sustainability
Is it possible to contribute to environmental sustainability while on holiday? If you’ve chosen to relax at Forte Village, the answer is a resounding yes. Proud of the recent World’s Leading Resort award received at the World Travel Awards 2023 gala ceremony , we at Forte Village once more confirm the uniqueness of our product offering.
But that's not all—we've also achieved another remarkable milestone: certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council , the world’s foremost authority on sustainable tourism. This certification is a testament to our commitment to meeting the highest standards in sustainability, not just environ-
mentally, but also culturally and socially. “This accolade motivates us to strengthen our commitment regarding future generations,” stated Lorenzo Giannuzzi , Forte Village Managing Director. “Promoting sustainability, reducing environmental impact, enhancing the value of the local cultural heritage and maximising social and economic benefits are unquestionable objectives for us.”
While our breathtaking natural surroundings—over 50 hectares of lush parkland and Sardinia’s crystal-clear sea—along with 8 luxurious hotels , 13 private villas , exquisite multi-starred cuisine , world-class wellness programmes , unique Sport Academies ,
and countless family activities have all played a vital role in earning us this global recognition, what truly sets us apart is our deep commitment to sustainability and environmental care. Beyond offering unmatched comfort and well-being to our guests, we are dedicated to the health of the planet. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel it: a diverse array of plant species welcomes you, expanding each year thanks to the tireless work of our gardeners, who carefully protect and nurture this delicate ecosystem.
At Forte Village, we are committed to respecting and protecting the local environment through initiatives that actively involve both guests and staff. From energy-saving measures and

waste sorting to the creation of a dam that allows us to conserve, purify, and reuse water for irrigating our gardens, sustainability is at the core of our operations. Our photovoltaic plant powers the Convention Centre and 200 guest rooms independently, and energy-efficient LED lighting with timers is used in all common areas and gardens. Additionally, Hotels Borgo, Palme, and Bouganville benefit from solar panels that provide hot water. We support the local economy and culture through a farm-to-table philosophy, using locally sourced raw ingredients and fresh produce from our very own vegetable garden, ensuring a daily supply of high-quality fruits and vegetables.
In line with our green initiatives, we offer eco-friendly transportation options, including electric bicycles and golf carts for getting around the resort, and have installed charging stations for electric cars. Our dedication to sustainability also extends to future generations, as we believe that education and sustainability go hand in hand. That’s why we established the Hotel Business School in collaboration with Luiss Business School in Rome, to train Italian and international students aspiring to work in luxury hospitality . In just a few years, they will be the ones welcoming you to Forte Village.
Our commitment to sustainability is further exemplified through our part -
nership with Ogyre, an Italian startup dedicated to cleaning our seas by recovering waste caught in fishing nets during open sea operations. This collaboration reflects our broader mission to not only care for our guests but also protect the environment for generations to come.
Towards a revolution in prevention and wellness
A mobile clinic for women’s health: the project endorsed by Forte Village is now underway.
Health is the cornerstone of our well-being, deeply influencing how we experience and enjoy life. In the pursuit of a serene and fulfilling life, prevention plays a crucial role. With this in mind, a new initiative has emerged in women's health: "The Prevention Camper" project, which combines Forte Village’s renowned hospitality with the vital goal of promoting prevention and women's well-being. Recent statistics show that approximately one in nine women will face a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, but early prevention significantly reduces the chances of this happening. To address this need, the fundraising campaign for “The Prevention Camper” was launched by the association "Embracing a Dream," led by Maria Dolores Palmas. In just a few months, the campaign has gained significant momentum and support.
The camper will not merely be a vehicle equipped for screenings but will offer complete service that supports prevention and women’s health on the island. Equipped with advanced equipment for mammographies and ultrasound scanning, it is a tangible response to the need for prevention in the island’s most remote areas where access to hospital facilities is often problematic or limited.
With a medical reporting room, an access ramp to ensure inclusivity, an internet connection which facilitates information processing, a sanitisation system and a defibrillator, the camper was designed to deal with any situation, including emergencies.
This project represents a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to support and protect the well-being of Sardinian women, a process that began in
2020 with a fundraising campaign . In just 18 months, this campaign made it possible to purchase a new mammography unit, which has been in operation at the Radiology Department of Businco Hospital in Cagliari since October 2022.. Numerous initiatives have already contributed to making this fourwheel dream come true and many more will be launched in the months to come. From the Pink Walk , an all-female 5-kilometre march, the Pink Day with a discussion panel on prevention and a themed aperitif and the Solidarity Lottery to dedicated sports tournaments, each event was a vehicle in which solidarity has been transformed into action. Here the community showed how each contribution is fundamental for making a difference and building a future of well-being and prevention together.
