Get up close to some rare maps dating back to the 1658 commonwealth map through the world wars up to the present day. Tuesday 8 January: Enfield’s Railway History Part One: (East) Enfield Town and Southbury Lines by Dave Cockle from the Enfield Society. This illustrated talk will show the many changes over the years and the social impact the coming of the railway had on the communities it served. Tuesday 12 February: The Roman Lead Coffin from Burleigh Road by Neil Pinchbeck from the Enfield Archaeology Society. In this talk hear about the Roman Lead Coffin discovered on Burleigh Road. Find out more about the coffin and the excavations involved and hear about Roman Enfield. Tuesday 12th March: Suffragists and Suffragettes in Enfield, Edmonton and Southgate by Joe Studman. In April 2018 a statue of Millicent Fawcett was unveiled in Parliament Square. On the Plinth were listed 59 names of women & men who contributed to the fight to win the vote in 1918 & in 1928. At least 10 of those names campaigned in our borough. Tuesday 9th April: WWI Airship Raid over Enfield by David Marks. On the 3rd September 1916, Lieutenant William Leefe Robinson flying his BE2c aircraft tracked the SL11 airship over Enfield and fired on it, bringing it down in a field in Cuffley. This illustrated talk will focus on the Cuffley airship and Enfield’s ‘night to remember’. David is a member of the Airship Heritage Trust and a committee member of Cross & Cockade International (The First World War Aviation Historical Society). 22

This is an important part of Palmers Green’s heritage and Alex draws attention to this rich resource and questions what can be done to restore it to its former glory.

Tickets can be purchased by cash, cheque or card at Millfield Theatre, Dugdale Centre and Forty Hall.
ACCESS The Dugdale Centre is wheelchair accessible. For hearing impaired, we have the Sennheiser infra-red system, these receivers tune into your hearing aid and can be collected from Box Office. We welcome guide and hearing dogs.
