D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S I want to tell you how honored I feel to direct this year’s musical, Anything Goes When attempting to choose a musical this summer, I reminisced about many of the musicals I have enjoyed watching and performing in throughout my life. Anything Goes drew me in due to the memorable Cole Porter music, the lovable characters, and the witty script. I soon realized that, with the strong leading roles, the timeless musical numbers, and the playful and warm feel of the entire show, this classic Broadway musical had to be the one. I would like to take a moment to recognize the incredible students I have worked with. I want to first thank my actors for the MANY hours they have put into creating such an engaging show, the energy they provided night after night to bring our story to life, the time taken to learn such challenging dances and songs, and most importantly the kindness and humor that made this entire experience amazing. Also, I humbly thank the crew for the time, effort, passion, and talent they’ve given to this production. Without their efforts, we would all be sitting in the dark, our actors naked with no props to use or backdrops to create the world of our musical. A special note to seniors from cast and crew: I cannot express how much I will miss all of you when you graduate because of the incredible talent you’ve selflessly given to our theatre family throughout your time here. Your hard work, dedication, and love of the theatre inspire us all. Thank you… Thank you… Thank you!!! I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to my colleagues for their incredible contributions to this production. We could have never put on this show without the amazing technical, musical, and dance gurus who shared so much of their time, talent and passion with us all. Finally, I would like to thank my husband and family for their love and support throughout this musical process and each theatrical endeavor I embrace mind, body, and soul! Now, please, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! B I O G R A P H I E S ( c o n t .)

Anna Aschliman ’11 (Stage Crew) is bedazzled to work on this show. Anna hopes to attend DePaul University for stage management (her plans may change, but she really doesn’t want them to). She has been doing crew since her freshman year and had the honor of stage managing this year’s one act, Times Flies, which had an extremely successful appearance at the state competition. She would like to thank everyone, especially her parents, for putting up with her randomness.“The more you give, the more you have to give.” Taylor Waldron ’11 (Stage Crew) is ecstatic to be participating in this year’s production of Anything Goes. This is his

second year doing crew, and he really enjoys the process of constructing sets. He plans to do crew for the spring play and then will go on to study design at Savannah College of Art and Design. Taylor is happy useful freshmen are on our crew to take over after he graduates. “I really don’t think you should be sharpening your pencil with a circular saw.” Savannah Armstrong ’11 ( Mrs. Harcourt ) is unequivocally jubilant to be a part of Whitefish Bay’s rendition of Anything Goes. You may recall her performances as the mildly-saucy and temperamental Lucienne Hominides de Histangua in the farcical comedy, A Flea in Her Ear or as an ignorant lover Whitefish Bay High School 5

hoping to rekindle life’s prior flame in the play Almost, Maine. Savannah would love to graciously thank her fellow theater geeks as well as the beloved Mr. Coleman for enriching her high school experience and creating such lovely memories. Even though she is incredibly depressed at the thought of high school theater ending, she is proud to conclude with such an amazing group of individuals. Margaux Kenwood ’11 (Bonnie) is more than thrilled to be Bonnie this year. You may have seen her in Guys and Dolls as a Hot Box Girl, in The Secret Garden as an Ayah or in the chorus of Once on This Island. Much love to her family and friends, as well as Ms. Kind-Keppel, the most fabulous directress she could ever ask for. Colin Han ’11 (Bishop Henry T. Dobson) is quite content to be performing in his first ever WFB theater production. You may have seen him playing the trumpet in the pit orchestra for the WFB production of Guys and Dolls 2010. He would in particular like to thank all the wonderful guys in this year’s pit orchestra. “Hang in there!” Marcus Hunter ’11 (Billy Crocker) is incontestably enraptured to be a part of Anything Goes. You may have seen him as a sullen barfly with a penchant for stupid tattoos in Almost, Maine, or a sex-crazed insect with ranidaphobia in Time Flies. Marcus would like to thank Thalia, the Greek goddess of comedy, for blessing Whitefish Bay with a thriving and loving theatre community. Marcus’ biggest influence is his younger brother Evan, future Time Magazine’s Person of the Year and selfproclaimed Commander of Earth. Annie O’Brien ’11 (Virtue) is delighted to be an Angel in Anything Goes. She is so grateful for the wonderful opportunities that the theater program 6 Whitefish Bay High School