Welcome to Cagliari and Europe's mostislandbeautiful
Trust the readers of Condè Nast Traveller, the world’s most prestigious and authoritative magazine dedicated to travel: Sardinia is Europe’s best island! It’s not hard to imagine why, considering the 2000 kilometres of coastline looking over one of the most enchanting seas ever and the countless historical and cultural sights which make Sardinia the perfect destination for your next trip. And there is no better place than its capital to start enjoying and discovering all this extraordinary beauty. In other words, welcome to Cagliari!
When you’re travelling and you haven’t got much time, there is only one rule: don’t waste any more of it. As soon as you land at the Cagliari airport call a taxi and have it take you right away to the Castello Quarter
Did you know that the city of Cagliari was built on twelve hills? Over the years they were flattened, but on one of them emerged the Castello Quarter, an ancient Pisan stronghold, which later became Aragonese and then Spanish. The name Casteddu originates precisely here. You are right in the middle of the city’s historic district and if you look around, you will discover the quarter’s defence towers. What you must know about the San Pan-
crazio tower is that it was built in only two days and was used as a maximum-security prison for a long period of time. The second, the Campanaria tower, which you will see instead from above, is famous for housing Sardinia’s largest bell. From this point, it is impossible not to have a look at Cagliari’s most important religious site, the Cathedral of Santa Maria. Its exterior offers a mixture of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles, while inside a sumptuous and rich collection of architectural relics awaits you. Inside you will find one of the most famous places of worship in the
entire region, the Crypt of the Martyrs
We are moving from one quarter to another, towards Stampace, where you may observe the Piedmont baroque style of the church of Sant’Anna, and along the streets of the Marina Quarter, one of the four historic quarters overlooking the city harbour. Speaking of views and the sea, one that cannot be missed is the breathtaking panorama from the Saint Remy Bastion. Built between 1896 and 1902, this imposing and spectacular building is made of white and yellow limestone col-
umns with Corinthian-style capitals. The view from the Umberto I Terrace is second to none and here you can enjoy a panorama of the entire city and the wonderful crystal-clear Sardinian sea.
After so many artistic and cultural delights, now it’s time to enjoy Sardinia’s food and wine excellence. The fateful moment has arrived in which we must taste Sardinian cuisine at the San Benedetto market, Italy’s largest covered market and one of Europe’s biggest, the place where culture meets local gastronomy. Here, amidst the market stalls, you will discover the fragrances that invite passers-by and tourists to enjoy the flavours of authentic local cuisine: enjoy!
And the Sardinian sea? It can wait a little longer. Because first we must take some snapshots of the Holy Well of Santa Cristina, an architectural expression of the Nuraghic civilisation dating back almost 3000 years, the Necropolis of Tuvixeddu, one of the largest historical monumental areas in the Mediterranean, the Basilica
of Bonaria, Sardinia’s most important Catholic shrine, and the natural beauty of the Botanic Garden with plant species from all over the world.
And now, it’s time for the sea. In other words: Poetto beach, a long strip of sand 8 kilometres long, looking onto the crystal-clear light blue sea. Changing colour, not far outside of the city, we find the nature reserve of the Molentargius Saltworks, where pink flamingos nest. Here, mankind and the environment reach a perfect state of harmony, amongst stretches of water and the vestiges of the old saltworks. One of the most important sites on the Mediterranean, the park still preserves traces of its past shown by the intriguing buildings of the first City of Salt.
And now that the sun has set, where to spend the night in Cagliari? →

Pleasure before business.
Palazzo Doglio is more than a luxury retreat—it is also a premier business and events venue. Located in the heart of Cagliari, Palazzo Doglio embodies elegance, well-being,
and the finest expressions of art, culture, and cuisine. Seamlessly integrated into one of the city’s historic quarters, it plays a pivotal role in the area’s urban renewal, contributing to Cagliari’s transformation. Originally destroyed during World War II and later rebuilt in stages, the grand building has preserved its spirit as a public and institutional gathering place. This legacy is celebrated in Doglio Court, a landmark square that has become a focal point for exclusive events and philanthropic initiatives. The square is also home to four distinguished restaurants that have hosted notable events, such as “Starry Nights,” featuring world-renowned chefs like Carlo Cracco, Heinz Beck, Cristina Bowerman, and Andrea Berton. Another standout event, "Arte in Tavola" (Art on the Table), saw dishes inspired by the Ingrao Collection of Cagliari’s Municipal Gallery. Palazzo Doglio’s commitment extends beyond hospitality. Through initiatives like fundraising for the regional AIRC committee and the oncology hospital in Cagliari , it plays an active role in supporting the local community, raising funds to purchase essential medical equipment.
Palazzo Doglio is more than a hotel.

Oprah Winfrey @ Palazzo Fiuggi

DNA: The key to a longer life
Palazzo Fiuggi’s new project coordinated by geneticist Giuseppe Novelli
DNA is the human body’s blueprint, an essential tool for exploring our past, present and future. The sequences of the genome contain vital information about each individual’s longevity, health and well-being.
