Vol. 15 No. 8 JUNE 2019

It’s finally arrived – summer! The beginning of the summer brought many milestones and celebrations for our family with multiple graduations, Kassidi’s acceptance to graduate school and the successful completion of Kolton’s first year at college. So now that June is here, this momma is hoping for a reprieve from a very hectic schedule! Speaking of a hectic time in life, in this issue we showcase 12 gorgeous brides from Fort Bend. Their weddings are featured, along with a wonderful story on how honeymoon travel has evolved, including an opportunity to win a free honeymoon on page 37 from Alisa Murray Travel. And of course, our cover bride is stunning! Congratulations to all of these newlyweds! Congratulations are also in order for our Kassidi McKayla Kaminski. Fort Bend graduates. Men are Turning to Botox Botox is no longer a treatment just for women. The number of men receiving Botox injections has been rising over the last few years. Many plastic surgeons report that nearly 20% of their Botox clients are male. In fact, the increase in popularity has led to social media coining the term “Brotox”. Men are choosing Botox for several reasons, such as: • Boost their self-esteem by looking younger • Minimize embarrassing excessive sweating • Manage pain related to migraines or TMJ Botox is a minimally invasive procedure, without the need for recovery time. Injections are performed at the doctor’s office, with the patient being able to resume normal activities immediately.

Ladies, bring the man in your life into our office in the month of June. If you both receive Botox, his is FREE! ACCEPTING MOST INSURANCES

Globetrotting By

TM

H

oneymooning has traditionally been a time for newly wedded couples to take time to “get to know each other” by leaving and going away to some secluded place. With this June wedding edition, we share some trending honeymoon ideas that are not so traditional at all.

For couples who want to save money or have kids, and the timing is all “off” for a romantic getaway, there is the Mini Moon, which lasts two days at a local hotel. Or, a Tiny Moon, lasting over the weekend of the ceremony at home with no phones and prepared meals by a private chef.

For couples who love activities, there’s the Adventure Moon. Yes, it’s actually got a name, and it’s a popular trend with young newlyweds. This is where your entire honeymoon is based on discovering a place; it’s people and total submersion into their culture. The Adventure Moon couple might spend their days white water rafting, zip-lining, camping and hiking. Although this can be done anywhere, couples are really interested in Costa Rica, Kenya and The Grand Canyon.

36

JUNE 2019 l TO ADVERTISE: 281.690.4242 l www.fortbendfocus.com

Globetrotting The Mega Moon is not for the faint of heart. This honeymoon lasts a month or even two! This is when a couple explores an entire continent, such as Europe, or jet sets through Southeast Asia through to New Zealand and Tasmania. Multiples is their game with many countries and destinations as varied as the world itself!

The Buddy Moon is when a couple brings their friends to keep the party rolling. The duo might get married in Houston, and then take a week-long stay island hopping with a few other couples from the wedding party.

The Cruising Moon is not exactly what you’re thinking; no, it’s exceptionally better. This honeymoon is often booked on a private yacht complete with staff and chef, and the couple sails around secluded in either ocean or river accommodations. They get to both see and explore a multitude of destinations while unpacking once and settling in each night in their love nest.

The Giving Moon is for couples who want to make an impact with a cause that is near and dear to their hearts. They want to use their time off and away wisely by giving back. In these instances, couples spend their honeymoon in third world countries staying at socially conscious properties that give a portion of their profits back to their communities.

The Driving Moon is what my parents did back in the day when air travel was saved for a big trip. This is touring at its finest with perhaps a car rental of something you’d never actually own, such as a convertible. Stopping in to peruse tiny towns, antiquing and staying at locally owned boutique hotels is the focus for the Driving Moon. There are many luxury inns located off of the California coast and the American West. And of course, you can travel across the pond and drive around the Scottish Highlands or New Zealand’s South Island.

38

The Foodie Moon is just perfect for those who love food. They find that a 12 course tasting menu or a farm to table culinary experience is just their thing. Honeymooning with wine sommeliers and touring vineyards are in many cases a necessity and a much sought-after aspect of their journey. Tuscany, Italy and Spain and of course, the ultimate city of love, Paris, are their itinerary! As society continues to evolve, so do our ideas of what a honeymoon looks like. The latest in what marrying couples are choosing to do with their honeymooning time together reflects a diverse interest in what matters to them. So, no matter what your interests, there’s a honeymoon just for you!