has provided her and has loved being a part of the musicals for the past four years. Annie would like to thank her family and directors for their guidance and support, and her theater friends for such lovely memories. Chris Gama ’11 (Stage Crew) has spent his time helping and building all sorts of creations with the “crewbies” of Whitefish Bay High School. This is his fourth year on crew, and he plans to study at Edgewood College after his senior year. Catherine Gabel ’11 (Stewardess) Catherine has been enlightened by the cast of Anything Goes as she begins to descend from the flight of her life– theater in high school. This has been an overwhelming experience of love, laughter, and serious bonding she will never forget as she enters the land of Wizard of Oz- Kansas. Catherine has been awarded “Whitefish Bay’s Official Maid” due to her power to always acquire that role. As she ditches the apron and slips on the sparkly red shoes, Catherine will always be forever grateful to Mr. Coleman, Mr. Bruno, and Ms. Kind-Keppel for the opportunities. She would also like to thank her fellow crew and acting seniors for giving her THE BEST TWO YEARS OF HER LIFE. Ampi Paredes ’11 (Stage Crew) comes from Chile and is stoked to participate in Anything Goes because crew has helped her expand her love of theater. Ampi plans to have a cat named Cat and a cupcake bakery. She would love to thank her host family and friends for making her experience so wonderful. Nawoo Kim ‘11 (Violin) has finally decided to unveil her talents to the world by playing a small yet pivotal role in the pit orchestra for Anything Goes. Ms. Kim, being ever so modest, has chosen a more subtle method

for her debut, denying to take the spotlight away from the rest of the crew... just kidding. In reality, there is nothing much she can offer to the pit except the finished plate of Mr. Roth’s baked treats and her good looks (jk, again). All in all, this has been an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for Nawoo!

so helpful and supportive.

Xavier Durawa ‘11 (Cello) is thrilled to be performing in the pit orchestra for Anything Goes. You might know him from his performance the three previous WFBHS musicals, Once on this Island, The Secret Garden, and Guys and Dolls. He would like to give special thanks to the 1920’s and 30’s for the abundant organized, white-collar crime which has served as the backdrop for countless theatrical and cinema-graphic compositions. He would also like to thank Mr. Roth whose chemistry expertise, bass guitar skills, and service as subject for numerous Tower Times articles has made the school a far better place to learn.

Thaddeus Bruno ‘12 (Moonface) is thrilled to play Moon in the musical this year. He also participated freshman and sophomore years. He always enjoys WFBHS productions and hopes you enjoy this one too.

Carmel Assa ‘11 (Violin) is super excited to be part of Anything Goes. Although this is Carmel’s first performance in pit orchestra, she is no stranger to the stage. Carmel debuted as Maid #2 in her middle school production of Annie. Carmel would like to thank her friends and family as she makes her big comeback.

Chris Desien ‘11 (Percussion) is super-duper happy to be in pit for Anything Goes. He has been playing drums for many years, and also enjoys the piano, electric guitar, harmonica, and acoustic guitar. Chris solves Rubiks cubes like a pro and is excited for college in the fall.

Jesse Stone ‘11 (Guitar) is extremely excited to be playing guitar in the pit orchestra for Anything Goes. This is his first year in theatre productions at Whitefish Bay High School and he has loved everything he has done thus far. In the fall play he was cast as East, an easy-going guy who did not expect to fall in love with the girl who camped out on his front lawn. He also co-wrote the music for the play with Chris Desien. Jesse has enjoyed being involved in theatre at WFBHS and would like to thank everyone for being

Michelle Desien ‘13 (Hope Harcourt) is ecstatic to be a part of Anything Goes. You may have seen her in Guys and Dolls as a Hot Box girl last year. She started acting in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat at WFBHS when she was in 5th grade.

