Hannah Giles of ACORN sting fame to visit Sugar Land

Early voting begins Monday Early voting begins across Texas on Monday, October 19, including 15 locations within Fort Bend County. Early Voting sites are scattered throughout the county and are near to the major commuter routes used by Fort Bend County Residents. Eligible voters of Fort Bend County may vote at any of the 15 early voting sites and, unlike absentee voting by mail, no reason need be given for voting early. In the November 2008 election over 75 percent of the nearly 206,000 voters

casting ballots in Fort Bend County did so before the polls opened on Election Day. This year, all voters will be eligible to cast ballots on eleven proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Information about the proposed amendments prepared by the Texas Legislative Council is available via a link from the Fort Bend County Elections web page. Voters who live within the corporate city limits of the city of Houston will also be voting for municipal officers. Several Municipal Utility Districts will also be

conducting elections. Identification is required in order to vote early or on Election Day. Voters should be prepared to show their voter registration certificate or Texas driver’s license, or other form of ID before voting. A complete list of the county’s Early Voting sites may be found at the County’s election website, www. fortbendvotes.org. Other important election information, including Election Day polling places and sample ballots is also available on line.

By SESHADRI KUMAR Hannah Giles will be the featured speaker at the Spirit of Freedom Republican Women’s Club meeting on Nov. 21 at the Sugar Creek County Club in Sugar Land. She is the journalist behind the ACORN prostitution/tax evasion sting and she shot into national fame after the series of telecasts of her sting footage. Giles, 20, a college student who became interested in exposing social injustice and the abuses of power, is the granddaughter of Sam and Terese Raia of Sugar Land. Terese Raia is a well-known conservative, active in state and local politics and she is a member of the state Republican executive committee as well as a local precinct chair. “Sam and I are very proud of Hannah.
