Biogr aphY During December 2012, audiences around North America will be treated to a unique concert experience as the Canadian musical powerhouse Leahy takes the stage for “A Leahy Family Christmas.” Embarking on this tour gives the members of Leahy the chance to share a bit of the magic of the Christmas season that began as children and continues today. These Christmas traditions include not only honoring the sacredness of the season, but also enjoying good food, the company of family and friends, and copious amounts of music. A Leahy Family Christmas will offer audiences a peak through the window of the Leahy home to experience a bit of their holiday traditions, including performances by some of the 30 Leahy grandchildren. Excellent musicians and performers in their own right the next generation of Leahy’s, aged five to sixteen, is guaranteed to leave audiences speechless! Leahy will focus their set-list mainly on Christmas favorites, original seasonal pieces, as well as, typical Leahy fare that audiences have come to love. Moreover, the original music audiences will experience will be fresh and new, as Leahy is in the process of recording their fifth CD. On recent US tours, audiences have learned that these instrumentalists, singers, and dancers – who are also brothers and sisters - bring a rare level of originality and musicianship to the stage. This originality includes music that Leahy writes, arranges, and produces. Known for their unique blend of musical styles and genres, their repertoire is more distinct than ever. The band’s four acclaimed CDs – Leahy, Lakefield, In All Things, and Live – have world-wide sales of over half-a-million copies. Begin your Christmas season with this energetic, family-focused and talented group!

t h e nutc r ac k e r - t h e da n c e fac to r y Act I: Scene One – The Christmas Party Our story opens at a Christmas Party given by the Silberhaus family. Their children, Clara and Fritz, along with other children, anxiously await the arrival of one last guest the mysterious Drosselmeyer. His arrival seems ominous to the children at first, but their fears soon are dispelled as he passes out toys to one and all, and to entertain the adults, sets mechanical dolls into magical lifelike motion. He gives Clara the best present of all, a toy soldier nutcracker. All too soon the party comes to an end, Clara and Fritz are put to bed, as the guests and magical Drosselmeyer leave. Kendra Heath, Mackenzie Janisch, Mikayla Person, Nell Ritchey S PECIA L T HA N K S “What do YOU love about The Nutcracker Miss Tina?” A little 9 year old asked me last week? Hmmm, I thought. My list was long, but it made me think. My students, their families, and the experience as a whole for all of the lives it touches. Nutcracker brings friends and family back to a time where tradition is a time honored way of life. I can’t help but mention some of the traditions we have in putting together the show. Every year Pam Williams, who plays the mother in our show, fills the present boxes with various toys and goodies that surprise the kids every week. They all want different gifts to open to see what she has put in the lovely wrapped packages. We bring, “Special Baby” to every show we have ever done. She is a doll that has been with us since our very first Nutcracker in 1998. Her little face shines brightly under the Christmas tree on stage. I have a gold Nutcracker charm that I wear, and will not take off, until the season is over. Silly as it sounds, it’s sort of like rooting for your favorite football team in your favorite jersey. Some traditions you don’t dare change! Young Auditorium

The most important LOVE of Nutcracker is that it makes you appreciate all of the people involved who help to create this most amazing production. Believe me, this is a group effort. The staff at Young Auditorium is outstanding. David Nees who runs the backstage and coordinates everything back stage, makes my job so much easier, because he is a true professional. Leslie LaMuro, who handles marketing, is a genius. She is able to stretch our marketing budget a long way to keep the advertising going all season. Our clients, who bring their children to class each week and rehearsal every weekend, know the meaning of commitment. We can’t do it without each and everyone one of them. Moms who sew buttons on jackets, and the agonizing task of sewing fingernails on mice costumes is a thankless job, but one that does need to be addressed every year. My staff, which refines choreography, sets choreography, changes choreography and rehearses our dancers, I thank you. It truly takes a small army to do what we do. In closing, I hope you’ll take some extra time this season to enjoy your holiday traditions or create some new ones. We are grateful for your attendance here, and thank you for making The Nutcracker part of your holiday season. See you next year! Sincerely, Tina Hansen The Dance Factory Director

Young Auditorium Annual Appeal 2012
Please consider a donation of $25 or more. Your gift will be matched up to $5,000! If 200 households donate $25 we will reach our goal of raising $10,000. Your end of the year gift plays a critical role in Young Auditorium’s planning for the upcoming season. Each winter the next season is programmed. The success of the Annual Appeal helps us gauge which artists we will be able to present and still maintain a balanced budget. For twenty years Young Auditorium has been southeastern Wisconsin’s home for world class professional performances. As a non-profit auxiliary of UW-Whitewater our program depends on the continued generosity of community members, businesses and foundations. In the past, the Wisconsin Arts Board has played a vital role in supporting Young Auditorium’s more challenging, educational, and enriching programs. Unfortunately, due to the current economic conditions the support we receive from the Wisconsin Arts Board has been drastically reduced. The current funding has declined by over $9,000, a 73% decrease. It is unlikely that the Wisconsin Arts Board will reinstitute past levels of support. We need your help this year to make up the difference! Thanks to a few generous donors, we will be able to match gifts dollar for dollar up to $5,000. Make a gift today and help us meet our $10,000 goal. Please give by requesting a pledge card at 262-472-6224 or give on-line at: www.uww.edu/foundation/give/form.html