With its new programme “ Health, Prevention, Genome”, Palazzo Fiuggi renews its commitment to promoting the approach of prevention to reduce disease and enhance quality of life, confirming itself as one of the most prestigious medical retreats in the world.
In a breathtaking natural setting renowned for its healing waters, premium medical services and pioneering
genome analysis go hand-in-hand. The project, which reflects Palazzo Fiuggi’s innovative outlook based on the principles of personalised medicine, is coordinated by Dr Giuseppe Novelli, Full Professor of Medical Genetics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, in collaboration with the Medical Genetics Laboratory of the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention (Faculty of Medicine and Surgery University of Rome Tor Vergata), and the Tor Vergata General Hospital (Rome).
Palazzo Fiuggi’s own expert physicians team up with Giuseppe Novelli, world renowned geneticist and active researcher of genetic variations associated with the risk of developing
complex diseases, who leads the trailblazing analysis process used to examine a guest’s entire genome. The goal is to seek mutations or anomalies that can be associated to a genetic or hereditary disease, and to provide information on the individual’s nutritional needs and the body’s response to specific drugs
“Researching and examining this data allows us to define a more appropriate therapy for each patient,” explains Novelli. “That is why we created a clinical process subject to constant supervision by our medical team, with the goal of assisting the guest, and responding in real time to his or her every need at any given moment.”

When I founded Healing Holidays, my intention was to create a major tour operator specialising in wellness and European spas, setting us apart from our competitors and focusing on the serious side of wellness. I believe that our knowledge and level of specialisation of our experts are the two key attributes for creating a successful wellness company.
Can you tell us where your passion for wellness came from and how this shaped your career, making you become an expert in this field?
I have always been interested in wellness. I have always been fascinated by the new developments in modern medicine as well as in the wisdom of ancient, traditional medicine . A few years ago, my health problems pushed me to immerse myself more deeply in
this world, and to see how powerful the effects can be if the two kinds of medicine work in synergy.
What are the wellness trends to keep an eye on in 2024?
Biohacking is the new frontier, with genome and DNA testing on the rise, while Artificial Intelligence has become an integral part of everyday life.
I believe the common thread is that people want to take care of their health and get the best possible diagnosis with the right action plan in order to have a healthier lifestyle
It’s not about living longer, it's about maintaining a healthier mind and body to age well.
How do you think the luxury wellness world will evolve and what transformations might we see in the next few years?
I believe the luxury world should combine the relaxation and the enhanced mental well-being typical of a break with the body’s natural ability to heal , while relying on the best medical specialists for state-of-theart diagnoses.
Wellness has now been incorporated into our annual programme: customers want the best available care and will not compromise when it comes to their health. This is our true wealth.
How did you discover Palazzo Fiuggi and what sets it apart from other retreats?
I had heard of it and knew it was one to watch. When I went to see it, I immediately saw its enormous potential in the wellness world. The property’s beautiful location and breathtaking views was a huge plus as was its careful renovation. But most importantly, it proved its potential with the wide variety of its product offering and the quality of its experts. When an esteemed physician like Professor David Della Morte Canosci leads the team, you can rest assured that Palazzo Fiuggi is a remarkable place.
In your opinion, how does Heinz Beck’s s culinary contribution at Palazzo Fiuggi enhance the wellness experience and is it consistent with the retreat's wellness philosophy?
Making sure you get the right nutrition
without compromising on taste and flavour is very important in any wellness trip. I believe that the concept of wellness developed by Heinz Beck and his team for Palazzo Fiuggi takes the benefits offered by Fiuggi to a higher level. Guests can eat healthily and savour every bite knowing that their wellness goals are being fully achieved.
How do the medical services at Palazzo Fiuggi complement the overall wellness product offering and contribute to the well-being of guests?
Palazzo Fiuggi offers a multidimensional approach to well-being, combining advanced diagnostics with thoughtfully designed programmes in a beautifully aesthetic and rewarding setting. The
focus is on physical as well as emotional well-being, something we all need. There are trips to the countryside, yoga courses and sound healing; the top fitness experts and a caring staff are there to help you reach your wellness goals. No effort is too great for them. I know, because I have put them to the test with several of our most demanding customers.
Which element or aspect of the Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa in Forte Village impressed you most?
It may seem obvious but the variety of thalassotherapy pools available at Forte Village are a distinctive feature. Having six pools, each with a different concentration of saltiness and temperature, makes our thalassotherapy offering unique and very special. And being able to offer a private spa area for the exclusive use of a family or a group of friends is another great advantage. With a marvellous fitness area and fantastic treatments, it is the perfect place to enhance your wellbeing.
What is your favourite treatment at the Acquaforte?