Dad ’s Day: By Emma Watson

A Look Into Dad’s Eyes

W

ith Father’s Day around the corner, a focus on dads and the superheroes they are is important to show them how much we appreciate them. We talked to four Fort Bend dads about what it means to them to be a father, the times they’ve enjoyed with their kids and how they’ve come to raise wonderful families. Here’s what they had to share about their journey through fatherhood.

Matt Neely Matt Neely is the lead Pastor at Parkway United Methodist Church exhibiting his leadership and passion for others. A kind-hearted soul and a wise teacher, Neely has raised his four children and one grandson with love and balance alongside his wife, Ginger. Neely spends his time continuing to raise his own children and enjoying the benefits of being a grandfather.

Noah and Ginger Neely, Jenna Jefferson, Matt Neely, Jessica Jefferson and Grace Neely. Matt Neely, Weston Whitley and Ginger Neely.

Fort Bend Focus: What is your favorite thing to do with your children/grandchildren? Matt Neely:

My favorite thing to do with both my kids and my grandson is to make memories. Whether we’re going to Disney World or just going to dinner and talking across the table, I love being together. FBF: What is your best memory of your children/ grandchildren? MN: My favorite experience with my grandson so far, with him being only two-years-old, was the first time we went to look at Christmas Lights at Santa’s Wonderland. It was just amazing to watch his little blue eyes light up as he saw the millions of Christmas lights out there. FBF: If you could pick one moment, which would say was your proudest moment to be a dad/grandfather? MN: My proudest moment as a father is probably every single time my kids achieve something they had to work really hard for. I enjoy my kids reaching for difficult things and accomplishing them with hard work. My proudest moment as a grandfather has been every time my grandson Weston comes over to our house and always comes looking for me first.

42

FBF: What do you believe is the key to raising and supporting happy, healthy and productive children? MN: Being present. It’s hard to replace that. But also, exposing your kids to the most important things in life and then allowing them to make their own choices. They are their own people, and they have to make their own decisions. Our job was to expose them to that and many other things and then let them become their own people. FBF: In your opinion, what is the greatest part about being a dad/grandfather? MN: It teaches you how to love. Before my kids and grandkids, I think so much of my life revolved around me and what I wanted. But getting married, having kids and now grandkids completely reorients your world. It has literally taught me how to love deeply. FBF: What is one piece of life advice you would give to your kids/grandkids? MN: Live for something bigger than the stuff, the money or the next emotional high. For me that is God, and God has been the glue that helps me understand and prioritize everything else!

JUNE 2019 l TO ADVERTISE: 281.690.4242 l www.fortbendfocus.com

Ray Self FBF: What is your best memory of your children? RS: My best memory of my children is when we would go on family vacations to Destin, Florida. Getting to spend days with them on the beach is relaxing and rewarding. FBF: If you could pick one moment, which would say was your proudest moment to be a dad? RS: I am truly proud whenever my children go out with friends and their families, and I am told how polite and wellmannered they are.

Keenum, Kathryn, Ray and Clif Self.

An Information Technology (IT) Manager and a System, Applications and Product (SAP) Architect, Ray Self has his hands full with two teenage boys. With one in high school and the other in middle school, Self and his wife, Kathryn, juggle all of the boys’ activities along with their own jobs and responsibilities. Self is an inspiring father who manages to support and love his family all while finding time to continue to work hard at what he loves.

Fort Bend Focus:

What is your favorite thing

to do with your children?

Ray Self: My favorite thing to do with my boys is to be outside with them, enjoying the great outdoors and engaging in sporting activities.

FBF: What do you believe is the key to raising and supporting happy, healthy and productive children? RS: Parents have to love each other and be happy in their marriage so that the kids feel supported, comfortable and happy. FBF: In your opinion, what is the greatest part about being a dad? RS: The greatest part about being a dad is enjoying the time with my children and being able to teach them life lessons that I had to learn on my own when I was their age. FBF: What is one piece of life advice you would give to your kids? RS: Enjoy your time to be a kid. Don’t rush into adulthood because it will be there when you graduate high school and college, and you will wish you could go back. Spend time with your family and friends, and don’t grow up too fast.

