L E T T E R FR O M T H E P R E S I D E N T Happy 2012 to all of you! The noted British composer Benjamin Britten once wrote about the “sacred triangle” of music between the composer, the performer and the audience—each one of them fully reliant upon the other. For while music could exist solely between the composer and performer, where would the joy be? Music whether it is happy or sad, lyrical or intense, silly or serious is most definitely meant to be shared, and for the New Year we raise a toast to you, our loyal audience. Your consistent attendance and support over the years has made programming a pleasure. You embrace the new and cherish the familiar. And both are in store for the winter here at the Conservatory: Romantic Boleros for Valentine’s Day, a return of the electric string quartet Joe 2.0, fabulous string quartets, a wonderful (relatively) new work for piano trio and clarinet by Paul Moravec, as well as the annual We Six concert featuring compositions written by members of the band. This New Year we are also counting our blessings for the talented performers who graciously share their musical gifts with all of us. The faculty department recitals demonstrate the breadth and diversity of our teaching artists. This will be especially apparent at our March 4 family concert, Musical Menagerie, featuring members of the piano and string departments as they perform selections from “The Carnival of the Animals” and other animal related pieces. Thank you for your presence here, for your sincere appreciation of the music, and your support of music education. Enjoy! Karen Deschere President/CEO
