HAYS, KS
Sometimes when I walk across campus, I’ll look up and take in that beautiful Kansas sky. That sky is just so…limitless. And it reminds me of FHSU’s roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic and the spirit of optimism that pervades everything we do. Our students come from all over Kansas and from around the globe, but no matter where they start, there’s something that draws them to Fort Hays State. And I think that “something” is the feeling that they’ve found a home and a family. Fort Hays State is a place where each student matters. A place where they can be themselves, or redefine themselves. A place with a big open sky, a sky as big as their dreams and as limitless as their imaginations.

DEPARTMENT of ART and DESIGN FHSU.EDU/artanddesign
BRANDON PENNY ‘13 DEPARTMENT OF ART AND DESIGN Originally from Burlington, Colorado, I now live in New York City and was on the design team at Billboard magazine. Earning my B.F.A. in Graphic Design at FHSU was the smartest educational decision of my career. It was there that I gained my drive, skill set and made countless lifelong friends in my general education courses. I truly learned from the professors because they cared about the material and my success. I wasn’t just a number; I was a student that mattered with a name and a story. I am
now a well-rounded person that exceeds standards and qualifications and can withstand any obstacle that comes my way. Ultimately, what I love about my time at Fort Hays State is that after graduation, I walked away with more than just my name written on parchment as a degree, I walked away with an amazing portfolio of work and something to look forward to after my time spent in Kansas: A bright future. In July 2016 Brandon accepted position at People Magazine.