I have always believed strongly in the benefits of cryotherapy , so undoubtedly it would be cryotherapy treatment with sea oil.
What is the best advice on well-being you have ever been given?
It’s never too late to improve your health.
The wellness revolution
Discovering Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa
If we take a moment to look around, we find ourselves deep in a small earthly paradise , where local vegetation gracefully blends with other plants from all four corners of the globe. A place where harmony between mind and body reigns supreme. It feels as if we are in the Tropics but we are at Forte Village, in the Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa wellness centre. The centre offers all our guests, both old and new, a fresh experience in a fully renovated space featuring more intense and engaging wellness pathways. The structure
has been enriched by the addition of precious elements such as travertine, Orosei marble with its characteristic fossilised shells and corals, and natural Sardinian stone. A new look that has been harmoniously woven into the history and philosophy of the Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa : an island within an island, far away from the impact of humans and totally immersed in Forte Village’s dense vegetation. A feeling of peace and well-being will sweep over you as you cross the entrance, where the white noise of the cascading fountain and the delicate hues of the wooden decor give you a
warm welcome. Inside, true magic explodes in a tropical park where nature reigns supreme. The paths lead to open-air marine mud therapy cabins, the Performance Center with its cutting-edge sports equipment, the Ayurvedic park and the Thalasso circuit pools.
In a word, thalassotherapy at the Forte Village spa is unique. The proximity of the location to the sea maximises the healing benefits, considering that the seawater in the Gulf of Santa Margarita has a higher salinity level than the Mediterranean Sea. This way, the water is treated as it is in the saltworks to
obtain sea oil , one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory and detoxifying agents found in nature. The naturally high flotation level makes the pools ideal for rehabilitation purposes, and perfect for physiotherapy. The detoxifying effect, the production of endorphins and the anti-inflammatory action are ultimately the perfect combination for reinforcing the immune system
To ensure a premium experience, the Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa medical team has developed a series of exclusive treatments: the native salt exfoliating treatment effectively prevents
skin ageing, while the honey and salt massage and the marine mud treatment activated with sea oil have a detoxifying action with aesthetic and therapeutic benefits. Cryotherapy with sea oil is ideal for skin circulation and tone whereas “ Heavenly Legs ” is an important vascular exercise that stimulates microcirculation.
A private spa with four pools completes the proposal, in which guests can enjoy the remarkable benefits of seawater enhanced by thalassotherapy. It also includes a treatment room, hammam, solarium, emotional shower, and Kneipp mini-pathway with a
private entrance and reception area. An enjoyable experience for couples, families or even on your own, for total relaxation and regenerative well-being . But the true added value of this place lies in its staff, such as Johanna Hakimova , biologist, specialist in bioaesthetics and natural healing who proposes a series of treatments linked to the bio-lifting method. Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa is more than a thalassotherapy pathway or a 5-star beauty treatment . It is a revolution in the concept of wellness, waiting to be discovered. At Forte Village , of course.
Dreams come true
Children’s Wonderland, Forte Village for kids
AReady to discover the magical world of Forte Village for kids? Children’s Wonderland, the resort’s own enchanted garden, is a miniature oasis divided into different thematic areas, where kids can grow in the company of new friends, develop as individuals and have a great time.
All of this takes place just steps away from the sea. Mario’s Village is a play area for children over the age of 3. It is a real village offering children’s play activities, a restaurant, a supermarket, a theatre, a music house, a newsroom, a mechanic’s shop, a petrol station and a hairdresser. The children are free to play there, under the watchful eye of the re-
sort’s own children’s entertainers, let their imaginations run wild, invent scenes from everyday life and step into the shoes of great chefs, musicians, builders, and gardeners.
And
in the Barbie Activity Centre, Forte Village turns pink.
It is a universe dedicated to the most iconic doll ever, where children can
have unique experiences in the magnificent world that has charmed entire generations and continues to do so day after day.
The resort’s AcquaPark, on the other hand, is the perfect place for playing in the water, swimming, diving and sliding. Here, the Wonderland team engage young swimmers in age-appropriate activities conducted in the pool, an excellent way to improve their motor skills and cognitive development dynamically and safely.
Children’s Wonderland also hosts workshops for developing kids’ sensory and creative capabilities.
The Forte Village vegetable garden introduces children to Sardinia’s typical
crops. Then there’s the theatre workshop, where kids can explore their personality, gain confidence and have fun through acting. The Arts&Crafts creative workshop is a space where all children can unleash their creativity and learn to communicate through their manual skills. From drawing to ceramics, painting, origami, and cooking lessons: the list of activities is long, and upgraded every year in line with the current trends.
At the resort, we also look after children under the age of three. The Nursery has everything you and your little ones need, with an area equipped with cribs and cots and the support of qualified childcare professionals.