Taylor Landin Taylor Landin is a fun and loving father who prides himself on being a former Texas Longhorn and the father of three amazing children. He and his wife, Katie, have a spunky boy, Walker, and an adorable set of twins, Beau and Annie. Landin is a man of humor and a dad with an immense amount of love for his children, which he shows them in every way possible.

Fort Bend Focus:

What is your favorite thing

to do with your children?

Taylor Landin: We like to go to the “dinosaur museum” and the zoo. We also like to stay around the house and play in the yard, as well as take a quick walk to play at the local playground. FBF: What is your best memory of your children? TL: I have special memories with all three of our kids and picking one is impossible. The times when we all are playing games together as a family stick with me, along with the rare times that I get to be with them one on one.

Katie, Walker, Beau, Taylor and Annie Landin.

FBF: If you could pick one moment, which would say was your proudest moment to be a dad? TL: The moments when you see them work through a challenging problem or take the lead on something without having to prompt them or guide them are truly gratifying. JUNE 2019 l

43

Taylor Landin Continued

FBF: What do you believe is the key to raising and supporting happy, healthy and productive children? TL: I’m not sure anybody really knows what the key is to raising good kids. I try to be present when I have the opportunity to be with them. It’s also important to let them make mistakes and give them enough space to explore new things. FBF: In your opinion, what is the greatest part about being a dad? TL: Knowing that you have some part in shaping who your children will grow up to be is really fun. Hopefully we model important values that put them on the right path in life.

“Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad.” ~ Wade Boggs

FBF: What is one piece of life advice you would give to your kids? TL: Four simple words: don’t be a jerk.

James Patterson As former Fort Bend county commissioner and retired principal of Dulles and Elkins high schools, James Patterson is a man of abundant wisdom to share and lots of love to go around. Patterson has three lovely children, three grandchildren, one great grandson and another great grandchild on the way. Patterson now enjoys his time with his family and is an inspiring and uplifting individual to everyone he comes in contact with.

Fort Bend Focus: What is your favorite thing to do with your children/grandchildren/great grandchildren? James Patterson: When my grandkids were younger, we would go to our farm and mess with the cows or ride bikes. With my great grandson, we like to take lawn mover and golf cart rides, and since he’s so young, he just sits and looks around, enjoying all that he can see.

FBF: What is your best memory of your great grandchild? JP: The first time I heard him say “Grandpa” was one of the greatest moments I have witnessed, and I was so happy to hear him say my name. FBF: If you could pick one moment, which would say was your proudest moment to be a great grandfather? JP: It’s hard to pick just one, but recently, at Easter Sunday church service, my great grandson was very wellbehaved, and it made me proud to see how attentive and obedient he was being, compared to other children his age who were rowdy and had to leave the service. FBF: What do you believe is the key to raising and supporting happy, healthy and productive children? JP: The key is to be consistent. Everyone needs a little consistency in life and being that source of dependency for your family is important so that they know what to expect and how they should move forward in life. FBF: In your opinion, what is the greatest part about being a dad/grandfather? JP: The admiration that you see from a child that you have had a part in raising is always rewarding. Seeing the pride that your kids, grandkids and great grandkids have for the adults in their life makes you feel loved and accomplished.

Kelly, Ricky and Jamie Holdsworth, Mary Jo and James Patterson with Maritza, Jaxon, Justin, Terry, Holly, Melisa and Brandon Bell.

44

FBF: What is one piece of life advice you would give to your kids/grandkids? JP: Be aware of the things you have. Having good health, a loving family and a great society is a blessing that should not be overlooked. Take a step back and ask yourself, “What’s great about my life?”

As a respected leader, Mock said, “Helping my peers in theatre is rewarding to me because I have the opportunity to give back to the people and the art form that has given me so much and helped shaped my life and future for the better. I will treasure the connections I made with everyone and the stories we were able to tell together on stage.” Mock represented Clements High School at the annual Houston Branch English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition and was awarded Runner Up. He scored a Superior for Duet Acting at the 2017 and 2018 Texas Thespian State Festival and advanced to the International Thespian Festival in 2018 and 2019 where his duet received a perfect score in 2018. He was also awarded an All-Star Cast Award for Best Actor at the 2018 and 2019 University Interscholastic League (UIL) One Act Play District 20-6A Competition. Mock’s talent is strengthened by strong values. A quote that he lives by

