COMMUNITY / GARDEN National Open Garden Scheme Despite it being early September, it feels more like late October. Summer certainly seem to have disappeared at a pace. It seems to be a time of presentations this month. Firstly we have an award for one of our Hampshire Garden Owners, who has opened her garden for 10 years This is a great achievement and a lot of weeding and planting and edging. I am sure many of you will recognise Jill Ede - owner of Old Thatch in Winchfield, North Hampshire receiving her 10 year certificate and trowel from our County Organiser - Mark Porter.

This is a very well deserved award Jill, for a very popular garden. Maybe one to note for 2022, when you might even arrive by the John Pinkerton narrow boat from the wharf near the Barley Mow Pub.

Secondly we have the presentation of a beautiful brass plaque to commemorate the NGS Community Garden Award funding for the raised beds for this amazing project near Fordingbridge in the New Forest. This raised beds project is on an acre of land, which is slowly being cleared and turned into a productive kitchen garden and sensory raised beds area. This one acre area is part of a five acre smallholding, which not only has a productive organic growing area and animals, but places where people can find peace and solitude. The aim is to create this therapeutic horticultural project for people with varying needs. Here we have Mark Porter (again !) presenting the plaque to Bethany Turner, who has led Project Manna with drive, enthusiasm and dedication. Your can find out more about Project Manna at https://projectmanna.co.uk/ It makes very interesting reading. Best Wishes to All - Pat Beagley (Publicity) National Garden Scheme - Hampshire