Magic moments
The art of circus casts a spell on Forte
Village
At Forte Village, near Hotel Castello, there is a magical place nestled in nature, conjured up for incurable dreamers. A huge circus tent full of lights, colours and melodies. It is impossible to miss and incredible things happen inside: breathtaking acrobatics, dancing and many thrilling acts.
Over 250 years old, the circus has never lost its charm. Today its timeless acts continue to thrill children and adults. While its origins date back to Ancient Roman times – then it was an elongated building in which chariot races and sometimes gladiator battles were held
- the concept of the modern circus came into being in the 8th century as an equestrian performance, to which jugglers, acrobats and equilibrists were added. Philip Astley, the forefather of the modern circus, welcomed history’s first clown in a performance dated 1870: comedian, acrobat and musician, an artist with a thousand personalities who became the symbol of the circus tradition.
The circus has come to Sardinia, bringing its magic to Forte Village.
Every week, Pistillo & Friends - a team of professional jugglers, equilibrists, clowns and knife throwers- entertain the visitors at Forte Village. It is led by Andrea Viganò, aka Pistillo: actor, mime, comedian, artiste and performer, he has frequently appeared on various TV programmes, such as Colorado, Striscia la Notizia and Paperissima. The team offers a varied, fresh and energetic show that
leaves spectators on the edge of their seats ranging from freak shows to the typical acts of modern circus.
All the tricks of the trade are revealed at the new Circus Academy, Forte Village’s circus school supervised by Pistillo & Friends, which offers private or group lessons for children aged 4-10.
Participants in the Circus Academy embark on a unique experience combining physical activity with entertainment designed to instil passion in the artists of tomorrow. The course offers them the opportunity to learn the noble disciplines of circus art: from acrobatics and tightrope walking, to juggling and clowning Children can try their hand at acrobatic exercises, study pantomime techniques, walk on stilts and learn to throw objects in the air and keep them balanced on the body. And what happens if you drop the ball? Absolutely nothing! All the best artists keep going and the performance continues because there is one rule that is always valid:
The show must go on.

A Ferrari may be a car, but it is also a sparkling wine.
A Cheers to sparklingwine!
An interview with Matteo Lunelli, Chairman and Managing Director of Ferrari Trento
Ferrari may be a car, but it is also a sparkling wine. Take Enzo Ferrari’s word for it. This was how the founder celebrated the two outstanding Made in Italy products that share the same name. The Lunelli Group remains synonymous with quality, representing Ferrari Trento, and other excellent Italian beverages, including Surgiva mineral water, Segnana Grappa, Tassoni beverages, the wines of Tenute Lunelli, and Bisol 1542 prosecco. Iconic brands with a long and prestigious history behind them and a bright, prosperous future ahead. We asked Matteo Lunelli, Chairman and Managing Director of Ferrari Trento to fill us in.
Your company was founded long ago and encompasses not only your personal professional successes but also those of your family. Giulio Ferrari, who started up his sparkling wine production in 1902 in Trentino, was succeeded by his family, beginning with Bruno Lunelli. That was 1952 and from then onward, it was one record after another: Ferrari Trento is the leading producer of high-end sparkling wine and the top exporter of Classic Method in the world. How important is a strong family? How has this passion been handed down unchanged through the various generations over the years?
My family has always been the custodian of the values of our founder, Giulio
Ferrari: from the bond with the territory and the constant pursuit of excellence to attention to detail. Values and passion passed down from generation to generation and shared by the entire company team.
In 2022 you celebrated your 120th anniversary. Can you tell us about some of the important milestones achieved by your family and Ferrari Trento? The events that from past to present have in some way designed a part of your history?
After founding the company in 1902, Giulio Ferrari passed the torch to our grandfather in 1952, who went deeply into debt to purchase the winery. A brilliant insight. Then in 1972, my uncle, Mauro Lunelli launched the Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore, the top award-winning Italian sparkling wine in the world having aged it for seven years behind closed doors. Today it is aged for ten. In 1982, at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, the Italian national football team celebrated the World Cup with a Jéroboam Ferrari: from that moment on, the brand became known “the toast of the stars”. In 2022, a few years after the company passed to the third generation it celebrated its 120th anniversary with the achievement of an important objective, carbon neutrality. This means that our company in no way contributes to global warming, something we are extremely proud of.
1 BRILLIANT INSIGHT YEARS OF HISTORY MILLION BOTTLES
7
In 2022, the company reached carbon neutrality.
120 years of history. Here are the figures.
Almost seven million bottles in 2021, 130 million in consolidated group turnover, the top producer of classic method sparkling wine in Italy and winner of the most awards, four times world champion in the most important international competition for “bubbles”, the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships by Tom Stevenson, the only non-French producers to have won. Need I go on?
Did you always believe, even as a boy, that you would carry on your family’s history? And the experiences abroad, the years you spent working in the Goldman Sachs investment bank, how much and how did they influence your work in the family group?