Drew Summers ‘11 (Trombone) is thankful for the opportunity to play in the pit orchestra a second time. You may have seen him in last year’s production of Guys and Dolls. He’d like to thank his friends who dragged him into it, everyone else for making it such a great experience, and Mr. Roth for his delectable banana cream pie.

Braden Bjella ‘13 (Evelyn Oakleigh) has a brobdingnagian amount of excitement about being a part of Anything Goes. You may recognize him as the quirky British man from A Flea in Her Ear and Sir David in Time Flies. He also had a variety of parts in last year’s musical, ranging from a dancing waiter to a singing gangster. Then, he played Conrad in Much Ado, which he found “dun, but in a Shakespeare quality way. It made [him] feel fancy.” Braden would like to thank his family, friends, and anyone that had to suffer through his constant testing of accents. Whitefish Bay High School 7

Katie Bentley ‘12 (Reno) is simply delighted to be a part of the sassy show Anything Goes. Katie has been heavily involved with the First Stage Theater Academy but has never had a role quite like Reno. Many thanks to the family and the beautiful Ms. KindKeppel for helping her slink her way into the confident, classy shoes of this character. Much love to all! Cassidy Ramirez ’11 (Baritone Saxophonist) is enthralled to be one of pit band members for another year of musicals. He started pit last year with Guys and Dolls and had a blast, convincing him to play again in this year’s musical Anything Goes. He would like to thank Mr. Shoemaker for taking time out of his busy schedule to work with the pit, the crew for setting up everything, the actors for providing him with a great group to accompany, and his fellow pit members who he has enjoyed playing with and will always remember. After graduation, he will be moving to Minnesota to study music. Hannah Williams ‘11 (Flute) is ecstatic to be supporting the incredible talent in this year’s musical through pit orchestra! Music is a principal element of Hannah’s life, and always has been, whether through band, choir, or private piano/voice lessons. She is planning to attend UW-Madison or UW-Steven’s Point next fall for an undergrad in Political Science before she goes onto law school. However, she also hopes to pursue music in college and for the rest her life. Special thanks to Cassidy for convincing her to join pit so last minute! Amber Kind-Keppel is tickled pink to direct Anything Goes with this year’s phenomenal cast, crew, and colleagues. An actor first, her childhood was spent creating imaginary friends, playing pretend with her family and 8 Whitefish Bay High School

friends that did exist, and embracing any and all roles thrown her way. As an adult, she not only enjoys the world of the actor, but has embraced the life as a director because it feeds her mind, body, and soul. You may recognize Amber as the director for “Hamlette,” “The Still Alarm,”“The Odd Couple,” “Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged),”“Waiting for Lefty,” Guys and Dolls, and “Time Flies.” Jeffrey Shoemaker (Music Director/Pit Conductor) - Mr. Shoemaker is very excited to work with such a talented cast and crew in this year’s production. Jeff’s pit/musical credits include: Cats, The Music Man, Annie, Sweet Charity, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Little Shop of Horrors, Footloose, Schoolhouse Rock Live, Bye Bye Birdie, Willy Wonka Jr., and others. Mr. Shoemaker has also directed Menomonee Falls High School’s production of Little Shop Of Horrors and will begin directing Aladdin for WFBMS starting in March. He thanks Ms. Kind-Keppel and Ms. Schmidt for being so great to work with, Mr. Coleman and the crew for the great set, Alicia for keeping everybody organized, Cassidy for helping organize the Pit, Mr. Roth for supplying the treats, and all of the cast and pit for supplying the talent. Break a Vocal Chord! Rebecca Schmidt is thrilled to have worked on Anything Goes. A life-long dancer, she spent much of her childhood prancing about while listening to old Blondie records as her mother gleefully snapped embarrassing photographs. As a full-grown adult she has danced with many national champion organizations, and she currently spends her summers traveling domestically and internationally with the Universal Dance Association to teach aspiring dancers of all ages. You might recognize Rebecca as the
