BATON

LITTLE NINJAS (AGES 5-7)

BEGINNER BATON CLASS (AGES 5-13)

A co-ed program for children to learn and enjoy a traditional martial art with ties to the ancient ninja of Japan. Its goal is to help children build confidence, self esteem, concentration, and physical fitness all while having fun. $20.00 Uniform Fee added for all NEW students or any former students without a gi. Members: $40/ Program Participants: $80 Monday

YOUTH MARTIAL ARTS TAIJUTSU (AGES 8-12)

This class welcomes new twirlers ages 5-13. Our classes not only focuses on teaching our students how to twirl a baton, but encourages teamwork, poise, hand -eye coordination, and so much more! Students will learn unique tricks in class as well as a routine. Students will have an opportunity to show off their skills at the winter recital. Friends and family are invited to watch the showcase! Baton fee covered in program fees. How to prepare for Baton: -Hair up -fitted shirt/pants (no baggy clothing please) -water bottle

A co-ed program for adults in the traditional Japanese martial art of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Training consists of striking, grappling, weapons use, multiple attack and escape/reversal methods through safe repetitious practice. Members: $50/ Program Participants: $100 Monday

ARTS & HUMANITIES DANCE BALLET I (AGES 3-6)

TAP I (AGES 3-9)

Beginner level class. An introduction to dance through tap technique. Students will warm-up routine, across the floor movements, rhythm, musicality, and self-expression. Some examples of steps taught in this class are shuffles, ball-change, shim sham, step-heels, and toe backs. Leotard or leggings and t-shirts are acceptable attire. Black tap shoes are required. Hair should be secured in a ponytail, bun, or head band to keep it out of your dancer’s face.

Beginner level class taught by Miss Amelia and Miss Tiffany. An introduction to dance through classical ballet technique. Students will learn foot and arm positions, warm-up routine, across the floor movements, rhythm, musicality, and self-expression. Some examples of steps taught in this class are demi plié, tendu, bourrée, sauté passé, and pas marche. Leotard, tights, and ballet flats are preferred. Hair should be secured in a ponytail, bun, or head band to keep it out of your dancer’s face.

Beginner level class taught by Miss Amelia. An introduction to ballet with classical technique. This class is a continuation from Ballet I or for older students. Students will learn foot and arm positions, warm-up routine, across the floor movements, rhythm, musicality, and self-expression. Some examples of steps taught in this class are a review of steps covered in Ballet I, rond de jambe, échappé sauté, pas de bourrée, chaîné turns, and waltz turns. Leotard, tights, and ballet flats are required. Hair should be secured in a ponytail, bun, or head band to keep it out of your dancer’s face.

Beginner level class. An introduction to dance through jazz technique. Students will learn foot and arm positions, warm-up routine, across the floor movements, rhythm, musicality, and self-expression. Some examples of steps taught in this class are jazz squares, struts, chasse, step-ball change, and triple lindy. Leotard or leggings and t-shirts are acceptable attire. Black jazz shoes are required. Hair should be secured in a ponytail, bun, or head band to keep it out of your dancer’s face.

VOICE IMPROVEMENT CLASS (AGES 7 & UP)

HOMESCHOOL S.T.E.A.M. (AGES 5 & UP)

Taught by Dani. We will work towards one big song for showcase to perform solo and one group accapella piece. Learn daily vocal health, what a singer should eat, avoid, what exercise to avoid and do to be kind to our vocal development and how one should use the voice and signs and symptoms of over and underuse. We will learn warm-ups and cool-downs perfect for your voice and skill development. Draw a lot of inspiration from Applemans Science of Vocal Pedagogy to develop a singing plan perfect for you. As a group we will experience together the power of many voices, we will sing in 4 part harmony, you will be voice tested and assigned a part. Don't worry, it's all pretty harmless, anyone can do it.

Explore Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math with our great Instructors. Create masterpieces, explore scientific experiments, learn about how technology work, and more. Member: $50/ Program Participants: $100 Friday

THEATRE CLASS (AGES 7 & UP)

Taught by Dani. We will work towards one big monologue for showcase to perform solo and one group scene. The method that will be introduced is a mixture of viewpoints training which is a fairly new style focused on bodily understanding our character from the inside out and our environment in a reactionary way and Stanislavski which is a very old method focused on the mind of an actor and character development from a mental standpoint. GUITAR Taught by Kyle White. Toledo native Kyle is a third generation musician. Playing with various cover bands, acoustic duos/trios, and solo, she has been a staple of the Toledo music scene for the past 20 years.