I believe it is important for all shareholders to gain experience outside the family group before they join it. You should learn a job in a context where you are not seen as a shareholder. This is a general rule we have also set for our children. To be honest, I always dreamed of having an experience abroad: I did it and it helped me develop in terms of maturity. I can thank my father for this. He al-
ways told me that the family business was an opportunity and not a duty
You have always been a great supporter of Made in Italy, and not just for your own companies. As Chairman of Altagamma (the foundation that brings together the most prestigious brands, the companies in the high-end cultural and creative industry), the networking project is being extended to the United States, after other countries such as China. Since the pandemic, have you seen the emergence of new needs for supporting and distributing Italy’s outstanding products? For example, how much do new production and creative alliances matter? How are excellent Italian products in general, and Ferrari sparkling wines, faring in this period?
The 2020 pandemic caused the highend sector to fall behind, however the 2021 recovery was faster than we expected. This may also have been partly due to the explosive desire to enjoy embracing and spending time with others once more. 2021 was a record year. We closed it with even better results than 2019, which, up until that point, had been our best year ever.
The secret ? We continued to invest also in 2020, despite the crisis and it was exactly in that year that we created our flagship product: we became the official “toast” of Formula One , taking the winner’s spot on the sporting’ world’s most iconic podium. Our sparkling wines are now served in every social occasion in the finest hospitality areas. We are very proud of this partnership, and it has given us a great boost abroad, first of all on the American market but elsewhere as well.
Does the alliance with Forte Village come under this type of development policy? How will your presence in the resort be structured?
Forte Village is the pinnacle of premium Italian tourism, featuring top-tier international patronage and refined luxury hospitality that prioritises exceptional food and wine offerings from outstanding chefs. That is another reason why we are proud to have our sparkling wines in the resort, as they are perfect for an aperitif but also to accompany Michelin star menus. Then, Forte Village is a prime example of Italy's upward repositioning in tourism. It is a fantastic destination that seamlessly combines sports, nature, the stunning Sardinian
landscape, culinary delights, and exceptional hospitality in a truly unique blend. So, in total harmony
You have a strong focus on environmental sustainability, and increasingly healthy agriculture and organic farming: what are your group’s future goals in this sector?
Wine is all about the land and it supports the land. Our proprietary vineyards are all certified organic and we have a sustainability protocol which establishes precise and tangible rules in our wine-growing processes, also for external producers, with the aim of obtaining high-quality, healthy grapes. This is the Ferrari Trento commitment: a high tech plan for saving water in the management of our irrigation systems, a solar power plant for generating renewable energy, organic and biodiversity certification for our proprietary vineyards. We are better-equipped to handle climate change than other regions because by acquiring vineyards at higher altitudes, their average temperature tends to be lower. In short, as our founder used to say: caring for and focusing on our raw material means investing in our future . Something we have always done, and we will continue to do so.
Barbie the everpink success
Interview with Andrea Ziella, Managing Director of Mattel Italy
March 1959, Wisconsin, USA. The wonderful story of Barbie, the Mattel doll that revolutionised the world of toys , begins. A never-ending fairytale, sparked by the extraordinary intuition of Ruth Handler, who recognised the importance of a toy that allowed children to role-play as adults, both in the present and the future.
Many years have passed, and the world has changed, but Barbie is a timeless icon , continuing to captivate generations, while adapting to modern times. The life-size Barbie House at Forte Village is proof of this, a chance for children and adults to live an unforgettable dream.
But what is the secret of the world’s best-loved doll? We asked Andrea Ziel la , Managing Director of Mattel Italy
Dr Ziella, you were appointed Managing Director 10 years after joining Mattel It aly: how has the company you work for changed?
Over the years we have undergone many transformations all closely relat ed to the evolution of our consumers and to Mattel’s market positioning. Once a toys-only company; Mattel is increasingly be -
coming an entertainment company. If I were to single out two of the main changes, I would say the communication channels (we went from a TV-centric approach to multiscreening, with a strong focus on the digital world) and our distribution channels : moving from physical stores to the growing significance of e-commerce.
What do families want today? What expectations do adults and children have about play and entertainment?
Today, families are very attentive to 3 aspects: product quality , educational aspects of the toy and the values the brand conveys. At Mattel
Barbie too has undergone an important evolution in time but continues to be popular: why is that?
There are three main reasons:
• Purpose : evolving a brand makes it relevant but the true key to success is having a purpose that makes it immortal;
• Diversity : introducing this concept into the brand is not easy but Barbie has been able to do it by engaging different generations and including different geographic areas, giving everyone the chance to feel represented by the line;
• Knowing how to take risks : you cannot be hugely successful without taking risks and Barbie has known how to do this in complicated times and when faced with difficult issues. So, she is reaping the benefits of this today.