is from acclaimed German theatre director and writer Bertolt Brecht. “Art is not a mirror held up to reality but a hammer with which to shape it.” Mock explained, “As an actor, and therefore by extension, an artist, it is my duty to help shape the world into a better place. All theatre is propaganda for a better life, and by telling a story effectively on stage, I can impact my audience and inspire them to go out and change the world.” When he’s not onstage, Mock swims for the Sweetwater Surfers Swim Team where he has been an All Star Medalist and was a two year Varsity swimmer on the Clements High School Swim Team. He earned Academic All District and was a two time district medalist in Breast Stroke. Mock was accepted and received Theater Performance scholarship offers from: Fordham University, Rutgers, SUNY Purchase, Northeastern University, Cal Arts, University of Evansville, University of Minnesota, University of Cincinnati College of Music, The New School, University of Nebraska, University of Houston and Oklahoma City University. He will be attending Fordham University Lincoln Center in New York City this fall and will major in Theatre Performance. Congratulations Ethan Mock for your generous contributions and admirable talent. We look forward to watching you continue to shape the world into a better place in your future. Photo by Carrie Pacini.

lements High School continues to graduate the highest caliber of students ready to take the next step to further their education. Ethan Mock, a graduated senior who has achieved an impressive resume of accomplishments in academics, extracurricular activities and sports, is ready to make an impact in society in his future. Mock has taken Advanced Placement classes throughout his high school career and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He is a four-year Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) Academic Excellence Award Recipient, a member of the National Honor Society and a National Hispanic Scholar. Mock received the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Commended student recognition and is a member of the International Thespian Honor Society. He served as Treasurer of Troupe 3689. His forte is theater; he was awarded a Texas Thespian Scholarship through a grant from The Educational Theatre Association that recognizes student achievement in theatre. Over 300 Texas high school seniors competed for this scholarship, and Mock was awarded the honor at the annual Texas Thespian State Festival. Mock’s favorite teacher was his acting teacher from the 2018 Boston University Summer Theatre Institute, Jeremy Ohringer. “While I had been studying acting for roughly six years at that point, no teacher was able to connect with me as Jeremy did. He was able to break my acting down in a way that no one else had, and the techniques and lessons I learned in his class are going to sustain me throughout my career.”

Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Opens 24/7 Obstetrical Emergency Center Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital has opened a 24/7 Obstetrical Emergency Center, giving expectant mothers and families in the area round-the-clock access to specialized care. “The needs of mother and baby in a medical emergency can vary drastically and may be impacted by any number of unique factors that aren’t present in a typical adult or pediatric emergency room visit,” said Teresa Criswell, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land. “Our OB Emergency Center gives patients immediate access to a physician and staff who can best meet their healthcare needs.” The Memorial Hermann Sugar Land OB Emergency Center is covered 24 hours a day, seven days a week with dedicated nurses and a McGovern Medical School at UTHealth OB/GYN hospitalist. Beyond providing immediate care, the OB Emergency Center staff will consult, coordinate and communicate with the patient’s OB/GYN when possible. “In order to provide the best care possible, it’s really important to work with a patient’s dedicated OB/GYN to gain a better overall understanding of all health aspects to the pregnancy,” Criswell said. “That interaction with the patient’s OB/ GYN ultimately ensures the best possible outcome for the mother and the baby.” Patients should notify their OB/GYN prior to coming to the OB Emergency Center, if possible. Common reasons to visit the OB Emergency Center are suspected pre-term labor; vaginal bleeding; complications related to high-risk pregnancy; infection and pelvic and abdominal pain. An average of 150 pregnant patients visit the Memorial Hermann Sugar Land obstetrical triage each month. Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Women’s and Children’s Services includes a high-risk pregnancy clinic at The Family Birthing Center and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 24-hour neonatal coverage. The hospital has also been designated as a Texas Ten Step facility each of the last eight years for its efforts to support the health of breastfeeding mothers and their children. If a higher level of care is needed, patients have direct access maternal-fetal medicine specialists at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital and Red Duke Trauma Institute at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. To schedule an appointment or learn more about Women’s Services at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, call 713222-CARE (2273). Oenophile By Denman Moody