ADULT CLASSES ADULT ACRYLIC 2-DAY ART WORKSHOP (AGES 18 & UP)

2 days to complete your beautiful work of art. This workshop will be themed “Autumn Mountain Barn”. All supplies are provided for you to complete on a 11” x 14” canvas. BUILDING MORE THAN JUST MUSCLES YOUTH SPORTS

VOLLEYBALL CLINIC

Join in a clinic that will focus on the proper form of setting and bumping. This clinic will help prepare young players for future competitive leagues. Knee pads are recommended but not mandatory. Grades 3rd Grade – 12th Grade Members: $25/ Program Participants: $55

SPORT COACHING

Work 1-on-1 or in a small group with expert certified coaches. Training for boys or girls ages 6-18 years old. Lessons will focus on developing fundamentals, skill building, and knowledge of the game. Lessons can be customized to help develop specific areas of the game. Lessons are scheduled on an appointment basis.

JR CAVS BASKETBALL LEAGUE SESSION 6 SPORTS LEAGUES: January 6 - February 22 REGISTRATION STARTS: November 18 ($15 late fee after December 17) The YMCA of Greater Toledo’s NEW Jr. Cavs Youth Basketball Program offers kids ages 3-11 the opportunity to learn what

it takes to win both on and off the court. Your child will learn the fundamentals of basketball while making friends and having fun. All players and skill levels are welcome! FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Eastern Community YMCA has financial assistance available for the Jr. Cavs Program for those who qualify. Please pick up a financial assistance application at the member service desk. All applications must be completed fully with proper accompanying documentation and turned in by December 10th in order to be considered (the earlier the better!)

This program is will be led by paid YMCA coaches. We are in need of assistant volunteer coaches! Please sign up at registration if you would like to volunteer assist with our Jr. Cavs programs!

TUMBLE & SWING PARENT/CHILD CLASSES (AGES 1-3) Members: $31/ Program Participants: $74

PUNKINS (AGES 1-2)

Movement Education for “furniture walkers” through 23 months, with parent. Introductory gymnastics skills with emphasis on large motor skill development, balance, and coordination. For safety reasons, younger siblings are required to be in a carrier or stroller and older siblings must be able to entertain themselves quietly against the wall of the gymnasium. Monday Sunday

Coed, age specific to 5 year olds, without parent. Gymnastics equipment-based classes. Developmentally appropriate program that promotes strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, focus and gross motor skills. Progressive gymnastics skills (beginnerintermediate) are introduced and developed as the gymnast's skill level improves. Equipment includes all "big kid" Olympic events sized for "little kids"! Structure is introduced as well as plenty of time for free exploration-how Scooters learn best! MITEY 3 (AGE 3 WITH PARENT)

This is a parent aided, structured gymnastics class. Often, 3 year olds need special attention due to their size, fear, or adjusting to being on their own. This class is intended to bridge our Scooter class and our Mitey 4 class. Mitey 3’s is designed much like our Mitey 4’s class with the parents aiding their child through specific gymnastic circuits and stations. This is a structured class with full parental participation. This class is for 3 year olds who are ready for more structure and instruction. Young 4 year olds who are not quite ready for Mitey 4’s are also welcome.

This boy’s only class uses emphasis on spatial awareness over soft surfaces to focus on fundamental parkour movements including: safe ways to fall, proper weight placement, strides, bounds, and precision landings, essential vaults and their simpler forms, balance building, grip strength, cardio and endurance, plyometric, calisthenics, and flexibility. Coed, Age specific to 4 year olds, without parent. Gymnastics equipment-based classes. Developmentally appropriate program promotes strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, focus and gross motor skills. Progressive gymnastics skills (beginner- intermediate) are introduced and developed as the gymnast’s skill level improves. Equipment includes all “big kid” Olympic events sized for “little kids”! WINTER EVENTS Wellness Challenge Challenge Kickoff

The Y wellness challenge incorporates three of the most important aspects of weight loss: nutrition, physical activity and behavior modification. These aspects are integrated while encouraging participants to adopt healthy habits and lose unhealthy habits as they participate in the program.

EQUIPMENT ORIENTATION: A quick orientation of the Fitness Center equipment and it’s policies with a Fitness coach. Scheduled at the Member Service desk. FITNESS 101: A beginner’s guide to a workout. A fitness coach will set the proper weights and go through a basic workout from beginning to end. Scheduled at the Member Service desk. PERSONAL TRAINING CONSULTATION: This consultation determines the level of health-related fitness components – BMI, body composition, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. AGES 10-12: ONE 30 minute Youth Orientation Class with Parent. Youth ages 10-12 must take the mandatory Youth Orientation Class with a parent. After that, they may use the cardio equipment with parent or guardian.

AGES 13-15: THREE 30 minute sessions. Teens ages 13 -15 MUST take the mandatory Teen Fitness Center Orientation Class. Once they have taken and passed the class, then they can use the Fitness Center.

AGES 16-17: ONE 1 hour session. Teens age 16-17 must take a mandatory orientation from one of our fitness staff to be allowed in the Fitness Center. 14
