BIOGR APHIES Bluegrass vocalist and fiddler Rhonda Vincent began her professional music career at the age of five, playing drums with her family’s band, the Sally Mountain Show. She picked up the mandolin at eight and the fiddle at ten, performing with the family band at festivals on weekends. After appearing on TNN’s nationally televised You Can Be a Star program in her midtwenties, Vincent struck out on her own, singing with the Grand Ole Opry’s Jim Ed Brown, eventually leading to a deal with Rebel Records. Her work with Brown and her Rebel recordings caught the attention of Giant Nashville’s president, James Stroud, who signed Vincent to record two contemporary country albums. After her time at Giant, she moved to Rounder Records, and demonstrated her passion for the traditional music she grew up with, on Back Home Again.

A car accident in December 1999 kept her from a planned trip to Nashville for auditions, so she hired her band (unusually named the Rage) through the Internet.

Rhonda Vincent & the Rage have been gaining popularity at bluegrass festivals since their formation, playing hard-driving,

high-energy contemporary bluegrass music. Her 2001 album The Storm Still Rages was nominated for seven International Bluegrass Music Association awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year, while fiddle player Michael Cleveland and banjo player Tom Adams earned nominations in their respective instrumental categories. A three-year unbroken string of IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards led to the 2003 release of One Step Ahead, another tour, and another well-deserved showering of critical praise.

Recorded in front of a hometown crowd in St. Louis, Ragin’ Live arrived in 2005, followed by All American Bluegrass Girl in 2006, Good Thing Going in 2008, and Destination Life in 2009. After parting ways with longtime label Rounder Records, Vincent released Taken in 2010, and followed it with 2011’s Your Money and My Good Looks, a duets album with Gene Watson. Released in 2012, Sunday Mornin’ Singin’: Live! was a gospel-themed album and DVD recorded at the 100-year-old Greentop United Methodist Church in Greentop, Missouri, where Vincent first began singing in public as a child.

Join Jim Witter on grand piano and lead vocals, and his incredible band, on a journey through the 70’s...and into the 80’s!

With all new visuals and new songs from Billy Joel and Elton John, “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me!” is the perfect sequel to “The Piano Men”, Jim’s critically acclaimed show that takes us on a musical time machine through our past. With the incredible timeless hits of Billy Joel and Elton John as the soundtrack, we are taken back visually as news headlines, people, fashion, cars, TV and movies, and pop culture memorabilia are displayed on a giant rear screen. For the duration of the show, we are transported back to another time...another place.

After seeing “The Defranco Family” in concert at the age of nine, Jim Witter was hooked. “I knew right then and there that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life”. And he’s never looked back. A short stint as a stock boy at the age of fifteen confirmed his commitment to a life on the stage. He began performing professionally at the age of seventeen in clubs, piano bars, and even the odd building rooftop.“I would play anywhere, anytime for anyone. It really helped me build and develop my skills at interacting with a crowd...if you weren’t good at that, you weren’t asked back!” Jim uses those skills now onstage to bring something personable and refreshing to his live performances.

Whether it be his country music, contemporary Christian, or the music of Billy Joel and Elton John, Jim’s versatility as an artist has allowed him the opportunity to reach out and share his music and his infectious personality with audiences of all ages across Canada and the United States. His unique approach and comfortable rapport makes each member of his audience feel as though they are a part of a private concert in the comfort of their own living room. This, along with his rich, powerful voice and ease of manner at the piano, make him a favorite with theatre goers everywhere.

BIOGR APHY It all started at a very early age, as Jim began performing in the comfort of his own living room. His Mother would play piano, and Jim would belt out the hits, everything from the Beatle’s to Broadway musicals. Not bad for a four year old! All through his school years, Jim knew that he was destined to have a career in the music business. “I never really thought of doing anything else”, he says, “and neither did my parents because they always encouraged me to follow my dream”.

And follow it he did. Jim paid his dues, playing in the clubs and bars around Southern Ontario for years. He would write songs and record demos during the day, and play in the clubs at night to pay the bills. Jim met his wife Rebecca in 1985.

Together, they worked tirelessly to promote Jim’s talent and music in hopes that one

day their efforts would be recognized.

Finally in 1990, one of Jim’s demos came to the attention of a Sony Music Canada executive, which really got Jim’s recording career rolling. A record deal with a smaller independent label in Canada, soon gave way to a multi-record deal with Curb Records of Nashville, home of Tim McGraw, Leanne Rimes and Wynonna Judd. From his first self-titled record, to All My Life and Forgiveness, Jim has had 10 top ten radio hits in Canada, 7 hit videos on CMT, and impressive chart action in the U.S. on Billboard and R&R. Jim’s music and songwriting have been recognized on both sides of the border, earning him multiple awards and nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association, the Juno Awards, and most recently the Dove Awards in

Nashville, where Jim’s album Forgiveness was nominated for Inspirational Album of the year. “Songwriting has always been a real love of mine”, says Jim. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to work with so many incredible song-writers over the past years, like Steve Wariner for instance.

Not only have the collaborations produced songs that I am very proud of, but I have gained an invaluable education and created lifelong friendships along the way.”

A few years ago, Jim came up with the concept for the show “The Piano Men”; a musical journey through the 70’s featuring the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John. “I was always a big fan of acoustic musicespecially the folk of the ‘70s: James Taylor, Harry Chapin,” he reveals, “but my real mentors were Billy Joel and Elton John.”

out to be a hit, receiving rave reviews from music critics all across North America. The show has even travelled overseas to Dubai, England, Scotland and will be making its premiere this fall in Holland!

Jim still lives in Southern Ontario with his wife, Rebecca, and their four children, James, Roslyn, Ryan and Luke. A devoted family man, Jim is also very active in his community, supporting numerous charities and organizations, especially those which benefit children and their families. “All I’ve ever wanted from this business is to be able to support my family and to make people feel a little better when they hear my music. To help them forget about their troubles for a while and enjoy the moment”, he concludes. “If I can continue doing this 5, 10, 15 years down the road, I’ll be perfectly happy.”

The Wisconsin Lutheran College Theatre Department will present a mainstage production in the Raabe Theatre on Friday, April 19 through Saturday, April 27, 2013.

The production, Bee-luther-hatchee, is the story of Shelita Burns, an African-American editor of books from “rediscovered voices” of the African-American experience. She publishes “Bee-luther-hatchee,” the autobiography of a reclusive 72-year old Southern black woman named Libby Price. Shelita has never met Libby, and when the book wins a prestigious award she decides to deliver the prize to her in person. What follows is a journey of surprises, confrontations, and illuminations that challenge both Shelita and the audience with issues of race, authorship, success and the power of storytelling.

The Wisconsin Lutheran Concert Choir and Chamber Choir will present a Choral Concert, on Friday, May 3 and Saturday May 4, 2013, at 8 p.m. each evening. This select 60-voice choir, under the direction of Dr. James Nowak, performs music from the sixteenth through the twenty-first centuries, sung in original languages. The Chamber Choir, a select 28-voice mixed ensemble taken from the Wisconsin Lutheran Choir, is also under the direction of Dr. James Nowak.

UPCOMING FINE ARTS EVENTS The Wisconsin Lutheran College Music Department will present a Band Concert on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 8 p.m. The Wisconsin Lutheran College Concert Band, under the direction of Professor Terry Treuden, is an ensemble that performs the finest of the wind band literature and presents concerts on the campus and tours regionally and nationally.

The membership in this organization is through a seating audition. The band meets five hours each week while exploring a wide variety of band compositions and arrangements.