Chateau Margaux and the 1855 Red Bordeaux Classification

T

his month, I digress from the great American wine estates. For a historical understanding of red Bordeaux wines, one must be familiar with the 1855 Classification, almost all being from the Médoc, or left bank, which is where most of all the great Bordeaux reds were produced at that time. In 1855, based upon the prices each of the best wines had fetched in previous years, the classification was established. The best of the best were called Premier Cru, or first estate. The four named were Chateau Lafite-Rothschild, Chateau Latour, Chateau Margaux and Chateau Haut-Brion. In one of the only two changes since, Chateau Mouton-Rothschild was elevated to a Premier Cru in 1973, with a Picasso label that year to boot! Unknown even to most oenophiles, even by the mid-1700s, the first four were recognized as the greatest Bordeaux wines. And, a particular portion of the Chateau Margaux vineyard called the Cap de Haut was one of the early parcels to receive great acclamation. Since the vast majority of Americans were still basically clueless about the great wines of the world, even in 1973 when Mouton became a Premier Cru, translated First Growth, the prices at auction were ridiculously low by today’s standards. To show the unbelievable increase in value of one wine – Chateau Lafite-Rothschild 1870 from the Glamis Castle Cellar in Scotland, that I was able to enjoy in the early 1980s – was valued at about $2,500 at that time. Several sold at auction in 2001 for $25,000 per magnum, and

today, I wouldn’t be surprised if one sold for $100,000. Chateau Margaux began losing some of its other-worldly reputation when the then owners, the Ginestet family, began having financial problems in the early 1970s. They did their best, but with waning income, along with the vintages of 1973 and 1974, “the unwanted orphans of a shattered market-place” forced them to sell. A sale was affected in 1977 to André Mentzelopoulos, the majority owner of a huge grocery business. He had the foresight to hire Emile Peynaud, the leading wine consultant of France at that time. After his untimely death, his wife and daughter Corinne took over, retained Peynaud and everything began to return to their former heralded status. My love affair with Chateaux Margaux was engendered by a dinner held in November of 1983 at Charlie’s 517 Restaurant in Houston hosted by Houston oenophiles Bill Sharman and Lenoir Josey. Guests of honor were Corinne Mentzelopoulos, her mother and Emile Peynaud. The five-course dinner was accompanied by 38 vintages of Chateau Margaux, including almost every great vintage from 1981 back to 1875! The most exciting decade for me was the 20s: 1929, 1928, 1926, 1924, 1921 and 1920. As an aside, when previewing the wines to be served prior to the event, I noticed that the great 1928 – ‘28 and ‘29 were two of the greatest contiguous vintages – was missing, so I contributed a magnum from my cellar. Two other fabled contiguous vintages, 1899 and 1900, were served, and to me, this was the absolute highlight of the evening. We were scoring on a scale of 20 being the highest at the time, and I gave the 1899 a 19.5 and the 1900 a 20! Professor Peynaud admired the 1900 as “very well kept, round, firm, full of finesse and lots of fragrance. The ’99 is more supple with less tannin. Just as good as the 1900 but in a different way.” In looking over my article written at the time, I revisited one of my favorite wine notes about the 1961 Chateau Margaux at this tasting, “Power, charm, majesty, elegance. This wine is so fabulous, it makes one wonder how so many of the others got such a high score. Actually, there is a great chasm between a 17.5 and a 20. The 1961 Margaux is, along with Petrus, Palmer and Mouton, a perfect 20, although definitely of a different style. Whereas the Petrus and Palmer are almost overpowering, and the Mouton is enthralling in its strength, the Margaux, even though powerful and rich, is uniquely beguiling and seductive.” As a surprise ending, my wife and I celebrated my 45th birthday dinner at Chateau Margaux on April 27, 1987.

Living the Sweet Life:

Making Love Nests Also worth mentioning is the bio drive coming from the puffer fish and the bowerbird. The puffer makes a symmetrical drawing the sand, creating perfect lines, and when the female

decides to lay her eggs, she does so by choosing the center of his piece of art in the sand! Like the puffer, the bowerbird collects shiny objects and builds a beautiful nest filled with decorations. They bring in fresh flowers and are owners of the ultimate bachelor pad. When I discovered what the real deal was with snails, well it made more sense as to the sheer number of them in my garden. Did you know that snails are hermaphrodites, and they both become pregnant when mating? So strange. They actually each have a sharp organ that they stab each other with to deliver sperm called a “love dart.” Hmmmm, I sure wonder what that would be like. I would feel like a super hero for sure! www.onekindplanet.org

adies and gentlemen, it’s June again and time for Fort Bend Focus’ wedding issue. The styles we have in wooing one another could not be more diverse. Some are attracted to shiny castles and presents, while others are content as can be with a simple hand held. What turns us “on” is a magnificent study in human nature and bio diversity. Interesting still, is just how much there is to be learned from the similarities and differences we have with animals. While completing my BS in Psychology, I spent a great deal of time studying sexual behaviors, both “normal” and “deviant.” The lengths to which we go to secure a mate, especially once love and affection have been requited, are very interesting indeed. Men and women alike have been written about and studied as if we are complicated creatures having our gestures for affection analyzed for decades. It would seem to be pretty easy – right? The start-up is the most difficult part as you’ll discover when talking to old married couples. They have it all down pat neat and tidy in the business of love and affection. The young ones are too busy to even analyze because they are, well, you know, making whopee! Socially speaking, humans are dependent exclusively on time and place. Defining our roles for mating are as a result constantly changing. These roles dictate the way the sexes play out, but funny enough, the results will always be the same. The animal kingdom is where I find the rules do not change. They keep on clear and steadfast in their roles for centuries without waiver. Take for example the very fabulous performance of the dolphin. Humpback male dolphins go to the sea floor and present flowers in the form of sea sponges, balancing them on their noses and flipping and catching them on their tails as a means to let the female know of their interest. For this behavior, it appears that they are rewarded by the ability to have sex year-round and not just during a particular season in the sea. Men, are you listening? Take note! Why yes, you too could possibly score if you’d show up to home base with some petals from time to time.

Bend. For several hours a week, she unselfishly gives her free time to make people smile. “Toys for Tots is my second full-time job for three months during the holiday season. Our program starts October 1st, and we go well into the first of the year. So many things are going on during this time – boxes being dropped off at the drop sites, public and private events happening all over, picking up full boxes and getting everything sorted. After all that, we have distribution for the families. I love every minute of it. There are no words to describe the delighted faces of the children when they are given a gift. A few years ago, we had a lady come to our office looking for toys for her kids. She told me she was sent by her case worker. I explained that distribution had been held a few days prior. She sadly told me thank you and turned to leave. Something told me that she really needed help. I asked her for her children’s ages and gender and told her to wait outside, and I’d pull some things. She smiled and said anything will help. We pulled some toys for her and took them outside. When we had finished loading, she hugged me tight, sobbing her thank you. All the late nights and weekends lost make it all worth it when you have just one of these experiences.” Thank you Gina Huber for your generosity and commitment to the residents of Fort Bend County. Your devotion and time will never be forgotten. Photo by Andi Wallace.

is a way of life for the generous souls of Fort Bend County who devote their time to volunteering. For our Hometown Hero, Gina Huber, the hours and years given to support those in need is part of who she is. With her work and commitment, Fort Bend continues to be the best place to live and grow in Texas. Huber has lived in Fort Bend County almost all of her life and works for First Colony Community Services Association as a Project Coordinator. She and her sister Tina were raised by a hardworking, single mother. Huber recalled, “She’s the person who taught me most about giving. Gina Huber. She often said there were always people who had less than us, and I guess that lesson has stuck with me.” In high school, Huber was involved in Key Club and really enjoyed it. She spent time doing many things, but the one that stuck out the most was the evenings playing bingo at the Veterans home in their town. She has an incredibly supportive boyfriend, Jason Bradley who volunteers along with her as much as he can. Ten years ago, Huber saw a story about the Lone Star Exchange Club hosting an event called Walk with Pride. She was curious, sent an email to Tracey Shaw and never looked back. She met some of the most incredible people, most of whom she now considers to be family. Huber mentored with the Exchange Club of Rosenberg, which is comprised of clients from Texana Center. “Exchange has service projects that are performed,” said Huber. “It could be sorting donations, working on an awareness field, helping serve seniors at a baseball game, building a playground or helping rework landscape. Mentoring Rosenberg is one of my favorites. It allows me to show people that just because someone has a disability, doesn’t mean they have an inability.” In addition to her work with Lone Star Exchange Club, Huber is also the Assistant Coordinator for Toys for Tots Fort