“Every little girl needed a doll through which to project herself into her dream of her future. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices,” declared Ruth Handler in an interview with the New York Times in the 1970s. Is this statement still valid today?
Absolutely, and it is key to the success of the brand which, in recent years, has been
acknowledged as one of the most inclusive doll lines on the market with over 175 variations sporting a variety of eye colours, hair colours and textures, body types, disabilities and styles, so she can tell the greatest number of stories possible.
Barbie has introduced dolls with vitiligo, in wheelchairs or with prosthetic limbs, with hearing aids and with no hair.
The Barbie House was inaugurated at Forte Village in 2013, an attraction that still amazes its many visitors. How did this collaboration come about?
It all started with the desire of both companies to provide our consumers with a unique high-quality experience . That is why we joined forces with Forte Village to create the first true Barbie House . Now, for us it is not only a source of pride locally but also on an international level.
Why is it important for Mattel to be part of the Forte Village world and vice versa?
Because both companies whose growth strategy focuses on the consumer’s choices, and on ensuring the highest levels of services and products
How do you imagine the Barbie universe 50 years from now?
Always evolving and able to represent all the social and cultural aspects of our world.
Think pink
At Forte Village, Barbie mania has been all the rage since 2014, the year in which the collaboration between the resort and Mattel kicked off, long before the world went crazy over Barbie. The movie. The resort offers several themed proposals, starting with the Barbie House located inside Children’s Wonderland, an irresistible attraction for children and adults alike.
You can make your children’s stay even more iconic with the Barbie VIP Experience, the pinkest customisation ever: their bedroom will be decorated entirely with Barbie products, including dolls and vanity cases. Participants in the Barbie Fashion Academy will learn to create fantastic jewellery and photo holders, priceless souvenirs of an unforgettable holiday. With the Barbie Spa experience, you can enjoy unique moments with your mother at Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa, an oasis of peace and wellness for all ages, and benefit from a treatment that includes a manicure, pedicure and face mask.
Hervé Tullet's Art Academymakes Forte Village dream
An interview with the genius behind the rediscovery of childhood
Sketches, drawings and doodles. As children, we have everything we need to become artists. The problem is that once we grow up, we forget it. Fortunately, Prince Charming exists: his name is Hervé Tullet and he is an artist, illustrator and writer.
Tullet is the brilliant mind behind the new Forte Village Art Academy, a playing and learning space where the protagonists are all children. The artist uses interactive experiences to stimulate the imagination and creative expression of the young (and the young at heart, too) in a playful, fun way.
Born in Avranches, in France in 1958, Hervé Tullet began his career in the world of advertising, after studying visual communication and illustration. In the 1990s, his life changed when he approached the world of children’s literature.
In 2010 he published his most famous work Press Here, for which he received the Hans Christian Andersen Award. It is not simply a book but a true experience in which young readers are encouraged to touch, blow on, fold and interact with the pages to create a unique and personal narrative.
With the Tullet method, art and education come together in exploration, experimentation and creative autonomy. He believes that each individual, regard-
less of their age, has the potential to be an artist and that art is the best way to discover the world surrounding us. Because we are never too old to experience beauty.
A simple and accessible language for young and old alike, composed of dots, lines, splotches and scribbles.
What memories do you have of your childhood?
As a boy, I believe I was often very bored. But this boredom led to lots of ideas and a strong desire to do things, mostly thanks to reading.
At the beginning of your career, when and why did you decide to focus your studies and work entirely on children’s literature?
After my studies in graphic arts, I became an art director in the field of advertising and then an illustrator. At that moment, when my first child was born, I discovered literature for young people
Then when I saw what was on offer for them to read, I understood that it was virgin territory, a place of experimentation and possibility, because at that time, the industry was not as developed as it is now.
Art and education: where does one end and the other begin? Is there really a boundary between the two?
I wouldn’t formulate the question this way. I often seek and create things (books, workshops, games, films) that are openings, possibilities, and work spaces that different people (readers, teachers, librarians) can adapt to their daily activities and continue autonomously. My creations are never completely finished. They have a life of their own beyond the one I offer them, often connected to the world of education which I respect enormously.
What makes your work method, known as the Tullet Method, truly unique?
Probably the possibility it offers to reappropriate and repurpose, enhanced by a simple and accessible language for young and old alike, composed of dots, lines, splotches and scribbles. Again and again
This is the first time you’ve taken the Art Academy to Forte Village. What do you think about this recent collaboration?
From play to the joy of discovery: we developed a great exhibition together, where each participant brought their own abilities to the table while respecting everyone else’s.
How is the Academy set up? Which interactive activities does it offer participants?
