All sports have had legendary battles between two athletes, Ali versus Frazier, Larry Bird versus Magic Johnson and then there is Cody Ohl versus Fred Whitfield. Ohl and Whitfield have both accepted an invitation to match rope at the 2014 Fort Bend County Fair. The match roping between these two gigantic, multi world champion cowboys is set for Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Eight-time world champion Joe Beaver will be calling the action. All three men have had their share of magical moments in the arena and countless accolades bestowed upon them for their calf roping talents. Ohl and Whitfield have squared off in a Challenge of Champions match roping at our fair in 2004. Ohl won the bragging rights that night and leads in other matches between the two, but Whitfield edges him out in career Gold Buckles. Whitfield has won 8 world titles to Ohl’s 6. A sick calf in the 9th round of the 2013 National Finals Rodeo robbed Ohl of a Gold Buckle and left fans in disbelief. “I don’t care if we are pitching washers, when you have those three names involved you don’t want to lose,” says Ohl about competing in the match roping in the county where he grew up. Whitfield is no stranger to Fort Bend County and won the PRCA calf-roping title in 2012 . He says, “It could be the 10th round at the NFR or a game at the carnival we are all

Rosenberg woman sentenced to life for killing three-month-old baby Kelley Lynn Gann pled guilty on Tuesday, June 24, and was sentenced to life without parole for the capital murder of a three-month-old baby girl. The 32-year-old Rosenberg woman was indicted for causing the death of a child in her care in 2012. The investigation was conducted by the Rosenberg Police Department under the supervision of Assistant Chief Tracie Dunn, who was a lieutenant at the time. The evidence revealed that Gann was babysitting an infant on October 24, 2012. Shortly before the baby was to be picked up by her mother, Gann called 911 and reported the child was not breathing. Doctors who examined the baby at Oak Bend Medical Center immediately recognized that the infant had sustained multiple skull fractures. Former Galveston County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Stephen Pustilnik, now in private practice, performed an autopsy on the baby, who was three days shy of turning four months old. The autopsy report indicated that the baby died from blunt force trauma to her head and the medical findings indicated multiple impacts to the baby’s head had occurred. “Many people worked together to get justice for this innocent baby”, said District Attorney John Healey. “The Rosenberg Police Department did an excellent job on this heart-wrenching case.” Suzy Morton, Chief of the District Attorney’s Office Child Abuse Division, also
