Holiday Spending Tips

Simplifying your finances means planning ahead for the holidays! *Create a holiday budget and set limits. List everyone to whom you would like to give gifts and set a spending limit for each one. Then add in estimates of the amount you’ll spend on travel; holiday decorations; and food, outings and other forms of entertainment during the holiday season. If the total is too high, look for areas to trim expenses. *Beware of impluse purchases. *Practice Financial Safety. Maintain control of your cards and information. Review bank statements upon receipt and report any missing cards or unrecognized transactions. *Find alternatives to costly gifts. Bake some treats; knit a scarf; offer the gift of your time by making coupons for babysitting, household chores, or a home-cooked meal. An added benefit of homemade gifts is that often they’re more meaningful than something you buy from a store. *Use your Exchange and MWR Programs. In addition to the usual tax savings and price-matching benefit, you’ll find special holiday discounts. *Keep it simple. Focus on enjoying the simple pleasures of the holiday season, like spending time with friends and family or taking a walk to see the holiday decorations in your neighborhood.

Enjoy these special tips from ACS/MWR Financial Readiness Program!

Check out the GREAT food and fun!