During the meetings we shared experiences with professionals: Sarah, Aska, Museo in Erba and many others who played using my activities. We called these people ambassadors. For the Academy, we worked with a museum that I really admire which worked with us on creating the ideal exhibitions in Switzerland and in Italy, each one more wonderful that the other. Taking inspiration from my work and in connection with me, the Forte Village Resort staff helped build this magnificent exhibition.
What would you like the kids of the Academy to take home with them?
Intuitions and new ideas , a great time and great memories, such as a simple
piece of torn paper, for example, in addition to a new and different way of looking at art
In a world that has been completely transformed by the digital revolution, why is it important for children to let themselves be carried away by their ability to improvise and stimulate proactive learning? What are the benefits?
I’m not the person best qualified to answer this question: the approach I usually try to convey to them is only my proposal for a different kind of learning and most importantly, an invitation for everyone to play together
Becoming an artist
At the Forte Village Art Academy, children can let their creative imagination run wild and experience the art of painting and drawing, under the guidance of the great Hervé Tullet: an incredible exploration focused on fun and games among lines, splotches, canvases and brushes. The works created by the course participants are handed over to the artist’s staff who interprets then and transform them into an Expo Idéale, an endless exhibition in continuous evolution. This is Tullet’s ambitious project, produced in collaboration with the Museo in Erba in Lugano, conceived as a space for artistic exploration where children and adults can let their imagination run free. With the arrival of Tullet, Forte Village comes alive, offering countless ateliers such as Prato Fiorito, Dado Magico, Sentieri e Finestre, Pittura in Musica, all of which are used to create the Expo Idéale. The exhibition also visits Palazzo Doglio

Italy has found its home
Corporate campaign 2024
Made of Italy, a tribute by Forte Village, Palazzo Fiuggi and Palazzo Doglio
The heart of Italian magnificence, a treasure trove of the emotions that characterise our country. What makes Italy such a well-loved and world-renowned destination are the details that reflect elegance, charm and beauty
Our country has always been synonymous with excellence: here, you can immerse yourself in the culture that permeates every corner of the peninsula and end up basking in areas of pristine beauty, and succumbing to the magic of wonderful locations.
Forte Village, Palazzo Fiuggi and Palazzo Doglio have decided to pay tribute to our land with Made of Italy, the things that makes our country great every day. This is the title of the Corporate Campaign 2024, developed and produced by Pernice Group, an integrated communication, strategic marketing and creative agency which for several years has been in charge of the productions for the three destinations.
“The corporate communication campaigns of Forte Village, Palazzo Fiuggi and Palazzo Doglio are expressions of the exceptionally refined messages that showcase Italian culture through excellence in tourism,” commented Andrea Pernice, founder and managing director of Pernice Group. “The campaigns we have developed convey the class, tradition, innovation, exploration and the avant-garde character perceivable in the outstanding lifestyle at Forte Village, of care and wellness at Palazzo Fiuggi, of hospitality at Palazzo Doglio. Our intention is to describe the Italy we are privileged to experience daily and which, for most guests and travellers, is an occasional and exceptional experience, far removed from the traditions of their places of origin. This is why we have chosen to tell its story with an approach based on photography and video productions, expressed with the following elements in order to gratify the senses: music for hearing, beauty
for sight, taste to evoke Italian flavours, and touch with the invitation to come and enjoy the experience”.
A constantly evolving project, which year after year showcases the Italy that stands out in the world: its gastronomic delights, rich in fragrances and authentic flavours, with culinary traditions that offer a real sensory experience, and its landscapes, embellished by mountains and coastlines, which make our country a paradise for beauty lovers seeking to immerse themselves in the pleasure of Italy’s stunning nature.
This has been achieved using cinematic icons in the narrative approach of “Live in a Movie”, the Corporate Campaign 2022, and the most melodic songs that accompanied the passage of time in “Tell Me Quando”, the 2023 campaign.
Now is the time for the symbols of the truest Italy with Made of Italy
“Creating annual thematic corporate campaigns allows us to develop our creativity on a cross-media scale, making it a resource for all available communication channels,” Pernice continues. “We present it with the most traditional printed paper medium, through advertising and publications, and then with internet, until it reaches the big world of social media and podcast productions. The international public has become accustomed to an increasing flow of information and narrative, but it is more impressed by the quality and credibility of messages and images that convey a choice of qualitative positioning. This justifies the enormous creative and productive effort we dedicate each year to Forte Village, Palazzo Doglio and Palazzo Fiuggi. It is a tribute to Italy’s truest and most beautiful self that we are committed to respecting in our proposals as well, and to which we are dedicated with great professionalism and passion.”
The next campaign? “It is already in our heads, in the twinkle of our curious eyes, in the vibrations beneath our fingers ready to take every photograph, to capture each moving moment, to translate the creative work into one extraordinary original message that bids you welcome.”
Made of Italy is a signature of excellence, recognised and admired worldwide. A prestigious label, symbolic of quality and style.
