friend. Immediately I was enamored by this play. I remember telling myself, “I have to direct this play one day.” Here was this gem of a show that seemed tailor made for me, combining my love of language, communication, and theatre. In my day job as a speech-language pathologist, I teach people how to communicate effectively. This play is all about communication, or the lack thereof, and the integral role communication- language plays in our relationships with our loved ones, our cultural backgrounds, and our identities. To my wonderful cast and crew, thank you for joining me on this journey. It was a pleasure watching each of you fall in love with this play and these characters. Mir ne glessala. Peter Kao Director
