‘History in making’ at Constellation Field

Republican Party of Texas (RPT) State Convention, currently scheduled for June 7-9 in Fort Worth, and to consider resolutions or statements on policy issues to send to the State Convention for eventual inclusion in the state and national party platform. As a result of the substantial changes to the election calendar in 2012, the Fort Bend County Republican Party will not be conducting precinct conventions after the May 29th Primary Election, but will be incorporating all party business into the Senatorial District Conventions on April 21. All attendees will be seated by precinct and will vote their precinct strength. Furthermore, all attendees have the right to seek to become a state delegate, and to bring forth resolutions for consideration by the convention. The convention will be open to all registered Republican voters. Because we are
Voters will get new registration cards New voter registration certificates will soon be mailed to all active registered voters in Fort Bend County. The new cards will be yellow and white in color and are valid until December 31, 2013. They will replace the current blue & white cards, which expired on December 31, 2011. Normally replacement certificates would have been mailed in December, but the process was delayed due to litigation over Texas redistricting, says John Oldham, Fort Bend County election administrator.
Cards will be mailed over several days with the last scheduled to be mailed on Friday, April 6, Oldham said. All active voters in the county should receive the new card. Any voter who does not receive a card by mid April should contact the Elections Department at 281-341-8670 or by email: vote@co.fortbend.tx.us. Voters should sign and retain their new certificate, and are encouraged to check the information for accuracy. Registered voters who have moved,
or had a name change, should notify the Elections Department, in writing, to update their records. A current Voters certificate, a Texas Drivers License, or other form of identification is required to vote in Texas. The deadline to register to vote, or for a voter to update an existing registration, in order to be eligible to participate in the May 12, 2012 City and School Election is April 12, 2012. In order to vote in the May 29 Primary election, a voter must be registered by April 30, 2012.

Area sales tax collections rise By BARBARA FULENWIDER Sales tax payments from the state comptroller to all towns in Fort Bend County have increased so far this year over the same period in 2011 and in most cases by a considerable amount. The first quarter of 2012 shows that Meadows Place, Missouri City, Richmond, Rosenberg, Stafford and Sugar Land all increased their sales tax deposits in March as well as the first quarter of this year. Of those six towns Meadows Place saw the biggest increase at 30.45 percent for March over the same month a year ago, and 15.68 percent this quarter over the first three months of 2011. Sugar Land followed with the second highest March 2012 to March 2011 comparison.
This year Sugar Land collected $3,189,798 compared to $2,458,167 last year or 29.76 percent more. The town’s quarterly sales tax collections also got a big boost of 16.59 percent with $11,931,725 collected the first three months this year compared to $10,233,640 for the same three months last year. Missouri City’s March 2011 collection to March 2012 increased by 10.42 percent or $398,301 to $439,835. First quarter collections also increased by 6.17 percent or from $1,493,093 in 2011 to $1,585,344 this year.
